I would not recommend the chicken -- it's dry and chewy; however, the lamb gyro is quite good, and the gyro sandwich, stuffed with yogurt sauce, onions and meat, is a bloated treat. I've been going here for years and will continue but be careful of the take out. My last 2 take out orders were missing items. The first time I didn't complain but tonight i did and the kids response on the phone for the missing item was "that's unfortunate". That's an unacceptable response in my opinion. Eating in is best. It's a casual and friendly restaurant. The fried calamari appetizer is a must. It is bursting with flavor, and crunchy on the outside, while soft on the inside. The marinara sauce for the fried calamari is very tasty as well. The gyro sandwich is pretty big with lots of meat. First off the food is out of this world, let's face it- you wouldn't expect much from a place by the name of "Gyro World". All of their meats are fresh, cooked and seasoned PERFECTLY and beyond delicious. Been there a handful of times now and each time it's just as amazing as the time prior. Now the service- quite the hospitality for the small joint that it is. In particular there is one server with a full sleeve tattoo (never got his name) that was beyond helpful and made my family feel extremely taken care of on our previous visit. Since each time we've visited he has served our table- when he saw us waiting longer than usual he was already on top of our drink orders and asked if we wanted the usual since he could tell we were hungry and there were a few kids. Once the table was ready for us, our drinks were down in a second with pita and tzitziki sauce. The food was out within 7 minutes. So appreciative of the fact that he went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. It's never fun to be hangry and thankfully enough he was empathetic and understanding to do his absolute best to make sure we felt as comfortable as possible. Thanks dude! read more

Although I haven't had much experience with Greek food, this place serves up some awesome gyros. Whenever we have a large party coming over to my house or we're going to a potluck with a large amount of people, we always get the gyro platter for 2. And believe me, that platter has so much meat that it would be overwhelmingly too much for only two people. We almost always have leftovers. The gyro meat is so good. Even though it was greasy, it was so flavorful and scrumptious. The sausages are PERFECT. They're so crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The platter also has hamburgers which are okay with a little twist to it (they add spices in it). The shish kebabas are pretty good. The pita bread is very delicious as well. CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT THE SOUR CREAM FOR A MOMENT? Because oh my god, it's like my favorite sour cream EVER. The sour cream is so creamy and tastes a little like plain yogurt. There's a very particular reason to giving Gyro World 1 star. Given that there's so much competition around the neighborhood, they should really reconsider their level of service and hospitality. I had to wait about 30 minutes for a simple chicken souvlaki pita sandwich. Telling me it takes over 30 minutes to "make sure the chicken cooks through" is a sorry excuse for poor time management and chef skills. On top of that, their front of house was not the brightest nor the most courteous either. If anyone is considering to come here, it's not worth it. You rather take a few more minutes to head down Northern Blvd to King Souvlaki who has much better service, much better tasting food and cheaper prices . read more

It's Greek fast food with a taverna look & feel. Don't expect to get good service from their young staff, but it has a large menu selection and the food is very good. They do have a gyro selection that is homemade (not frozen), so go with that. It's also hard to find parking. read more

Love, Love, Love Gyro World. We're from Astoria Queens & moved to Long Island 11 yrs ago. Growing up in Astoria the food on Long Island just doesn't cut it. When we want Souvlaki, Gyro & Tzaziki -Gyro World is our go to Greek place. We've been across the street to Fontina years back, but once we tried GW we never went back. We sometimes start with the eggplant salad & pita, then get gyro platters, chicken or pork souvlaki platters with lemon potatoes or French fries. Tzaziki is excellent. We are never disappointed. Gyro World is delicious, serving up generous portions and the price point won't break the bank. Win/Win! read more

Came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. This place was packed with people but we were seated in less than 10 minutes. This was my first time trying this place and it was sooo good. We ordered the platter with 2 combos- the gyro beef and lamb and the grilled chicken. It comes with two sides- we opted for rice and salad. We also ordered an order of their fries. The fries was so delicious. For around 5-6 bucks, you get a good amount of fries and not to mention it tastes so fresh too. The platter was delicious! The beef and lamb gyro and the grilled chicken were all really well seasoned! Thank goodness we ordered to share because the portion size was worth it for the price! A friend suggested. If you like gryos, this is the place to get some. They don't serve all lamb gryos, but have a beef/lamb combo as well as pork gyro. I heard the northern boulevard location was the original spot. I was excited to try it, and see where it all began. Bad choice.I invited my brother whose from out of town based off of my previous experience in astoria. We get there and place our orders. The calamari appetizer came out in decent timing, it was good but we were very hungry and our gyros took forever to come out. I could see the waiter telling the cook numerous times about our order.They hadn't even started cooking it!!? The waiter would just pass by and not say anything to us. Yet everyone seated after us kept getting attended, their food brought to them and the waiter kept high fiving them and chit chatting with them. Well order finally came the food was good but never got my side that we ordered. I Didn't even bother telling the waiter to bring it out. 1. Because he never came to check up on us. And 2. This is my second review. I want to start by saying I love gyro worlds food. The owner and management seem to take great pride in their restaurant however they have some staff members that are absolutely horrible. I placed an order over the phone and the girl who answered seemed very distracted and annoyed to take the order. When the order arrived it was cold and not correct. I decided to call to let management know. I called and the manager was so sweet and placed a credit in my acct for the items that were incorrect to be applied for a future order. I ordered a few days later with a friend. As I went to place the order over the phone my friend proceeds to wish me luck as she refuses to call that place because she hates the staff who answers the phone. Sure enough the girl who answers is very rude condescending and awful to deal with. She placed me on hold 6 times!! She finally completes the order and I ask can I please have the platter instead of just adding fries to one of the sandwiches as it will include a soup and the platter comes out to only a dollar more. She said well your sandwich is ready so no. I said include the soup and charge me the additional amount since she didn't charge me yet. She said no if you want I will charge you the full price of the soup. I said no thank you forget the soup. I was shocked. She was rude very rude ma'am too bad! Ma'am this and maam that in the most sarcastic and rude tone. The food arrives 40 minutes later. Mind you I live fairly close by and she said my food was done while I was on the phone placing the order ‍. Well the food was correct and it was good just much smaller portions then I've recurved normally however still very filling. I love their food and management. I only wish the rest of the staff took as much pride in their job. I really loved this place! I went with some friends on a warm sunny day, they had the doors open and sun shining through and it temporarily felt like we weren't sitting feet away from a busy street. The food was amazing. I got the chicken souvlaki and it was cooked perfectly. We also ordered the stuffed grape leaves for an appetizer which were very tasty. Their tzatziki was probably the best I've ever had as well. Our waitress was very sweet and patient with us, considering a lot of the menu consisted of Greek terms which we didn't understand. She answered any questions we had and made sure we were ok with everything when our food arrived. Portion size was also a very good amount.
