It was a good place. This was a good hair salon. Every time I went there, I was happy. But my favorite stylist left. After that I tried other stylists and they were fine. And always very gracious. I never felt awkward going in. I always felt very comfortable.. The last time I went there. I was gushing about how much I liked it there. And I said I hope you guys never go away... They must have known they were closing, but they never said anything. I left there with my latest stylist's card... I had a weird feeling that they were talking or laughing about me behind my back. I cannot express enough how wonderful this studio is. So often I feel uncomfortable in a salon, or like I don't fit in. But the staff at Smooth could not be more welcoming. Stephanie has colored my hair twice now with amazing results. I feel so much more confident in my day to day life. The color stayed for quite a while. Even when it did fade with the sun, as to be expected, it faded in a way that made it look really neat. I also brought my 13 year old in before a big dance. I am blown away by how amazing and beautiful she looks, and she is still in jeans and a T-shirt!!! The makeup is age appropriate and not overdone and the hair is on point for her dress. I understand with COVID everything is a little different but the sign on the door says do not enter even with appointment you must wait in your car, I assumed they would call me when I should come in. I waited 20 minutes then I finally called them and they said I could have just walked in. When I finally did get in I got my hair trimmed, they prob took off about 1 inch of hair and it was $40. The price seemed a little high when I couldn't even tell I got a haircut. The girl was really nice but wish I could have seen the difference a little more or at all. read more

I had the usual "first-time" jitters when I walked into Smooth Hair Salon but my fears were quickly dispatched. Ritchie, at the reception desk, was quite warm and welcoming. Stephanie further put my mind at ease, asking me a lot about what I was looking for before getting started. I have hair almost down to my waist. I didn't get it cut for about 3 years because I never trusted anyone. When I went to this salon, Stephanie took great care of me and cut my hair a little bit every other month so I wouldn't freak out. My hair still has its length and even grew because she did such an amazing job. I did my prom hair and makeup there twice, also did an amazing job. I've been going to Steph at Smooth for a few years - I love her and her work. I have never been happier with my color and cut and I also have extensions. Not only am I always satisfied, its a quick and efficient appointment for the amount of work she does on me. Its the most relaxing 2 hours of my month and best money spent, which by the way, is completely reasonable. Everyone who works in the salon and friendly and the overall feel in the salon is laid back, even though the stylists my family goes to are complete perfectionists. I am new to the area and needed to find a new salon. Smooth is close to my house and has decent Yelp reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. Atmosphere: Wonderful! The salon is clean, well decorated and the owner offered me a (much needed) coffee upon arrival. Background on my hair: Curly, coarse, brittle, dry, and has been "Sally dyed" for a couple of years now. It was in desperate need of a trim and some warmth which can only be provided by a professional stylist. The last time I dyed my hair was January of this year. Stylist: Richie. Richie was super nice, informative and made me feel comfortable in the chair. We had a good consultation. He gave me beautiful bayalage color and talked me into a vital shot treatment which he gave me half off of since I was a new client. He also blow dried and curled my hair after which made me feel pretty. Outcome: My hair came out beautiful even though we didn't "lighten it up" as much as I had wanted. This was not 100% the stylist's fault- I have processed hair. I also received a trim but haven't seen exactly how that turned out since I haven't straightened my hair yet, but my hair definitely has more life and looks longer even though it's shorter which is always a plus. I was in the salon for over 3 hours but I knew that going in as I required a lot of maintenance. I never felt like I was being ignored and Richie was very accommodating. Complaints: I have two. 1) The pricing. Not that it was necessarily too expensive but more so that I wish I would have been taken through my $198 bill. The receipt outlines exactly what the services were and their costs but I really should have asked more questions. I have no problem paying for quality services but if I am spending $238.00 (with a 20% tip) I feel like that should be a discussion especially if I am not leaving with the results I went in looking to achieve. I will take partial responsibility for this- I should have asked more questions. I do feel like the salon should do a little something for first time clients just because that warms us up to a new place a bit more- trusting a new person with your hair is stressful. 2) I have a ring of brown dye framing my face. Completely unacceptable regardless of what salon you go to. I have to wash my freshly styled hair. Had I realized how much dye was on my face, I wouldn't have tipped 20%. Overall experience: I am giving this salon 3 of 5 stars but if I could give a 3.5, I would. In hindsight, I should have maybe chosen a different stylist since my hair is so difficult. This is not a hit on Richie- he is great and his before and after pictures are beautiful. It's just that someone doing hair for longer would better understand how much my help my bird's nest of a head needs. I left much better than when I came and will most likely be back to lighten up my bayalage in a month or two. read more

I saw Natasha while I lived in MA, and she was great! I moved to New Orleans and have been here for almost two years. One of the things I miss the most is my very talented hair stylist/genius/miracle worker. After three failed hair & color attempts in NOLA, I've decided that Natasha is the only one who can work with my hair! Going to a new salon, I'm always nervous. I made an appointment with my mother for an afternoon appointment. We walked in and were very impressed with the salon look. The stations had beautiful furniture and looked very professional. The shampoo/ conditioner area was comfortable and relaxing. My stylist was very personable and listened very well to what I wanted my hair to be like. She gave me an amazing haircut! I'm so glad I found this salon. I will recommend it to everyone I know. I would like to say Ive NEVER been treated so rudely or mean by a professional salon. I was constantly being scolded and talked down to by Natasha and Stephanie. I dont know how they think speaking to human beings this way is OK or acceptable. I had asked for a strand test ( which they charge 15.00 for) and they would not accommodate me . They told me they once gave me a test strand for a different type of service and they werent giving me another one. Because they refused to give me a test strand ,my roots are now gold ( see photos) . I have since after seeing there comment below about them not charging for test strands, called my credit card company and got an instantaneous refund . The charges have been reversed. They also state in there comment down below that my hair was completely damaged before the service. If that is true, if my hair was SO damaged, then why would they agree to perform a service involving leaving 40 volume bleach on my scalp for 3 hours? And why were there no waivers for me to sign? The truth being is because I had VIRGIN strong hair when I walked in there ( see photo below ) . No salon would preform a service if a client walked in with totally destroyed hair. Makes no sense. Also, they push products and services on you that you can buy yourself and do for free from the comfort of your own home .They even try pushing services outside the salon at other establishments that offer skin care , all so they can get referral bonuses . I saw some poor client getting persuaded to order hair clips from them that can be bought at Sallys . Hair clips are not a specialty item, no license is required to buy hair clips at Sallys. GRAND THEFT going on here. In terms of talent, you wont find it here. My hair is completely ruined. I had to cut it into a bob and I have gold roots from a toner they placed over my yellow hair from there inadequate bleach job . They left 40 volume bleach on my head for almost 3 hours!!!! and the only thing it did was dry out, break and damage my hair, it didnt actually lift it to the right color. I explained no client should have bleach on there head for 3 hours.They claim in there response below to this review that this is the norm ..... they take clients with dark hair and leave bleach on there head for 3 hours. Ummmmm the manufacturer's directions on the back of the Redkin Flashlift tub does not say to leave on clients head for 3 hours, it says 50 minutes,,,, but instead they put the blame on ME. They told me its all my fault and refunded my money and I now have to live with gold roots and platinum blonde ends. Unfortunately its not fixable. If you cherish your blonde hair and do not want to be berated and talked down to like a second class citizen............(and do not want 40 volume bleach on your head for 3 hours,),,,,,,,,,,, do NOT come here. My before and after photos are down below.The photo on left is my before photo....I had lots of dark virgin hair with blonde ends. The photo on right is my after photo I took leaving the salon. They were suppose to be giving me platinum blonde roots to match my ends, They told me something is wrong with my eyes, that this IS platinum blonde roots. Taylor did a nice job with my hair. She made my longer hair feel a lot lighter with a trim and layers. However I probably wouldn't have gone in if I knew it was going to be $43 for the haircut. This surprised me, but I should have checked before I went on their website or something. Was also not given the 25% discount for being a new customer. I get my hair cut and colored by Stephanie (the owner) and she does an amazing job! I went from being a curly haired brunette to a straight haired red head and have been extremely happy with the results. The other ladies who work at the salon are really friendly and it's a great environment with a great vibe, something you can't say about all salons. I have been going to this salon for a few years now with Natasha being my main hairstylist. I had blowouts from Ritchie and Stephanie and both are very gentle and do a great job. I really like how the staff is always receiving education on new products and ideas so they are always on top of the latest trends and upkeep. They are all very friendly and outgoing and if you have any questions they answer them not matter how many you have or how in depth the answer. Natasha does AMAZING work with color and bleach work. She is an overall excellent stylist that takes the time to listen to your ideas and will take the time to explain and guide you to your decision. I had black virgin hair that she cut into a bob it looked great. I then decided I wanted to look like Shakira and go very blonde. Natasha did a fabulous job and I've been blonde for almost 2 years and I LOVE IT . She is the only one I trust with my hair and everyone that I have sent to her has left very happy. Natasha can work with every type and texture it's dosent matter how impossible it might seem she is your go to girl. Before I found this salon I had a phobia of sitting in a hairdresser's chair. Ive tried them all around town and have never been satisfied, comfortable, and happy, until now. I go to Ashley (perfect little blonde girl who is absolutely gorgeous). She has done a number of things to my hair including dramatic cuts, perms, my prom hair, and coloring. She has also waxed a number of areas for me. My most recent request was to have a blue tint in my hair and now my hair glistens a subtle, beautiful royal blue but its not obnoxious. Every time I need something done whether its just an idea in my head or i bring in a picture that I want to resemble, she does exactly what i want after she tells me (honestly) if it will look good and frame my face well or if she thinks something else along the line of what i want will look better. I even had no idea what I wanted for my prom hair so i let her do whatever she wanted and I walked out of there absolutely thrilled because it looked so beautiful. She always LISTENS to what you want and does EXACTLY what you expect it to look like, and it always comes out even better than you imagine. Her work is unbelievable! I can finally go into a salon with no fear of not falling in love with my hair when I walk out. Great prices, and she always makes an effort to schedule me at a convenient time. I love her!!!! I've also gotten my makeup done there by their makeup artists who does a beautiful job!! I was in desperate need of a makeover, and Supercuts just wasn't "cutting it" anymore. On a whim, I walked in to Smooth Hair Studio on Route 38 in Tewksbury. I lucked out as Richie had had a cancellation on a Saturday, and he was able to take me right away! I told him I was sick of the same old boring cut, and he asked me questions about what a normal week is like for me, how much time I have to get ready in the morning, and how drastic of a change I was looking for. I answered his questions, and told him I felt like I had known him for years, and I trusted him. I was literally putting myself in his hands. I am so glad I did, I got the best haircut of my life. And even better, I feel like I made a new best friend. :) I am now making ongoing 8 week appointments with him, and I can't wait to go back. I have never had so many compliments from a haircut, he is a master of his craft. The salon is precious, you feel like you are in Boston or a nice spa, and everything is 5 star treatment, all the way! Prices are very reasonable, I was pleasantly surprised. I asked him for some business cards which I am handing out to all of my local friends. I have a friend in New Hampshire who loved my haircut so much that she made an appt for next week! read more
