My family and I were driving home when I mentioned how much I've always liked the popcorn chicken from Ume Tea. At first I didn't plan to stop because it was already around 7:50 PM, but my family got excited and suggested we change our destination. So we drove all the way from Foster City hoping to grab some popcorn chicken. When I tried to order at 8:10 PM (I even checked the time), I was told there was no more chicken available, but no explanation was given. If fried items stop being served about 20 minutes before closing or if the fryer is shut down early, it would be helpful to let customers know. Really yummy drink! It had a good balance of lychee, watermelon, and tea. I was super thirsty and looking for something refreshing. This place caught my eye as I was actually walking to another boba place and I changed my mind to come here. Only thing that I didn't like was the wait time. They only have 2 people working. Even though there were only 3 people standing there and waiting, I realized a lot of people ordered online and did large orders. I'd recommend ordering online way in advance. I recommend getting 70% sweetness or less since it can be quite sweet. Also FYI, the Burlingame location is usually less crowded than the Millbrae one, so drinks come out faster and both locations also do online order so I recommend doing that if you want to save time. They just write your name on a bag with your order packaged inside and leave it on a table for you to grab. The coco mango jasmine bloom was reminiscent of heytea (even the name!). It's normally $6.25 for a medium, but discount brought it down to $5.31. I requested 30% sweetness and thought that was adequate. I can't imagine what 100% would taste like. read more

I am a fan of the offerings on Ume's menu and have visited many of their other Bay Area locations. I decided to try their Matcha Melon Coco since Ume's IG post made it look really good, especially since the flavor combination of matcha, watermelon, and coconut is not something you usually find at the various boba shops and franchises. I ordered ahead on their website since I knew the business had minimal space inside and there is usually a line going out the door to order, mind you only 2-3 people will be long enough for the line to reach the door lol. I always have the issue of having incorrect promised times when ordering online; the site often quotes a couple minute wait after the order is placed though I usually end up waiting 5-10 minutes at the minimum depending on how busy the business is at that time. When I got my drink, my first thought was that it did not look close to the drink I saw on IG. The posts portray the drink as a clear red, white, and green drink however mine looked almost completely white with the matcha provided in a separate mini bottle to pour over myself. Although interesting, I didn't quite understand why the matcha wasn't automatically poured on the top of my drink. Also, the IG posts showed the bottle full of matcha but my bottle was only filled halfway. When I finally poured the matcha into my drink and tried it, I noticed the drink was mostly ice and almost tasteless. I'm not sure if my drink was made poorly but it barely had any watermelon chunks either. I asked the barista if increasing the % sweetness would correlate with more watermelon, since this is common practice for fruit matcha lattes at other boba shops, but he said it does not. I have had significantly more issues at this Ume location vs other locations such as Millbrae, one of them being consistency. I think I'll just go to the Millbrae location instead of Burlingame to help ensure my drink is made the same way every time. read more

Today was my first time trying Ume tea. I ordered the Brown Sugar Boba Premium Oolong Milk Tea at 70% sweetness. The boba was sweet and chewy, just the way I like it. Drink is a little on the sweet side, next time I might lower sweetness to 50%. I ordered ahead. I got there 2-3 min after ordering. It wasn't busy so they made it so fast that I didn't even think the drink waiting on the table was mine! Very cute and tiny spot off the Burlingame Ave side street. Street parking only and can be tough to find something close by because of all the eateries around. But I love this place for their yumberry slushie. It comes with green tea jelly which makes it so good! Their Thai Tea Creme Brule is also very good but is definitely more of a heavy drink. I placed an online order for later delivery time. However, I received a text that the store made by order right away. I attempted to call multiple times but no one picked up the phone. Apparently, the phone to this store doesn't work. They list a number but the number goes no where per the workers. When I got to the store all the drinks were melted and the food was cold and soggy since it was sitting on the outside table for an hour. I had to insist and provide proof my pick up time was for an hour later for them to remake my order. We ordered the Coco Mango, guava strawberry sticky rice yogurt, and watermelon iced tea drinks. The staff is super friendly. If you are in the mood for some classic boba, theirs is nice, chewy, and close to perfect (not too soft nor too hard). I really enjoy their fruit teas though, especially when you need something refreshing. I enjoyed the Pineapple Pomelo Sago here and it was absolutely delightful. It was flavorful yet light, satisfying without being overly sugary, and it definitely hits all the right notes. The passion fruit green tea was also a hit with me. If you feel like adding the cheese foam to your drink, the peach green tea with cheese top maintained that refreshing taste while adding the complexity to the flavor profile with the perfect layer of cheese foam on top that's ever so popular nowadays. Lastly, if you want something more substantial, the black milk tea with pearl and taro is made for you - the taro is high quality and the flavor is there without being overwhelming, the pearls are nice and chewy, and the black milk tea is potent and filling.
