This is my first time in this Bober location, but this chain has been historically my favorite due to the fried boba preparation, their mochi donut offering, their large menu selection, and the cute Instagram-worthy decor inside. My kids and I had an afternoon at a pool so we were craving boba, so when we Yelped places in the area, we were happily surprised to find Bober here! SCORE! Unfortunately, after $30 later (an average cost is $7-8/drink bec of the separate cost for boba), I was super disappointed because the boba balls did not taste fresh! In the past, I remember the boba balls would hold their chewiness, even in an iced drink, but these were so hard, it tasted like I was chewing uncooked beans...in my milky pudding taro drink. HOW DISAPPOINTING! If we hadn't gotten the drinks to-go, I would have brought this up to the one guy who was working there. Even with the giant straws, my boba balls would get stuck and nothing would go into the straws because the balls would be coagulated at the bottom that I couldn't even dislodge them from the straw to drink the liquid portion! I tried blowing the hard boba off the straw, but that didn't work -- what a mess. What kind of super glue boba craziness was this?!! It was a waste of $30. Further, the interior decor was so cute, until you walked up closer than 10'. Then you'd see how much dirt was on each chair and "pig". It was really gross because this is a food establishment. Staff should be instructed on how to clean the seats since they are light pink. As far as service, there was only one other set of customers there (they already had their drinks), yet the staff member didn't greet us or talk to us the entire time we were there, other than calling out my name when the order was ready. Since the ordering system is by kiosk, the staff member could still humanize our experience since he was standing right at the front and not doing anything. It made the place feel unwelcoming. Stopped by at about 1pm and the business was empty. The decor is cute but could use some steam cleaning. (Not by fault of theirs but it is showing sign of wear and tear) Ordered a supreme strawberry green tea and a supreme grapefruit green tea. While the tea was not too sweet (which was perfect for me as you cannot adjust the sweetness level) I didn't really care for the flavor. I dont care for the cheesy decors but when everything is not well-kept, it doesnt feel like customers are appreciated coming in here. Chairs and cushions are filthy, being in a pastel pink color also didnt help. We tried to play it safe by ordering the classic milk tea and jasmine milk tea. Both are water down. Especially, my classic milk tea just doesnt taste right. Plastic-y and rancid as if its spoiled. I gathered my courage and asked to the employee. He wasnt doubting me about that he pulled out the Milk tea Cambro and tested it infront of me, saying its supposed to still be good. And wow what i saw proved me right. The date on the was 09/28. We were there on 10/04, a whole week of premade milk tea as he claimed that it was still good. I was firm enought that he eventually agreed to change me another drink. I want to give this place a better rating thinking that I must have had a one off bad experience. But I can only rate what I had and don't have any desire to go out of my way to try them again. The good. Their mochi donuts come in a lot of interesting flavors. I had their ube coconut which was just ok. Slightly greasy and not very flavorful. The worst was their boba. The tea was ok, but the actual boba was raw! At first I didn't understand why the drink was so gritty. Then I bit one of the boba in half and realized it was still solid raw starch inside. The San Carlos location was my first experience with Bober Tea, but I was excited for them because they offer the same concept as Ume Tea.. a surprise plushie in a cup and you know you like to gamble to see what you'd get. Unfortunately for me, my husband came along the night I stopped by and had vetoed the idea of paying extra to get a plushie so I got their brown sugar milk tea in a regular cup along with a free donut because it was a Tuesday. The whole place is instagram-ish worthy. The drink was a bit too sweet for me (I should've known better with it being brown sugar), but the mochi donut was nice and soft despite it being in the evening when I stopped by. I recently visited Bober for mochi donuts and was happy with my trip. The staff is friendly and the shop itself is cozy with some gramable picture walls. They have a variety of flavors from classic matcha and chocolate to more adventurous options like ube and black sesame. It changes up so I like to get a variety when I go in, but to be honest they all taste kinda similar. Sugar frosting on a donut with a hint of whatever flavor/toppings they put on top. So you will get a slight flavor to it but I it is mostly subtle. The donuts are presented nicely with the colors and the toppings, making them perfect for sharing on social media. I haven't really tried drinks since I go late and can't sleep if I have caffeine but it's a good little spot to grab and after meal treat/snack. You can kiosk order as well as order at the register, we wanted to order at the kiosk in order to see the offerings. We both opted for the surprise stuffie in the cup and they're super cute @sanrio plushies dressed in Dino costumes. Looking for something sweet after eating dinner down the street and found this spot. I saw they sold mochi donuts so the fam and I stopped by. Walking in I was welcomed right away. The place is very spacious and chic. Beautifully decorated with white walls and a lot of flower arches. 2 iPads to place your orders but no one was there so the high school kids behind the register helped me out. I asked what the options for buying Mochi donuts. You can buy 1 mochi donut if you buy a drink or buy 3 for $10 plus tax. I opted for 3 since I wasn't in the mood for a drink. The mochi donuts were behind a glass display. Not sure how long they've been there but gave them a try anyway. I got the taro ube, matcha, and cookies & Creme flavors. The taro ube with toasted coconut flakes was my favorite flavor. Cookies & Creme was too light on the flavor. Matcha was just fine. The texture was the signature mochi texture. The freshness could be improved by having a fresh made batch. Couple more hours and they become too hard to taste like mochi donuts. The next day I ate the left over ones and they were soft and almost moist loosing the mochi texture and having that after donut taste. For the mochi donuts I'd give them a 3.5 what brings them to a 4 is the simple fact I was acknowledge as soon as I walked in and they helped me place the order at the front register and answered my questions. Came on a Thursday afternoon after work around dinner time. There were a few other customers in the store but it felt empty as this spot is quite spacious! Roasted oolong tea was very toasty with a strong roasted flavor. It was good with the brown sugar konjac jelly. This drink is definitely for those that like a strong tea flavor! I enjoyed it but my friend was not as big of a fan. Didn't see a wok of fresh stir fried boba here like they have at other locations, but maybe I missed it, and their "stir fried" sign on the counter was surprisingly broken already. They have lots of seating and cute decor including 2 large flower arches and neon signs. Definitely an IG worthy spot. Bober is not my favorite chain but it's a solid choice for boba, especially in San Carlos/RWC where options are sparse. Who wouldn't want to take pictures in this cute Boba tea shop?! So are we there to take pictures, or are we there for boba tea? LOL. Well, Bober tea is known for its pink cutesy decorations. Each location has slightly different decorations, but it's all pink and cute. I have been to the locations in Martinez and Sunnyvale. This location in San Carlos is less pink and less dramatic. You should have seen the one in Martinez. That's my favorite. It's SO pink with a pink ball pit and swings in the shop. It's also very bright and airy. You will break your selfie sticks taking pictures in the store. LOL. Anyway, now to the bobs tea itself. What I don't like is that they put too much syrup in boba. Also, the cheese form is just too watery. Tea is kind of watery without taste eater. When we are in the store on August 10th, one of the servers was sitting on the counter where they make boba tea. Wow! Oh wow! This boba place is boba-amazing!! The ambiance is beautiful, clean, centrally located in the trendy Laurel street in San Carlos. The drinks not only were yummy, they were immaculately held in beautiful gem of cups and even included a sugared butterfly on the mango smoothie. My girls loved the drinks, the master of boba was genuinely helpful, patient and above the boba of awesome! Highly recommend for a nice date out (with or without the kiddos), as there is plush seating inside and what isn't better with your sweet kiddos or loved one? P.S. Gotta love the name ... BOBER!
