I came into this place because I wanted a quick snack. I ordered the Basil chicken and a fresh watermelon juice. The chicken was on the salty side. The portion size was on the smaller side. Not factored into the 3 stars for the waffle (but didn't help) - it took awhile to get my waffle. Like 25 min and the place was empty when I got there. And then one other person was there before I left. And admittedly kind of off topic - I used their bathroom and they do that thing where you have to use a key. The rope/string that the key was on was pretty gross. Are there really that many people wandering in to try to use their restroom? I would've preferred a keypad. read more

I've been coming to sweet indulgence for over 10 years now. It's a great place especially if you come with friends or a group of people who all want something different since their menu is quite extensive. They have alushies, drinks, ice cream, crepes, savory snacks, light entrees and more! My favorites are the Basil Chicken, Jelly with Mango/Watermelon, and Sweet Purple Potato Gelato. The only cons I would say is the prices have steadily increased while the portions have gotten smaller and smaller. Their basil chicken is my favorite but they give you like maybe 6 pieces or so. At places like Quickly's and TA Tea, they give you 3x the portion in comparison. Other than that, I would still swing by every now and then, though mainly with friends. read more

Since I already ate dinner, I only got dessert. I had the crème brûlée mochi toast, and this was absolutely delicious!! I subbed the vanilla ice cream for vanilla gelato, and I thought it was worth it. The mochi gave the toast a really delightful texture, and the toasted marshmallows and crème brûlée topping really pushed it over the edge. This will most likely be my go-to dessert! The only reason why I went in this place was because the Yelp listing says "ice cream and frozen yogurt." So I have been here twice now, and both times I enjoyed the gelato. The first time, I had a scoop of chocolate and scoop of coffee gelato. The second visit was on Christmas eve, I got three scoops- chocolate, coffee, and mango. We've been coming here for over 15 years and still love what Sweet Indulgence offers -- authentic Hong Kong-style snacks, desserts, and drinks. My go-tos are the mango desserts (like the tofu fa or panna cotta with mango) and the matcha soymilk slush with tofu gelato. With so many new boba spots popping up on the same street, it's easy to overlook this gem, but the desserts here have always been consistently delicious. What they serve reminds me of the treats I grew up with back home in Hong Kong -- and honestly, there aren't many places like this left in the Bay Area. So sad, my family and I have been coming to Sweet Indulgence for over 15+ years and it never fails, the owner lady with the short hair (and sometimes glasses) is ALWAYS so rude!! Full of attitude and just not pleasant to her customers. Case in point, we brought some friends and their kids here last night after dinner for their first time and they were SO turned off by how unpleasant she was. She looks miserable being there and just how she talks to people is not nice. I had to salvage the situation and reassure them that the other owner lady usually making the desserts and is in the back is waaaay nicer. She's always so soft spoken and cares a lot about her customers. I forget her name but when I use to frequent Sweet Indulgence more, she actually remembered my drink order and favorite dessert. That's when you know she cares! The workers here are generally pretty nice and helpful too which is another saving grace. I'm glad to see them still in business after all these years since they are one of the only Asian sit down dessert spots in the area that opens til 10pm but sadly, it's never a pleasant experience when I encounter the rude owner. What a shame! Food wise and desserts have been consistently these years and they have incorporated many cute desserts and different flavor gelato. Their in-store menu prices vs. their online menu prices with the QR code are slightly different. I think the online prices already tacks on a credit card surcharge. If you order from the counter and use a credit card as well, you will see a credit card surcharge on your receipt. I'm not sure if it is clearly stated somewhere on the counter that they impose a surcharge but just a heads up. All and all, don't mind the attitude if you are looking for a place that stays open late BUT if you are looking for dessert options earlier in the day, there are others in the area more worth going to with nicer service. read more

In no time, the owner lady with the short hair (and sometimes glasses) aka MISERABLE stormed out to tell us that "YOU CANNOT PLACE CHAIRS HERE BECAUSE IT BLOCKS THE DOOR" "YOU cannot stand here cause it blocks the order lane" "You can sit here, you guys split up or you wait" Whoa!!! Ok lady!!! No yelling needed... we simply didn't know !! Then we waited for about 15 mins and found a table and sat around it. Within 10 seconds, the at same miserable lady stormed out with a rag and spray in hand tried to clean the table. Yes I guess my friend was somewhat in the way... just then, MISERABLE yelled "I NEED TO CLEAN THE TABLE" and proceeded to spray the cleaning agent all over the table and our face and shirts. WTF!!! To top it off - their desserts are now TERRIBLE!!! Seriously what happened to this place? The walnut soup tasted like straight from a packet mixed with hot water. Visited the cafe with my friend as we were craving something sweet. The menu choices are very large and the dessert themselves that we could see on display looked extremely appetizing. We got a tulip dessert and another one that was of white color and round shaped with a Honey and mango drink, which all tasted great! The tulip dessert was not too sweet, more coffee-taste like. The tastes of the desserts were unique and both were very soft. The service was very fast and the cafe is a very lovely place, I saw people working on laptops there so that's allowed as well. read more

My teenager is obsessed with the dragonfruit gelato. She says nothing else compares. I can't really comment on anything else but she goes about once a week to get her fix. Some desserts were very aesthetic and cute! Ended up going for items that seemed popular: Macau pudding, tiramisu Mille crepe and matcha parfait. Macau pudding- didn't know what I expected since I've never had Macau pudding. The crumbly texture was interesting but not bad (altho it was a little hard to cut). The biscuit crust was not sweet and it balanced the mango taste well. I learned that it's a popular Portuguese dessert! Tiramisu Mille crepe- I love me anything tiramisu so I knew it was gonna be good! The crepe layers were soft but firm at the same time. Perf amount of sweetness and filling on each layer. Nicely decorated but downside was that we almost choked from inhaling the powder while taking a bite but we made it :) Matcha mochi parfait- that cup goes deep and I like how it came with a long spoon so you can get all the toppings with each bite. Strong matcha flavor and the mochi bits added a chewy texture. Overall, solid spot for asian desserts with a fair price point and tons of options! read more

Thought I should give this place another try since it was awhile ago when I first tried them. A solid 2.5 star but would round up here. Ordered their slices of tiramisu and matcha crepes cakes ($8.95 each). Not sure if they were freshly made in house or store bought, the matcha one was light and fluffy filled with fresh cream whereas the tiramisu one was dry and flaky. It didn't taste fresh. I also ordered their "Bubble" mango mousse yuzu cake ($8 i think). The cake was a tad dry but the Panna cotta filling with a small junk bite size mango really elevated this dessert. read more

Located on a street corner in the downtown area of Millbrae, Sweet Indulgence offers a large variety of different sweets and desserts. The place inside is quite clean and has a very casual vibe to it. The place is quite spacious and there are some tables to sit down and enjoy any desserts. I really like their little miniature displays by the window featuring animated characters and other miniatures. On my latest visit, I got a black sesame frozen dessert drink which came with grass jelly and tofu ice cream on top. It takes them a while to make but they do a really good job blending everything together and ensuring that the black sesame taste is balanced throughout. The ice cream was a solid touch on top and the grass jelly was silkier than most. It was pretty good overall and I enjoyed it quite a bit. read more

Seafood Harbor, Fook Yuen, etc. So when my friend's daughter chose this corner store as our post dinner stop, I wasn't sure what to expect. Walking in, the space reminds me of a soda fountain. The decor is very playful, reminding me of a place I'd like to hang out as a kid. We walked up to the order pad and studied their menu. With a pretty overwhelming menu selection, we decided to walk up to the in-person counter to place our order. One friend had a couple of scoops of ice cream in a cup while my friend and his daughter shared one of their signature iced desserts. I'll need to save more room after dinner for that next time. The dining area had only one or two other dining parties when we arrived but filled up as we finished our desserts. Being around 7 pm, I guess other nearby diners chose this for their post meal destination. They have an abbreviated food menu (appetizers, sandwiches, and noodles) too in case you seek a light meal. We came here for a late night snack. There was only one other group there so there was plenty of areas to sit at. We ordered a ham & egg sandwich, steamed ginger and milk, sesame tong yuan with taro & sago and fried octopus. The food came out pretty quickly considering the streamed milk takes at least 15 min to make. It looked like they had alot of doordash / uber eats orders. The octopus was a really small portion for the price, about 4 or 5 pieces , I probably wouldn't order it again. The sandwich was also pretty small but very tasty. This is located on the corner of Broadway and La Cruz Ave - there's street parking and a free public parking lot few shops down. The last time I came here was about 5 years ago and it's nice to see this place is still in business through the pandemic. For 4, we got: - 2x sago & taro w/ coconut milk: 4/5 - not too bad, basically a hot version of the taro coconut sesame jelly drink but in my opinion the cold version is better. - tofu pudding: 3/5 - not as smooth as I would like. If you like something more plain and not too flavorful, you might like this. - taro coconut sesame jelly: 5/5 - there were large chunks of taro on the top which I didn't care for, but the taro and coconut plus the sesame jelly worked really well together and surprisingly really tasty. This is on the sweeter side so if you have a sweet tooth and like this combo, this drink is for you! From my visits, you place the order at the front and once it's ready, one of the workers will deliver your dessert to your table.
