However they charged us a 23% gratuity (for a table of 3) that we didn't know about until we got our very expensive bill. The service was good but nothing out of this world- when restaurants tip themselves at all, let alone 23%, it leaves a bad taste. Likely wouldn't go back because of that. A wonderful restaurant that seems to be way less popular than it deserves! We had an amazing anniversary dinner here. The staff was so kind and the food was fantastic. I came here for a Timeleft dinner and had an amazing time. Service was great, and the inside is small and cozy with an exposed kitchen. The real star of the show was the food. There genuinely wasn't a dish I tried that I didn't like. The carrots and eggplant were my favorite appetizers, and the gnocchi is a must (especially if you're vegetarian). We ended the meal with tiramisu and cake (the tiramisu being my fave). I definitely would love to come back! read more

The food here is very mediocre and overpriced. We paid $40+ for "italian fried chicken" that wasn't seasoned well and was overcooked. Even Ezels or KFC tastes better than this. We also had some pasta which was cooked to perfection (al dente) but was overly salty. And on top of food being overpriced, they charge an additional 22% for "service". I don't know why it is customer's responsibility and not employer's to pay their staff a living wage. In fairness, they do advertise charging 22% for service. But if the food is this mediocre then it hurts to pay additional 22% for bad food. Do not recommend this restaurant at all. read more

I had an unexpected dinner here this past Sunday (6/9/2024) and left quite happy and reconnected with friends I have not seen in quite some time! The story begins a day earlier, on Saturday morning, when Yelp suggestions alerted me to Haerfest as a new & popular restaurant. I had some time to kill so I started reading the reviews and they were all complimentary, effusive even. It's hard to get that level of unanimous compliments for a restaurant so of course I was intrigued. I bookmarked it for a later meal. Little did I know that my time would come SOON! The next day, Sunday, I had planned to visit a dear friend, Ms España, who I haven't seen in a while. She has had recent mobility challenges with her chronic condition, and I said I would bring dinner along. Almost right after I finished reading the Haerfest reviews, she sent a text asking if I would mind going out instead, as her doctor and her mental state needed to re-engage and get out of her isolation. I was thrilled and knew just the place as it was not far from her condo in Greenlake. I picked her up, and her hubby (Mr President) met us at the restaurant directly from a personal appointment. My sister, who lives only a few blocks away, ended up joining us after putting her little (cute) monsters to bed. When we walked in for our reservation, the hostess started walking us to our table bypassing all the empty 4-tops in the airy, open dining room and instead leading us down a hallway past the bathrooms. I was a little worried about where this was going but, like a lamb to slaughter, I followed her. She led us to a beautiful but simple and elegantly decorated Private Dining Room (PDR), which felt quite fancy for our non-special occasion meal. It was lovely! I knew right away that I wanted the bread service ($13) with my drink after seeing the incredible professional looking pictures posted by other Yelpers! Bread is my weakness. I ordered a glass of sparkling rose ($15; Tirridis, Washington State) to go with said bread service. It came out with servings of 3 different types of bread, housemade (focaccia, brioche, and sourdough) and a ramekin of big pieces of a delicious honey butter. While I was too busy eyeing & photographing the breadaganza, I think she said something along the lines of in-house honeycombs but I'm not sure. Ms España ordered a glass of red Botonero Nebbiolo ($16; Italy), and Mr President did a glass of red blend Lorelle ($13; Washington State) STARTER(S): After getting our drinks, and munching on the warm & yummy bread, we settled into perusing the menu and making some decisions. I was intrigued by the half dozen oysters, which Mr President was happy to share with me-- thank god, as I didn't ask what the MP was, and it turned out to be $29! (Hello Seattle inflation, yikes!) MAINS: At this point we were figuring out how to proceed and ended up deciding to each order a different pasta and do family style. Ms España is a pescatarian and was undecided between the two vegetarian pasta choices -- ricotta gnocchi ($26; pesto, pine nuts, arugula) & campanelle ($29; morel mushrooms, sweet corn, pea vines, mint) so I ordered the second one so we could all try both. Mr President opted for the Tonnarelli ($28; beef bolognese, sage, parmesan). Sister arrived after we placed our orders but before the food arrived and was able to try a little of each as well. Her drink of choice was the Garden Party cocktail ($16; gin, maraschino liqueur, lime, basil, cucumber, rose water, soda) which she enjoyed enough to order a second. Mine & Ms España's second drink were the same as her first, the nebbiolo. There was plenty of food and we took home leftovers that were delicious the next day! It was a hard to pick a favorite but I think it was the campanelle for me- what could go wrong with mushrooms and a creamy white sauce?? This was the kind of place where I could easily see myself returning to try some of the other things on the menu, it was very difficult to decide since everything sounded amazing (and I'm sure WAS!) DESSERT: I couldn't leave without trying dessert, there were only 3 on the menu so I chose the Tiramisu since everyone left the decision up to me. One pull-me-up & 4 spoons please! Light, spongy, not too sweet -- it was perfection! SERVICE: Miles was excellent- friendly, joking, but sensing that we had a lot to catch up on and the conversation was flowing. I sensed him peeking in from time to time to look but unless he saw that we were missing something, didn't interrupt us which I appreciated. This brings me to my only warning of the night - a 4% mandatory surcharge on the bill, and NOT towards gratuity. Now I am ALL for livable wages but I'm not sure why it can't be absorbed in the menu costs. I'd love for restaurants to make bill paying amongst friends just a little easier instead of having to do this much math at the end of a lovely night where I was enjoying the gentle buzz of my 2 glasses of vino! read more

Was so welcoming and attentive, we were celebrating my husbands birthday and she made our experience even more special! She made a delicious mocktail to celebrate his birthday and it was so sweet! Newer restaurant that seems to be in the same class as Ethan Stowell places like Tavolata and Red Cow. Doing a solid job of delivering at the same level as Tavolata (the Stone Way location is just a block or two down the street) without really standing out in any way. One improvement over Tavolata - to continue the comparison - is that Haerfest isn't playing background music at foreground level, which is better for conversation and less sensory overload. The wait staff were competent, not teenagers, and the food prepared with care. Though not a stand out, I'd return here and give it another try. read more

This latest restaurant from Brian Clevenger is awesome. I love Autumn, but Haerfest is a sexier, more sophisticated version. The space is just beautiful with high ceilings, a central, open kitchen, and ambience to spare. The food was even more delicious than usual. My husband and I had the butter lettuces and snap peas to start. The salad was cool and refreshing while the snap peas (which were sautéed with pea vines) were warm and savory yet still crisp-tender. Next up were the pasta dishes - paccheri with prawns and cavatelli with pork jowl. The cavatelli sauce was slight spicy which worked well with the pork, but the prawn paccheri was the star of the night! Perfectly cooked pasta with tender prawns in a silky sauce? Yes, please! Our last savory course was the black cod with creamed nettles. The first thing I noticed was the impeccably crisp skin, then I dug down into the incredibly moist flesh. I don't know how it's possible to have these two things coexist on the same piece of fish. Wouldn't the moisture of the flesh soften the skin? Seems like the fish was more moist on this plate than it ever was swimming around in the ocean. Wonders do still exist. Our final dish of the night was the chocolate mousse cake. It was the perfect ending to a stellar meal. As for service, we were spoiled by our waiter, Miles, and the bartender who wasn't supposed to be bartending tonight. Didn't seem like it was a stretch for the dude, because our drinks (Basil Cooler and Toucan Sam Ross) were spot on. This dapper fellow (who resembled a younger Gary Oldman) was kind enough to offer us some complimentary Amaro to go with our chocolate cake. It was an unexpectedly great pairing! I may have to drink Amaro every time I have chocolate cake now. My only regret tonight was not taking more photos. I'll rectify that the next time we come back which will be very soon! read more

The honey butter that comes with their bread service should be illegal, and the beef tartare with chives and shallot had me plotting my next visit before I'd even finished the first bite. Porchetta came through with the same energy, and even their seasonal squash had me reconsidering my relationship with vegetables. So delicious! We decided to try out Haerfest expecting this new restaurant to still be working out some kinks, but they are on fire and ready for it! My husband and I agreed this was one of the best meals we've had in Seattle. Don't wait - go! We shared the Paccheri and Campanelle pasta dishes - both were absolutely delightful and perfectly paired. We then we split the Black Cod, which was expertly prepared en papillote with clams and prawns in gorgeous seafood stock sauce and just melted in my mouth. We also really enjoyed our cocktails. It all started with a photo. A beautiful picture of pasta led to my husband to suggest Haerfest for dinner. This lovely low key restaurant is putting out some beautiful food. Not only is it presented beautifully but the menu is creative and the portions are sufficient. Many of my past experiences with pretty food has led to wanting a burger on the way home. Not here! The service is friendly and attentive. Our server checked on us regularly but not too much. The General Manager stopped by to welcome us and engaged us in a brief conversation making us want to return for the service alone. I highly recommend this restaurant and looking forward to returning as the menu changes seasonally. read more
