We loveeee habernos, so much that we go almost every Friday! Food is always amazing and service is always quick! The fried Oreos are a must try! If you're looking for a great healthier option- I always order shredded chicken on lettuce wraps and it is so good!

Went with a group, the place is very modern, so I was instantly pulled in because it's always a treat to go somewhere that seems newly renovated. Personally, everything was just alright for me. I'm not the biggest Mexican food person so I got the classic tacos with a side of fries. For me the tacos were just alright, but the fries were really good. To try to lighten the mood of the table I suggested a dessert and they had something called Raspberry Burritos which were very intriguing, the server has a hard time explaining what it really was. When they came out I noticed that they are in actuality, sopapilla with a creme filling and have raspberry drizzle, along with a side of ice cream. In the end, I just found the food to be ok, I really came more for the people.

If you live on the South shore of Lake Pontchartrain, Habanero's is little off the beaten path. However, it's definitely worth the ride. I had my first and only visit (so far) on Sunday 20 MAR 2022; but it definitely won't be my last visit. It was my nephew's birthday and this was where he wanted to eat. The place is easy to spot as you head down LA-22, as there's a big skull on the exterior façade. The building is in very good shape, is aesthetically pleasing from the outside and has a decent amount of parking in their attached lot. The inside was surprisingly nice and the bar was the focal point of the restaurant. But don't let that cool bar fool you, as this place is definitely all about the food. The chips and salsa were immediately an indicator that the food was going to be good to go. There's no way these chips were store bought, as they tasted freshly made. I was a little nervous when our server began to take our orders, as we were a party of 10 and he didn't write a single order down. Based on the recommendation of my nephew, I got the the Apache tacos, which are listed on the menu as signature tacos, and comes with 2 sides. These skirt steak tacos are loaded with more meat than I've EVER seen on a taco and are served in a purple hard corn shell, but you can opt for a lettuce wrap or flour tortilla upon request. Unless you are watching what you eat, go purple or go home, as these taco shells rocked. They are topped with Oaxaca cheese and nopales (cactus). Don't let the nopales scare you, as they add a wonderful, subtle taste. The tacos were some of the best I've ever had, but they were a little too salty. Great flavor, but the salt was just a little too pronounced. The signature tacos come with 2 sides and I got the guacamole salad, which was uneventful, and a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. The soup was fantastic, as it was seasoned well and loaded with chicken. As was my concern, three of our orders were "slightly wrong". The entrees were correct, but some of our side orders were wrong. Unless you have a photographic memory, I'd recommend writing orders down, especially for large parties such as ours. Overall, this was a great experience, and I'd recommend it to anyone, as it was definitely surprisingly delicious. I wish they'd go a little easier on the salt. Take a look at their online menu. I guarantee the photos alone will make you want to go there.

The new decor is picture perfect! The waiters seem flustered as the place is small with many tables and little room to walk. The drinks were decent and the food was hot. The birria was also lacking birria, I received the smallest cup of Burris I ever seen, no way you were dipping that taco. I won't be back but pretty decent food just needs a lot more flavor for my taste buds.

This location is the worst. We frequent other locations but the food here is served missing items that are on the menu and served without up charge at other locations. This time we ordered a drink (old fashioned with mezcal) which is listed as $14 on the menu and what I always drink when we go to Habs. We opted for a different brand mezcal. (Which we always do) We even talk to the manager about mezcal for a few minutes as he mentioned we taught him some things. At no point were we aware that the price of their drinks doubled. (And the. Some) The bill came and we were charged $32 per drink. The manager did not seem to care that we were regulars and normally charged $19.50 for each drink which is an up charge for the brand mezcal we drink. We normally go once or twice per week and the bill is normally twice as much as this time. if you choose to go to Habernero, please avoid the 21 location. We spoke with the manager (new) and made him aware that we've never paid this for a drink and were regulars. He insisted that we pay the bill and there was nothing he was going to do. I let him know it would be the last hundred they ever get from me! $16 per shot for a $40 bottle of mezcal is a bit much. read more

Habanero's is a MUST go to establishment!! The food comes out quick, it's delicious, and there is a variety to choose from. Oscat is so personable and pays attention to every detail. It's obvious he takes pride in creating an enjoyable experience for everyone. My son always enjoys seeing him. Really horrible. Had the prestige tacos... tortillas came out hard as rocks. Could barely chew them along with the 3 small chunks of steak that came on the tacos. Chicken tortilla soup tasted like chicken broth out of a box. No flavor at all! Would not recommend. The interior is cute and that's the only thing that's good. read more

We came to eat here yesterday 6-5-2021 and I must say it was quite the pleasant experience. We were welcomed and it was busy, so we decided to sit outside and eat. Our waitress was Andrea. She was the most polite, courteous and outstanding waitress we've had in a long time. She always made sure we were ok and knew her menu back and forth. The staff was also excellent and took care of us from beginning to end. Thank you all again, especially Andrea for being such an asset to that restaurant. read more

I wish I came here sooner! Authentic food, great ambience and friendly service. They have great daily specials and their authentic taco menus is extensive. Tucked away in a strip mall, it's a little hidden gem. Can't wait to come back and try something else. There is a great bean dip they give you with chips and salsa too. First timer...got the enchiladas verdes with steak instead of chicken. It was delicious!!! Monday's are $4 house margs, and they're strong! But the best part, beside the awesome servers, was the jalapeño bean dip! Then again hard to compete with the steak and enchiladas! Only 1.00 more for steak. 4 stars because the steak was a little greasy and the salsa could have had more flavor. I'm full with those things aside. If I'd have eaten more salsa and dip I wouldn't have eaten my entree. I'd def come again!!! read more

Stopped here on the way back home to Dallas! This place is amazing, I wish there was one back home!!! the atmosphere is great and the food even better. I got the ceviche and it was delicious! The portions are nice and the price isn't bad at all plus I love the decor! The service was really nice and they bring out chips and refried beans as well as salsa as an appetizer for free! In the bathroom they even have a cute changing table for all the mommies out there! Would definitely come back and would for sure recommend! read more

I had an awful experience dining at this restaurant on 9/17/2022. I and my wife, attempting to be of more elightened conscience are trying to avoid eating animal products. So, we asked for veggie replacements with certain parts of our fajita meals. Apparently, the manager or owner, who decided to serve us personally, didn't take kindly to my wife asking questions about how things were cooked, because she ended up with an overabundance of halopenos in her pico de gallo. She is in no way used to exteme spiciness,, so eating raw large chunks of halopeno actually made her sick. Also,, oo make matters worse and to convey to us just how much of an arse he is, the guy was even a bit snug about spiking her food, I'd say, if you plan to eat here, be on the lookout for spiteful and downright sadistic staff. I wish I could provide a negative ten as a review, but reviews don't have integers. read more

Not what it used to be. Not at all. Used to be amazing. Now it's small portions and staff who don't seem to be very attentive to customers preferences. Very disappointed in portion size for the price. Do they care? Nope they would much rather talk to each other behind the bar and near the kitchen rather than care about the customers think. Stumbled upon this little gem TOTALLY by accident and couldn't be more thrilled. Staff was incredibly friendly, service was prompt. Food presentation was well above the norm for Mexican restaurants. Temperature, textures, flavors... All spot on. The habaneros tacos were incredible -- the chorizo was certainly some of the best I've encountered. Contrary to many other more common tex-mex restaurants, Habanero's serves their tacos street style. Two tortillas (corn or flour, respectively), everything on the side so you can garnish to your preference. And they have beef tongue. Say no more! Excellent. I would highly recommend this place to locals as well as travelers on the road. It is conveniently located close to the interstate. read more

I'll keep it simple, once you've eaten here the rest of the Mexican restaurants in the GNOA (uh, yeah - I've tried them all) taste like Taco Bell! Seriously, forget Carettas with or without the "la". OMG, the shrimp tacos, nachos, salsa were so good I'll be thinking about them until I have them again. Oh, and there is ACTUALLY alcohol in the margaritas. So tired of paying for watered down drinks at every other restaurant. We'll be regulars when I'm craving Mexican - or shopping at Sam's. Food was very good, our server ruined our experience ( first time at this restaurant). She apparently put our food on a hold order, whatever that is. So when we asked when it would be out she admitted her mistake and said it was just being started. Then when we complained to the manager she said it wasn't her fault. The manager did everything he could to make it right but it was too late. Probably should have been one star but the food was good when we finally got it read more

This is not Chi-Chis or some place trying to faux up the setting. 3) The food is great. If you are looking for typical Americanized Mexican, Spanish, South American food, this is not your place. If you are instead looking for great food that is more interesting, this is the place. For example, tonight we had a chicharron that looked liked two of biggest fried slices of hog heaven you could hope for. It was amazing! We also had the chimichurri sauce which was slightly different from what we have had in the past but it too was awesome! The experience was started with a teenage hostess who was initially rude to my friend who got there before us. After we arrived the group was sat and it took about 25 minutes for us to be spoken to. They seemed steady, but definitely not busy considering multiple employees were standing around at one point doing nothing. We still kept our hopes up because we were excited to try out the restaurant. The waitress insisted on us ordering all at once; drinks and food. My margarita was incorrect and it was $12 for a HOUSE on top of that. I was never able to inform her that my drink was incorrect because she never came back to the table until we were well into our meal. I just ignored it and still remained optimistic. Our food came and it was terrible. The el pastor tacos were so dry and hard, pineapple was only on one taco, and I was given incorrect sides. My husband received incorrect sides and the waitress forgot to enter half of our order for our kids food. When she finally came to our table to check on us... the one time she did... I told her of all the mistakes and that we were ready for our checks. Nothing was comped or adjusted even though it was the restaurants fault that our entire meal was messed up. She ran our cards, sat the books on the table and didn't even tell us "have a nice night". She just walked away. The entire table was covered in all our dirty dishes and trash. She didn't pick up anything while we were sitting there. When I waitressed, I would have been chewed out by management leaving the table that way. I will NEVER eat here again. This is by far the worst dinning experience I've ever had; food was mediocre and service was TERRIBLE. The only reason it deserves a star is because the place has a cool atmosphere. read more

You can tell when a place has "it", this place definitely has it...authentic Mexican food, incredible owners and staff. Hands down, my favorite place to eat in Covington...I actually crave it. The owners and staff make you feel like family and the food is perfect, not overly seasoned, always satisfying and never greasy. The dining area is small, but I wouldn't change a thing if it meant the overall experience would suffer. We've been eating there for the past 4 months and there have been times that we've eaten there 3 days in a row...that should say a lot. If you're looking for real Mexican food, this is definitely as good as it gets. EDIT: I have to say I was confused as to why someone would give Habanero's 1 star and a negative review, especially since almost every review is favorable, then I realized they're upset because it's more expensive than Taco Bell...well, pretty much everything is more expensive than Taco Bell. You get what you pay for and everyone knows Taco Bell is the lowest form of food. Also, the fact that the reviewer said there were "no beans" is also inaccurate, the Charro beans are incredible as well as the re-fried beans and rice, so that alone is misleading. I was staying with family in Pawleys for the week and it was my night to host dinner at the beach house. I wanted to theme my meal "Taco Tuesday" but not being from the area, I had no idea where to turn. I made a list of local Mexican restaurants and just starting calling. My first call was to Habaneros, and needless to say, it was my only call. I spoke with Lupe, and he was eager to help me with a "taco bar" and all the fixings. Do you know how many businesses act like they don't care if you patronize them or not? That was not the case here - Lupe was kind, easy to work with, and excited to get my business, plus he gave me a great price. I picked up my meal the next night and it was everything Lupe promised and more. I couldn't believe the generous portions. My family went crazy - might have been the best meal we had all week. I was genuinely looking forward to trying this place, but the experience was extremely disappointing. The meal began to unravel the moment I bit into my shrimp taco and encountered a hard rock embedded in the filling. Not a shell fragment.....: an actual rock. When I brought it to the staff's attention, no one could identify what it was or explain how it made its way into the food, which was both alarming and unsettling. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal did little to redeem the situation. The corn elote, which the menu describes as a seasoned and flavorful dish, arrived bland and dry. It tasted as though someone had taken cold corn and simply squeezed mayonnaise over it, with none of the bright, savory elements that typically make elote enjoyable. We happened upon this restaurant after a long weekend soccer tourney in Hammond, and not wanting to make the drive back to Slidell for a long lunch break between games. It was the best thing that could have happened to us (food wise) that weekend. We lost (closed for unknown reasons:( )our lone decent Mexican restaurant in Slidell about 6 months ago. It was nice to find a Mexican restaurant with an awesome food selection and a wonderfully prepared Margarita. A Margarita for me, will make or break a Mexican restaurant for me. My kids love this place and I'd love to keep ordering from them but if they leave an item out of your order they will fight you lol. We were missing a wrap and some fajitas. When I called, the very annoyed woman huffed, told me hang on, then came back to tell me he (?) said it's all in there lol. Well, it wasn't. I don't know what else to say. I don't think I'd lose a customer over a missing wrap and some tortillas. The order was about 100 bucks so this was really kinda gross of them to do. Casa Garcia next time! read more

I never had 2 separate waitresses come up and ask to take my order, so that was kind of cool. Everybody was friendly, and the service was quick. My only complaint was that the lunch portion was pretty skimpy. I would have made the taco with twice the filling, and I wouldn't have served a flat cheese enchilada. I found Habaneros using "Nearby Restaurants" on Facebook. I had no idea it existed, but I'm glad I found it! Great customer service, great authentic food, great margaritas and beer, and great environment. It is a small space so probably better for couples or parties of 4-6.
