Another new boba spot in San Mateo. They had some samples which I got to try while waiting - one of the champion milk teas and a yuzu osmantheus - both of which were tasty. We tried the calamari shiso one which was super refreshing. The flavors were balanced too. They ran out of shiso boba so we subbed it with jasmine silk boba which was pretty good - the texture is a little different from the traditional boba but I still liked it. Overall, solid add that I will be returning to!

My new favorite boba shop! They had two drinks available for sampling during their soft opening, golden buddha milk tea and calamansi shiso. Both were delicious! The golden buddha milk tea is very reminiscent of classic milk tea that you had growing up in the early 2000s with the addicting sweet and roasted black tea flavor. The calamansi shiso is so refreshing and the slight hint of shiso is almost minty. I was really impressed with these two samples alone. I was also able to sample their signature silk boba, which is similar to gelatin and chewier crystal boba. The texture is very unique and adds a nice touch of flavor and chew to your drinks. The staff is very accommodating in recommending which flavor of silk boba goes well in which drinks. I ordered their corn matcha and this was not bad! I think the corn milk had way more grit to it than I expected. The flavor is nice, but I think it's missing something that would complement the matcha better. The flavor reminds me of a sweet corn dessert. The matcha is more on the lighter and earthy side. Some tweaks to the recipe and it's golden! I love the matcha passport stamp card they've got going on. This fuels my matcha cravings and I'm determined to try each one.

I got the iron buddha milk tea (oat milk) + maple foam - put ice even though I asked for no ice - sooooo stingy on the maple foam, there was barely any and it's $1.45 - drink itself is alright. decent iron buddha milk tea

Line still long, when you walk in it's really hot no air at all, the store didn't change anything still the same as the last boba tea store. The sign on top also not change either. Went with 2 other families The store didn't change at all they didn't even change the store name we ordered I wanted to have 0% sugar where they do have in the menu but when I order the workers told me we cannot! Why? He said mostly we can do 10% but recommended 25% for Pistachio Iron Buddha Milk Tea! TW 23' Golden Buddha Silk Boba -10% sugar Yuzu Osmanthus Silk Boba - 10% sugar Pistachio Iron Buddha Milk Tea - 25% sugar All of them are super sweet, but how can 10% golden Buddha more sweet then 25% Pistachio Iron Buddha? It's so sweet that made one of my kid threw up after. We can't taste the tea. Yuzu is also super sweet, no must Yuzu taste. Pistachio doesn't really match didn't taste the homemade cream but some nuts in the bottom. Boba not sure why it's call boba even it's silk boba it's just jello. The other family one have to ask them how much is the sugar level as well but also very sweet. One family didn't ask theirs were full sweetness can't even taste anything but sweet. Overall we are disappointed for this award winning boba tea place.

Went to try the new boba place in downtown San Mateo. They have a variety of interesting drinks. We tried the yuzu osmanthus refresher and the TW23 golden Buddha. Overall both tasted amazing. I had gotten with 25% sweet and that may still have been a tad much or was made wrong. The flavor of the tea in the golden Buddha was very good and the yuzu osmanthus was refreshing. There silk boba is unique and very tasty! We got the wintermelon silk boba with the Golden Buddha I probably won't come back, cause I think TP Tea still ranks higher. But this place was a great try.

Came back to try one of their refreshers --. calamansi shiso silk boba because I was intrigued by shiso flavored drink and boba. Shipper refreshing and yummy! It's a bit tart with the Calamansi, so you may want to have enough sugar in your drink to balance it out, but it's a deliciously crafted drink with the shiso flavor. The shiso in the silk boba really powers through and I love it. Personally would prefer the milk tea over a fruit tea, but that's my normal preference generally!

Odd One Out just soft opened in San Mateo, so you know where to find me. We ordered two drinks: 4/5 Iron Buddha (tie guan yin?) milk tea with winter melon silk boba - the winter melon flavor doesn't really come through, but the silk boba was cooked perfectly and has a delightful qq texture. I ordered the 25% sweetness for the tea but I think I could've taken it down a notch to 10%. The tea flavor is delicate and compliments the milk wonderfully. 4/5 pistachio iron Buddha with jasmine silk boba - you can taste the jasmine flavor if you really take your time to find it. Like the winter melon silk boba, the texture is fantastic. The pistachio flavor is evident, although personally, I don't find that it melds with the tea flavor well. Still, I think pistachio lovers will like this flavor. The cashier seemed like he was following a script to greet us, to ask if we'd visited locations before, etc., but still maintained cordiality - I'm seriously impressed. 5/5 service. The interior is modern and clean, but has limited seating, so no one really stays to enjoy their drinks in the shop.

I loved Odd One Out when I was living in LA and I am so happy that they've opened a location in NorCal! Especially one so close to me! We tried Odd One Out during the soft opening phase and waited about 30 min in line on a Saturday afternoon! They did a wonderful job having samples for folks to try by the register and most of the line was caused by people being indecisive when ordering. Once we ordered, the drinks came out in less than 5 min, even though they warned us it might take another 20 min. My family of four all ordered the Yuzu Osthmanthus with Silk Boba and loved it! The 50% sweetness is default and is well balanced, but I got 25% and it was perfect for me. I can't wait to go back to try more drinks! They were out of the Grapefruit and Passionfruit refreshers.

Never heard of this place but stopped by after seeing a deathly line on one of those narrow downtown san Mateo streets This is where Shuyi used to be, but fortunately it's a great replacement. They have wonderful tea quality and amazing silk boba. I would say their matcha and milk tea are just pretty generic at best, but their refresher teas are really top notch. I'd definitely return for the silk boba and refresher again

Sooo excited to have another Taiwanese boba shop in the Bay Area! They had their soft opening this weekend. Greeted by their friendly cashier, who even offered us three drink samples, which I thought was a nice touch. It's always hard to decide what to order! Of course, I had to try their award-winning milk teas. I ordered the Golden Buddha Silk Boba and Champion milk tea. You can really taste the quality and premium tea in their drinks. I enjoyed both of the drinks, and the jasmine jelly boba in the Golden Buddha was addictively delicious. The texture reminds me of grass jelly or konjac jelly; I wish I had added the jasmine jelly boba to my Champion milk tea. We waited about 30-40 minutes, but once ordered, the drinks came out pretty quickly. Simple interior with a few seats. Love the drinks, and I'll definitely be coming back!

Odd One Out is consistently our favorite boba place and we always make a point to stop by there in LA when we are in the area. It's finally came to the bay and we had to come no matter the line. The wait wasn't too bad on day 2 of soft opening! Definitely got some hype but not like an hour wait. The drinks are just as good as I remember. They know what they are doing. We get the golden Buddha milk tea and Jasmine silk boba. If you haven't had it before definitely their silk boba is so unique. It's like mochi and jelly combined. Their brown sugar milk has deep brown sugar flavor. Almost nutty. Delicious The milk tea is not too thin and in general their drinks are always refreshing and tea forward. Looking forward coming here A LOT!

Refreshingly welcome new addition to what seems like an overpopulated Boba scene in San Mateo. The drinks are unique and a nice variety although I do wish there was more than one caffeine free option. Workers were so friendly and helpful and they had two samples to try, which was very helpful considering their unique combinations of teas and toppings. considering it was pretty steamy out and I wanted something refreshing but not too sweet. I went with The grapefruit Pamela silk and added some jasmine Boba, which really turned out to be a delightful combination. We also had the champion milk, tea, and the red oolong tea I have to say was a standout I can't wait to go back and try more. Only thing is I feel like I should just have one size offering it makes it simpler and probably better for the value.

'23 TW Golden Buddha Silk Boba and the Banana Bread Matcha

We came on a Saturday and they were doing their four year anniversary celebration (company birthday, not this specific location) with 20% off beverages. The line was pretty long when we arrived, it was out the door. I'd say we waited about an hour before getting to the front and ordering our drinks. I got the '23 TW Golden Buddha Silk Boba and the Banana Bread Matcha. Silk Boba might be my new favorite thing! It has a similar chewy consistency to boba, but the texture is much more mochi-like. It also comes with a cute cooler bag which was a nice bonus. Overall, I'd definitely come back when I'm in the area, but maybe when the hype/line dies down a little.

I'm an extremely patient person (clearly enough to check out popular places like so) but it gets to a point where I am wondering if you want to be IN MY SKIN? Give space, you won't lose your line! After ordering, I happened to sit outside since the shop is tiny and the people who ordered before me happened to wait in front me-- blabbing. Blabbing about their jobs, salary, tech, tech, tech, obnoxiously loud. Almost as if they wanted others to know the internships and job they scored. Whatever-- but THE AUDACITY to make sly comments about the workers and laugh about how they weren't tipping them because they get paid to do that. I'm not one to pocket watch, but right after you brag about the money you make? Enough for me not to come back as that is not a welcoming environment I care to be a part of.

I've never done a tea tasting before; so this was a wonderful experience (esp since it's free...you just have to make a reservation).
