Wow! I could not recommend a place more! This salon is filled with kind, wholesome, patient, and accommodating people! I went today to get basically a full body wax from Silva. Upon getting there, I asked if I could add a service to my appointment. She instantly helped me by moving around her schedule to fit in everything that I wanted while also making sure her other clients for the day were happy. She made the entire process as easy as possible, too! I've been getting waxed for years, and she did every part with the least amount of pain I have ever had! I don't know how she's so magical, but she is! She also talked to me throughout it, which helped a lot- and she was such a pleasure to chat with!! I have also had my hair done by Delaney. I let her know that the last salon I went to causes pain/some scarring with the bleach and explained how anxious I was. She made sure to talk to me about what was going on throughout the entire process, asked how I was doing, and was just so kind. And the hair looks FABULOUS. Be very cautious when getting bleach here. I trusted the process and ended up with severe damage -- my entire right underside is visibly fried and missing. I'm not naming the stylist because she is genuinely kind and gives great haircuts. But she talks a lot during appointments and seems to lose track of time, and I believe that's exactly what happened here. There was no timer used, and my hair was washed out in sections, far too late. From the beginning, I made it very clear that avoiding damage was my top concern. I even said I'd rather tone darker and use less bleach if needed -- and that was totally ignored. After the rinse, I parted my hair for the cut and immediately noticed stringy, broken strands. I panicked and expressed my concern, but was told this was "normal," which I know from past experience it is absolutely not. I continued pointing out the damage, and rather than acknowledging it, the stylist became visibly annoyed and shifted the conversation to distract me. I was devastated -- and still am. I only received a 10% discount and a take-home treatment, which I honestly don't think will help at this point. I paid $278 and was in the salon from 12 to almost 5 p.m., which is excessive, especially considering my hair isn't even that dark anymore. It had grown out to medium brown with some coppery foils left -- this shouldn't have taken that long, and it definitely shouldn't have left me with missing hair. read more

Horrible experience. I've been going to this salon since I was 16 and have usually been happy with the results. However I received a botched cut, layers were completely uneven and one side of my hair was significantly shorter than the other. The layers were so short and thick the ends of my hair were completely thinned out. My curtain bangs were chopped so bluntly, no blending and impossible to style. I asked for essentially a maintenance cut on my curtain bangs and an inch off the bottom to trim dead ends. I lost so much hair from the layers and hated it. I called the salon to come back in for them to take a look, and the day I was supposed to come in the girl who botched my cut called out "sick" I made another appointment a few weeks later to have them fix it. As i'm on my way to the appointment they call and tell me it was for 15 minutes earlier and they can't see me anymore because they are "squeezing me in between clients" First of all, I had this appointment in my calendar with the time. I work in a corporate office and scheduling is a huge part of my job. I do not get times wrong, my job depends on me correctly scheduling and documenting times. Second of all, the verbiage of "squeezing me in" is ridiculous. I made this appointment weeks ago, why is this a squeeze? Am I not a client and paying customer like the people you've sandwiched around my appointment? They offered to have me come in on a Tuesday, I work M-F which is why I made the appointment on a weekend, in advance. The girl on the phone was doing her best and it was not her fault, so I asked to speak with a manager, who is somehow never there. When i got the botched cut and called, the manager wasn't there either to speak with. You have to leave your name and ask for a call back. I will not be returning. Avoid at all costs. read more

I would only come back to get a haircut from a senior stylist or the owner and even then, it would still feel like a risk. My haircut came out nothing like the picture I showed the stylist. Luckily she got someone else to help.. but even then, the photo speaks for itself. It didn't look so bad at the salon but after getting home and looking closer, I wish I had them fix it to a different style. I have gone here a couple times and have had good experience, but I won't be returning after my most recent haircut. Attached to this review is what I showed the stylist and also what she gave me. First off, she cut it 2 inches more than what I asked and she started from the back so I couldn't tell her she was cutting it way too short. Second, she didn't talk to me the whole time and seemed annoyed and kept making faces as if she messed up. I ended up looking away because she was stressing me out and by the end I was almost in tears. I've been seeing Nikki B for a few years since she worked in Wakefield and now at Hairmates in Stoneham. Prior to becoming her repeat client, I was paying competitive prices for highlights and I was always stuck in the yellow stage. I don't know how Nikki does it, but she has brought me to a pale blonde, not yellowish, that I was always looking for. Nikki is an expert in fantasy color, but she's exceeded my expectation in my blonde color. I haven't written a review in a while, but I had to write after our appointment last week. Not only did Nikki knock it out of the park once again with the color, but she also cut my hair. She did as I asked and gave me long layers. I highly recommend Hair Mates in Stoneham. I had my first appointment today. Cheryl was my stylist. The salon is clean and the staff is so polite & friendly. I just happened to stop in as I don't have a stylist. I was lucky that there was an appointment available. I have very high praise for Cheryl!! I had a lovely experience here! Jade was awesome! I got a simple cut, root cover up and blow dry. She did an excellent job however what made her excellent was her kindness and check in's that I was comfortable. She gave me a tutorial on how to do my hairstyle by myself and gave me tips on how to lengthen my hair color. In addition, I saw this same service with the customer following me. She was an elderly lady who had a lot of fears about her experience and Jade made her feel beautiful and comfortable. Price wise, it is comparable to other salons in the area. It has been a family owned salon for many years, and when you go there, they treat you as a family member would. This is the worst salon I've ever visited and the owners should be aware of what terrible, rude, and abusive behavior I received this past Thursday. Apparently the owners were out of the country on a vacation. I called days before my appt and booked with an appt. I told the receiptionist that I wanted a seasonsed stylist for my cut and blowdry. She told me Nikki was good. I came in for my appt and saw Nikki who literally appeared to be on something. Her eyes were blood shot and she looked a bit off. She was at the front counter gossiping with another woman, and I the client was standing there. I don't know who they were talking about - but very very unprofessional. She was very young and I asked her how long she had been a stylist for. She said 2 years. I politely explained to her that I had requested a seasoned stylist and that I didn't mean to offend her but I'd like to see someone else. She said it wasn't a problem. We went back to front desk where julie said she could book me with Cheryl at 2pm. My original appt was 12pm. I said no problem, I'll run some errands and come back at 2. She said no problem. At 1:45 I get a vm saying I can't be seen. By that point I was already there and told to sit at Cheryl's station. This very very rude stylist Cheryl came over and was very aggressive. She made up some bs excuse about dry cut and wet cut and told me she couldn't do the cut until 3:30. I had somewhere to be at 3:30 so I couldn't wait. She grabbed my hair when explaining what a dry cut was and actually pulled my hair and it hurt. She was yelling at me and very aggressive and rude. She made some more rude comments to me and I told her I would report her to owners and she didn't care. This salon is incompetent, rude, gossipy. Another stylist saw the whole thing and I asked for her name since she saw what happened to me and she said "I'm not getting involved!" It's like a high school mean girls, gossipy place with these unprofessional, incompetitent people and I will tell everyone I know to avoid this place! Owners, shame on you for allowing this to happen! I called another salon and got in in about 20'mins from time I left there and got an amazing cut and blow out. Hairmates, you SUCK! read more

So I've been going to Hairmates now for about a year. It's great, and it's definitely a place you should consider going to to get your hair did. When I'm there, I almost always see Jade. She is fantastic. The last time I stopped in, I got my hair cut by Ashley for the first time. She is equally fantastic. I would recommend both Jade and Ashley 100%. A standard men's haircut is $30. They accept all major credit cards. Appointments can be made in advance (which is recommended), but they take a fair amount of walk-ins and typically have a good number of stylists on at any given time. One of my favorite things about this place is that they are open on Saturdays, which is fairly convenient for me since I'm not around the corner. It's worth calling in advance if you want to get a specific person. Parking is a little tricky. There is street parking, but there's maybe 4 or 5 spots on the street in front that they share with other businesses. I usually park at the Bank of America parking lot which is just past the strip Hairmates is on to the right. Stoneham is a cute area, and this is right on the cusp of their downtown. Plenty of places next to Hairmates to grab coffee or lunch. They have plenty of magazines inside and a book store is adjacent to the salon, so you can read while you are waiting for your kids or significant other. I genuinely like going here. read more

Let me start by saying that I have major haircut anxiety. I have super curly hair and it's always been difficult to find someone who will cut it eights so it looks good both curly or straight. My friend recommended Hairmates and I couldn't be happier. I'm going to be 31 in two days and I've never loved my hair so much before. I went to Cheryl. She was outstanding. My mom came with me...as an only child she's always been super over protective of my hair. She didn't let my mom stress her out. She took her time and I am so grateful! I've been to this salon on a few occasions and they've always just been average. However, it has been a quick place to go when I don't have time to make it to my regular salon for a haircut. I booked an appointment earlier this week for a 9:30AM men's cut this morning (Saturday) with Michael. After arriving five minutes early I was told he would be right with me. After waiting until 9:45 I heard the man at reception tell another worker that Michael hadn't yet arrived and he had a 9:30 appointment waiting. When I inquired, I was told Michael was right down the road. After 25 minutes of waiting and 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment I got up and left. I was surprised to look at the website after and see that Michael is actually the owner! I would have expected so much more. I wish I could rate this salon more than 5 stars! I had an appointment for hair and makeup for my engagement photos session. I was looking forward to being pampered And getting photos taken with my finance since COVID has not been to kind to us brides and grooms this year. Silva did my makeup and Kaleigh curled my hair. I felt like a million bucks! Unfortunately the photographer showed up to the session without her camera so it needed to be rescheduled. I re booked My hair with Kaleigh but unfortunately could not get more time Off For work for makeup with Silva. When I got to the salon, everyone was so sympathetic. Julie, the manager, Silva and Kaleigh went out of there way to try to help and make Me Feel special. I have never met so many kind and generous ladies in one building before! I don't understand why this place gets great reviews. I went in once with a picture of what I wanted. I wanted my hair cut and then curled. Not only when my hairdresser cut my hair lopsided she had to have someone come over and help her cut my hair. When started to curl my hair, she decided to have the other girl to help her out. My hair was above my shoulder not long at all and all they needed to use was a curling iron. The other hairdresser used a different size iron. All they did was gospip and not pay attention to what they were doing. So basically, I paid $80 for a trim that was lopsided, two different sized curls. I wouldn't go back if you paid me. I did try to call the manager but no one ever returned my phone calls. Go to Michale's if you want good service and reasonable prices. read more

The experience itself, using an Eversave or Groupon or some version of voucher, for a Keratin treatment, was really disappointing. I had Keratin last year and it did not burn my scalp, and lasted about 10 weeks. Whatever she did this time, did. Burn- A lot. I was in pain. Now, barely 6 weeks later, all the effects of the Keratin are gone, despite buying and usually only the incredibly expensive shampoo and conditioner. The one star is because the stylist was nice. But, I guess the lesson learned is you get what you pay for. I now am going to have to pay for another Keratin treatment (at full-price with my luck!) to make it through summer since my hair is very, very thick, and prone to major frizziness. For the not so nice location, Hairmates seems a bit over-priced. The salon itself is nice, but it's at the corner of a major intersection (Route 28 and Montvale Ave.). They tried to lure me back for a $65 haircut. I wish I trusted them enough to go back. read more

Hairmates saved my life!!!!! (Well, that might be a little dramatic) but Brittany DEFINITELY saved my hair...and let me tell you, it desperately needed saving. I had a horrible horrible highlights experience at a different salon and Brittany (whom I had never met) came in on her day off to stop me from nearly breaking down and fix my hair. I was so nervous about what it was going to take to fix everything, but she spent at least 20 minutes talking to me about all of my different "fix" options. This made me feel much more at ease. Brittany spent 3 hours perfecting every last hair on my head and I couldn't be more grateful. I probably sound high-maintenance, but I swear I'm not. My hair was BAD before I walked into Hairmates. The only drawback was the cost of the fix, but I probably would have paid double that with how desparate I was. Keep in mind this review is more about Brittany than Hairmates in general. I can't speak to the rest of the staff, but this seems like a great place to go. Next time I'm in need of a trim, I'll definitely be back. read more

Joe is a hair-god. He is simply extremely talented, I think as a result of both having a natural gift as well as having many years of cultivation and practice. He has been cutting my hair for 15+ years. He is careful, considerate, and incredibly detailed. The man is a perfectionist and the results show. Back in the day, under different ownership, it seemed to not have a great reputation. Being from Stoneham myself, I have heard things like that. This was a long time ago. Since then I've heard nothing but good things and I feel like they are the underdog in the Stoneham area. I went once to Hairmates with my neighbors gift certificate she had gotten from a raffle she had won. It was nice of her to give it to me. And why I cut my hair, no clue. "I needed a change." This was in 2008, probably was getting over and ex and needed a change up, isn't that why a lot of drastic hair makeovers take place? So I forget who I saw but because it was a while ago but since it was a gift certificate, they had a newer employee do it. I didn't mind. She was younger than I was (I was 21 at the time) and very personable. I had given her some pictures I printed out, Ms. Beckham being one of them. I wanted to do that short hair-do with the angle from back to front. It came out amazing. I was so happy with it and it thinned out my face. I was super excited about it and was so happy I got that certificate from my neighbor, Thanks Lisa! The atmosphere is bright and cheery. Being on that Montvale/Main corner and all the windows really makes the sun come in and fills the room up with that new feeling, which is why we all go to the hair salon, to feel new again. I since have not returned, letting my hair become a head-whore around different salons. I hate to admit that. A friend was going to Blaine at the time and I've completely ruined my hair from what it was in 2008. I do plan on returning though, for maybe a final fix, sounds like Brittnay is the way to go. read more

This salon is the amazing, I went in for a cut and blow dry with Aida and she was wonderful. Aida really made my appointment customized from asking me if the water temperature was good to asking me which way I would like to have my hair styled. I would definitely recommend this salon and stylist as her attitude and services left me leaving the salon very happy. The salon's location is very easy to get to as well. f you take social distancing and generally value your safety during this time of pandemic then I urge you to stay away from this establishment. I went on a Saturday morning and I had an appointment. The place was packed! absolutely not 6 feet of distance anywhere. Plus, some of the employees were very cavalier about face coverings, removing them frequently when much to close to each other at to the clients in the space. AWFUL experience! Had my hair "colored" here a few months ago. I'm still dealing with the repercussions. Came out w/ orange highlights on top and greenish hair on the bottom. I complained when I was at Hairmates (the charge was was $200!) I said, my hair is ORANGE *and* green!!! Then I got the hairdresser "gang up" - when another comes over and they all start being loud and saying how awesome it looks. The owner just stood there at the cash register counting his money - heard the whole thing and turned a deaf ear, wouldn't even look up. I was absolutely flabbergasted! Now the girl who "colored" my hair said I could buy the purple shampoo they were selling to try to tone down the orange - what!?!? I need to spend another $27 on special shampoo to try and FIX what you just did!?! That's your answer!? Hairmates then sent a follow up email asking how I "enjoyed" my service - I wrote the whole story and how it was nothing short of the worst hair experience EVER! Not a single reply from them. That was months ago, so I'm writing the review here. Like I said, I'm still trying to get the orange out with highlights here and there, but my hair was terribly damaged by Hairmates.
