You can find anything from wine and beer, to snacks, local produce and so much more! My favorite thing from this store are their breakfast tacos! Yes, you heard that right! They make the BEST breakfast tacos in the southtown area and they sell out quickly. Their breakfast taco menu includes bacon and eggs, chorizo and egg, bean and cheese and country sausage. This is my Go-To spot to grab something quick when I'm too busy for a sit down. And I never leave there without getting at least one of their oatmeal cookies- soo good! I went in there to get something cold to drink once in the peak of the hot summer and planned on walking down to the river after I got something cold and mentioned to the woman working that I was going to try and feed the turtles down at the river and the manager at the time- She was so sweet.. when I told her what I was doing she went back in their little kitchen and gathered up a huge bag full of scraps for me to toss to the turtles! Every time I visit San Antonio, the Blue Star complex gets bigger and better. On my most recent trip to San Antonio this past weekend, a friend and I explored the shops (some of which I hadn't been in before), and we wandered into Blue Star Provisions for a bit. If I were local and lived in Southtown, I'd probably do a bit of shopping at Blue Star Provisions. This little grocery store had great local produce, including meat and dairy. Yeah, you can get this stuff at Whole Foods, but here you can also fill up a growler of any of Blue Star Brewing Company's beers. (And just because you can get stuff at Whole Foods doesn't mean you have to!) They also had a case of baked goods. Definitely not cheap. And it's not going to replace your HEB, but if you're in the area, stop in and buy something for dinner or grab a growler! It's a fun place! read more

This is a quaint little store with a selection Tim of interesting and good-for-you products. There is also a selection of drinks on tap. Free samples of each selection are available. Growlers can be purchased and filled with said selections. We tried a variety of options by my favorites were the Sanfria and the Apricot. The attendant was really knowledgable about the different selections and was extremely pleasant. Will definitely be going back. read more

Blue Star Provisions is a cool place but there is no reason to buy anything there unless you live right next to it and have a lot of money to throw away out of convenience. I stopped by to get a smoothie before ordering some food at Halcyon, which is right across. They are pretty pricey but I wanted to try it out so I thought why not. I got the pineapple and greens smoothie and wasn't that impressed. I couldn't taste the pineapple at all and it wasn't blended very well. The girl that was working that day was super nice though. They have really good fresh juices in little glass bottles but they are really expensive...In the end it's really not worth it. I think it's worth checking out once or twice but that's about it. read more

Open about 6 weeks, Blue Star Provisions looks set to corner the local market in imported eclectic food items in an equally eclectic neighborhood. This shop is located adjacent to Halcyon in the Blue Star complex. It's actually attached, both architecturally and entrepreneurially to the Blue Star Brewery next door - hence the name. The owner was very outgoing describing the various products, where they're from, and his culinary creations both for this shop and for the brewery next door. Most of the items are fairly common import items you can find in bigger grocery chains. Amongst those items are some more interesting things like Honey & Sunflower Seed Spread. They even have some bread made fresh locally and some meat from farms not too far from San Antonio. They have bulk items as well e.g. jelly beans, gummy worms etc., as well as some spices. A few standouts worth mentioning are the "growler" station in their cooler, the cold-pressed juice bar, and their home made kolaches. The "growler" station has around a dozen items on tap, literally, but not just brews. Evidentially, they were sold out of their on-tap kombucha... They also have, for example, sparkling water available in growler form. Prices vary based on product and size. And yes, they do sell the growlers in store. Additionally, Blue Star Provisions has a cold-pressed juice bar. While juice bars are becoming more and more common, cold-pressed juice bars seem harder to find in River City. Well, this place will sort you out. Lastly, the shop proprietor, or one of them, is also a chef or sorts. He prepares kolaches fresh daily and in some quite interesting varieties like Peaches & Cream w/ toasted pecan. The didn't look like the kolaches we're used to getting at most places here but I'd certainly give them a go. Oh, they also have a seating area behind their shop just in case you can't wait to down your kolache and fresh from the tap kombucha. Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I will be trying a kolache - that's a given. read more

As mentioned by two other reviewers, the most unfortunate part of this store are that many of the products aren't unique and can be found at Whole Foods. I don't mind paying more for specialty items, but Blue Star Provisions isn't particularly carrying much special. Or rather, if they are it does get shadowed by the Tazo Tea you could buy at Target, HEB, Walmart etc. That tea could instead be either a local tea from Austin or San Antonio, or another unique blend that we can't get elsewhere in the city from the west coast (looking at Red Blossom Tea Company). In Fayetteville, Arkansas there is a store like this called, Blackboard. I really hope the owner looks that business up to see what they carry and how they are doing it right. The owner is an Austin native that stocks her store with local Arkansas products, cheeses from New York City that you can't get anywhere else in town, really unique products like spicy honey, and lots of "treat yoself " goods like beautifully packaged fair trade chocolates. If I needed to buy a gift, that is where I went, and their square footage was way tinier than Blue Star Provisions. I do shop at Provisions about once a week. I want it to stay because I don't use cars and live in this part of town because it has a better walkscore than most of San Antonio. Until they stopped having it on tap, we would fill up our gallon jug with delicious 99 cents mineral water made in store. Later we still came back for still water until we bought a water filter. We also filled our growler with a few things. The Austin based Basil kombucha was awesome, fhe raspberry beer was sour and seemingly not brewed right, and the cold brew coffee was good but fizzy (is on tap coffee supposed to be fizzy?) They carry just one brand of milk and while I'm not sure whether it's available in town elsewhere or not, the whole milk Milk King Milk is decadent. Definitely so rich it should be enjoyed alone or with your coffee and tea, not your breakfast cereal. Over all I want this place to succeed but I wish it'd be better. I get the impression that "current/with the times" businesses in San Antonio catering to the millennial influx or locals eager for businesses that make the Austin commute unnecessary are getting by with doing good enough because they have no competition. Unfortunately they are charging prices that reflect the monopoly but not awesome quality. read more

It's a great downtown-locals-community-grocery for those who choose to live there, cut off from the convenience (and pricing) of real grocery stores. I love that there are fresh-baked goods (available while they last) and a cold-pressed juice counter (try the Horchata drink!), not to mention the beer taps in the refrigerator. The produce section is limited and pricey, and if you come by after about noon the baked goods tend to be sold out- they just opened a couple of months ago, so maybe it's just a matter of figuring out how much to make on any given day. The appetizers were lukewarm to cold. The nachos with chicken hardly had any chicken and they were cold. The coating on the fish was tough, not crispy. The chicken pasta dish lacked flavor and or seasoning. The cost of a 4 oz pour of a glass of wine was outrageous at $10.50 a glass. The pour of wine in a small wine glass was barely 4 oz at best. Our waitress was friendly, but seemed overwhelmed as there were long periods of time where we did not see her. Our bill was over $200 We would not go back; very disappointed. read more

I never like to shop at boutique grocery joints because I normally leave feeling depressed about how much I spent on only a few things, but that's not the case with Blue Star Provisions. Just this afternoon I paid only $7 for the following: two bean and cheese tacos (so good) a container of their homemade creamy jalapeño salsa (THE BEST, please buy it so they will hopefully make even bigger containers to feed my addition) and a gallon of seltzer on tap (yes, in addition to their beer on tap they also have kombucha, seltzer water, and reverse osmosis water, what??). My favorite part of this place is that when you look through the shop you can really tell there's a huge sense of pride that goes into their selections with tons of locally sourced items that normally you would have to grab at the farmer's market (mother culture yogurt! Pawsitively Sweet Bakery! and more, more, more!). I love the items they pick, and I'm so glad they're here! read more

I can't express how much I love this place. From breakfast tacos in the morning, to picking up a few groceries for dinner, I'm so glad Provisions is there. Their pricing is competitive (plenty of wine in the $10-13 range, my favorite spicy chili garlic sauce in an XL jar for $3.65, jar of vegan pesto for ~$4) and, sure, they also have some pricier specialty items. But it's so much more pleasant than going to the grocery store, especially after work. I hope fellow neighbors realize what a treasure we have! read more

I gave this place three chances when it came to their Walnut Almond smoothie. I finally gave up on this 8 or 9 dollar smoothie after this last time that I asked for no honey or agave.. thinking that would fix it. Not only does this smoothie already have dates in it but it also has banana.. that right there does not need honey and/or agave unless you are aiming at a sugar spike. When I ordered the smoothie the cashier said it would take a while. whatever that means. I told her that was fine and patiently waited for the line to die down. When I saw that it did and she wasn't getting my smoothie, I looked around and noticed it was just sitting at the end of the cashier station. No notice at all. Once I got the smoothie without extra sugars added I was thrilled to finally have a great tasting smoothie from this cute little spot. As I drank it I noticed something was funky. I didn't know if the granola was different or something so I asked about it and she said it was beer grain granola.. okay okay maybe that's just what it is. As I kept drinking it though all I could taste was stale. I forced myself to drink this STILL overly sweet and stale smoothie but just about halfway I had to trash it. I think either the granola or the walnuts were stale from maybe not being used often enough. And the cashier telling me, "it's going to take a while and some people don't really want to wait" .. that tells me they don't like taking time to make the smoothies and they are attempting to convince the customer not to get it. Which means the ingredients must be stale. Also.. after mentioning to my friend twice that my smoothie sucked still, the cashier asked how my smoothie was. I wasn't going to act like I liked it especially since this was the third time giving it a shot. So I initially asked about the granola and she mentioned it was a beer grain. She also said she thinks it really does need the agave and honey. I told her it's already pretty sweet but just tastes kinda weird to me. I told her it must be the granola I'm not used to or something... after that she said sorry. The cashier did not offer to exchange the 8 or 9 dollar smoothie for a better one.. she just simply left me at unsatisfied. I really hope something gets done about this little smoothie stand because it's a great space just not well executed. We went on the last day of their Grand Opening weekend. I had been following the progress of this place on Facebook for a while, and I was really excited to go check it out. We don't live in Southtown, but we really love the area and are there quite often to eat at our favorite pizza spot, Stella Public House. Overall, I was really disappointed with this little shop. Almost everything there, besides a few items unique to blue Star, you can find cheaper at Whole Foods! I don't know how they raised prices higher than Whole Foods, but they did it. I bought some laundry dryer balls there that I had seen on Facebook, and a small bag of anise seeds. I tried to make conversation with the cashier and ask a few things about the place, but it seemed like they didn't have any desire to talk to us, even though nobody else was in the shop. It seemed very unfriendly and awkward. While getting pizza after, our waiter let us try the cookies from Blue Star Provisions, and they were awesome! So we had to go back for those. But they're literally the only thing I would go back for. read more
