I got the spicy beef for $6.99 and was very impressed! Tasty and crunchy pastry with a flavorful and spicy beef filling. I ordered ones of their iced fruit drinks which was essentially your choice or lemonade/iced tea (or both) with a squirt of coffee flavor. I chose the mango with lemonade. The drink was fine, however everywhere I went (seated at the bar, boarding the plane, on the plane) I was questioned about whether or not there was alcohol in it. I think this empanada place can utilize a little more love? As of yesterday (2/25/2025), the shop has 3+ stars. People tend to criticize businesses at an/any airport but sometimes we need to step back and think, "What if this place existed outside the airport? Would the rating be any different?" Let's talk about prices first. Their empanadas are priced at $6.50. And they are decently sized. I don't call this super overpriced. Overall cleanliness is also what I don't want to forget to mention. They have no chairs or tables to sit down and eat right at the store so this is strictly a take out place (so you'll go to your gate and sit there to eat.) All the empanadas are neatly placed in trays inside the glass showcase. Nothing looked dirty. And they are under the warmers so your empanada will be warm upon being handed to you. Service was also friendly and quick. My time being there was a quick 1 minute interaction . And off I went to my gate with no wasted time/energy. Oh, most importantly, the Spinach & Cheese empanada tasted pretty good. They also have sweet empanadas for sweet tooth. Half Moon empanada is located close to the center point of concourse B at Denver International Airport. I arrived after a very delayed flight so wanted a quick bite to eat while I ride the train to get on my way to home and this seemed like a perfect choice. They have a good selection of empanadas and I tried the regular beef and spicy beef empanada. Both were pretty good. Had no idea that Half Moon Empanadas is a national chain. But I am an assiduous lover of empanadas, and throughout my travels in most countries in Latin America, I invariably have at least one occasion where I eat empanadas. Quick, tasty, easy to make, and can serve as snacks or a full meal depending on the size or amount. I did learn that they originated in the Miami area and now have kiosks in airport throughout Miami, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Nashville, Chicago, Phoenix, Palm Springs and Minneapolis. It is worth noting it is both women owned and minority owned and I will invariably patronize these businesses. So we're schlepping at Denver's Terminal 2 from our landing at Gate 11 to our departure at Gate 65, a death march roughly three quarters of a mile, when we passed this colorful kiosk. The aroma or fresh empanadas permeated the air and then the colorful detail made it even more attractive so obviously I had to try them. Two wonderful attendants took care of our orders, expeditiously and courteously. Great service. Their empanadas are roughly the Argentinian type with smaller size and basic ingredients, such as beef or chicken and some veggies (Chilean empanadas have raisins, eggs, olives and lots of stuff) and have a distinct Mexican accent, I noticed a hint of cumin and a few selections that are spicy. They are baked or fried and they are just absolutely tasty. Their menu was varied but I had their Cheesy Gaucho Empanada that was just superb, and a Spicy Chicken Empanada that was definitely on the spicy category, I would say three alarms out of five, but enough to satisfy someone who wanted picante. I also got dulce de ledge based on their recommendation. The three cheese and beef were solid. The dolce de Leche was just stuffed with the caramel sauce. We should have leaned in on our intuition and got the guava and cheese or the hazelnut cocoa one. Either way it was a nice snack! The staff was friendly but their English was a little rough. I will admit I was on a time crunch to catch my connection but I ordered a four pack of Nutella empanadas to take home to my kids and a beef one for me to eat before catching my connection. Was very excited to try it. I got two spicy beef, spicy chicken, and a spinach. The beef is pretty ground up so the mouth feel is for lack of a better word very particle-y. I enjoyed the chicken more with its fuller texture. Spinach was on point. They have "combos" for 4 packs and more. You're saving a few cents if you do the math. Not much but in this economy anything counts. I was pretty full after 3. Wouldn't want to over do it. If I were to go back I'd likely do 2-3 because 4 seems like a lot. I grabbed the chicken and beef empanadas and both were really good--flavorful, nicely spiced, and hot enough to feel freshly made (always a plus in an airport). They're a little messy, so maybe not the ideal grab-and-go if you're sprinting to a gate in white pants--but if you've got a few minutes and a couple napkins handy, you're golden. I frequent DEN for work so this last week wasn't the first time I'd bought empanadas from Half Moon. I've tried the bacon and egg, spinach and cheese, chicken and beef. The restaurant is right under the escalator in the B concourse so United passengers have access to a very portable, mess-free breakfast / lunch option. They're pretty expensive at $7 per pocket and they aren't very large. 2 or 3 would feed one person. The wrapper is nice and thin. The fillings are pretty salty so between the price and the flavor, I only grab these when I'm near the B gates and want something that's easy to carry and eat on the go. The beef was the best. The bacon and egg had gristley bits of bacon in them that were unpleasant to eat. The spinach one is kind of watery. Chicken is the saltiest of the ones I've tried so overall the beef is the way to go if you're going to cave to convenience. read more

Sooooo the lady at the counter gave us the wrong empanadas. We clarified with her twice which ones we wanted and she still grabbed the wrong ones. On top of that, we ordered the "4 pack" at $24.44 advertised price. But she rung them up all separately at $6.50 each. When I saw an empanada stand passing through the airport, I was immediately intrigued. However, I ended up choosing to grab a sandwich somewhere else instead that was underwhelming. In the airport again on my way home, I did what I should have done the first time and just got the empanada. It was exactly what I needed: filling, flavorful, not too heavy, and the right price in a package that's easy to take with you to wherever you are headed in the airport.
