my family and i just dined there tonight, to begin, the appetizers were delicious, my daughter had the brussel sprouts, i had the chorizo and shrimp, everything was perfect, with intense flavors. our entrees were just as good, i had the short rib, which was tender and delicious, my wife had the lobster thermador w/fries, AMAZING! It pains me to write this because my husband and I wanted to love this place and add it to our "go to" list because it's just down the street. However, the overwhelming inconsistency with food preparation will prevent us from coming back. We gave it repeated chances too, four times in 6 weeks - dining in two times and take out the other two times. You just really never know what you're going to get here, a dish can be excellent one time and awful the next. It's also abundantly clear that there is no quality control as some of the dishes sent out to us should have never been allowed out of the kitchen. Who's expediting, is anyone paying attention? I've had the brussel sprouts appetizer four times. Twice (dine in) they were fine. The other two times (take out) - once the sprouts were swimming in a puddle of oil and the bacon was in big chunks as well as horribly undercooked/raw/fatty. I had to drain the oil and lay the sprouts on paper towels just to have them be edible, then reheat them. Last night (take out), they were dry, too hard and the bacon was again in big chunks and most of it was undercooked fat. I've had the Ahi tuna poke bowl three times, this is my favorite item on the menu. Last night's order - they swapped out the sticky rice for regular white rice. The difference is extremely noticeable too, it made the dish taste grainy. They are not interchangeable items! Last night, my husband ordered the short rib mac and cheese as well as the short rib panini. The mac and cheese was watery and bland, devoid of any real flavor. Most of the short rib pieces were fatty. The panini..."cheddar, swiss & gruyere cheese, sautéed onions & mushrooms served on a brioche bun with a side of parmesan truffle fries and horseradish cream sauce". There was no brioche bun, it was two slices of bread (looked like thick Wonder bread, maybe the crust was brioche part?!). No evidence or taste of horseradish cream sauce. The fries were cold, soggy and completely inedible as they were served. He had to put them in the toaster over to heat and crisp them up. In a previous take out order, he had the blackened tuna bites - they were dry and overcooked. We've decided after last night's disappointing meal that we won't be giving Half Moon Point any more tries. I'm writing this review hoping that someone from the restaurant actually reads these reviews and takes note of what people complain about, and does something to try to remedy the situation. You could be so much better than you are but you gotta get your kitchen in order! read more

I am from the area and surprisingly have never heard of this place. I probably even drove past it on more than one occasion. From the moment I checked out the menu online prior to our arrival, to the moment we entered the very cool and chic Point Pleasant beach hidden gem, I was totally impressed. And from the moment I took the first bite of my blackened tuna bites (they were sooooo perfect and moist and tasty) with an avocado creme, followed by scarfing down the scrumptiously seared scallops in a brown sherry cream sauce over an herbed parmesan risotto, to the moment I shared a peanut butter chocolate ring ding (with my wife), a la mode, (I asked for the scoop of vanilla) , that first impression never lost its luster. This past weekend, Half Moon Point hosted a wonderful baby shower for us. Staff was friendly, courteous, and competent. The food was nothing short of amazing- with entrees including Lobster Fennel Salad, Chicken Valdostano, Pan Seared Salmon, Fusilli Bolognese, a Short Rib Panini, or Chicken BLT Chop. Either Soup or a house salad served as starters. Coffee and soft drinks were served throughout. The upstairs space was lovely- light and open. A bar was available for those desiring cocktails. Tried to eat at this restaurant today. Had a reservation. Seated out of turn I was made to wait 25 minutes when people with reservations after me were seated first. Was seated at a table that was clearly not cleaned to the new COVID standards. There was food all over the table. The manager proceeded to sit me at a table that I watched her only clean the table top. Didn't wipe down the seats. When I commented to the manager that I watched her not clean the entire table she was suddenly uncomfortable with me eating in her establishment. Trust me the feeling was mutual at this point. First time in my life I walked away from a restaurant. We also noted several employees with masks not covering their noses. We have gone for lunch and dinner and it has bene consistently good. We decided to try breakfast there last week. Solid breakfast dishes. One complaint that annoyed the &*#@ out of me. Charged us $3.75 for each 6 ounce cup of coffee....and no refills. Are you serious??? Stop nickel and diming your Customers.....it is seen as desperate and classless. We eat out 3-4 days a week.....$3.75 wont break the bank, it is the principle of it. A huge DD coffee is less than $3. read more

Soup & sandwich special - cheese steak panini was good, lobster bisque (not chicken soup as listed on menu) was better with the addition of a little salt. I've been to their sister restaurant Harpoon Willy's multiple times and loved it so I had high hopes for Halfmoon Point, but was seriously underwhelmed. The toast points they serve were all literally burnt, the salmon I ordered medium came out completely overdone and dry with a literal drop of the beurr Blanc sauce. The turkey soup had zero pieces of turkey in it, and no pie crumbles on top as mentioned on the menu. The only good part of the meal for my boyfriend and I were the veg, well cooked and flavorful. He got the short ribs, 3 very very small pieces that were unappetizing. The service was worse than the meal. The waitress would leave and not return for a long time, never checking on us while leaving us without drinks or silverware. I have been to this restaurant over the years and last night was the worst experience we've had. The night started off well as their Brussels sprouts were very tasty and served hot. Then dinner came, we ordered dry simple items, a burger with arugula and grits served on a plate with a side of fries and a short rib panini. first of all, the food was warm at best, then my short ribs were very tough, the French fries were of the frozen kind from a package, and soggy and finally, the presentation was terrible. with2 beers and two mixed drinks we spent 117.00 and I must say, totally not worth it. This trip to half moon was not as good as our first. We came back on a very busy Saturday night. The bar was extremely crowded and very loud. Our table was way to close to a wall and too cramped to our neighbor table. There was no ambiance. Just loud. Our crab cocktail appetizer was great, but the scallop dinner was not very good. Went last night for the first time and thought very nice inside. Food smelled delicious but didn't eat as we just went for drinks. The female bartender was so unfriendly! Never smiled and when i asked to back my friends up with a drink she didn't ask if they were ready and do what most bartenders do and put a shotglass on bar for when they were. My wife and I we're anxiously awaiting the opening of Half Moon point which was the old Fortes on Bridge Avenue in Point Pleasant. Dining there last night on the second day of operation and we were certainly not disappointed. Although the restaurant was packed and perhaps a couple of glitches in the electronic systems​ the meal was outstanding and the staff and service was outstanding. I ordered the shrimp and grits and sometimes the Grits are difficult to get right .. they were perfect. My wife ordered a tuna steak and was also cooked perfectly. My only complaint a very small one was that at the Caesar salad which was ordered Alacarte was a little on the small side some people ordering that for a meal or a side by itself may be disappointed in the size other than that we could not have expected any more ....Bravo to the owners and the staff getting it right the second day. We ate there last night. I ordered a Vermont IPA and the waitress brought a dirty glass , my wife ordered unsweetened iced tea and she didn't bring sugar or Splenda and then when she asked for it she still never brought it. The short rib panini was good though a bit dry , and you can get onion rings instead of fries for an up charge, actually I don't think I've ever had worse onion rings in my life. We also ordered the pork chop it was supposed to have and fig balsamic glaze neither of which was on it . The manager came to ask how everything was and we have no silverware for about five minutes and then she sort of made it the 18-year-old waitress look like it was her fault meanwhile I think it was lack of management. . I have zero complaints. This places was busy beyond belief but the staff was amazing and nothing but welcoming. The bartender (forgot him name) was awesome with recommendations and very friendly. I went with my boyfriend to dinner and a staff member accidentally bumped into me and spilled my drink. The manger came up to us several minutes later and apologized with a free round of drinks. Before we were able to get the free round, our table was ready. The manager recognized us even in the big crowd and then offered us free desserts of our choosing. This restaurant has a wonderful vibe. It's very calm and quiet and intimate. The menu is perfect for the beach surrounding. The olive oil has special rosemary in it and it's pretty looking but tastes bland. There are cute pillows on the chairs, 10/10 would recommend. Went to Half Moon Point last Friday evening. First thing we noticed was the sound level inside. VERY noisy. Owners need to work on some sound deadening features. We were able to be seated outside on deck. Nicely appointed, however the seat backs on the chairs are canted too far backwards, making it difficult to sit up and eat. Food; Brussels sprouts were outstanding, oysters on half also a good choice. Ahi tuna tacos were good and three were served. Cali. burger salad would have been better if burger was med. rare as ordered vs. med. well as served. Service; was ok given they are still working bugs out. Overall Half Moon will be a great joint for locals for a casual burger and drinks. Not so much for a nice dinner out. read more

Friendly and attentive staff, interior clean and very pleasing looking but the bottom line, every time we ordered a diverse array of items from the menu all the food was under seasoned, overcook, or over salted but most importantly the quality of the food itself was just inferior. Most items , including the seafood, was from a frozen food source and that's just plain old wrong when your location is the Jersey Shore ( with a fresh fish market less that a quarter mile down the road). Disappointing service and disappointing food. Service involved having to ask several times for items. We asked twice for bread after every other table appeared to have theirs. The 2 in our party who had soup had to ask for spoons. The one who had steak had to ask for a steak knife. One family member had to ask 3 different staff members for another beer. Re the food the fried Brussel sprouts were delicious. The soups were lukewarm and really should have been sent back. The crab cakes were cool. They were big but there was little lump crab in there. The medium rare steak was like leather. It's a nice clean restaurant with a good range of foods. However if you're looking for good food with good service you'll probably be a little disappointed like we were. read more
