We ordered Banana Bread which was listed as coming with honey and walnuts and butter. When the food arrived my jaw dropped. There was a small plate with ONE SMALL slice of bread cut in half and a little tin of butter. No honey etc. And yes, you read that correctly, ONE SMALL SLICE of banana bread - and the cost for this one slice of bread: $18.00. $18.00!!!!!!!!!' How. Dare. They. I will tell everyone I know that there are terrific water view restaurants all along the Hudson that don't insult their customers by overcharging and under serving. How. Dare. They. Nothing will get me back in that restaurant and I'll make sure plenty of others follow. read more

I'm updating a four star review of a year ago, not for the better. First, we waited quite a long time for an outdoor table for five on a beautiful summer Sunday, as expected. When brought inside, the receptionist said "there has been a communication issue" (AKA screw-up) and had us sit inside waiting for a table quite a while, the annoyance guage trending upwards. I'm not a no-indoors COVID fanatic, but this was aggravating. Finally under pressure, they planned to sit us at a four-person table and stick an extra chair on the end. My wife nearly blew (I'm so so happy when it's her not me, as it only happens once every ten years or so!) and had them bring us over to a larger table, starting our lunch on a sour note. They now have policy of CHARGING ONE DOLLAR PER PERSON FOR A BREAD BASKET. How un-necessary and insulting is that? Nickle and diming a customer is a sure fire way to irritate your patrons. Yes it was served with two nice olive oils and shredded parm to sprinkle on top, but they should go back to including it with a meal, as do 99.99999% of other restaurants. And the brunch food was....OK, nothing spectacular, maybe a notch up from a quality Greek diner breakfast at double the price. Yes the setting is exceptional, one of only a handful of restaurants sitting on the lower Hudson. But guys you need to step up your game to get me back to four stars, which could be a while as our next Hudson-view trip will be Harvest on Hudson . read more

Went to brunch there yesterday with another couple. There were several private parties going on. We were seated at our noon reservation and greeted pleasantly by our waiter. We were told that they were out of French toast so we all ordered the English Breakfast. Our food arrived. Eggs were overcooked, bacon too salty. Coffee was lukewarm. I asked for jelly for my overdone English muffin and was told they had none. Service once we placed our order was subpar. This was not an inexpensive brunch. I gave it two stars because of the view. We went on a Friday/steak night. The prime rib was tough and cold. The portion was generous and the creamed spinach delicious. The short rib on the restaurant week menu was 1 small piece of meat and a little dry. Great polenta, both could be warmer. The drinks are generous pours and NY prices. The clams are a variety of sizes for little necks from 2 regular size, 1 medium and very small. Calamari, and octopus appetizers were fabulous. Bread (served with grated cheese and oils) are $1.00 per person and must be requested because of prior waste. That is reasonable and it is served warm- butter by request. Great place to sit outside on a Friday evening and enjoy the scenery. Not the best place to have brunch. Appetizers, the coconut shrimp and calamari was good. As for an entree, I ended up getting French Toast, they were a little too hard and tasted more like toast with cinnamon. If you're going to make French Toast, be sure that the bread soaks in the batter. I did not finish it, couldn't enjoy a less flavor dish. I picked at some fries, they are pretty good. A family member of mine returned her Caesar Salad after taking one bite, the lettuce was drenched and soggy. I happen to look over, noticing that her lettuce was brown. Bad food = do not serve! The service was not the best, the waiter took forever and lacked checking on us. Lastly, the smell of the restaurant was not pleasant, it had a musty smell. I reviewed this restaurant on OpenTable the summer of '13. Despite my not so positive review I keep coming back to Half Moon, mainly for the beautiful, relaxing view. You know how I feel about outdoor seating with a view, right? Man, oh man, that view!! Did I mention the view? I did right. I did mention the view. Okay, so all I can say is lucky for Half Moon that the view can't be changed, but unfortunately for them neither has the service. The service at Half Moon is so inconsistent. The hostesses and the waitresses we've encountered on separate occasions forgot everything they were taught about hospitality training. No enthusiasm with the greeting and no farewell on your exiting. The service has a theme of being lackadaisical. Which is a shame because the restaurant itself looks upscale with its design, decor, and view so these things alone should demand that the service be on par. We mainly just have drinks and maybe an app when we sit outside. We've had the Duck Tacos and the Lamborghini's, though small they are tasty. The Half Moon Burger with fries is a decent portion, but has inconsistencies on the cooking temps...medium has come out well done on a few occasions. It's obvious that your paying for the view and nothing else. So the food, has its ups and downs, but that's not the only problem around here, its their inattentive waitstaff. On the other hand we've been fortunate to have a bus boy who compared to our waitress on one particular day, had more service skills than the waitress, hence the inconsistency. Regardless of the hostess and waitresses bad service, we'll still leave an appropriate tip with the hopes that the bus boy gets most of it, because he's more deserving for his attentiveness and serving etiquette. When's the last time someone has actually waited until both parties are finished with there meals and then politely asks both parties this question? 'Are you finished with your meals?' I know it's not 5 star dining but this practice has been lost all over restaurants today. Unless you go to a $$$$ restaurant and even then it's not guaranteed that you'll see this practiced. Despite these things I will be back, because I don't want to give up that beautiful view and I have hopes that they will read the majority of the reviews on Yelp and improve. Location, Location, Location. What a view! Jeez! As you're driving to Half Moon, being high on that nearby road, gives you a stunning view of the restaurant and the Hudson. Half Moon delivers gorgeous water view. Settled on a delicate Green salad with tuna, shrimp, salmon and sole. Greens were dressed nicely with sesame seeds in a soy dressing. And to finish, a nice, warm chocolate gooey cake with a scoop of raspberry sorbet, waited for me. The restaurant mixes sophisticated and chic, both inside and out with a bit of rustic. No matter where you sit, the Hudson is right smack in front of you. I loved it every second. I'll return, and agree with past reviews- food is decent, but lacked in total elegance. Much like Sally Van de Hey, a girl from my high school, I get around (albeit in a more wholesome way). So that is why I found myself in Dobbs Ferry on a glorious Wednesday night to meet a friend for dinner at Half Moon. It was a beautiful spring evening and we sat out on the deck while we ate. The views are absolutely stunning! You can see the Tappan Zee just a couple of miles away but you can also see down to the GW Bridge and One World Trade is visible, too! Watching the sun set over the Hudson is spectacular as well. So for ambiance, this place wins! Service was pretty nice..unassuming but always there when you needed it. When I sat down, there was bread on the table along with two types of olive oil (including one spiced with red pepper, yum!) and some shredded cheese. The bread and oil was great. We started with the lobster roll sliders, which were very tasty. I ate two of the three but one would have been enough because they were pretty generous portions. My friend had the mussels and fries, which she enjoyed. I had a stuffed codfish wrapped in bacon which was very tasty. It was served in a deep pan and had shellfish, choriozo and veggies in it. We were going to order dessert but then I realized we'd been there for almost two hours and I had a train to catch back to the city. I'm sure when the weather is nice it's a tough ticket to get one of those outside tables but this would be a great way to spend a relaxing weekend afternoon. We go to Half Moon because this restaurant sits on the bank of the Hudson River in Dobbs Ferry, NY. It is so calming and lovely to sit, eat and sip by the water with friends and family. That has been my experience and I've been going to Half Moon for more than five years. Half Moon's interior is nice and the exterior tables are set-up with the idea of having a view of the river for all patrons. The river is beautiful and its closeness is calming. The problem that occurred during my recent visit is the quality of the food and drinks. The wait service was below par too. I sat with 4 friends and we ordered two of the same and two different drinks for the other folks Each one of us commented on the taste and lack of alcohol in our drinks. Two of my friends sent their drinks back. I accepted mine because I usually just go along but I wasn't pleased. Next, we ordered our meal. All that we ordered was microwaved food and that was not the case previously. The taste was blah. The quality of Half Moon's food was on a scale of good to excellent, but now it's from mediocre to microwaved. I'm willing to pay the price if the offerings match but it didn't. This is not a one off. My friends and me feel our previous visit showed signs of Half Moon falling off their pedestal. We're not going back. read more

We went for 4th of July with my fiancé and everyone working there was very friendly. It seems that there were many new employees and their service has improved tremendously since the pandemic. Too pricey for the entries. I order a fried fish that suppos came with some eggplants. But it was like just a decorative thing. Had to order fries since it will a side order to get right away and my fish not get cold. The menu is poor in choices. I will only come back for a burger next time. Aug 2022, came here with friends and had a good time. Our server was wonderful, and food came out quickly. Plus you cannot beat the view of the Hudson River. Plenty of tables inside and outside, plus plenty of parking. We just ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs 28 dollars from the Appetizer section and a Hamburger 26 dollars. The food was good, no complaints. Yes the meals were pricy and since we did not pick the restaurant we couldn't complain, plus this was a great place to get all 6 of us together. My advice is to make reservations, just don't walk in because you maybe waiting along time. read more

The is a delicious place for dinner! It's right by the water and has a gorgeous view of the boats passing by and the sunset. There are a lot of large tables with lounge chairs and couches surrounding it. The seafood bruschetta was delicious, with lots of clams, mussels, and garlic bread. The cookery was fully booked so I found my beleaguered self at this woeful establishment that could charitably be described as a "waterfront-esque" situation if you were writing about it for a pamphlet, or something. After grievously pondering why the drinks menu hadn't arrived for upwards of 25 minutes, I spent the equivalent of a month's rent for a Greenwich village apartment for a tub of Trader Joe's guacamole that had been plopped unceremoniously onto Pottery Barn-style bowl. I had a glass of still tap water, which was delivered to me in 14 minutes and that was the highlight of my evening. Added an additional star for the Enya soundtrack that played on repeat, LOVED that What I love a little less , is my dips$!t boyfriend who suggest this be a palatable alternative. This is one of my new favorite restaurants. The views are breathtaking, so amazing. On top of that, the food and service is exceptional. When we got there of course there was a little wait, being that it's first come first served and the seating arrangement has to comply with the new way of living because of COVID. They took us to there waiting area which is outside and has the cutest bar area. Half way into my glass of champagne and our table was ready. The waitress was very informative and gave us her insight on a couple of dishes. All in all I was very pleased and can't wait to come back. read more

Drinks took long to receive. Food was sub par. Best part is the view but charge a $50 reservation fee ahead of Mother's Day and then lousy service? It was disappointing and I'm surprised because I had been a patron before. If you can't handle the holiday crowd then don't keep letting people in? This place definitely went downhill. Reading other reviews it also sounds like regular business days customers are complaining about service aside from the price inflation. Really sad because this place used to be really good. Restaurant itself is beautiful, big , spacious with lot of outdoor seating's with beautiful gorgeous view of Hudson. I made reservations on yelp and got there on time. Luckily outdoor seating was available and we got seated immediately. Our server was nice & friendly. Service was fast. I will give 3 stars for food. My husband order Warm Spanish Octopus $28 it was just regular lettuce salad with big chunks of Potatoes & Octopus it was OK. For the price I was expecting something much better. I ordered Spicy Peruvian Halibut Ceviche $18 it was really good & delicious small quantity however for me it was enough & I ordered sweet Potato fries for $9 which was ok nothing worth to mention. Ordered Cheese cake for dessert which was ok too. I will go there again to enjoy summer evening for ambiance & view. But I won't be expecting much on food for sure. Absolutely beautiful place, no doubt, which is why I gave it a two.Unfortunately, the service was very bad. No one knew which dish went to which guest at our table of 6, so there was the "food auction" that you would expect in a pizza joint. Because the place is so gorgeous and the cost of the food so high, we expected the service and food to be commensurate with the views. The food was acceptable; nothing to rave about. At the end of our meal, the two bills we had were totally screwed up...wrong amount on wrong card after the waiter returned the bill so we could actually use our own calculators to give him an exact amount to ring up. ?????? I came here on a Thursday afternoon with my staff during restaurant week. The place is gorgeous and the location and view is definitely a plus. Service was great. Our server who I believe his name was Joseph, was great and attentive. He even made suggestions on what entree to order.. In which he suggested either the chicken or the fish tacos. I decided to go with the chicken along with 4 others in my table. We started with the appetizers in which I chose the shrimp and salmon ceviche which was pretty bomb. Unfortunately, that's where it stopped for me. When my chicken entree arrived I was less than impressed. Although the portion was nice and large, the chicken was dry and tasteless. It lacked flavor which was an utter disappointment. I was not the only one unhappy with my choice of entree, the other 3 people in my party who had ordered the chicken were also unhappy. We mentioned it to our waiter and he was definitely apologetic and said he could bring something else out for us. In which we all declined at that point. Although we had a bad experience with our meals, I must say that the other 4 were happy with their choices. The one meal that really looked amazing was the coconut flounder. After our entrees, then came our dessert. I chose the flour-less chocolate cake which was also dry and just not what I expected. Maybe it was my poor choices in food but I was very underwhelmed with my experience at Half Moon. I gave this place a 3 stars because although my entree and dessert wasn't the best. I know that there were others who enjoyed their meals at my table. Our server was more than sympathetic towards our dissatisfaction that he even took off those 4 meals and gave us a round of shots to celebrate the birthday of one of our part members. Ordered a grain bowl, it didn't say anything about pickled in it, but all the vegetables were pickled and not tasty!!!how do you mess up a bowl?? Was supposed to be a healthy dish, but so much vinegar, the Greek dressing is also inedible. The French fries so salty it was like licking salt!!! Also my mom didn't like her flounder sandwich as it was too spicy. The grain bowl was like $26 for PICKLED veggies that I couldn't eat on quinoa.
