I was in town for business and wanted a nice place for dinner with my team. Half Shell came highly recommended and understandably so...it was fantastic!! From the atmosphere to the service and food, everything was fantastic! I don't typically like oysters, but I tried the charbroiled oysters from the sampler platter and they were delicious! (I've possibly been converted!) I ordered the shrimp & grits for my entree and it was excellent. Right amount of smoke and the grits were creamy perfection! I had the grilled asparagus as my side and that was delicious, too. The table ordered a few desserts to share. Ordered jumbo fried shrimp and some bread and butter. The shrimp were medium, not jumbo and over cooked. It came with hush puppies that were the size of the shrimp. The bread that was served was dry white bread with ice cold butter. Not impressed. read more

Awful food and terrible service. Last food I got from there to go had paper wadded up in the potatoes and something I never identified in the salad. The pastors were fried rock hard. Awful food that I threw out. Plenty of staff on hand that seemed to ignore me. Won't be going back there ever unless they get responsible managers. Oh yeah and the bar was sticky and dirty where I sat to wait on my food. Worst experience ever. Hot mess of a place. Why can't people work and treat customers like they would want to be treated? Not anything else to say , but this good restaurant took a bad wrong turn. Fried Oysters were burnt, potatoes were grey and had wadded up paper in them, salad had unidentifiable object in it. I entered and was greeted promptly. The bar was full, so I waited for a table. The waitress was not good. The table was dirty. Apparently, debris got back on it after the paper was changed. Pictures The plates and silverware had a film on them, something is definitely wrong with the washing equipment. Pictures.The menu had stuff all over it. They haven't been cleaned in a while. Pictures . Sweet tea was soured rank, so I swapped it for a soda. I order raw oysters and they were promptly delivered and good. I order a side salad and it was flat, not rotten but like it was left out and got warm and flat then refrigerated again. I ordered shrimp and grits. Gross. Seven over cooked shrimp, grits ok, cooked bacon topping good, but this boiled bacon and sauce was gross. Who eats fatty boiled bacon. The whole dish was stinky. I went to the restroom and it was even a wreck, broken loud fans and sticky stuff everywhere, all over the doors and pictures. I left there feeling gross. It's not worth trying g again. The service was great, management was great, the wine was great but the food was terrible especially for the price! Hand cut filets that can't be cooked to order as the cut was so uneven. The 8 oz was sent back twice! The 6 oz was so thin and dry. Both we ordered medium temp. The oysters - we were up sold their "Southern Pearl" oysters and we got them hoping they would be large and pretty consistent in size. About half were so small they were smaller than a quarter. If my restaurant was called Half Shell Ouster House and I had my own oyster farm you would be sure you would get high quality oysters! The waitress was real sweet and deserves 5 stars and the management was kind and apologized but we should have gotten a new steak. read more

The wait was 45 minutes. Seems a bit excessive to eat anywhere, but after being seated we understood why. Our waitress Denise was very nice and professional, but extremely slow. The atmosphere was nice, the oysters were great, as well as the shrimp poboy and seafood pasta. The seafood platter was okay, but would have been better grilled because the food was over fried very dark and almost burnt. Being from the gulf coast, the cooks need to learn how to fry seafood. Came down to Mississippi after Hurricane Ian, and got lunch at Oyster House. From the receptionist to our server (Amber) to the manager, the experience was great. Seated quickly and service was prompt and attentive. Cocktails were great and served promptly. The food came quickly and was very average which was a surprise because had previously been impressed with our food. My wife's filet was medium instead of medium rare albeit with good flavor. My Savannah Mahi was overly breaded so seemed heavy . The sauce was excellent however and the shrimp just right. Thankfully, the cinnamon roll bread pudding with rum sauce was decadent and was as good finish. Overall not the best we've had here but Valentine's Day can stress a kitchen read more

This was a waste of a date night. My wife and I had such high hopes but were both left very disappointed. Our server was great and that was about it. My wife ordered a filet which was purple. I ordered a shrimp po boy which had very stale and bland bread. My wife's entree came with two sides one of which was sweet potatos. They were covered in so much granulated brown sugar that they were inedible. The service was the only redeeming quality. A new chef is required to save this kitchen nightmare. read more

Went for a business dinner. Sat a group of 7 within 15 minutes! Place was very busy that night with most tables full. Hosts were very entertaining while we waited and engaged in conversation a few times casually. The Server was newer in position, or maybe just new to serving. She was trying, just did it quite have the hang of it yet. Sweet countenance and engaging personality! The quality of the food was good, a little better than a higher end chain restaurant. Our party of three vacationers came here on recommendation of one of the nice folks working at the fabulous museums in Jackson. Our dinner of gumbo, shrimp, and chargrilled oysters was fabulous as was our server. The Rockefeller and the Orleans sauces were our favorite with exceptionally fresh seafood. We were there for an early (5ish) dinner and there was already a 20 minute wait on Friday. Getting drinks at the bar was a bit of an annoyance since the bartender was much more interested in the handsome server picking up drinks than her thirsty patrons. While management missed this, they came by to apologize for our food taking a bit longer than their standard. So it seems their priorities are in order. I will look for this restaurant brand any time traveling in the South. read more

We waited 45 minutes to get to a table tonight and then waited 30 minutes for our food . It was very disappointing. The food was look warm . Our waitress April was doing the best she could . She had some very unhappy customers next to us because they never received their drinks from the bar until after they finished eating . The manager offered no sympathy and did not offer them a dessert for free or take something off their bill. We won't be back any time soon . read more

This is my first time here and I love it. The food and drinks came super fast. I got the uptowner sandwich and the meats was so tender and juicy I could just eat it by itself. Came here the other night for the first time. The restaurant has a cool New Orleans like feel to it. We sat in the back which was a little quieter than the main part of the restaurant. Which was nice because I felt like we could converse better back there. Didn't know what was good so we tried a little bit of everything. Started off with the Smoked Yellow Fin and Tuna Dip. I thought it was excellent. It had a slight smoky flavor that wasn't too overwhelming. Would definitely recommend it as an appetizer. One of our meals was the Voodoo Shrimp Poboy with seasoned fries. The poboy itself is pretty massive, so much so that I probably should have eaten some of its contents before trying to close it and eat it in sandwich form because I made a mess. However, the Voodoo sauce was really good...couldn't really pinpoint the taste...maybe kinda like a Thai chili sauce. The season fries were thick cut and delicious. I would get that meal again for sure. Our other meal was fried shrimp. The shrimp were decent sized and had good breading. We got fried okra with them which was mediocre, no pun intended and a Caesar salad which was kind of dry and flavorless. The menu here is massive and most everything looks appealing. Would definitely like to come back and try other things. read more
