We were running some errands in the peninsula and I needed my boba fix. I remember having a good experience with Tea Hut SF years ago (before I became Yelp Elite), and saw that San Carlos had a location as well. The shop itself is small, and there is only one ordering kiosk. There are no bathrooms available, but the singular staff member told me that I could use the bathrooms at Peet's next door. There's not much in terms of ambiance, as it seems that it's expected you take your drink to go. I went with the jasmine matcha. I liked that there was an option for oat milk without any surcharge. Even though there was only one worker, my drink was made quickly. However, it was also the middle of the day on a weekday, so I was one of only two patrons. I'm not sure what matcha they use at Tea Hut, but I liked the flavor, and the jasmine tea was nice and florally too. Overall it was a well-balanced drink and quite refreshing for the unseasonably warm March day. I will be back to try other drinks if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Ordered a osmanthus rice milk tea with Boba. Not a good experience and pricey tea! Tea is. 7.75 not including the boba toppings which vary in price. I was drawn to the real milk and cutting down on artificial stuff was appealing and chose to try them out on a warm afternoon. The wait was long, the seats were sticky and place not particularly clean. Reason for two stars - the tea. The rice was sour and weird tasting flavored syrup. The cup was a third filled with the rice and then boba. With regular ice, there was hardly any space for actual tea inthe 24 oz cup. so barely. 4-6 oz. of tea to drink. I asked for minimum sugar, there is no zero sugar option, that thing tasted sweeeet! Really disappointed. read more

I got the 24oz Creme brûlée with boba (4.5/5 stars) for $8. It was good, and I'd get it again, but it was a bit overpriced for the size in my opinion, and a lot of their options were non-boba flavors I wasn't interested in, like cheese foam or coconut pudding. I think I'd probably do Boba Guys if/when I'm in San Carlos again. I got the black milk tea with boba with 25% sugar and no ice. It was pretty good but the tea flavor was almost a little bit burnt/bitter tasting. It was a good amount of sweetness and the boba texture was good. A lot of folks were ordering the fruit based drinks so I'd try that next time. read more

Extra thick taro n milk -cold 240z -light ice -Recommended (sweetness) -recommended dairy -absolutely perfect. The taro doesn't taste artificial and is truly thick. The sweetness of the drink itself was also perfect. The taro balls in there are slightly too sweet on their own but the taro milk does balance it out a little bit. Oreo matcha - recommended (sweetness) -oat milk -16 oz ice -the recommended option for sweetness here was perfect as well. I noticed that they hand whisked the matcha and that it was slightly bitter. I also appreciate that it didn't cost more to replace the milk with oat milk. We used the kiosk to order so there's not much I can say about service. The ambiance is nice as well. Tea Hut is a cozy tea shop located in downtown San Carlos. Parking can be a bit sparse, but isn't too hard to find. The part of the street it is located on is blocked off, so just be aware in case of mobility issue. Service was fast, but the person who prepared and gave us our drinks wasn't super friendly. However, makes sense because it seemed like they were the only person working and were probably locked in on making the drinks. The drinks were good! I really enjoyed my osmathus oolong. read more

Stopped by for a quick drink and the experience was a bit mixed. Ordering is done via tablet at the counter, which is convenient but pretty impersonal. I got the orange fruit tea, which sounded refreshing but ended up being a little too bitter for my taste. On the other hand, the black milk tea was solid, smooth and just the right amount of sweetness. One thing I noticed right away: the benches were sticky when we sat down, which was a bit off-putting. Cleanliness could definitely use some attention. Service was efficient, but minimal since it's mostly self-service. Might come back to try a different drink but wouldn't rush. read more

I usually stop here when in Downtown San Carlos and I am usually pretty happy with it, the boba is usually pretty good and consistent. They do get busy and you order on a kiosk vs actually having someone take your order so its not super personal but there are usually only 2-3 people working so it works out. I will always go back for a good consistent milk tea I can count on. read more

I've been to the Tea Hut location in Millbrae, and I was excited to see that there's a location closer to me in San Carlos! I ordered my usual soy milk tea with pearls and mochi, but the mochi was SO hard and the drink was a tad watery/didn't have a strong tea flavor, especially after mixing the foam into the drink to make it creamier. I ended up just tossing the mochi away since it was incredibly dissatisfying. The pearls here are very qq and have a good texture, they also are very generous with the portion given. read more

One of the few places that has a large selection of different types of tea. I've only had their osmanthus and I think 4 seasons (?) tea with the osmanthus becoming my go to. I did not like it as a milk tea here, but the straight up tea is pretty good when I'm on go and can't/don't want to wait to cool my own osmanthus brew at home. I took points off because the workers brew it inconsistently and sometimes brew it much too long where it becomes very bitter and dry on the tongue. In retrospect, when they over brew the tea, it might be better as a milk tea so I'll try and ask that after. read more

Waited a while for my drink and strawberries coco pudding. Sucks to say I had hair in my pudding! Had it re made and they didn't bother asking what kind of pudding it was and they assumed it was watermelon because it's red. Never assume, always ask right? I'll start by saying this place is not as cheap as other boba spots and I didn't go in expecting to pay 8 dollars for one drink. The shop is clean and there's a large selection of classic choices but also specialities. But I digress. I ordered the super thick taro n milk (a special) and it comes in a very sturdy (unsure if recyclable) cup with straw and lid. Staff wasn't terribly friendly, and i was the only person there for a couple minutes. the flow of traffic is horrible. There's a Stanchioned off area which dead ends to a kiosk or you pay at the registers. However I paid at kiosk and then had to squeeze behind the people paying at the counter to wait for my drink. I'd stop by again if i was looking for a fancy boba spot, but it's not my first pick. read more

Reasonably priced high quality tea in a happening Laurel St location in San Carlos. The osmanthus oolong milk tea had a great aroma and they use rock sugar for sweetener, which is traditional for Asian sweets. Kids tried the black sugar boba and were pretty happy with it. We prefer this place to Boba Guys for the whole family because the greater selection of noncaffeinated plus offering much better teas like Four Seasons Oolong and Osmanthus Oolong. This place is amazing I go every week multiple times. The teas are perfectly sweet and use all natural ingredients and less sugar than other brands. If you didn't like it you could always do extra sweet which is great! The workers are soo nice and service was great! The first time I went I asked for a recommendation and the nice lady at the front told me the perfect thing! The store is also really nice and clean and I love the vibe there! We were walking down Laurel St. with the Family and happened to run across this Boba spot, the staff and service were both good and I appreciate the containers they came in being sturdy and the eco friendly straws. The part we were let down on was the flavor, as someone who loves milk tea I opted for the 4 seasons milk tea as that was a new option not found at other locations I frequent. The Boba was cooked well, not overly soft or firm but less flavor that I normally anticipate. A nice balance of sweet and salty which is what I needed after a heavy lunch.
