When you want fresh seafood in a nice restaurant, this is where you need to dine. Staff is very attentive and the perfect atmosphere for dining.

This is a cute little fancy place in Montclair, perfect for celebrating a special occasion. We love seafood and enjoyed all our dishes. I recommend the salmon crudo, grilled octopus, and the ceviche special for apps. For entree we shared the seafood paella, which was loaded with clams, mussels, shrimp, and chorizo. There were a bit too many peas, however . Overall, nice experience.

Had lunch at Halcyon in Montclair and really enjoyed the crispy tofu bowl. The tofu had a great crunch, the rice was filling and everything felt fresh without being heavy. Portions were solid, service was friendly, and the space has a nice vibe. Would definitely order this again.

Came here on a Sunday with my husband. We had reservation and they took us right away. It may take you a little bit of time to find street parking so make sure you plan for that. We ordered a rainbow roll as an appetizer which was delicious. that was probably my favorite part. My husband got the filet mignon, which he enjoyed, and I got the paella, which was also great. I like how portions were perfectly sized. They didn't skimp out on the seafood either which happens a lot at other places. The spicy margarita was tasty. I got the chocolate covered strawberries as a dessert, which was a nice way to end the night. Overall, a nice date night location.

I went to Halcyon for brunch with my friend and I enjoyed myself. The ambiance was amazing. The restaurant has is so inviting. The outside has vines and flowers around with some lighting that lights up at night. It's very enchanting. The food was amazing. Jeff our waiter was outstanding. He was warm and friendly and he knew the menu very well. He even told us the special for the day. He also gave great recommendations. I love my guavallini, so delicious. My friend had the Amore Mio. That has champagne, raspberry and Limoncello. We ordered the special seafood quesadilla which including real fresh crab meat, shrimp and lobster meat. I have never had a quesadilla stuffed the way these were. So mouthwatering, flavorful and delicious. I also had the chicken and waffles. Hands down some of the best chicken and waffle ever. The chicken Jeff our waiter explained boneless chicken breast deep fried with two waffles. The chicken was drizzled woth sweet chilli sauce. I just loved the sweet chilli sauce on the chicken just the right amount of sweet and heat. The food was so good I could have picked the bowl. Brunch was amazing I could have ordered some more food. This place was definitely worth coming to. I plan to be back for the other specials while they are still around in season.

Stopped here as an in between spot from where I was coming from to where I would be headed. I had been here once before with a group of friends and had a good time. The decor and atmosphere is nice and chill. Music not overpowering; you can hear people talking. This time I sat at the bar. The bartender was a bit abrupt and unfriendly to start. I was deciding on my drink order and he came by curtly asking what I wanted. I replied with "I haven't decided yet." He walked off. I decided to order the same thing I did last time to eat, the smoked salmon plate. This time however, the salad looked a bit wilted and the cooked portion of salmon ( you get a smoked portion and a cooked portion) was overcooked. It was dry and hard to cut into. On top of that, the bartender was quite rude to another patron sitting near me. Telling her "You came in with an attitude." When she attempted to bring his behavior to his attention. I thought that was highly unprofessional. No matter what you and a customer disagree about, you don't say something like that. All in all, it could have been a better 2nd experience without that type of service/interaction I witnessed. In all fairness, the other bar helper was sweet and friendly. Would I come back again??? Not sure. Food was just ok this time. Unfortunately because I heard great things about this place as well as had a fairly good first time here.

This place just gets better as it ages with time. Iliana and Marshall are wonderful people running and outstanding restaurant. DaVinci still holding down the bar brings me joy. You can come here for after work drinks, a birthday dinnner, a lively private party, or an intimate romantic experience. Also great during brunch season. In the summer the patio is the place to be.

Great drinks, great food, great service! The place is really well decorated. I find the espresso martinis here to be the best I've tried in all of Montclair. Even if I'm out for dinner elsewhere, I'll definitely stop in for one here.

Went to Halcyon for Martini Hour and ended up staying longer than planned. Drinks were solid, not rushed, and the atmosphere was lively but still comfortable enough to actually talk. It felt like a nice step up from a typical happy hour without being stuffy. Definitely a good spot to stop in for drinks before dinner or to catch up with friends.

We ate here around 1:30PM on a Saturday and found the restaurant moderately busy which we figured was a good sign. Note that there are multiple entrances into the restaurant so you'll want to make sure you actually find the hostess desk so you can make sure you get seated properly. The venue itself is pretty expansive, featuring a dining foyer, then bar area with high tops and then another larger dining area towards the back. Our waiter was friendly and attentive though we found most of the food to be quite salty. We started off with their daily soup (a chicken tortilla-type one) as it was cold outside and found it extremely over-salted. For our mains we ordered a double-cheeseburger and the fish and chips which both came highly recommended on the menu. The burger was pretty solid and a hearty portion of food, though I was disappointed it didn't come with fries which have to be ordered separately (~$7-$9 upcharge depending on whether you get Parmesan or not). I think the meat is Pat La Frieda which is high quality and was pretty stuffed after eating it. The onion rings were also tasty (though again, quite salty) and were a generous portion which I was pleased considering they're $12. Finally, the fish & chips my partner ordered were solid though again, really salty. Overall, I'd recommend coming here if you're looking for a nice, simple place to get a burger and the basics. Their menu is pretty extensive featuring everything from chicken pot pies, quesadillas and fish but I'd recommend sticking to the classics. 2/5 for the food, 4/5 for the ambiance/service.

This one pound mozzarella stick definitely fulfilled that criteria. It was so gigantic it was almost like getting a workout in just to lift it. The outside was heavily breaded with bread crumbs and the top was sprinkled with parmesan cheese and chopped scallions. Even the dipping cup was supersized to accommodate the diameter of the stick! Typically, I would have posted until after my I finished my oversized food compilation project. However, it's being posted early because The Brookdale is permanently closing its doors. Review: Café Faubourg - Montclair…read more Café Faubourg is one of Montclair's true gems--an authentic French bistro that feels as if it were lifted straight from a quiet Parisian street and placed right in the heart of town. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance sets the tone: warm lighting, intimate tables, and that unmistakable bistro charm that makes every meal feel like a small escape. The food is consistently excellent, starting with their hummus, which is surprisingly standout for a French spot. Smooth, flavorful, and beautifully plated, it's the perfect way to begin the meal and pairs wonderfully with their fresh bread. The steak frites is a must-order and easily one of the best in the area. The steak is tender and cooked exactly to preference, richly seasoned without being heavy, and served alongside crisp, golden fries that are everything you want in a classic bistro dish. It's simple, authentic, and prepared with the kind of care that elevates a traditional favorite into something memorable. Service at Café Faubourg is warm and attentive without being intrusive, contributing to the relaxed elegance of the experience. Whether you're dropping in for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, the staff makes you feel welcome and unrushed. For anyone looking for an authentic French bistro experience in Montclair--excellent food, inviting ambiance, and truly charming service--Café Faubourg delivers every time.

The inside has both a main dining hall and a greenhouse, which feels like basically sitting on a covered patio with well kept shrubbery and ambient lighting. It's a neat balance of modern and open while still feeling cozy. I think my favorite dish is the ramp fava bean toast -- the umami from the purée balanced with the crunch of the toast and the brightness from the pickled ramps. I'd also recommend the steak two ways -- both cuts cooked perfectly to medium rare -- and the lobster linguine was delicately fragrant, buttery, and slightly acidic all at once. The chips and eggplant dip (kind of like hummus consistency) was kind of a fun, shareable starter too. I will say that I wasn't impressed with the ceviche or branzino our waiter recommended it. The branzino particularly came out a bit dry, and more of the tomato-olive-caper side or dressing would've helped. And while our waiter answered our questions, service felt a little more on the less attentive side.
