I went with friends on an October night. They wanted to sit outside (unfortunately). It was around 70 degrees when we arrived at a little past 6PM, so I was like alright... but the restaurant is on the water so I should have known this was not going to be a good idea lol. Thankfully I brought a light coat because there were no actual heat lamps outside. They had tiki torches, but that provided literally NO heat at all. Probably for aesthetics. I mean... our waiter was wearing a winter coat. Like a puffer jacket. I wish I took a picture lol. Where should I start? This place is just too amazing! From the Drinks, the appetizers, the main entree to the desert, everything was just FABULOUS!!! I had drank Red Sangria in almost all the restaurants I visit, but THIS SANGRIA was just tooooo DELICIOUS!! I haven't had one like this before. The Fried Calamari was so good as well with that sweet and spice sauce it was just to die for . For my entree I had the Shrimp and beans salad. It was sooo good! My partner had a Filet Mignon with mash potato and it was too freaking delicious as well. And to finalize the course we shared a Carrot Cake, and let me you!! THIS WAS SOOOOOO MOIST, SWEET AND PERFECT!! The customer service was on point. Our server was very attentive, efficient, pleasant and friendly. All the food and drinks came to our table really fast. Half Moon was one of the first places I reviewed on Yelp a few years back. I wasn't a fan - I thought they were suffering from an identity crisis and the food didn't impress me. I really had no interest in coming back but circumstance found me here so I decided to make the best of it and see if anything changed. Half Moon is one of many Westchester restaurants situated on the Hudson River. As such, the restaurant has amazing views with ample outdoor seating. The indoor aesthetics are very nice, it has a good balance of upscale decor but also a nice bar and lounge area which keeps it down to earth. The menu was really all over the place; New England clam chowder, dumplings, chicken and waffles, burgers - I was getting really mixed signals as to the culinary message Half Moon was trying to convey. I decided to start with a salad - it contained lettuce, goat cheese, dried cranberries, and beets. The salad was fine - it was tasty and plentiful but nothing special. For my main I decided to get pecan-crusted pork cutlets which were served with sautéed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The dish wasn't good; I didn't like the cuts of pork they used - they also lacked flavor and were realllly greasy. They were served with a horseradish sauce which helped some, but I could only get through half of one cutlet - it just didn't work. The mashed potatoes were better, as well as the broccoli. For dessert I had the salted caramel cheesecake which was tasty but not outstanding. Service was just okay; We were a party of 9 - before we ordered we requested two separate checks, one for my party of 4 and another for the remaining 5. However when we got the checks they were all wrong so we ended up combining the total and dividing equally (I guess we should have done that to begin with). Anyway, Half Moon didn't impress me. What they deliver is in similar vein to other restaurants on the Hudson, but there is no clear identity with the food they serve. To add insult to injury, the food just isn't that good (and expensive!). By their powers combined, Half Moon remains a 2 for me - there are better places to check out in Westchester, some of them right here in Dobbs Ferry. read more

Very beautiful place! The restaurant is right on the Hudson River with the most beautiful views of the manhattan skyline and the tappan zee bridge in the distance . Came here for dinner and the food and drinks were great, the tables were spaced out nicely even inside the restaurant. I got the miso glazed cod and it had a really interesting caramelized plum sauce that the cod was sitting on, it was sweet and tart at the same time. It also came plated with bok choy which complimented the fish very well. This restaurant has great food and drinks, though it seems over-priced. However, the view and atmosphere makes this venue worthwhile to visit for big or small groups. This restaurant is located by the Hudson River with a great view which is you can enjoy more during the summertime due to its dope outdoor seating. The place has an upscale vibe but can also be pretty laid back- so you can drop in for a quick brunch in yoga pants and you won't be judged. They generally don't take reservations but it's never been so full that we can't get a table right away. The service is good too as the staff has been attentive at every visit we've had. No issues there. Though their food is pretty good, it is a bit on the expensive side. I think you ultimately end up paying for its location with a view and its "upscale vibe." So far we've tried the lobster rolls, the oysters, the ceviche, filet mignon, New York strip steak, and fries. They've all been pretty good and filling for the most part. Though many lobster rolls tend to have a strong, fishy taste, the lobster roll at this restaurant os buttery, which masks any sort of excess fishiness. In fact, this is probably one of the better lobster rolls tasted. The drinks are also very good and strong. Specifically, the white sangria is a must try if you're in the mood for a tropical and refreshing drink. Lastly, the appetizers were good as well. However, beware that these appetizers are small (as tends to be the case for more upscale restaurants), so you may want to double up or buy multiple appetizers if you're there with a big group. Overall, this is a cool brunch or dinner spot to visit with a group after a long day of work or on a nice weekend. The outside view makes coming during the day an easy motivator, and the indoor decorations make a night time visit fun. This is definitely a cool place to visit. read more

The food is sub par and the evening bartender with resting face has an awful attitude, serving sloppy messy drinks that hardly have alcohol at $16-18 a pop. This is my 2nd time here and the 2nd time we wanted to get drinks at bar bc it was raining and outside was not open. We ended up at another place because of the bartenders attitude. What ended up being annoying was the complimentary bread offered to another table was not even offered to us. We ordered our main courses. I got the seafood bruschetta which honestly is a shareable item (wish I'd known what they meant by that instead of blindly ordering it but it's ok). Not the best, the broth was whatever. What annoyed me was the the grilled bread seeped into the broth and left like that, which made it a really soggy consistency. Not the best choice. My girlfriend ordered the lamb chops which were delicious and probably the only best part of the meal. The portions were large which was nice. We ended the night with a dessert. Got the carrot cake. This was a beautiful restaurant. There is outdoor seating available while you wait for your table. We luckily found two empty chairs and were able to sit right along the rocks and water to watch the beautiful sunset. There were waiters coming around to serve drinks and food from a mini selection of appetizers. We didn't mind waiting two hours for a table since it's first come first serve. The dinner itself was delicious- steak plate, salmon and the taco appetizer. We also had a little duck walking around which was cute. Other places we went to for dinner during COVID did not serve snacks and drinks while waiting for a table, but luckily this place did. The tables were spaced out and the staff wore masks. I've come here a few times and always have a pleasant experience. There's plenty of room both indoor and outdoor but this place is popular and doesn't take reservations so you might have to wait. That said, The view is the main reason I eat at Half Moon - it's incredible! The food and drinks are good but the service is slow and sometimes a little inattentive. We had an order of calamari which was cooked perfectly. For lunch I ordered the prime rib sandwich, the lobster Mac n cheese and my mom had the N.Y. strip. All of our meals were cooked perfectly and the portions were huge. The sandwich was very flavorful and moist with a spicy mustard which took it over the top. I stick to the seafood options and have never tasted anything I didn't absolutely love. Some of my fav's are the salmon a la plancha, baked clams, the crab cake, charred octopus, linguini in white clam sauce, and the seafood bruschetta. Everything tastes fresh not "fishy" and the portions are a healthy size. Order a cool as a cucumber cocktail, sit outside, and watch the sunset. This is a beautiful place seated along The Hudson. The bathrooms were clean and tidy. The attentive staff kept the wine flowing. The Pastrami Reuben Spring Rolls were an original concept using pastrami instead of corned beef. This sounds delicious but these were surprisingly dry considering a fattier meat was used, and the Russian dressing tasted like plain mayonnaise I had the Prime Beef cooked for medium rare, received medium and it was not a great cut of beef. It was a bit plain. I did not taste my friend's Tequila Shrimp in Garlic butter sauce (I should have tasted it. This is a seafood place). The coffee and fresh fruit were delicious. Let's start with the positives. Half Moon has an amazing view, great drinks, and decent food. However, the service was horrible. Almost, to the level of a McDonalds or some taco stand. As soon as we walked in we noticed their bad customer service. We waited about 5 minutes to be noticed by one of the 4 hosts standing behind the desks. They were joking with each other and another looking at her phone. We could tell the couple in front of us were annoyed as well. When we were finally acknowledged by one of the hosts, she appeared annoyed and forced to speak to us. She mentioned there's a 25 minute wait, got our details and turned to talk to her coworker. I had to ask her 3 times where the bar is and all she did was point? At the bar, the bartenders did prepare great drinks but were indifferent and not friendly at all. Once we sat down. Our server was ok but definitely needs more training. We ordered their tapas which were very good but small and pricey. We made a special request and kudos to him for his speedy delivery.
