I'm devastated. Kelly did a decent job on my hair the first time I came here so I thought a simple trim would be an easy task this time around. Turns out, not at all. I specifically indicated I only wanted a trim and I was trying to grow out layers- my hair doesn't take to them well when it is long. It wasn't until a couple hours later did I see the atrocity; I was given shelved layering, so much that I seem to have a mullet. Half my hair is just above my earlobes and the rest is just below my shoulders. I now have to find a real stylist to correct what Kelly has done, and I will be forced to cut off 3-4 inches of hair I've been trying to grow out since last summer. read more

The minute you walk in, you feel like you've been girlfriends for ages. The staff at Vanity Hair are all sweet, bubbly ladies without being overly chatty. I've worked with Catie, the owner, for the past year now after seeing her at another salon for my wedding hair. In all honesty, I'd follow her anywhere. Not only are my cuts gorgeous day-of, they're actually cut so well I can do it myself at home. While my blow-outs aren't as good as Catie's, I can get close enough for everyday wear, and that's fantastic. She's able to take a handful of photos and turn them into a perfect style that complements you like no one I've ever seen. I've literally been stopped on the street by women asking me where I get my hair done. They may not ask me where I get my brows done, but that's because they're so natural it's not obvious I've handed over control to a master. Go. You'll be glad you did. read more

I came to this salon three times. The first time I had a booking with Melissa for root color and cut. She did not manage to get exact match of my root color to the rest of the hair, but that was OK with me, as she was just getting a feel for how my hair behaves. The haircut was nice. I specifically asked her to record the formula so that she could reproduce it exactly the second time. Imagine my disappointment when the second root color with supposedly same formula was a noticeably different tone, adding a new band to the "zebra" pattern. The haircut was nice again. At this point I gave up on finding a hair stylist that could reliably reproduce the same color, and took hair coloring into my own hands. After some experimentation on small sections of roots I finally got the formula I wanted. Since I measure the color and developer out on a little jewelry scale, I can reproduce it exactly each time, so no more zebra pattern! I still need someone to cut my hair, so I came back to Melissa. That was a big mistake! This time haircut was the worst one I ever had, with one side of my hair longer than the other, to a point that I had to tie it up in a bun every day till I got time to go to another stylist to get it fixed. read more

I've been going to Vanity and getting my hair done by Catie for a while now, but since they just moved from Albion St. in Wakefield to the Greenwood Plaza in Wakefield, I thought I'd update my review to give the salon full credit where it's due :) I visited the new salon for a partial foil & trim last night. Per usual, Catie (the owner) was AMAZING and did exactly what I wanted, without me really having to say much. I usually give her full reign of what she wants to do, since everything she's ever done has been incredible. I mean, let's face it...she's fabulous. I've never had an issue with anything she's done, and she always makes sure we're on the same page before she does anything, so there's no panic once the color is washed out & the scissors are snipping (trust me, I've been to places where they color/cut/blowdry and I walk out the door feeling like a pomeranain). Prices make my wallet smile. Let's talk the new salon: GORGEOUS! Not that the previous salon on Albion St. wasn't a pure DELIGHT, but this new one is huge (big enough to do a cartwheel, possibly?), clean, bright, modern, and fabulous! Everything is brand new and sparkling. Catie and her team did an excellent job designing and pulling everything together. The girls who work there are hilarious and really make for a lovely experience. They're all super friendly (and talented) and I always enjoy laughing and talking with them while I'm there. What a great place! First time in, and I can tell you the decor is beautiful and the staff was helpful. (Wished their was a receptionist though, I did wait in the waiting room for 5 mins before being acknowledge) And my appointment was 15 mins late due to the client Allie was working on before me. Finally hopped in the chair, and showed allie exactly what I wanted. She went over the whole process and plan with me and constantly asked my thoughts and opinions before she cut again. She was soooo knowledgeable about everything!! From the cut, to the products to tips and tricks, Allie never ran out of an answer! The products they used were really nice! Not harsh or heavy! *Please Note that I had minimal work done on my hair* Going in here I was looking for a simple trim and layering of my 2 ft+ long hair. I've been growing it out for a few years now but needed to trim the ends and re-layer it. Melissa tended to me over the phone and in person. She asked simple questions about what I was looking to do with my hair. In both instances I felt like she listened to me very well and I was in and out of there very very quickly: got a shampoo/conditioning and the trimming i was looking for, 20 min or so and I was out of there. I didnt get anything more complicated than that (no styling); I went home and washed it up and did my usual routine with it, with a nice fresh cut :) This was my first time going to Vanity and I definitely think I will go back again, granted probably not for another few years. read more

First let me start out with, I am one of those people who believes hair is hair. It'll grow back, can be dyed, and is basically just another accessory to express yourself. That being said, I am very unhappy with my hair right now. I came to Vanity Hair because of all of the awesome reviews I read of Yelp. I just moved to the area and am looking for a close and reliable salon. When I walked in, I was welcomed with a luke warm hello, as if I was interrupting the 2 hair dressers and their clients. Its not like I was a walk in on a busy Saturday morning. I had called and made an appointment. I wasn't a surprise. When I was put in the chair, the woman doing my hair, unfortunately I forget her name, however I wouldn't write it in case she was just having an off day, was VERY helpful. She saw I was struggling to figure out exactly what color I wanted. I will say she did a great job at helping me decide. She was great at small talk, I'm pretty shy around new people, so I'm not much of a small talk girl and she caught on. In all, as far as being personable, she was exactly what I would hope for. When I was done getting my hair dyed a very dark brown, she styled my hair and I looked and felt amazing. Its that feeling you hope for after leaving a salon. When I got home I noticed a small part of hair that didn't take the color completely. I have had my hair colored enough to know that after the first wash, everything seems to even out, so I waited 2 days and washed my hair. Unfortunately for me, that small piece of hair turned into a large piece of hair, And I'm not talking about some natural looking highlights, I'm talking about a blotch near the top of my head the size of a dollar bill that is turning back to the blonde I was when I walked in to the salon. I have washed my hair twice in the week since going to the salon and I am at a loss. Normally when I get my hair died a dark color my hair is glossy and soft and completely colored. This time my hair feels dry, its breaking, and I have a really bad spot on my head along with some other blotchy areas that are only truly unnoticeable when my hair is pulled up. I would recommend this place for a well priced cut but I will not be back to get this fixed or for any other color treatments. read more

I followed her wherever she moved to, that's how happy I was with her work. Then she opened Vanity. Man, this shop is beautiful and homey. Completely professional and super friendly! Cassandra has fixed so many of my hair mistakes, whether it be from a sketchy salon who is capable of "layering" hair to thinking I can dye my own hair blonde (nope). Vanity is a cozy little salon in Wakefield. Everyone is super friendly and let's me eat their snacks and coffee, without giving me dirty looks, whenever I come in to get my hair snipped (which is about once a month). I've only had Hayley do my hair, but I've never been disappointed. Hayley really has the concept of a short haircut down. She knows how to cut it - subtly cause there's not a ton to work with - without over doing it and making it too severe. And she knows how to style it - not too much product but just enough to make it funky. I'm not sure I've ever been formally introduced to the other girls who work here but I was pleasantly surprised that they greeted me by name and with a smile when I came in for my most recent appointment. It's a little thing, but it makes you feel welcome. If you are looking for a friendly, affordable, salon in the area, you won't find a better fit. read more

Being a little hair stuck-up, I was at first skeptical to go to a salon that didn't charge the almost $200 for my full foil and cut. Lets just say I have been humbled!! My mother had been going to Vanity to see Cassandra for some time, when I decided to take the plunge and get bangs. I had always seen the lovely results of Cassandra's work on Mom's hair, so I felt confident in putting my very long hair in her talented hands. I was a wimp and teared up when the snipping was done, but I was utterly thrilled with the results (FYI, I cried because I had not had a haircut in over a decade and am absurdly attached to my hair, NOT because of anything Cassandra did!!). Nowadays, I go back once in a while to have my bangs cut back, and I go in about once a year or so to have Cassandra neaten up my ends. When I say "I have very long hair," I mean it- my hair is 60" long- and Cassandra takes excellent care to make sure that she only takes off a tiny bit and that I'm happy with what she does snip off. I never feel pressured to change my routine, product usage, or styling. I am never hustled into cutting off my long locks. I always feel very comfortable and confident at Vanity, and my hair always looks healthy and terrific when Cassandra is done with me. read more

I'm a first-time client and I'm so happy I trusted the other Yelp Reviews. Melissa cut my hair today and did a fabulous job. I walked in with choppy layers from my last haircut that I wanted to soften up without taking off too much length. My hair is long and I like to keep it that way. She let me explain exactly what I wanted and took a look at some pictures I brought with me. Because she knew I was nervous about taking off too much length, she made sure to show me how much she was cutting off before actually taking the scissors to my hair, which I really appreciated. She offered a blow dry and asked what kinds of products I preferred. Most stylists just use whatever they want, so that was really nice too. As she began to blow dry, I could see how perfect my layers looked. They were soft and long, which she explained to me during our consultation. (I was confused about long versus short layers) Melissa was very helpful, patient and sweet. I love my hair cut!! They also gave me 15% off for being a first-time client and for mentioning their Facebook page. I'll most definitely be going back every few months for my trims! read more

I came back to write a review on my experience at the Vanity Hair Salon in Greenwood. I had requested some recommendations a couple of weeks ago regarding where to go for a great cut and styling. Many people responded and fortunately for me some of those people raved about Catie Keene's Salon. Being that I live in walking distance of it and that Catie was very highly spoken of, I decided to go there and give it a try. My story in a nutshell is that I had been with the same stylist for 30 years but due to life's circumstances, I had to find someone else and this worried me. I became very anxiety filled. So I booked an appointment with Catie and WOW, I was thrilled with the results. She is very talented and such a NICE person..so amicable that I was sold on her totally! Her modern styled shop is immaculate. The products she uses and sells are great. Loved the mousse she used on me! This was such a pleasant salon experience that I cannot say enough. Just know that I am a very fussy customer and she welcomed me with open arms and an open mind. She did exactly what I hoped for and I couldn't have been any more pleased.
