Our first outing since this coronavirus thing!!!…read more We had wings and a steak! Very good taste for both items. The wings are smoked (but tasted like fried) and the Buffalo was really good (tasted like a Franks Red hot but creamier) and the Cajun was a dry rub but not enough rub was on the wings! Overall great place lots of space outside at the patio (the only place you can eat nowadays) they had like 20 picnic tables. Good service. I feel bad for the servers because they had to wear a mask the whole time!

Worst experience at Kentucky this past week. My friends and I have been here before and the only…read morething I've really gotten prior were the Mac & cheese and calamari which were both nothing special. We went on a Friday for dinner and drinks assuming it would be a good time. My friend and I ordered the shrimp hush puppies. We waited extremely long for our order only for the waitress to come out and tell us our food had been burned so we had to wait for a new batch. We received our shrimp hush puppies which had virtually no shrimp in them. Just tasted like fried cornmeal that we payed way too much for. On top of that, I found a shrimp tail in my hush puppies. We also ordered a side of fries. Our fries were soggy and looked old. Definitely not fresh. On top of that, we found half a potato in the fries. Not cut up or cooked or anything. Just a potato in our fries. We all also ordered whiskey sours which were not good. We've had whiskey sours before but Kentucky somehow managed to mess those up to. We also noticed that most of the bartenders and cooks and waiters were not wearing masks even though mask mandates are still in place. Our waitress wasn't really attentive and we had to wait long before getting her attention each time. Only go for the vibes but the food and drinks are not worth the price at all.

The parking lots is usually full, but there is free street parking across the road. Just drive around and see where everyone is parking. The smokehouse has large seating on the ground floor and event space on the upper. There are lots of tables and booths to seat any party size, they also take reservations. We went with 6 people and all around us were groups. The main area seems to be able to sit 50+ at least. Service staff are great, they refill and provide all the containers you'll need to get going. We ordered the Family Deal and couldn't finish. Most people have take out bags when they leave. It's that type of place. - we got the 1 lb pulled pork, 6 smoked chicken wings, beef brisket, and full rack of ribs - mac & cheese, red beans & rice, dilly coleslaw - sweet potato fries, and tater tots It took about 30+ mins for the food to come out since they needed to put everything together. We finished maybe 40% of it. The rest were another two meals at home. Over the years, the price has gone up considerably, but the quality and quantity is still a great value. Definitely bring a group and any visitors from out of town. From previous visits their pig tails, sausage are also great. My favorite is the ribs, mac & cheese, red beans & rice, and the tater tots though. Definitely will need to try their fried chicken and Back of House pizza (attached outside for takeout only) next time.

The smoked wings are our favorite as well as the Mac and cheese! The platters are huge and can feed a whole family. The brisket sandwich is also very tender and so much food. The only downside is the prices have gone up a lot over the years so it's definitely a spot for special occasions.

Awesome food and service. Was given a last minute reservation. Great time as usual! Rave reviews…read morefor all meals.

Argh. I have many feelings about The Bauer Kitchen…read more After a friend's wedding the night before, my partner and I went looking for a hearty brunch spot in KW to celebrate her early birthday. The Bauer Kitchen came up in my search thanks to its high ratings from locals and visitors alike (it's also featured on the Kitchener-Waterloo Cafe Passport). It was a rainy day, and we were lucky to find free parking nearby. Inside, the decor is rustic and industrial. It feels well established, though with a touch of sterility. Our server greeted us with warmth and attentiveness, which quickly made me forget about the decor. We both ordered the Champignon Benedict, since the combination of tomato salsa, basil pesto hollandaise, and portobello sounded unreal. I upgraded my side to the Parmesan truffle fries. The food took a while to arrive, but I assumed that meant everything was being made to order. It came with homemade ketchup and truffle aioli, both excellent. The ketchup was a study in equilibrium, bright with tang, rounded with sweetness, a faithful conduit for the very essence of the tomato it came from - almost spiritual. The fries were a pleasure as well, and so were the smashed potatoes, which arrived beautifully crisp. My only wish is that they'd been cut smaller: more golden crust, less unseasoned potato at the center. Now for the disappointing parts: the eggs on both Benedicts were hard-boiled. There were no running yolks, just fully cooked eggs sitting on the biscuit. And while the tomato salsa and basil hollandaise tasted great, the dish was strangely cold, or at best lukewarm. We mentioned it to our server, who agreed the eggs shouldn't have been hard-boiled, and the dishes went back to the kitchen. They returned shortly after, but the problems were the same: hard-boiled eggs and lukewarm food. The GM then came out to apologize and told us the meal was on the house, which we really appreciated. My theory is that much of the food is prepped in advance and only assembled when ordered (the waffles in my photo looked the same way). That would explain why the flavours, from the ketchup to the sauces to the salsa, are consistently good, while anything that depends on temperature control, like a poached egg, is easily ruined. It would also explain why the food never arrives piping hot. If that's the case, I'd strongly encourage The Bauer Kitchen to rethink its kitchen model. To end on a high note, our sweet server asked us to wait because they had a birthday treat for my partner: a lovely carrot cake that fully redeemed the experience. We're so thankful to our server and the GM, whatever the state of the food. We'll definitely be back to give The Bauer Kitchen another shot because of them. Food was 1.5 out of 5 in our visit while the service was absolutely 10 out of 5!!
