Instacart charged me for an annual membership when I wanted a monthly subscription and since I placed an order at the same time I was paying for a monthly subscription, their policy is no refunds EVER. I am forced to do monthly because I am an 82 year old senior living on a pitiful SS check and can't afford to pay anyone $99 all at once. There actually is another reason I prefer to pay monthly because when they deliver poor service I can stop using them. Sadly, they deliver at more places than anyone else so I keep coming back. Bad me! Every single time I use instacart - they mess up my order and with their policy - once I place an order I can never get a refund NEVER! I hate this store. Its filled with junk food and processed foods, and only has a very small selection of organic produce and meats. I fail to understand why all the items they make in house are filled with ingredients I can not even pronounce, aka preservatives and additives. My fav thing about the store is the massive cigarette displays prominently placed at the end of the check out stands. Its great how they are more concerned over profit grabbing then the health of Austinites. We go to this store all the time and recently saw an extreme decline in their quality of food. We have gone several times with the produce spoiling the next day. Today we found WORMS in the salmon. We called to tell them and they barely seemed to care. Super disappointed with this store. read more

While I love HEB and was thrilled when this one opened, it's now among my least favorite locations. I'll go out of my way to avoid the Mueller location, with the exception of weekday mornings. Every holiday, every weekend, most afternoons, and every time really bad weather is predicted, the store is over capacity. Even when all of the cashiers seem to be open, weekend lines can extend so far down the aisles that it's difficult to get a cart through. While the recent addition of self check lines should help, I'd rather go to Fiesta or the larger Hancock HEB, where there are more cashiers. Not surprisingly, the parking lot is also inadequate for the volume of customers who visit this store during peak periods. The store will get still more crowded as nearby apartments are completed and occupied. Another nearby quality grocery store would help alleviate the overcrowding, but Mueller real estate is expensive and HEB has a non-compete agreement that prevents any other large grocers in the neighborhood. At the moment, there's no end in sight to the crowding...so I will do my part to help fix the problem by going elsewhere. read more

Glad they are open until midnight so I just do not have any problem picking up stuff . Their staff is always always so helpful & good. If they see you struggling for something either u can't find it or can't reach .. there are happy to help. Or just find any associate and ask!!! Always stocked up and fresh fruits & vegetables. I actually have a lot of respect for the HEB practice of allowing store GMs to customize their concept and merch for their local clientele. That said, for someone new to town, the inconsistency can be frustrating and confusing. One HEB is stellar; another a dump. Well I can report based upon my HEB tourism, this is a fabulous location. Clean, well stocked, terrific produce, large wine and beer selection, large cheese selections, large health and beauty section, some gourmet and gluten free and organic items. As others have mentioned they often have live music. Prices seem very competitive. This is a great one stop shop --can get health and beauty, paper product and also organic foods and specialty items. I drive from downtown when I need a major grocery store run. Love this store! read more

DO NOT... This specific H-E-B is a mess. Rude employees, extremely crowded with very little checkout staff, and minimum 30 min wait for the pharmacy. The sushi guy is smoking on the side and his counterpart has headphones in so nobody is reasonable. Tried to ask a simple question about where are the advertised items (spring rolls, etc) and the young employees will tell you "I'm new and dunno". You call them to at least report that the employee literally has headphones on and says f*ck off. Furthermore, if you order curbside they'll give you everything that is about to expire within 24-48 hours. Go to Fiesta around the corner instead of this disaster. read more

I like this store. A lot. However, several months ago, Austin banned single-use plastic bags. H-E-B complied. But then the state government overturned that ban. Now, H-E-B in Austin doesn't provide any free shopping bags. You can buy a reusable one for 23 cents. But why? H-E-B stores elsewhere in Texas provide free bags. Other local supermarkets -- Fiesta and Whole Foods, as well as H-E-B's sibling, Central Market-- all provide free bags. I usually take my own bag, but I do sometimes forget. I seriously can't believe what the Director of this HEB told me today. I was trying to return a brand new cooler I purchased last weekend. After I got it home and went to fill it, I realized it was damaged. This was annoying because I bought it for a last minute camping trip and now was without one. I live in Rockdale and there isn't a HEB. Today after a long day of working outside I stopped at the HEB on 51st before my drive back to Rockdale. I was told HEB isn't like other chain stores where you can return anything purchased at any location. What??? Richard refused the return and told me I would need to go back to the store I purchased it from. A store that was the opposite direction from where I was heading (home). A store that is 1 hour and 12 minutes from my home. This is absolutely ridiculous. Customer service and basic common sense has been replaced with corporate GREED and lack of transparency. read more

We love this HEB. We drive about 20 minutes just to get to this H-E-B we passed "bad" HEB's just to get to this one. This H-E-B is really big they have a huge selection and they're very clean. They have a lot of good selections but they definitely have a lot of area to grow. They have a good cheese selection and produce selection. However they're lacking in health food. They need to carry Bubba's veggie burgers!!!! And gluten free white pizza (Against the grain pesto pizza). Their chocolate selection is awful!!!!!! Central market has the most amazing chocolate selection! HEB's chocolate is all disgusting huge name brand chocolate that taste like wax. HEB why can't you be more like central market?????? Their baby food selection is lacking (puffs and melts and snacks). If you want more healthy gluten-free or vegan food I suggest central market and Sprouts. We've waited years for this Mueller location to come up to HEB standards (since it first opened). We are patient & compassionate, but Management has consistently been "too busy" to listen to or respond to us & to very many other customers. They don't take care of needs of this ethnically diverse neighborhood like other HEBs. While the store design is problematic & can be held responsible to some extent, the human beings in management need to focus on what is truly important please. This location was awesome when it opened. It's still an awesome location, but now it's insanely too crowded all of the time. For some reason, even though the lines consistently go back into the aisles...the store never has any cashiers in registers #1 - #6. No idea why. Typically takes ~30-45 minutes to pick up a prescription now in store, and ~15-20 at the drive thru. Recently heard someone say, "This is not my H-E-B..." Would be awesome if they kept all registers open. Several people in the neighborhood Facebook groups have complained and have started shopping at other (farther) locations. HEB is the best grocery store ever. The Mueller location epitomizes this excellence. Plenty of parking, other supplies nearby, good gas prices. This location is big but not one of the humongous ones. A plethora of selections, a good beer and wine section, and lots of natural products. They also have a number of items from local businesses, which I love. Checkout is quick and easy. The new self-service lane has really cut down on the time. I'm in and out in no time. read more

First thing is first this HEB is tiny and already has a lot of people that come here especially during the weekends or peak hours (after 5pm). Secondly I LOVE the Cafe Mueller as there is always something delicious to chow down on and fill up my HEB growler with whatever Texas home crafted beers. They have an awesome Happy Hour as well that also includes Sunday mimosas for $3 that you can order and take around with you as you shop in the store. I have seen the lines for checking out wrap around all the way near the pre-made / heat up prepared meals area (near produce), however, in HEB's credit and the cashiers the line moved super fast and within 10 minutes I was in and out of the line. As someone who shops consistently based on sales and coupons this HEB can be a little tricky to get what you want because most of the food or items have already been picked out by Favor, Instacart, or just other shoppers. Parking isn't too horrible but do make sure you gas up at the HEB gas station just at the end of the parking lot. They always have cheap and good gas. read more

This HEB is in a pretty spectacular building with a beautiful vaulted entrance. There's a fair amount of parking, though on its busiest days you'll probably have to park a bit far away. It's fairly intuitively organized, I rarely have trouble finding the aisle I need for the things I'm looking for. The selection is decent, more or less on par with the other HEB locations in Austin. It's Coronavirus response has been really spectacular. The staff are keeping the location running really smoothly. While products disappeared at the start, HEB recovered really quickly and most things are in stock at the moment. The social distancing policies provide good peace of mind and the employees are really friendly. This HEB location is as good as any, and the company has really earned its spot of honor among Texans. read more

OK, I reduced myself in age about 30 years and fit right in. This is a massive store, with seems to primarily cater to the late 20s-30 crowd who are not in to cooking, but rather heating premade meals. While I feel sorry for those who do not enjoy cooking from scratch at home, I fully realize and support those who have worked all day and just want to throw something in the oven and sit back and watch TV or play games on the computer. Also this is a bullseye for those with their first young children. I spent almost an hour in the store checking things out and kept thinking that I live in the area, it would be my go-to store. I did miss seeing the ability of fish mongers and professional butchers, but I do have another location where I can get custom orders of meat and fish. The one thing that really stood out is the availability of fresh pressed juices. This is something I love and was a happy little clam when I happened upon them. The store was clean clean clean. The staff was all nice to me and on several occasions I was stopped and asked if they could help me find something. Chatting with customers who had never been taught to cook was a real highlight of the experience. I helped several who were trying to have special meals for special occasions. Over and over there were exclamations of "Really?!" I helped one couple on their first anniversary meal that they wanted to spend at home in their tiny, but expensive, apartment. I told the gentleman, that as the last item, even if they had to skimp on something else, to get flowers and if possible, roses. I am sure they had a night to remember. Checkout was a breeze and I learned that as we get older, they have come up with some ideas that will permit us to have nice meals in our older years. I will be back when I am in the area. read more

I was going to give this location 3 stars, but when I did it said that means "A-okay," and that's not how I feel about this store. Two stars means, "Meh. I've experienced better." That's the one I chose! At first I was really excited about this HEB. It looked so pretty and modern from the front, and the cafe looks cool and I hear that it's nice (though I never have checked out that part). I'm a shopper and I love to cook. I am also a long-time health nut and am very particular about what I want. Some HEBs have a lot of good choices for someone like me (such as the one at Research and Braker), but many HEBs disappointment me (including the one at MoPac and Parmer and especially the one at Lamar and Rundberg, though I must say that I prefer the Rundberg HEB to this Mueller location!) Why? Maybe I expected too much. That is what I thought at first, so before I made any rash judgements I came back a second time when I had time to really scope out the place. Ugh. Both times I got something from the bakery -- a glazed doughnut the first time (and it was by far the worst glazed doughnut I had in a very long time and tasted like it was made with potato flour), and the second trip I decided to try their Tiramisu. Another big disappointment. (First time I was ever disappointed by a Tiramisu!) Another thing I do not like about the bakery is that they don't bake ANY breads with organic -- or even non-GMO -- ingredients. I thought this was supposed to be a high-class HEB. No longer do I think that, from their bakery alone. I found the design of the store very awkward, especially the produce section. Going up and down the aisles I was looking forward to finding some really cool stuff I might use in cooking. Not one good find. Spent a lot of time in areas that should have offered at least one or two thumbs-up choices, but no. It overall seemed to be geared toward people who are happy with processed foods and unconcerned with organics, sugar content or the like. I'm someone who ENJOYS grocery shopping. But not here. And not on the way out either, where there are always long lines waiting in line. I also noticed that compared to other HEBs, there were few to no employees available to help shoppers. One thing I really like about MOST HEBs is their friendly service. Service just didn't seem to be at any real level here. The whole place needs a revamp -- except perhaps the cafe, which gets good reports. It needs to be redesigned and there should be a LOT more choices for health nuts. I mean, after all, this is Austin. I can understand fewer such choices at the Rundberg location, but even they have some good surprises for folks like me. And the bakery? Ugh. I can't believe how they screwed up two of my favorite treats! Moral to the story: I'd only recommend going there when you don't really have any other choices. read more

I think the best thing about Austin is HEB, and HEB sure loves Austin. If all the BBQ joints and music festivals closed tomorrow, there would be a lot of disgruntled Austinites wondering where they could go to drink beer and sweat. But if every HEB closed tomorrow, pretty much all of Austin would start shouting, "WTF?" It fascinates me that HEB is only in Texas, their entire presence in Dallas is three or four Central Markets, but they're still either the 11th or 12th largest private corporation in the United States. They're doing something right. You can find an HEB everyplace in Austin, each store has its own personality, and I think their store-label generic brands are the best in the business. I'll bet anything your blindfolded buttocks couldn't feel the difference between HEB's Ultra toilet paper against some national brand. Okay, let's cut to the chase: If you want to know where Austin's hip and cool areas are these days, just see where they're building the newest HEB. As much as I admire the cool new Lakeline store at Cedar Park, this new HEB at Mueller is amazing. Yeah, I could nitpick over little things, but first, tell me who the competition is. And I bet I could prove you'll get a better deal and value mixing HEB generics with name brands, rather than straight national brands from a Super Walmart or Target. Incidentally, how many different kinds of cereal do we really need? And if this is your hood, why would you go anywhere else? Now don't get me wrong - I could literally live quite nicely at the original North Lamar Central Market, and I'm looking forward to Trader Joe's Austin arrival as much as anyone else. All I'm saying is for every new root or fruit I try at CM, and for every jar of Cookie Butter I'm going to buy at TJ's, I know I'll be getting the thirty different things I have to have from my local HEB. True, it's set up a bit differently from other HEB's but one does get used to it, and after a while this is not such a big deal anymore. Having said that, what is up with the tea and coffee placement here? Mueller is the only place I know where tea and coffee are in completely separate aisles, resulting in some thoroughly confused shoppers (including me). I don't love how tight the parking is. Having put so much work into the design of the building, one would think the same level of thought would have gone into assessing the parking situation. Alas, no. During peak times it is a big mess. Be warned, and plan your visit accordingly. It's nice to have a nearby option to Hancock HEB. I like to alternate shopping between the two, just 'cause. read more

Unbelievable! I had the last pack of corn tortillas sitting out to be returned because the baggers just don't care how they pack groceries. We unpack our groceries tonight, and the same thing! We even place our groceries on the belt to make it easier and pray they get bagged using a little common sense. We, along with everyone else spend so much $ here and a little care and concern goes a long way. I called and of course was told, ' I understand '. No, Anthony, I dont think you do. I love H-E-B and I was really excited that this one opened relatively close to my office because that meant I could 1) pick up inexpensive food for dinner if I forgot to bring something and 2) I would never, ever, ever have to go back to the Wal-Mart on 183 for anything ever again. As with my Hancock H-E-B review, I'll make a pros and cons list, comparing it to my H-E-B (the one on Congress and Oltorf). PROS: 1) They have a fantastic beer and wine selection. I found Fox Barrel Blackberry Pear Cider here. Amazing. 2) The outside of the store is beautiful - definitely the nicest H-E-B in Austin. 3) I love that this store is so energy efficient. 4) Cafe Mueller was a great idea. 5) Staff are always very friendly. CONS: 1) The parking lot is rather small, so during peak times you might spend a lot of time circling, trying to find a spot. 2) Selection is small and they don't have a lot of common items, like Funyuns. I know that's random, but what grocery store doesn't have Funyuns? 3) The layout of the store isn't the greatest. 4) The area between the checkout lanes and the aisles is not that large, so it becomes difficult to navigate during peak times. 5) I don't really have a fifth con, but I don't like lists that don't end in a number divisible by 5. I guess I'm not a huge fan of the strong blast of air that hits you right as you walk in? I love this H-E-B and the cons aren't that big of an issue to me; they're moreso just minor annoyances. It's convenient for me when I'm at work and I just need to pop in and pick something up and that reason alone would warrant my love for this grocery store - all the other unique features are just an added bonus. read more

Oh hey it's new HEB. Clean and nice right now, of course. The Cafe up front has a good selection of wines by the glass and a good number of beers as well. There's a sushi bar as well as the regular HEB departments and stocking, but this place has one bonus--the wine and beer departments are big. Like Central Market big. And a lot of local brews right up front on the beer selection. There's three rows of freezer section. Gobs of meat and fish department area. A nice layout of the produce section. Basically it's a just-below-Central-Market HEB. They are getting knocked for a pet peeve, but an important one. They have "Kobe" beef in their meat department case. It may be Kobe-style or Wagyu-style, but it is not actual Kobe beef. Don't be fooled. ****ETA: as of 8/13 they do NOT have this in the butcher case anymore. This store( #69)is constantly understaffed every Thursday I come here. Every Thursday and most any other day besides the weekends you will have to bag your own groceries. That might sounds minimal to a lot of people, but I don't work for HEB. I work 5 days a week, 40 hours a day to make a living to buy goods and services. So when I come to this location and have to pay them money for those good and services and then have to constantly bag my own groceries after a long day because upper management won't properly staff, then it becomes beyond irritating. Couple that with a front-end staff that doesn't give a single shit,then you have one of the worst stores in the Austin area. The selection is good and alcohol section is the best in the state, per the wine steward. Sad that the managers here act like they care, but what they really care about is cutting employee labor cost while wearing a fake smile. Go to any other location. Even the 41st Store at the Hancock center littered with college kids is a better option. read more

HEB is really stepping it up at this newer location! I would always make the horrible drive all the way up to the one at Tech Ridge because they had more gourmet end foods but, not anymore!!!! They have a cafe in this location, a My Fit Foods Kiosk so you can get started eating healthy, a cooler full of Kambucha options (including Kambucha soda), huge variety of prepared and hot to order foods, beautiful seafood section, Olive and Antipasti salad bar (UM MY FAVORITE :)) Of course, they also have their combo loco coupons so, I got free bottled waters with my purchase of pre-made sandwiches for a road trip! They also had a large sushi selection, pre-packed sandwiches, salads, great organic section and amazing rotisserie chickens. I used to purchase them from the other HEB and then they just weren't good anymore. I am so happy that this store makes them taste like they should. Well seasoned, with the seasoning actually soaked in, crispy skin and tender juicy chicken. Personally I like to put my olive and feta or artichoke salad on top of it that I get from the fresh olive & antipasti bar. I was easy in and out and they had ample carts which is always a plus. I hate having to hunt carts down in the parking lot! The parking lot was a little on the small side and I did have a hard time finding a spot but, finally did all the way at the back of the lot. Perhaps the most gorgeous supermarket I have ever been to. Seriously well done in that regard, HEB! Lots of modern architecture, tons of natural lighting, all kinds of goodness. They seem to always have live music here playing out on the patio. I've even seen people doing Karaoke - only in Austin do you see karaoke at a supermarket. This HEB is a bit of a blend of Central Market and HEB, but it falls short of Central Market's amazing selection of goodness, so I usually have to go to both stores. As Marco C mentions, the beer selection is fantastic. And no, they didn't forget about you winos as well. Lots of booze! Unfortunately this supermarket has a few problems: 1. They don't give out tickets at the deli. It's a hot mess of people trying to figure out who is next. I'm imaging this will result in some fun fights. 2. Very few soy products. No seitan, rarely do they have good tempeh, tofu is very limited, etc. Help a vegetarian out! 3. Chobani selection is always decimated. It's like they either don't order enough or can't keep it in stock. It's always empty. 4. Parking lot is always packed, so expect to walk a lot. For any of my southeastern friends who have been blessed enough to have even stepped foot into a Publix grocery store, you'll know how skewed this review is because nothing can ever top a Publix experience. HOWEVER, this brand spankin' new HEB off of Mueller covers a lot of great bases. This warehouse sized store features cooking demos, a great craft beer selection, on-site dining, and a wine tasting demo hosted by Sue, who is what drove me to type away at this review in the first place. Its one thing to meander around a grocery store and sample their nearly perished cheeses or meats, but its certainly another to have a knowledgable wine expert on-site to allow you to sample through their vast wine collection. Sue is a friendly face and because my boyfriend and I shop here often, she now remembers our tastes and preferences. She is gracious and patient, as we have admitted our somewhat ignorance for wine, as we are craft beer drinkers. She describes the perfect dinner for the wine sample she offers and always has the best recommendation for our price point. She will walk you up and down the aisles to educate and introduce you to wines you may never have known about before. Parking is a little rough. Though I have yet to dine one site there and their baggers, cashiers and meat department employees could use a pep talk on how to smile, I think the overall experience at this particular HEB is what pulls me from the city to frequent this specific location read more

So, I was finally able to visit this location after the mad-house 'grand opening' craze. After looking at the reviews posted on here I was quite shocked at all of the low ratings. I think some of us have come to expect wayyyy to much from their local grocery store. I'm thrilled to have another grocery option on the east side of 35..you should be, too! So, now that my rant is over, let's get to the nitty gritty. Obviously this store is new. Therefore, its clean, it has nice fixtures, it smells good, the parking lot doesn't have wads of gum yet, etc etc. This store is a little smaller than most of the HEB's I frequent. They seem to have a good selection of wine/beer, a great Blooms area (flowers), fewer checkouts, no self-checkouts, an awesome closed cooler system in the frozen/meat department (no open coolers...yay for saving electricity!), and the staff were some of the friendliest I've encountered in Austin. The Bad: The store identity and branding strikes me as wanting to be "warehouse chic," concrete floors and generic signs, functional displays with very little consideration to presentation or lighting. The loading dock area is separated only by patricians that obscures the view, but simply adds to the giant food-box-shopping experience. Generally the customer service is only adequate, although occasionally you'll find a staff person with personable skills and genuineness. The bakery department seems to be lacking the most in this area, not to mention the selection and presentation is limited, boring, and uninviting. The staff are not eager to assist, nor do they seem all that happy to be there - based on my 30 or so experiences. The checkout is an unmitigated disaster and is evidence of what poor planning looks like. The store is generally undersized for the area, but only has 12 registers and about 8 "self serve" registers. The self service hell box is only monitored by one employee so when that "wait for cashier" light pops you can watch your ice cream melt. The lines on a busy day stretch down the isles like a Warsaw bread line. I recognize that folks from the area are quite fond of HEB and this store in particular-but that relationship is based primarily on the fact that, well, they need food to live and quite frankly HEBs and parent company stores own 80% of the market - so there's little real competition. This review is just for their pharmacy services: I don't know if I'm just the freak situation but I have had the worst experiences with this HEB's pharmacy over and over again. I WANTED to be a big fan with the convenience of the location and the awesome drive-thru service. However, the drive-thru is never quick. I am always asked to wait 10-15 minutes either in my car in the Texas heat or to park and "shop around inside" while my refill is still being processed. In my opinion, this defeats the purpose of a drive-thru. The online refill requests never seem to get processed accurately even though HEB Red River is very thorough and good with receiving these requests. I don't know if they are just experience new opening kinks (even though they have been opening long enough now...) or they are not aware that this is frustrating for customers who have regular interactions with their services. HEB Pharmacy has gone down hill!! Had my prescription for days and didn't even call me. When I called they said waiting on doctor for your refill. I said refill it's a new prescription what are you talking about.... Then they said you insurance doesn't cover it and I said how much is it. Then they said oh wait your insurance does cover it!! 13 hours ago This is the pharmacy I decided would be most convenient given my move to Mueller. Ill be candid , I manage mental health issues, Im in recovery and have been sober for 5 years.There is stigma behind it,Im aware but I never expected it from a pharmacy. I have gone from waiting tables and barely getting by ,to working as an Exec at an International tech Co.I've overcome alot as have we all. I have never in my life,experienced a pharmacy that is as judgemental, snyde and discriminate in their approach to customer service. There are 3 techs in particular , Shane, Rachel and Jamie (Im guessing) she hid her tag when I asked for her name. There have been multiple occassions when I have gone to pick up meds and been given snotty, moralist, comments about what Im being prescribed.Basically they are just shiity to you. The staff also love to escalate and frustrate you if you question anything and if you give pushback, will say you're an attitude problem. "Shane" , after repeatedly questioning h his condascending comments, looked down his nose at us and said, " I might suggest you look for a different pharmacy if you dont like it " as if its his decision. This has been an ongoing issue and after asking around, realized this is their culture and entertainment its all thry have. After one run in I asked to speak to a pharmacist, was ignored.Thinking I had left I overheard them making sarcastic comments aloud about my medical history and the meds I "should be on" #This is illegal I asked for the store manager and when discussing this issue, he said he would address it but I am not at all confident he will do anything but cover their asses. This will be the first of a slew of social media and journalistic campaigns to expose their behavior that they have been getting away with. My suggestion is to find another location.They act like you owe them your business. P.S Large Companies have policies to respond to complaints on review pages in a very canned way. 1. apologize 2. say it isnt their store policy 3. appeal to you "the reader" that they do everything they can to maintain a high level of blah blah blah.....
