My experience here was pretty disappointing. I wanted to support a small business with covid going on, so even though I knew their drinks were definitely overpriced and there are an abundance of milk tea places in this area, I figured I'd give this place a try.
I ordered the Signature Wukong Black Milk Tea $5.50 and the Lychee Dragonfruit Smoothie $7.50. Damn, for those prices, I had really hoped I'd be getting a premium product. In terms of aesthetics, WOW. Their drinks are made to LOOK premium for sure. The colors are so intriguing and you can't help for every flavor to wonder "oh, what is that and where'd you get it?". But that's where the fairytale ends, cause once you take a sip, it really doesn't taste all that different from competing milk tea/fruit drink products -- and I LOVE milk tea with a passion. And they were also certainly not a taste that would justify such pricing.
But I understand there's a consumer type for everything, so maybe I'm just not their consumer. I get that. However, there really is no excuse for how their daily work flow seems to be operating. I'm a fairly patient person and I especially have sympathy for shorthanded employees dealing w rush hour, but...here, I counted 6 people working with about 5 pple in line. And everyone had to wait an absurd amount of time to even make it to the counter. I myself waited 15 min to make it to the counter w about 3 pple in front, was given a buzzer, and then another 10-15min to get my drink.
Part of the problem/hold-up seemed to be that the business was prioritizing phone calls and online orders. I have NO idea why, but the person working the register was the SAME person answering phone calls. So whenever the first customer got to the counter and was in the middle of giving the order and the phone rang, the register person would pause and take the call, answering questions and writing down orders. It was pretty frustrating to watch as it happened a couple times and really slowed down the line. A couple behind us in line saw what was happening, talked to each other, and walked out. I think with a staff of 6 pple, you could easily divide work between the person answering calls, working the register, taking care of online orders, and making drinks. How could you not prioritize the people who physically took the time, effort, and gas to come in person to your actual location? It was quite a slap in the face.
Another problem I had was once I got to the counter, the register person had trouble understanding me saying "signature wukong black milk tea", and at first I thought it was just because we were wearing masks, so I spoke louder and enunciated. But she still looked confused after a couple times repeating it, which I found...not impressive as it's listed as a top 10 drink. I also started to get embarrassed and sound crazy repeating myself louder and louder lol. I thought, maybe her English isn't great? Cause I heard some customers speaking to them in Mandarin, but regardless, I don't think there should be confusion about the name of a signature drink that they themselves advertise.
Overall, I'm glad I tried it just to try it but now it's categorized as a place I won't have to return to. Hopefully you all have better experiences! read more
