I enjoyed my most recent visit to Boba Bless in San Mateo! The owner there is super friendly and personable while also offering free tea samples. The service is great and it's also a pretty comfortable place to hang out or get work done. There are a couple kiosks you can use to order so the ordering process is pretty simple. I ordered the Large Four Seasons Milk Tea with Boba with total being $7.25 which is pretty standard. The large is truly large though compared to their small size. It's almost doubled in size which makes the upgrade to a large much more worth it. The boba is also great. I liked the soft chewy texture while being just sweet enough. The tea I got at 75% which I think I should have gotten a little lower, but sometimes it's hard to get an idea of how sweet a drink from a boba shop on your first experience. The owner was also nice enough to tell us to let him know if there is any need for sweetness adjustments. I thought the Four Seasons Milk Tea was really tasty and has a really nice strong tea flavor. Wow service went above and beyond! The server was super nice and offered a variety of samples to try. We sampled roasted oolong and 4 seasons and I think assam? Soooo good! The hojicha was concentrated, deeply flavorful, and not overly sweet at all. It actually held its richness from the first sip to the last. I got the wintermelon latte, which was perfectly balanced and sweet, with a smooth, creamy finish. It had just the right amount of richness without feeling heavy or artificial. The boba itself is consistently excellent with chewy pearls and the perfect texture, not too hard and not overly soft. The drinks are well-balanced and not overly sweet unless you ask for it, and you can tell they don't cut corners on ingredients. The strawberry chocolate is also super good with flecks of macadamia nuts and strawberries within each piece. They're known for fruit flavored ones, but lemme tell you their non fruity is good too! Their Thai tea is really strong and quite good - I also like they offer it in oat milk so it's a bit less heavy. Boba was chewy and fresh! I always start with milk teas when I visit a spot and then eventually venture out to other drinks. Twice now, I've stuck with their milk teas because the brew is on point. And then the unobvious...the owner here does so much amazing stuff for the local community and the world. They've traveled to build homes and even install water filtration systems. Locally, they head out to civic center and take care of our homeless population. The owner is real, super friendly, and can tell you about his journey and what he hopes for the future. Another plus? I was walking around downtown on July 4 in the hot sun and needed a cold drink. I was happy to find Boba Bless open. I got a guava Assam black tea and it was cool and refreshing. The regular cup size for $6 is on the smaller side, which was fine for me, because I did not want a big sugary drink. There was ample seating (for a boba shop anyway) and the staff was super nice. I got the mango passion green tea with aloe Vera and had some samples of yellow cow (super nice refreshing slushie), peach assam, guava green tea, lychee Assam were all really delicious. The sweetness is perfect not so sweet even for regular level. They have some board games for people to hang out and play. Space were spacious and welcoming as well! We stopped by to look at the menu and one of the owners (Sam) warmly invited us in to try a plethora of drink samples. The tea flavor is decent and not watered down. You can customize sugar and ice levels, and there's also non-dairy alternatives. Samples are on the sweeter side, so I requested less sugar in my actual drink, and it was perfect. Keep an eye out for more drink options coming in the next few months! The space is dog-friendly and also very cute inside, although it's on the smaller side. I also love how they do charitable work! Boba Bless is located on a busy and main street in downtown San Mateo. Parking was nearly impossible on the weekend when my friends and I stopped by, I ordered online and walked over, while my friends circled around looking for parking. Honestly, they were a bit hidden, so it was pretty hard to find. Once I found them, it was all positive vibes from there - while the shop is small, they have a good amount of seating inside, and they have a very modern and welcoming feel to it. After having lunch nearby with my friends, we came here, as I had tried all of the other many boba shops in downtown San Mateo already. Not going to lie, but I walked in without high expectations, so I would not be disappointed (which is like at least 80% - 85% of the time). The owner, Paul and employees were so friendly and welcoming. Paul offered me some of their samples they had out, he poured all 3 of them for me to try and he even offered to make any other drink on their menu I wanted to sample, which I politely declined. He really tries to connect and keep a conversation going with his customers, which you do not see much anymore, especially at boba shops. I went with my go to drink at most boba shops - a Jasmine Green Milk Tea with boba and my friends shared one of their speciality drinks - their Let That Mango (Mango Oatmilk). I enjoyed my milk tea - I was going to get 50% sweetness, but 75% sweetness was recommended on the ordering app, so I just followed the recommendation, which I am glad I did because it was a good sweetness at 75%. I ordered it with less ice, which still was cold enough. My friends did not really care for their drink, and I also tried it and thought it was just alright. This is the best Boba place we've ever been to. Everything we had was really special. Each tea is made from high quality ingredients and you can taste the difference. The host was so gracious and generous. They had samples of some of the unique teas and blends. It was so hard to choose because they were so good. I had the mango Jasmine milk tea with boba. It was delicious. We also had a sample of the Thai tea jelly that was so good I'll have to get it next time. The oolong my husband got was also exquisite. As my kid said, "the place has good vibes". I went back and forth about how many stars to give. I came in on a Friday at lunchtime and it was completely empty. The place itself is hard to find. There's no outside storefront so maybe that's why there weren't any customers. There's a kiosk for ordering with one employee at the time. He was very kind and welcoming and offered to have me try samples if I chose to. I ordered 2 mango sagos with added boba in each. Apparently it was a new item they had just added. I was unfortunately very disappointed.. there was absolutely ZERO sago in the drink. Just the boba I ordered. I would have said something but I left without checking the drink and the added boba concealed the missing sago. The drink itself was just okay. Probably my least favorite mango drink I've tried. It's more milky than mango. And lacks that fresh mango taste of most mango sagos I've tried. I'd rate the drink one star since there was no sagos and it wasn't that great. I added 2 stars for the customer service which I felt was generous. I would not come here again. I would also probably not recommend it as there are far better boba spots across the street. read more
