This Canadian here needed coffee. I was on a connecting flight with a 8 hour stop over from night to morning. I just needed a morning cup of java to get me through to 7am in the morning. Maria's was already open at 4:30am while others in DIA dragged themselves awake to open their doors at 5am. TBH as a coffee lover, I initially wanted LaVazza coffee so I waited for them to open at 5. But when I walked into LaVazza, I walked out in 10 seconds. The mood in there was dreary and the setting was dimly lit. Only 1 employee working the front with a huge line (no offence to the employee!). So I went back to Marie's to be infected with their Caribbean-like energy. I needed this type of energy with my coffee (I don't even know the roast or brand). Their upbeat music, the bright lights, the service and their vibe--transcended the global name brand of LavAzza. I returned to DEN to do some work and was surprised at all the concession additions in a matter of a few months... including a competitor to Half Moon. Since the work I do is mostly in the main terminal or in A concourse, I was predisposed to like Maria Empanada. And it was better if only because of the different flavors and being slightly cheaper. I'm on a roll avoiding beef so I asked for an Egg & Potato, Mushroom, Spinach and Cotija (Bean & Corn) empanadas. Not sure what was going on with the guy putting them in bags and boxes. I asked for the above and he gave me two. I wasn't sure what he put in it, so I told him again what I wanted and that confused him even more. I did end up with all of the ones I wanted to try but with two of the Egg & Potato so he ended up putting them in a box and tossing a bag and I had to buy 5 instead of 4. Not a big deal but we are talking almost $7 per pastry. The total was over $40 with a tip. I didn't want to tempt fate and eat them before the flight so they weren't piping hot when I ate any of them, but that might have been in their favor because I was able to make out all the flavors. All of them were good. The only weak one was the corn and cotija. It wasn't bad, but it didn't pop. I would definitely go back. You can't beat empanadas for portable travel friendly food! read more

I ordered my food to go, not for dine-in. The restaurant looked clean, and the food on display looked fresh and very appealing, which gave me high expectations. Unfortunately, the empanadas were disappointing. They didn't taste good and were not what I expected based on how they looked. The service could also be improved. Even though my order was for takeout, the server repeatedly asked, "Anything else?" several times, which made the interaction feel rushed and uncomfortable. Honestly for an airport restaurant, this spot is great. They had a variety of empanadas to choose from and each of them is like $6.85 and they're decently filling actually, I wasn't very hungry but a single one made me feel comfortably full. I had the miso chili crisp steak because it sounded unique and was new, and the worker said it was one of his new favorites. Can't say the miso flavor came through much but the flavor in general was great! It went well with the matcha latte I bought at Peet's coffee next door. Overall glad I found this place - sometimes I just want a quick, not terribly expensive snack in an airport that is portable and can be eaten quickly, and these absolutely fit the bill!! Maria Empanada at the Denver Airport was a great find while waiting for my flight. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly, making it easy to grab a quick bite without feeling rushed. I had heard nothing but great reviews about Maria Empanada in the Denver International Airport from fellow flight attendants. After also seeing how many great reviews they had I decided to give them a try and they did not disappoint!!! Located near the A gates, ME is a cute, bright, super clean space staffed with friendly people! There are tons of flavor options along with sauces and sweet treats. I ended up trying the Spinach, Diego, Beef and Argentina (not all on the same day-lol!!). The spinach and cheese talked like fresh spinach- the Diego was chicken and savory, the beef was full of flavor and filling- but the stay here for me was the Argentina (a had been sold out in my first visit) it's filled with steak and veggies- with the red sauce I got to go with it, it was AMAZING!!! These empanadas are the perfect airplane food! I got an egg and potato, and a bacon egg and cheese empanada. As well as one of the Alfajor cookies-- traditional flavor. Loved how the cookie was individually wrapped. And how the empanadas are stamped with the flavor. The empanada were soo good. Not greasy, and a great little handheld for on the plane. The cookie was yummy. But I probably wouldn't get it again for on the plane. When I started to eat it, it kind of was crumbling a little bit. Which was a little awkward. Not horrible, I'm just being picky. I'd get it again, if eating in the terminal, because it was delicious. But next time I'll get one of the dessert empanadas for on the plane. I'll be honest - I haven't tried their empanadas (I'm usually eating Tocabe) BUT I always stop at this location for their orange juice. They have a Zummo machine that squeezes fresh oranges and it is the best! I fell in love with the Zummo machines in Germany (I found them everywhere) but this is the only one I've seen in the US. Empanadas are $6.25 each and sweet empanadas are smaller at $3.35 each. They have just the right amount of filling. I have tried the Argentina, Sierra, Chorizo & Egg, and the Mushroom and Spinach over my last couple visits on my back to back travels. They are room temp warm vs hot. I definitely prefer them hotter in temp. This lil spot is gaining traction over the week so there is a line when you first walk up but it moves pretty fast. Service is fairly quick and easy. I stopped in at the airport location to get something to eat before my flight. I had the Argentina and Mushroom empanadas. They were up[ very quickly which made me wonder how good they would be if they were just reheated, but there was no reason to wonder. These were delicious. Hot, crispy with just the right amount of filling. They were fairly large portions for the price which is unusual for the airport, haha. I will absolutely come back and try the others.
