Love this! This HEB has a unique healthy living section, and it's perfect . There aren't too many stores near work; this is the closest to us in the Tobin Hill area. It's interesting how with a franchise one store may yield a set of expectations only to be undone by another location. Take example HEB, or more specifically the location in the Deco District, or the one I refer to as "The HEB Of The Apocalypse." Winged demons swirl over it. The tortured souls of stockers, cashiers, and helpless bakery staff are released every time the slide door is open. However their location in Olmos Park, separated by a few miles is an exercise in contrast. This location is much different, much better than the one in the Deco District. Though parking can be tricky at least you will not experience road rage nor misplaced shopping carts in the parking lot. Inside it is spacious with aisles cleared of unnecessary clutter. Signs are prominent and are helpful in keeping your time to a minimum. The produce, deli and bakery are stellar. Coupons are abundant all throughout the store and are placed cleverly on products. There are deals of all varieties to be had here. In many respects this location serves as an intermediary to the Central Market Place on Broadway Street. There are always nifty food and drink demos going on which is intended to generate a different crowd/experience than your typical HEB. Certainly this is reflected in the wine and beer selection, a refreshing departure from the Boone's Farm-Budweiser fare of other locations. There's also a wide array of meals in the frozen section that cover all styles of foods; to include vegetarian options. Again the store is an exercise in contrast. For example in the deli section they sell sushi next to barbacoa. Pastries, some of which are available at more high end locations are displayed alongside a fifty-cent croissant. By and large what I like are the checkout lanes, which tend to move rather pretty briskly. When the store is at full shopper capacity staff will guide you to a lane with the least traffic. The result is a more even flow of shoppers entering and leaving. In addition the check out clerks are friendly but can be quirky like the patrons that come here. Which is not to say that that is entirely such a bad thing. I really like this location. The place is spacious and uncluttered. The food, beverage, deli and produce sections are all stellar. The staff are helpful. And I like going to a store and not feeling a sense of danger or gloom. The Olmos HEB location is a good intermediary between the Central Market Place, their location that seems to represent their highest ideals.. And the one in the Deco District, just a patron away from a beer run or a fight in the produce section. read more

Manager on-duty, "Thomas" approached me today to inquire if I had "dropped something", he continued to harass me by asking me the same question twice again. Thomas then asked me what color and make was my car. The more I think about this the more upset I'm getting. I've been shopping at that location for almost 30+ years when the store was very small. Very expensive supermarket, it's a shame. They increased during the Covid and they continue to increase all the prices, cheese, red meat, vegetables, fruits, it's unbearable. A small piece of cheese $8, the same last year $5. They take advantage of the season with Christmas and New Year to increase more and more. read more

Ok. Now that the remodel is just about complete, I feel I can now go to this store and not be mega-frustrated. Like today. I went for a 'few' things. Yeah, right. $92 later. They are the only nearby HEB that carries Reynaldo's rice pudding. Delicious and decadent. We usually shop at the Lincoln Heights store who would probably spontaneously combust if they carried this brand. The aisles are definitely wider. That's great. I also got a sushi lunch, prepared fresh today. Tasty. Three rolls in the test for $11.99. Not bad at all. All in all, a nice experience today. read more

This review is for the pharmacy drive thru. I was on the outside lane waiting behind a small white car. The pharmacy employee helped 3 cars in the inside lane before helping the car in front. If a car has to wait for longer than 10 minutes, the HEB employee should suggest that they move to the side so others can be helped and sent on their way. Either they hire more employees to help out the customers or organize a better system. Very poor service! read more

H-E-B now allows Employees and Vendors to NOT ware face masks during the Covid Pandemic. They further crowd their store isles making social distancing impossible for their shoppers by stocking shelves during peak shopping times. When this concern was brought to their Store Managers attention ( Thomas) he shrugged off my safety concern stating "I don't want to hear it." Thomas made no attempt to change what he said was "Company Policy" and focused instead on the photos I took documenting these conditions. H-E-B is not concerned for the safety of their customers and has decided to NOT follow basic CDC guidelines. H-E-B is closed from 11pm-6am and like other retail chains, such as Walmart, could choose to stock their shelves when their stores are closed. The fact that they don't error on the side of caution for their customers safety during the Covid Pandemic shows their priority- Profit and convenience over shoppers safety. read more

I cannot believe the incompetent manger you have at HEB Olmos park. I was left on hold fo5 5 min. by the operator, then transferred to a female manager who was more incompetent. No one answered the phone in the department I needed, which was the pesticides. I asked if she could tell me if they carried Raid indoor fogers. At which time she proceeded to tell me that most fogers are for indoors. She said that she has a 7 thousand sq foot area and I stopped her there and said, again, exactly what I was looking for. She threw a temper tantrum and disconnected the call. I am sick of the rudeness and lack of staff at this place. The HEB Headquarters customer service person, is just as incompetent as the X@$! Ugh. This place is always on the gritty side. It's not really clean. The produce here is yuck. There's always long lines for the cashier. It does have a good frozen food section, but everything else seems to be lacking. They heavily skew the merchandise towards the Latino demographic, which can be good if you're looking for certain ingredients, but if you're looking for fresh produce or seafood, it's lacking heavily. It's a plus that they do sell gas there, which is usually cheaper than most of the rest in the 'hood. read more

I am writing to support the review written by Ramiro about the delays that are caused by smokers who go through the Express Lane. Very often these nicotine addicted people seem to be moving at a slower speed than the rest of us. They also look like they are half awake. Some appear like they did not have the time or clear mind to dress properly. Here is a regular scenario. They will pay for a few items that have been rung up. Then they will ask for a pack of cigarettes. A new transaction and now we are running late because of this lack of focus. There are times when the "correct" pack is not in the overhead display case and the cashier has to walk (slowly usually) to another register to get a key to open the large cigarette and cigar case. At this point everyone in line behind the cigarette smoking meathead is glaring at the offender. The cashier locks the big case up and then carries the key back to the register where it is kept. He or she then returns and rings up the sale. Some of these clueless smokers then proceed to go through a wallet or purse to find the correct change. Counting nickels, dimes, pennies etc. Why does HEB continue this stupid arrangement? Please fix this! Sell those cancer sticks from one designated register. That would be one less complaint that we regular folks have about our HEB experience. I am incredulous that in the midst of a global pandemic, H-E-B still does not support contact-less payment options such as Apple Pay, which are widely supported by their competitors (e.g., Whole Foods). What was once a minor inconvenience has now become a ***serious health concern***. The CDC and WHO have repeatedly endorsed reducing physical contact with public objects such as payment terminals as an effective strategy to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. I just happened to be on this side of town and in need of some groceries. I was expecting a rather run-down HEB but was surprised that this wasn't the case. To me, this HEB looks rather newly renovated. It's a lot bigger than I had expected, too. Parking is somewhat limited so a hike might be in store for you. They've got a decent fruits & vegetables section. However, the seafood counter was one of the worst I've seen at an HEB -- tiny! Everything else about the store seemed quite up-to-date HEBish. Keep in mind, this isn't a "Super" HEB so the bulk items and "Natural" goods aren't available. read more

I drive a long way to shop at the Olmos Drive HEB. It's a Goldilocks, just-right, balance of products and conveniences. Staff are exceptionally helpful in the ways I don't find at the HEBs near my home. The low score reflects my recent experiences trying to check out. Corporate management must've fired a lot of checkers since they installed those pesky self-check kiosks. I'm sorry for the employees who aren't there anymore and I'm sorry for me since those employees aren't there anymore. I have stood in long check-out lines both at busy shopping hours (Saturday at mid day they had only a few check out lanes open) as well as off hours. I know HEB is trying to train its customers to check themselves out but I'm not going to do that. Ever. But I am going to look for another grocery store if they don't return to acceptable check-out service. read more

HEB usually is the best store in town. However, I think that Mrs. Butt would not want her name on this one. The store is always crowded but filthy dirty. I wake up in cold sweats every time I think of the man I witnessed eating cherries straight out of the bin. I was horrified, then I went over and pointed this out to my wife who made the nightmare worse by asking me what he was doing with the pits. I don't even want to thank about it YUK! This is my neighborhood HEB. And while it's no Lincoln Heights HEB, it gets the job done when I don't want to drive far. Plus, they always have my Fage yogurt with honey, with Lincoln Heights runs out of a lot. The produce section is meh, nothing fancy and sometimes the selection is subpar, plus their organic offerings are a bit smaller than some fancier HEB's and Central Market. I also wish their turkey (ground, burgers, sausages, etc) selection was broader. Other than that, you can find just about anything you need here and will never have to wait too long in line. Speaking of, their line situation is kind of ridiculous since there's barely any space between where the aisles start and where the register lines begin. It still moves pretty quickly though. Video online shows employee Joseph and 4 other employees putting down a person and refusing service for no other reason but being Hispanic. Went to get my dog vaccinated this evening with an HEB participating veterinarian clinic. Was stressed and rushed about getting there before they left. Parked the car, took care of my dog, only to find my car unable to start once we were ready to leave. The security guard outside HEB was so helpful and friendly. He took time to help me get it going. He calmed my nerves and talked me through it...even telling me what he was doing, and all with a smile and patience. Kudos to him and HEB! read more

The thing that grinds my gears about the H-E-B is how they have employees follow you around the store to "prevent" shrink. As someone who has lived in the neighborhood far longer than this H-E-B has existed I am beyond fed up with looking over my shoulder to have employees staring me down. They have been using this practice since I was a kid and had my aunt put them on blast for doing this. They can't even pin point the right stereotype for this practice (see % of white women who shoplift) . All it's doing is creating a level of anxiety that goes beyond the store and also makes H-E-B look like trash. I'm tired of this particular store thinking this is ok. It's not. I'm going to stray far away from the bandwagon here and give this spot three stars. It's a grocery store. I go there to buy groceries. It's not a super fancy plus! version of this chain. It's just a good, standard grocery store. I like that I can run in and out in a few minutes. I like that I don't have to wander around 50 aisles of stuff to find a loaf of bread. I like that it's small. This location isn't HEB prettiest. And I'll agree that it could use a facelift, and possibly even a good scrub down. But, if you are in the area and in need of a quick grocery item or two, it does the job and you can usually get in and out in a few minutes! read more

I guess I have a different take on this. The one thing I love about Olmos HEB is the diverse group of shoppers there are. I'm a big people watcher and most of my time is spent browsing the aisles for groceries & observing everyone around me. I'll never forget the one homeless guy in the cleaning product aisle who was literally spraying himself with Febreeze! From cool hipsters, soccer moms, snooty richies, preppy Trinity students, homeless down and outs, welfare recipients, regular joes and artsy fartsies~ this is MY HEB! My only complaint with this and all HEBs is that prices ring up wrong alot of the time. I have to carefully watch the prices as my groceries are scanned. Its not gonna stop me from shopping there though. read more
