One of the best hojicha places I've found! I've been wanting to switch from matcha to hojicha, so I've been looking for good hojicha spots and this place popped up. Gave it a try and got the banana cold foam hojicha. It was perfectly sweetened, and the hojicha blended so well with the banana cold foam! Such a great spot to chat or get some work done. I worked in downtown San Mateo this summer and Boba Bless became a habit. :) I am admittedly not a boba fan (not their fault!). But I had been in for one of their guava drinks last year (great stuff), and had wanted to try a matcha beverage. I chose them out of all the spots in downtown. I'm glad I did. So so good! They add a little condensed milk to the matcha iced latte; for me, this extra "something" gives their drinks the edge over all the choices in downtown. And it's run by really kind, friendly people. I got a banana cold foam matcha, less sweet level, which was a nice balance of sweetness. Not usually a big fan of banana but this was a pleasant banana taste. A random note, this place is definitely Christian centered but doesn't feel exclusionary. Kind of reminiscent of cafes in the midwest, where religion is more in your face. Love the concept of a Christian Boba place! It is refreshing to see such a place in downtown San Mateo. This boba shop was clean, simple, and inviting. Finally tried this spot out with my friend! There's unfortunately no air conditioning and there's a handful of seats inside. We ordered on the tablet and the drinks came out pretty quickly. The mango matcha looked so appealing, I knew I had to try it. Just wow. It automatically comes in the large cup size and it was so creamy and the fruit tasted so fresh. The matcha flavor was very strong and the boba was perfectly chewy. I couldn't even finish it and put it in the fridge overnight knowing the boba would probably not taste that great, but to my surprise, it was still chewy the next morning! I came back the next day because I was nearby and ordered their mango sago. No picture because I devoured it, but I didn't opt for the larger size. Highly recommend paying the extra $0.75 because the cup was more than half the size of the large. read more

There are two kiosks for you to order your drinks from. I decided to go for their roasted oolong milk tea and my husband got their guava green tea with jelly topping. Honestly? No. There was barely any tea flavor in either drink and it was watered down. We ordered the drinks with ice but there was no ice in our drinks -- it was all melted. What was really odd to us was ... someone was bringing in ingredients in coolers? They might not have a fridge? Not really sure. Not the best but satisfactory. Fortunately, it was not strongly caffeinated as I was able to be sound asleep a few hours later. Having opened last year, Boba Bless is one of the newer offerings in the boba saturated downtown San Mateo area. Located on 3rd close to El Camino, it is a bit removed from most of the hustle and bustle of the busy downtown. Yet this spot remains crazy packed on the weekends with patrons both ordering to-go, as well as dining in and enjoying the many tables and board games available. Although not very big, the shop itself has a very nice, open air concept with bar stool seating on one side facing open windows towards the street. The interior is well lit with both artificial as well as natural lighting. And the shop owners have done a great job decorating the interior to make it inviting yet modern. Service here is very friendly, but wait times are rather long due to the popularity. Highly recommend upgrading to a large, as their regular size is VERY small. There is also very little boba inside a small cup, so it does feel less than satisfying to deplete all the boba balls after a few sips. read more

When I saw there was a Christian bubble tea spot in San Mateo, I had to visit! So glad I did. There were two kiosks to order from which was convenient. There was also a good selection of non caffeinated drinks if you didn't want any caffeine! I tried the assam milk tea with boba and it was pretty decent! I got less sweet (25%) but I found the drink to still be a bit sweet (probably because of the boba) so if I were watching my sugar I feel like I could try 0% next time. There was some tea flavor in there and I did feel a bit buzzed in the evening so I guess there was some caffeine content there. The ice did melt very fast though, not sure why. At ~9:30pm there were still a lot of people hanging out at the tables, playing board games together (They have free board games for you to enjoy). I stumbled across Boba Bless on 3rd street closer to the El Camino side of downtown San Mateo recently. Parking for the most part should be easier to come by as they're located in the less busy side of downtown. I tried their Guava Spritzer with Boba and it was quite good. I could taste the Guava and the Boba was not mushy and not too hard. I would say probably order the large size, the regular size looked to be pretty small. The space inside is mostly white and is nice to look at, although not spectacular. Their About page on Yelp talks about partnering with Missionary organizations to raise awareness but I'm not sure what that means as far as their actions goes. Overall, this area is full of tea and boba shops and what seems to be more coming every 6 months. Boba Bless is a good option when you're roaming downtown. Worth a try in my opinion. read more
