My parents just moved to this area of AZ and we are kind of a breakfast family. Decided to try this place out with my dad. The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was laid back and casual and most importantly the food was great. My dad and I both got coffees and the Saturday Special: chicken fried steak, 2 eggs, choice of potaotes or fruit, and toast for only $6.95. We got out of here for under $20 plus the tip. Food was definitely worth it, glad it's so close to my parents new house, this will definitely be a new spot for us. read more

We always get great service from the staff ! They're friendly , always refill drinks, and extremely accommodating when you want to substitute even on their specials . Lunch specials (Mon-Fri) include your beverage. Covid safe: They seat people in every other booth and no condiments are sitting on the tables (unlike their competition in Apache Junction). I found this place through family and friends. I really like it, as the food is very tasty, the place is relatively clean, and there's parking most of the time, albeit in a parking lot filled with potholes. They're quick to bring water, and timely in delivering the food. I'd give it five stars, but unfortunately, although the staff is very efficient, they're not very personable. It's really difficult to engage them in any small talk, or even get them to make direct eye contact. Some degree of hospitality when you dine out would be nice. If that wasn't the case, you might as well cook for yourself, eat at home, and save some money. Overall, I'm pleased with this establishment. read more

I worked for Hackers for about 3 months. In that time I worked 5 days a week while going to school full time. One word.. AWFUL! Why? 1. There are live and dead cockroaches in the kitchen where food storage is kept 2. There are mice in the kitchen running about 3. Kim the OCD manager will treat you like a piece of trash if you breath wrong in front of her 4. One girl came in to work not knowing that Kim randomly took her off the schedule because she "was too slow" and told her leave. She had a kid to support 5. She allows her employees to work drunk 6. They force you to either eat their food or take it home because you NEVER get a break in a 9+hour day and it's "disrespectful" if you don't. I took it home and threw it away 7. They used expired food products 8. They reuse dirty dishes instead of properly cleaning items while there is a "rush" 9. You will get yelled at if you use the bathroom during your shift 10. You are not allowed to talk to customers because then you're "too slow" 11. They don't greet people or keep a waitress in a section. Everyone runs around with their head cut off to only get yelled at the end of the day because you get bad reviews for poor service 12. Kim ignored my calls at the start of the pandemic because she had to let us go so one day I wasn't on the schedule while I have my daughter to provide for when I was one of the few employees that actually showed up and did their job the right way. This place is great! From service to food. The nice woman on the phone was very accommodating to our low carb diet even offering other food in place of potatoes and toast. The young lady delivering our food to our car was also very friendly. Great customer service! We had omelets and they were big, delicious and very filling. I highly recommend this place. read more

The food is awesome and its cheap. That's the good news. Now the bad news. This place is a filthy mess full of flies. There is only one waiter, Kim, the owner and her temperment toward her employees is unacceptable. The floors are nasty, the coffee pots look like they've never been cleaned, the bathrooms are discusting, the windows are dirty, and I don't even want to see the kitchen. I'm not going back until the place is under new ownership, uh well no I'm not going to do that. I'm just going to file a complaint with the health department. Update The owners must have gotten the message. They've remodeled and cleaned the place up. The food is still good and it's not so bad going in there again. read more

This place is a real sleeper! We've eaten here several times recently and it's always consistent. The service is great, the food is good, the serving size is more than we should eat, the preparation is great (not a greasy spoon), and the prices are quite reasonable. The only challenge is being able to get in because it's so popular with locals. Years ago, this place WAS a greasy spoon, but I think it was sold to employees and this has turned into a place you can count on for good quality food and reasonable prices. There aren't many good breakfast options in Apache Junction but Hackers is alright. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food isn't terrible but it can be hit or miss. Today I ordered the #13 which is eggs, potatoes of your choice, half order and biscuits and gravy, and sausage or bacon. The sausage gravy has little to no sausage with little taste to it. The sausage party was a bit overdone and a little cold. The hash browns were ok. The scrambled eggs were on the skillet too long leaving brown on the eggs and caused the eggs to taste a little burnt and they were not fluffy. I have eaten there when the food has been much better. Like I said though, not a terrible place but could use some improvements on food quality. read more

This is definitely an off the beaten path small town diner ! It's packed during the winter with snowbirds. Came in at 10am on a Friday and it was packed. We live in AJ and had been going out to Gold Canyon for breakfast on Sunday mornings. Well, let me say that won't be happening again. We had our coffee and tea within a blink of sitting down. Order was taken and wonderful food arrived quickly, with a smile and refill on breakfast beverages. The food was awesome, very generous portion. I'm a good eater and had to get a to go box for about 1/3 of my western omelet (which was SO good), some of the home fries with sautéed green peppers and onions....YUM. If the burgers are as good as the breakfast...and I am betting they are, I may take up residence on one of the outdoor tables. Rock on, Hackers Grill and thank you!! We had heard great things about their breakfast and the prices being very inexpensive we were not let down at all there was a little bit of a wait but that was fine and just told me that it was obviously worth waiting for the prices were very inexpensive for the large amounts of food that were served this is your classic American Kathy diner experience it's not fancy or spruced up of by any means inside they don't wear a fancy uniforms but they're extremely friendly and the experience was nice the staff was very friendly and attentive and even brought us to go drinks without even asking which was a nice little touch I will definitely be back and I highly suggest the chicken fried steak breakfast read more

I think this place needed a redo in the 50's... Filled with locals, this little dirty hole in the wall was packed. Foods cheap and we split a club house sandwich served on a hoagy roll, interesting concept. The bacon was two tiny crumbles.. thats the best part of the sandwich.. Are you listening owners??!!! Fries were good, staff is friendly, but I didn't take the foam cup of ice tea.. Does this mean OCD manager will fire his butt? If the previous review is correct, staff turnover is costly. Is that why the interior is in such shambles? I love a dive spot and I'm not a snob, but really. I was scared to eat the food. the busser was new and looked scared.. Now I know why. Well..... I won't go into gory details but let me just say I finally had a "personal" experience with the madness that I have been overlooking because I myself was always treated well here. Let me just say that the ever-changing staff here indicates the real problem with Hacker's. Even in a field like food service that historically is known for quick turn-over, Hacker's stands out of the crowd. If you eat here and have a good experience with a competent server, 'ya better get to know them fast because chances are, they won't be here long. I have a feeling that "Debra R's" recent review as an ex-employee was far more accurate than I wanted to believe. I have gone from a regular to someone who won't ever return here until I see a "Under New Ownership" sign out front. I feel as I have lost an old friend and I will miss the nice folks that I have become accustomed to seeing here over the past couple of years. Hello my fellow Phoenicians and snow birds! It's time for another truthful review... I should start by saying I am not a disgruntled employee just you're average joe on the way to a day trip in the Superstitions. I did read some scary reviews but since there seems to be only one "hole in the wall" diner in the area we took our chances and here it is in one word.. YUK! There was one server and she ran her butt off , although I only saw her once I felt sorry for her as the place was filled. The busboys hauled ass cleaning tables, delivering food and everything else so Good Job to all of you! We got there just past 11 and was told we could no longer get breakfast yet 3 tables around us ordered breakfast so we did too. We ordered eggs basted but I really knew better... Not everyone knows how to cook them and corned beef hash which I ordered WELL done. Of course the top was cooked well and middle not at all so I asked if they could put it back on the grill to cook it more.. As they walked away we heard one guy tell the other to put it in the microwave! Lol When I got it back.... Well, do I really need to tell you? The food was hot but not cooked and the based eggs were literally rubberized... The yolk was hard not runny as a basted egg should be. One of the guys came back and I told him the eggs weren't basted he insisted the were.. I picked the eggs up by the white and it dangled there looking like they were Rubber! I ate the cooked top part of the hash and half piece of toast and my husband ate his bacon and part of the pancake , we asked for our check and told him how disappointed we were and all he did was apologize ... I told him he should be offering to comp the un eaten meal .. He gave me a funny look and took back the check and said it would come out of his paycheck! I said absolutely not and told him i would pay and he shouldn't take the loss because the cook doesn't know how to cook! I left a most generous tip and we Left... We noticed the help wanted sign for server and cook and I do hope they find people quick.... Especially someone who calls themselves a cook and actually knows what a freaking basted egg is! I feel sorry for all the snowbirds who flocked this diner that this is there only choice for food in town and even sorrier they somehow developed a taste for this crud on a plate! The only reason I was generous and gave 2 stars is because I felt sorry for the hard working staff! So there it is, plain and true! Try it if you want.... But don't say you weren't warned! Funny how some people are impossible to please. This "hole in the wall " is packed from 6 AM till 11 AM with regular customer & first timers looking for an inexpensive well prepared breakfast. It is not unusual for the waiting line to extend through the front doors and out into the parking lot. So for those of you that rate this as "A-OK or less", we regulars would be please if you take it on down the road. Just means that we get in a little bit earlier. This place has been around for ages, and has always been popular amongst the locals. You can't even get even get a seat during snowbird season, as its become such a hot spot. The food is decent, and over time the place has become very well established within the AJ community. So why the low review? It's as well-known for the beat up interior as it is for the food. Despite years of great business, the owner flat-out refuses to put any money back into it, so the place is in shambles. Parking an atrocious uneven dirt lot, the building looks like it's condemned, and the inside is just falling apart. It's been that way as long as I can remember, and each time I go back, I'm amazed at the continual decline. The food is decent, but the staff are disinterested, and it looks like a total dump. If they ever decide to take a little pride and put some work into the place, I'll be the first to change this to a glowing 5 star review. I'd love to see the owner step up and mke use of their enormous potential. read more

Hacker's is a staple little food joint in a small town. The restaurant is small and full of locals that know the servers very well. The menu is small but sufficient. Chicken noodle soup is pretty good. Cajun chicken sandwich is satisfying. Prices are cheap. If you need a quick bite in Apache Junction, Hacker's is a safe way to go. read more

My daughter and I went to Hackers for the first time. When we pulled up we noticed it was PACKED!! Thinking that's a good sign! We were seated promptly along with our order. So the service was good, but where we had our issue was the way our hamburger was cooked. We ordered the Blue Cheese Burger. We were not asked how we wanted it cooked. When we cut into it, all we seen was "PINK". That was not cooked enough for us. Long story short, make sure you stress how you want hamburger cooked. read more

We travel to this area every winter and often have breakfast and sometimes lunch. This is a bit difficult to find. It sits in the back of an old strip center. Okay, this is a local's secret. Tucked away off the beaten track. It's not pretty from the outside. The inside is okay! It was recently remodeled so it is much better then it used to be. People flock here because the food is great! The service is pretty good as well. The staff is running when it's busy, which is pretty much all day everyday.
