I'm giving this place four stars because I'm rating as a divey joint. Compared to a nice place, it would pale. For a small town grill it was pretty good. We went on a Sunday, when they serve breakfast all day. Decor is outdated, but it was renovated so it's in good shape. Also nice and clean. All the servers were very friendly. Our drinks stayed full and they all had smiles on. The food was tasty, but each of us had omelets so I can't tell you how lunch items taste. Hash browns were hot, eggs were fluffy. The chilies in my omelet certainly came from a can, but my whole plate was so cheap, I didn't care. The surprisingly awesome part? Hot chocolate! It was rich and thick with a pile of whipped cream. Yum! Our food came out super quick too and the place was 2/3 full. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you're looking for inexpensive, normal, tasty food and service with a smile. read more

The first time I pulled into the parking lot, my first thought was "this isn't going to be good". The parking lot is sketchy & it's an old establishment. I see another reviewer called it a "hole in the wall" & that's what I thought, too. Boy am I glad I didn't let the looks of the place deter me from trying it -- cuz it is definitely good. It's consistently good. I've been here a few times now after hiking in the Superstitions. Everything I've eaten has been wonderful. The staff is friendly, the service quick. Old and plain from the outside, but a packed parking lot on a weekday late lunch hour made us stop in. Large menu of standard items and a few surprises, especially on the specials board. Two of us ordered something with grilled chicken breast and found it remarkably tender juicy. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Interesting place. Small, cramped and busy, but in a good way. Exactly like you'd expect in a small town diner. Staff is friendly and all interact. They seem to know the names of regulars like Cheers. Food portions are a little on the small side but priced very low, a great deal. Given their generally older patrons, the size is good, get an extra side if you're the hungry type and it's still cheaper than Denny's. Much better tasting. Cute place. Crowded and noisy but its a local cafe which is to be expected. Quick service for food and drink but.................. I ordered the Patty Melt and was served with burned toasted rye bread and close to raw burger. The fries were cold as well. The staff was very friendly but I'm surprised I was served this sandwich in this manner as the wait staff has the ultimate decision to serve or not. read more

Well this was my 2 Nd time in and I won't be going back. They seated us right away and asked if we needed menus which is odd in my opinion. Then we waited for over 10 min for her to take our order and they weren't even that busy. Then I got up and tracked her down and she was just hanging out back with another employee. I said we are ready to order please and she said " we go in order". So we paid for the coke that my son didn't drink and left. On the way out she said sorry and kept on moving. A local breakfast and lunch spot close to home. Nothing special as far as decor or atmosphere but service is top notch and breakfast fare is down home good cooking! Everything we've ordered has been delicious! Wait staff is very attentive and food comes out quick and hot. Has never disappointed us. Hubby gets his ham, green pepper and cheese omelette with hash browns and choice of toast. Sometimes he asks to sub pancakes for the toast which they are happy to oblige. He switches it up sometimes and gets the pancakes, or french toast with 2 eggs, choice of meat and choice of home fries or hash browns. Pancakes are big and fluffy(2),french toast is nice thick pieces (4 halves), hash browns brown and crispy on one side and moist on other. They always toast there toast well, none of that sick pale pieces of toast. Bacon is crisp chewy, just perfect. Good quality breakfast sausage. I've had biscuits and gravy which was good but I've personally had better. I've also had huevos rancheros, good but I like it better at another establishment. Just had corned beef hash (cooked to perfection to crispy brown side and moist underneath) with over medium eggs (done perfectly) their yummy hash browns and English muffin with strawberry jelly. This has to be the worst uncomfortable place i have eaten in years. We wait for 10 min to be seated witch is ok... if we didnt have to wait outside in the heat no cover or shade. Once we get inside the long hair hippy with no teeth is telling us what we want to drink instead of asking as he is pushing the table closer to me an lil man saying he looks like he spills alot. I was in such shock i didnt know what yo do but look at him he said what would u want i said coke pls, he rolled his eyes and said ooook. And walked off. As he came back he kept telling the kids about his special drinks he can make and they must try as he leaned over the table getting in their faces. After a while i got frustrated and wanted to leave. Gf talked me down so i stayed and watched. The dirty vents was a sign like the floor to not eat but watch. Waitress girl finally came took our order and could see i wasnt happy so was nice as possible. We get the food quick and eat once done kids are on their phones waiting for bill. The long hair hippy comes back and looks at the 11 year old girl at the end of the table and gets in her face and says what are you watching let me see and takes her phone. I say ok lets pay our bill and go im done with this RUDE NO RESPECT having establishment. If it wasnt for the regulars or elderly they wouldnt be open. A true health inspection comes they will be shutt down. Worst part is we have been hoke now for 30 min and every bathroom is full and got 2 adults with stomach Nausea. Do not eat or visit this place. My sister offered to take me to breakfast or lunch for helping her. I checked Yelp and found Hacker's Grill near sister's home. This was such a great find! I had chicken fried steak and my sister ordered crepes along with sausage and gravy...menu offer smaller servings which we chose. The servings were bigger than typical regular serving sizes at other similar restaurants. We both ordered ice tea which was very good (I am very picky about my ice tea) and the waitress brought us fresh ice tea in to-go cups without us even asking! We were both more than satisfied with the great service, friendly staff and tasty large serving food...we will be back again (actually my sister has already returned with her husband , daughter and son-in-law). read more

First time going to this place, I walk in and no one greets or says anything, so I just stand there expecting a host to approach me but nothing. Someone else comes in after me and walks right past me and signs their name on a clipboard. So I go to sign my name as well. We wait about 15 min to get seated which was fine with me because it's a Saturday morning. Once we are seated we start looking at the menu and 20 minutes pass and NO ONE COMES to take our order. So I love the food here. Best bang for your buck. Attentive service but I gotta say. What in the hell are they running here? I've been here 4-5 times and every time it looks like they have 4 busses/server hands and one poor gal running around taking orders. It's chaos. When you're waiting to have your order taken but you have 3-4 different people asking if you only want water, or something else and I'm just simply wanting my order taken, it's a little annoying. It's turn and burn. I get it. I work as a waitress too. But somethings gotta change. One more server or someone else taking orders? Get another computer to take orders? Maybe assigned servers to certain tables. You can still pool tips with sections. It would run so much better. Poor girl taking the orders looks stressed because she's trying to make everyone happy but one person vs 50+ customers doesn't flow without fail. Just consider changing things up a bit. read more

I had never worked in food service before and let me tell you what this was not the place to learn. The turn over rate mentioned in one of the other reviews is likely because Kim the OCD manager wants everything done the way she would do it and if you do it even a hair different she flips out I think I was the girl that got fired for doing the dishes to loudly but I will never know because I came back to work after my day off and the other waitress met me in the lot with my pay and said " you need to leave it is not going to work" What!! What did I do wrong One day I got my tips docked because Kim said a few customers left without refills on their drinks O yes if you do chose to eat at this nasty place please take the stupid foam refill cup with you. She flipped out! Do know by eating at this place you are supporting labor law violations this place is open for 8 hours a shift is open to close and for a server working here you do not get a break or any thing at the end of your shift you are forced to have the cook make something for you to eat or take home that is their way of justifying having you work non stop for 8 hours don't try to use the bathroom you will get yelled at at the end of the day. O ya and all you people that do eat here watch your tips they are all pooled into a pot and after the house takes a generous cut the others get what is left. Overview: I've been to this place three times. The first two trips were merely ok-ish, but I like supporting these sort of local joints and I wanted to give the place a fair shot. The third trip sealed the deal -- I will never visit Hacker's again. Decor: The layout of the place is cool. I like that there isn't any pretense with respect to the decor. Each table has their own roll of paper towels and a large tub of coffee creamers. The place looks a little junky but is pretty on par with other small dive restaurants. Food: Here's where it all falls apart. The scrambled eggs were undercooked and cold. They were running over the plate in a yellowish slime. The bacon was like beggin strips. I swear. Horrible. The bacon strips were rolled up into dried out balls and wads. It appears that they deep fry their bacon in vat or something rather than on a hot surface. My bacon had the consistency of bacon that had sat for hours after overcooking the bejesus out of it. I literally would not be able to tell the difference between their bacon and the fake crap I feed my dog. The french toast was completely amateur. It's like the french toast your 10 year cousin would make. I wish I describe the fail better, but just know it was freaking gross. The most inexcusable item was the hash browns. Like the rest of the food, it appeared to have sat out for hours. The top portion had a consistency more of plastic than food, and was brittle, coarse, and free of moisture. The inside portion had a consistency not unlike shoe laces. My girlfriend and I left full plates, having only tried a few bites of each item. I was worried that if I ate any more I would get sick, and even with the meager amounts that I did eat, I had stomach pains for about 6 hours. This place a little dive breakfast spot with a golf nick knack theme. There's golf stuff everywhere, golf clubs on the walls, golf clubs and tees as light fixtures, golf pictures. It's definitely a dive but they serve a pretty darn good breakfast. Not to mention, it is SO CHEAP! There's nothing over $6 on the menu. I got 4 slices of french toast, 2 eggs, hash browns, and sausage for $5.50. I mean, $5.50?!?!?!?! You can't even go to McDonalds and get some crappy breakfast for $5.50! Not to mention, the food is good. There's usually a wait on the weekends, especially in the winter months because it's a winter-visitor haven. On any given weekend you generally can count about 30 smiley blue hairs. It's tucked away behind an old-time Western strip mall and can be hard to find, as you can't see it from Apache Trail. But if you can find The Good Apple Natural food store, it's right next door. If you're ever out east during breakfast time, it's definitely worth checking out. read more

The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was laid back and casual and most importantly the food was great.
