Had high hopes for his place, but was severly let down. After our experience, most people that I have talked to about Half Moon feel the same. The Lobster Mac n Cheese was just pasta in a tastless watery Alfredo sauce. I asked for some parmesan cheese in an attempt to salvage it. When it arrived, I noticed the parmesan cheese was very low grade. Not a good sign at all. Despite my efforts, we left almost all of this dish. Burger arrived, fries were mushy and cold. Sent them back. Burger was not that great, despite being told by the waitress that "its what we're known for". The crab cakes are falsley advertised as "jumbo lump". Went to half Moon point tonight for my parents 51st anniversary made reservations for 6 o'clock but I went earlier at three to drop off balloons and ice cream cake when we arrived at 6 o'clock no balloons and had to remind them about the ice cream cake they told me that the manager came over and through the balloons out So how many to wait past 6 o'clock for our reservation manager finally came over to me and told me that he threw them out and he really couldn't do anything he would do something but he didn't know what to say he paid a $10 bar bill big deal with the balloons cost me over $15 I must say that our server was great the food was OK we went for prime rib but the management there is horrible he really needs to learn how to treat customers right he's a young kid that could really give two craps about anybody in his place read more

Excellent food, service and ambience. They are taking all covid precautions but have managed to keep their identity as a restaurant. The menu was full of various delicious sounding dishes, and the ones we chose lived up to it! Two people in our party had the oysters and loved them. We also shared the fried/seared Brussel Sprouts (sounds weird but was delicious!) and two of the Mac and cheese sides as appetizers: the lobster and the short rib. Delicious. We liked the short rib so much that two of us got the short rib panini as an entree. Sooo good. The service was excellent; I don't like sitting at picnic tables but that's the way it goes at the moment. Got an easy opentable reservation a couple hrs ahead of time on a friday night. We thought this meant the place would be empty, but no way, it's nice to see a popular place. The parking lot(s) (front and back) were full, so we were lucky to get street parking. The restaurant itself is very local in style, decor, and feel. We arrived 15 min ahead of our 7:30pm reservation and were seated promptly. The bar we walked past was full and hopping. The dining area we were seated in was small, with 7 tables. Server was very nice. There were probably 10 or so beers on tap, and had the Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA, then later the Elysian Space Dust IPA, both delicious. For starters, my wife had the shrimp bisque, which I tried and was very good. i didnt get big chunks of shrimp, but the soup itself was a nice and flavorful creamy tomato. The half dozen Barnegat oysters I had as an appetizer were a disappointment. Not much brine water, and didn't seem freshly shucked, and the oyster meat was just ok and still strongly attached to the shell. However my main entree, the shrimp and grits, were amazing and amongst the best I've had. I especially loved the fried okra in them as well. My wife had a decent panfried salmon. The accompanying mashed sweet potato could be a dessert itself! For the actual dessert, we had the cheesecake which was just average. I can see why this place gets mixed reviews. The place looks nice. Unfortunately the food, and service were disappointing. The salmon was the tail end. This cut of the fish should never be served in a restaurant. It was so small, and thin that it was tasteless. The pasta tasted like red wine was added just before serving. The appetizers were actually quite good. Should have stopped there. Of the six dinners, 2 arrived much later resulting in four being eaten cold. I received a text asking me to rate our dining experience. I responded honestly, but never received a reply. read more

Overpriced. Mediocre. Forgettable. A classic case of a restaurant resting on its laurels and the guarantee of tourists money - with little pride in the food served. If you come to Half Moon Point for cocktails and one or two apps fine. If you come here for dinner, prepare to feel fleeced and regretful. Average price for a main course is $30+ - I guess because there are few options in the area and a high traffic of tourists there is less accountability to serve the quality of food you would expect for the prices they charge. We've been here three times now hoping for a different outcome but nothing changes. As locals to the area, we know it doesn't have to be this way. Come for cocktails but eat elsewhere. read more

I really wanted to like Half Moon Point as it has a lot going for it. This was my first visit since it was converted from the Forte and I was blown away by the transformation. Lovely modern style, upstairs and downstairs dining rooms each complete with their own bar and spacious dining rooms. Everything is new and slick, even the outdoor area looks amazing, complete with what looks like a heating system for the colder nights (but not 100% sure on that). So why only three stars? Let me focus on the positives. The service is great! The staff is awesome, friendly, attentive, helpful and always around when needed. Some spots have a staff that are almost annoying as they are round too much, Half Moon Point does not have this issue. The staff there understand how to properly take care of the guests. As for food and drinks, the wine list is varied and interested and they make some very tasty cocktails. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts and Pork Belly appetizers and were very happy. The sprouts were tasty and crispy without being coated in sauces like some other spots. I was very happy with the flavor. Same goes for the pork belly, which had a fantastic mix of flavors. Unfortunately things fell apart on our entrees. The Rigatoni Bolognese was less than impressive, the sauce was almost sweet. Our steak was somewhat overcooked and dry. Maybe we choose the wrong entrees? Also, some people complained about the noise level, but I did not find this to be an issue. Overall, I really liked so much about Half Moon Point that I will visit again and update this review at that time. At the moment I am a little disappointed, but hopefully once the kitchen gets a little more settled after just opening, we will see some really good stuff! read more

So while shopping my girlfriend in Spring Lake we were looking for a new place for lunch and being that is was restaurant week we decided on Half Moon Point. I called to see if we could get a table hostess Leslie was so nice letting me know not a problem and to come on over. Arrived to be greeted super friendly and got a nice table in the bar by the fireplace. We were than welcomed by our waitress "Rebecca"... OMG! she was one of the nicest, outgoing and accommodating waitress I have encounter in a long time .. she total went above and beyond for us !! Give the girl a raise !! She's a keeper for sure. Drinks great love the singing tree Chardonnay a new favorite of mine. We wanted to go out for a nice dinner. Our favorite restaurant (Shipwreck in Brielle) was booked solid. I was able to get a reservation at Half Moon so we tried it. Oh my gosh we're we in for a surprise. The restaurant was very nicely decorated. A person on our party is handicapped and they were wonderful making accommodations. My review will be a two parter 1. I first tried to go for a drink an an appetizer on a Wednesday night. It was SO NOISY upon entering. It was so crowed, which is great for them. But so much so the bar wouldn't even look my way to at least get me a drink and the upstairs bar was just as crowded so unfortunately, I left. After hearing mixed reviews I decided I wanted to give it a fair shot 2. Me and my best friend decided to go there for lunch. Hoping that the different time of day would help. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside. One of the bad things I heard was the service was not very good. On the contrary, the service throughout the whole meal was on point. Both times I got a grilled chicken sandwich and it was great as takeout, when eating in restaurant the sandwich tasted completely different and was poorly stacked. Food was good, but there are many issues to work out. We waited over 45 minutes for our meal to arrive. They even comped us a couple of small salads due to the long wait. Duck 3 Ways, Salade Nicoise and Crab Cakes were great. However, the scallops on the Bay Bake were undercooked and tasteless. It took 3 rounds and over 10 minutes to get all the entrees delivered. The chairs on the deck were so uncomfortable that my wife had to search out a normal chair to sit. The others could not lean back and suffered through it. Cushions or new chairs need to be in their plans? The waiter was apologetic, but had some trouble bringing water and finding an ice bucket. Overall, the experience was fair. We held my daughter's bridal shower here in January. I had been to events in the upstairs dining area, and I knew it would be perfect for her Winter Wonderland theme. From the start, Holly was responsive every time I called with questions, and made various suggestions to make the seating arrangements work with the room. A plus in case you have less-abled guests:there is an elevator so they don't have to take the stairs. There is a bar and a restroom upstairs also, so you don't have to go downstairs to the main restaurant. Our servers were excellent, Ryan P was our head server/maitre D's that afternoon hand he kept the food and bar service running like clockwork. We were able to get in early to decorate, but other than centerpieces on the tables and setting up a pretty dessert table, the room is so pretty, especially with the fireplace, that you don't need loads of "stuff". I would highly recommend Half Moon Point for any event, and for the main restaurant as well. Food and service is top-notch! read more

I was quite impressed when I first walked in this tavern. People eating and drinking at a full bar downstairs and upstairs as well. We ordered our drinks however the bartender should know that wine should be slightly chilled. We were seated upstairs and the vents blew cold air on us so we were able to change our seats. We ordered lobster bisque which was just okay as well as the entree of crab cakes. Side dish of Mac m cheese was inedible. I found it dry and gritty string beans were fresh and carrots had a bit of spice I didn't care for. My husband had the shrimp scampi style with mushroom risotto which was good. Maybe my dish was an off night but the place was busy all around and live music played in the downstairs corner. Many options from burgers to salads at steak and seafood. Service was good.
