The food is home-cooked tasting. Delicious burgers, gorditas, nachos, fried pickles. Check it out for sure. Must visit. At least once.

Get Lucky! This is a shady convenience store in the heart…read moreof Downtown San Antonio, right down the way from the Esquire and a staircase that leads down to the river. Did you know that you can legally drink alcohol out in the open along the Riverwalk? You can't have an open container while walking around at street level, but on the river, it's all good! One option would be to get a drink at the local bars, which tends to be expensive, and they're not generally happy with you running off with their glassware. Therefore, going to Lucky's is always a good option! You can grab a quart or a tallboy here, get it in the paper bag if you insist on drinking on street level, but you don't need it for the Riverwalk! Drink up, buddy! This place seems to sell a lot of crap! They have a variety of San Antonio souvenirs- t-shirts, hats, and such. I didn't see anything I needed. When I went, there were a couple of homeless folks in here. One was buying a fake rose packaged in a glass tube, and steel wool. Hmmm... The beer was cold, but they didn't have the sizes that I'd prefer for drinking on the Riverwalk. Buying a six pack rarely makes sense when you can keep buying individual beers, since the six-pack will get warm in the Texas heat quickly. There are better options around here for what you wanna get from here- there's a Walgreens down the street, and a CVS down the river. There's zero parking for this place.

This review is for their coffee/smoothie bar only:…read more Be aware Central Market is under major renovation. Half of the market was closed off, but something new that popped up near the front of the store was a coffee/smoothie bar. We stopped in for a quick to go order of a coffee, pastry, and smoothie. I loved the fact that there is an option to make your own. I was able to choose my base, 2 fruit options, and a veggie. I chose - blueberry, strawberry, (comes with a banana), spinach, and almond milk. Perfect! Healthy and fresh. The girl behind the counter was friendly and accommodating. There's also a gelato bar. Curious to see what's new when renovations are done!

He specifically told me to come back today for veal cutlets, assuring me that if they weren't already out, he would cut them fresh for me. When I arrived, I was told the shipment never came and they didn't have any. Mistakes and shipment delays happen, but what made this truly frustrating was the complete lack of customer service. When I explained that I had just made an 80-mile round trip based on their explicit word, the only response I received was a dismissive "too bad." I expected far better accountability and communication from a store that prides itself on quality and service. Very disappointing experience.

So many tears we've cried So much pain inside…read moreBut baby, it ain't over 'til it's Kroger. Here we are, still together, reading my crappy reviews of crappy grocery stores. Why do people get so upset about bad reviews of grocery chains? The billionaire owner doesn't care about the bad review unless it affects his/her (probably his) ability to make the next billion. Why do you care so much? In any case, it's an average Kroger with typically high prices, for me the HEB nearby is better, but there are some things I can get here and not there, and that's basically why we come here now and again. And for Barbi to be sexy.

Our local NBC affiliate, KPRC, falls all over themselves praising HEB which is a Texas-based…read moregrocery chain. Coincidentally, HEB does a lot of advertising on channel 2. HEB sponsors our Houston Thanksgiving parade and other events. Their commercials feature Houston sports personalities. Everybody in Houston loves HEB it seems. The funny thing is nobody seems to be aware of HEB's lack of customer service, their constant inadequate inventory, or their store personnel's lackadaisical attitude toward their customers! We have been loyal customers of our local HEB since around 2000. The prices are good. But some time ago during about a two-year period they remodeled the store three frickin' times. And every time we had to relearn where everything was! It was a giant pain in the ass. And items that we liked were constantly disappearing from the shelves. At one point I asked a store manager about the constant remodeling and he said something about doing it to serve the customers better. It's not better if every 6 months we have to learn where everything is! After the pandemic started more and more items were out of stock. They had good reason to and did, blame that on supply problems which plagued many retailers nationwide at that time. But their poor inventory of necessities like pain medicine and fiber supplements had been happening for years before. They quit selling plain old Lipton iced tea mix. All that was left was flavored tea mixes and those damn Keurig cups. That may not seem to be a big deal but this is Texas. The great old South. We love our iced tea. Their excuse was that they were just doing what the customer wanted. You can't tell me that Southerners in Texas no longer enjoy plain old-fashioned instant tea! We used their home delivery service for a while but it was fraught with difficulties. Their website was so slow it would take me about 3 hours to order. They failed to give us our online discounts. At one point they wouldn't make a beer substitution even though they had done so in the past. They even refused to let me order beer for a few weeks. Their various departments don't communicate well with each other. As a side note to all of this, I went to use my Goodrx discount at the pharmacy and they wouldn't honor the price. Goodrx claimed that there can be a difference between your membership card price and the regular Goodrx coupon price! I went back again but clipped the wrong coupon. After pulling up the right one on my phone the HEB pharmacy rep still wouldn't honor it. I called the store's general manager and told him about the problems we had with his store and that we were no longer going to be shopping at his store after some 20 years. He didn't seem to care. He very nonchalantly said, "OK". But there is a silver lining to all of this. It's because of screw-ups like these that I have decided to use my writing business for investigative reporting and consumer issues. See you on the web.
