Driving around San Mateo on the evening of March 20, 2022, we saw this Teaspoon shoppe, so we decided to quickly stop in to pick up some milk teas for to-go. After Kuya Ods parked in a spot right by the front entrance, I walked in shortly after 9:35 PM to a fairly busy store. There were a few people seated inside and a couple of people in line to place their orders at the front counter. The wait wasn't long to get to the counter. I ordered two drinks for take-out; a CREAMY JASMINE topped with Almond Pudding and a CLASSIC THAI TEA with Grass Jelly topping. Both beverages were perfectly creamy and delicious. DOUBLE KUDOS to Teaspoon for offering Lactose-Free CREAM that tastes exactly like whole milk - you can't go wrong with that! Service was friendly and FAST - both milk tea drinks were made and ready to go in about five minutes, NICE! I was literally in and out in ten minutes with awesome drinks in hand. I like all of their drinks, in any mix you wish - usually the matcha royale or the silky mango one, or the matcha royale mango if I can't decide - but there's no end to the combinations that you can make - part of the fun is having no idea what I want until I get there - I try to be ready by the time I get to the front of the line - if it involves milk, I get oat milk, if I can ask for less sweet, I do - as otherwise they can be too sweet. The other drink had no sweetener even though it was ordered with 100% sweet. Also if you have a kid and want to split a non caffeinated drink by splitting your drink, it'll be a $3 charge to split the drink. Everything is ordered through their kiosk and there is a huge menu in the middle of the store with all of their options besides their classics (Creamy Jasmine, Liquid Gold, Lychee on Lychee, etc.) Downsides are the 24 minute parking available right in front and a $1.20 extra for additional toppings...or may I say 9 tapioca pearls. Even though my first, and, previously, only, visit to Teaspoon came quite a while ago, I distinctly remember being fairly impressed with my drink, even despite it being "just" their House (Black) Milk Tea. So, when I found myself here at this Teaspoon, you'd be correct to assume I was going to check out some of those more unique offerings! At a glance, Teaspoon probably doesn't stand out a ton from the many other boba shops in the area. Inside, there are only a half dozen or so seats, the menu isn't the most extensive one out there (though, it's displayed on a huge TV), and they're definitely more of a chain than some of their nearby competitors. However, chain boba shop or not, there's no doubt that the diverse collection of drinks here is eye catching. While many may not be all that traditional, the majority of them sound so enticing! I like coming here for the more "fun" drinks as I call them, as opposed to the traditional bubble teas. My favorite on their menu is the Grasshopper because it's super refreshing. They have other milky drinks I like if I'm craving something sweeter. It's definitely a grab-and-go establishment and the staff seem nice, though conversation is minimal since you order on the kiosk. read more

I got no boba or extra add-ins in the drinks so that I could refrigerate and drink later on if needed. I was mainly getting the drinks for my boyfriend, his mom & dad, and myself. They were coming back from a Canada trip and I was picking them up from SFO. Place was clean and open decorating and places to sit inside. If you find a 25min free parking spot outside you're golden to run in and pick up your order. I ordered Togo, less ice, and 70% sugar for all drinks that allowed adjustments. I tried the following: Pink Flamingo 10:10 *Watermelon Juice mixed with passion fruit which just sounded refreshing in this hot weather Matcha Royale w/ Mango + Oat Milk 10:10 *$1.20 More for substitute milk which I didn't appreciate Lychee on Lychee 10:10 *lychee black tea with lychee jelly Guava Sunset 10:10 *Guava juice with pineapple marmalade so delicious Although all of these drinks were amazing. Kind of disappointed but I've had way better boba... I heard from my friend that it's the best boba shop in San Mateo. I was iffy but decided I wanted to give it a try since I'm not from here. It's a casual boba place to chat with friends or just grab and go so the service was pretty quick. I ordered the creamy jasmine. When I saw the color of the milk tea and knew it was not going to meet my expectations. The tea quality didn't taste great and it was still too sweet for me even though I ordered with 50% sugar. A friend and I were walking through downtown San Mateo and came across Teaspoon. He's a boba aficionado and we decided to give the place a try. The electronic ordering system was broken, but the girl behind the counter was on top of things. She was super friendly and very efficient, easily doing the job of two people. The menu is huge (IMO), with sweet and savory choices. I'm not a fan of sugar and was glad for the not so sweet options. You can also individually adjust the sugar in each drink. They ask if you want 0%, 25%, 50% or all out OMG THIS IS SWEET! I opted for 25% in the White Crystal and probably would go for 50% next time. The drink itself was delicious and the boba balls perfectly chewy. This was only my second boba experience, but I'm looking forward to exploring more boba places. Using the in-store kiosk, we ordered a Strawberry Sangria with Strawberry Popping Boba ($8.20) and a Dirty Ube, which is a coffee based drink. I added honey boba to the Dirty Ube drink ($7.70) out of habit since this is a boba shop, but I think the drink would have been better (and cheaper) without it. There are some seats and tables inside to sit and chat while you wait for your drinks. The drinks were ready within 10 minutes and tasted as expected. The main reason why I would give this specific Teaspoon location 4 stars is because of the steep $1.20 price per topping. We were shocked to see this price as it is higher than what I've seen at other Bay Area boba shops and the Teaspoon location in Berkeley offers toppings for $0.75 each. A pro of this Teaspoon location is its convenient location in downtown San Mateo near other restaurants and Central Park. After grabbing our drinks, we took a walk around the area and visited Central Park. The space is clean, and the service was both fast and nice. The drink itself was great BUT I get a strawberry sangria 9 times out of 10 from Teaspoon and this is the first location where the strawberry marmalade was not good. The strawberries didn't taste good, there was so much grainy-ness from the seeds, and the color was not the nice reddish pink, it was a darker color that almost blended in with the tea itself which again from all other locations I've been to (about 5 other locations) I've never seen. read more

Their tea quality & ingredients are consistently good, and they have a variety of flavors that is sure to please everyone! I ordered 15 T-boxes for our Easter Gathering, I ordered first thing in the morning for the same day by calling. The owner Tony was very responsive & accommodating of our order. The staff Leah, Jack and their night crew was so friendly and helped us carry the 15 Tboxes to our parked car, made sure everything was accounted for and gave us extra boba when we nicely asked them for more!
