I've been going here for a while on Sunday with a group of about 10 people for lunch. I gotta admit....personally I'm not a fan of Greek food but they make these chicken fingers and they are sublime!!! Everyone else usually orders gyros, of course. One person in our group always gets there pizza and she said that it is off the charts amazing, same with the ice coffee. The prices have been slow gently raising almost every month which is.....meh. But the prices are still not OUTRAGEOUS!!! Staff is super friendly!! Let's say there's a baseball game going on and you wanna watch while you eat. Pleasantly surprising. Having grown up going to Fontana just a couple blocks away, I've become pretty loyal to my favorite gyro-serving spoon. Then I saw the Gyro World reviews and figured I'd try the place out (and most likely be assured I was in fact still going to the best local place around.) I'm sad to say I was wrong. The "World Plate for 2" (~$21) was pretty great. It offers better gyro meat than Fontana's, and includes both chicken and steak souvlaki skewers, the Bifteki was great and the Loukaniko (which I'd never tried before) was also pretty good. Also notable: the waitresses were very friendly and the place is clean and bright. GW is even more authentically greek in their menu than expected. Next time you're looking for a non-high-end greek meal, Gyro World is well worth the trip. read more

This is more accurately a 2.5. Their service is excellent - the staff there was really nice. They greeted us as soon as we walked in and we got to sit wherever we wanted. They're open until midnight, which was perfect after watching a movie. I ordered a vegetarian wrap without the cheese. The description said there was grilled eggplant, peppers, lettuce, and tomatoes. But I got it and saw no eggplant...so just lettuce, peppers, and tomatoes. WTF? I could've made that myself at home with no effort. I asked someone about the eggplant, and he said, "no, there's no eggplant in the wrap". I left it as it was but the fact that they charged $8.95 for such an underwhelming, unspectacular, generic salad, sad excuse for a wrap. That aside, everything was great. The eggplant dip was really good. My boyfriend liked his chicken souvlaki platter. The side of rice I got wasn't dry, and the lemon potatoes had a hint of crisp. Also, olive oil is always better than butter, so they win points on that. I'm willing to give this place another shot, but please fix your wrap. read more

3.5 stars. The "Gyro World Platter for two" is more like "Gyro World Platter for four with leftovers." The tray was huge! It was loaded with lamb, chicken, and beef in all shapes and sizes. There were fries on the bottom but they were cold and soggy, so that was disappointing. Everything else tasted fine, but I would still prefer Avli. Also, I judge a Greek place by their pita and tzatziki, and Avli is still first place in my book. I would still stop by to eat here though. Next time, I'll try the lemon potatoes. read more

Best tzatziki sauce ! Love lamb and beef platters. I love everything about Gyro World from the music, to the decor, to the people to the food. I always get the lamb and beef platter with lemon potatoes, greek chicken lemon soup and tzatiziki sauce with pita. The meat here is so tender, well done, tasty and yummy!!! They also have blue moon, mythos and a good selection of beers. I gotta say, I was disappointed. We got there and the line was out the door. The restaurant has a great hustle and bustle feel. Similar to Fontana. I was thinking, ok this place look like it is worth the wait. We finally got a table, which was not too long, and I had to try beef-lamb gyro platter with lemon potatoes. My wife got chickn souvlaki platter with rice. We had nice taste test between the two of us. The food was good but not great. Decent. Feta was fresh, pita toasted nicely and everything was good but it didn't beat Fontana. Lemon potatoes are better at Fontana. So I know what to stick with when I'm around that area. I rarely post 1 star reviews, and often give restaurants another chance at some point but I really would not come back here again. I wish I had taken a photo... We had ordered chicken wings as an appetizer to eat before our sandwiches. The wings came... And they looked delicious. Perfectly brown and crispy looking on the outside. I bit into one. Tasted pretty good. As I rotated the wing to take another bite, I saw that the place I had bit looked a little bloody. I wasn't alarmed at first... Chickens have veins too, I knew that as much. But upon closer inspection, saw that the meat inside was still rubbery and translucent.. Not good. The next part was what made me not come back however. Took us 10 minutes to hail down a waitress. Not even ours. Just someone. Anyone. Our waitress when she got to our table, saw the bloody chicken, didn't say anything else except "Oh. Hold on." Manager comes sauntering over. Young guy, maybe too young to be managing the restauant... because the only thing I remember from our conversation with the chicken was that he thinks I'm not going to die because he's been in the food industry a long time and has a background in medicine. No apologies, just kept asking whether I wanted a new batch of wings, or it taken off my bill. Um, wow. With that being said, the sandwiches (gyro and chicken souvlaki) were actually pretty tasty. The check though took 15 minutes to bring, 15 minutes to get my card back. Yikes. We were right by the cashier too. I went there last night for take out, The guy at the counter was rude from the start. I tried to be nice, smile and diffuse whatever was going on with him, but there was a chip on his shoulder for whatever reason and he continued to be very rude towards me. I felt very uneasy with having the same person handle my food, I watched him carefully after placing my order. Unfortunately, I did notice he put his fingers in his nose after handling my food, which definitely disgusted me for the next person, especially because he did not wash his hands, continued to handle the money then go back to the food. Yuk! To be clear everyone else there was super friendly, and were working very hard to keep a pleasant atmosphere, but one bad apple can spoil the bunch! When I did get the food home, the food was decent but, definitely not worth the price or the unpleasant experience. I usually order from Fontana's, in comparison, their food is far better and for less money, you get more food. If you are hankering for large portions of greek food this is the place. Diner style type of ambiance but the service is quick and the food is delicious. Go for the greek salad which has ample amounts of feta and olive leaf wraps. The gyro wrap is also great. Nicely flavored tziki sauce with a perfectly cooked gyro lamb meat with all the fresh veggies. The chicken patty with fries is also great. A well season chicken patty and wonderful fries. Fried up nicely and soft on the inside. Also had the gyro plate which had perfectly cooked lamb and beef gyro with fries and a salad. All were wonderful items. Mmm! Delicious! The people were right, this is the place to go! I ordered a Gyro/Befteki Sandwich, I may have liked the Befteki more- it was so MmmM! The meld of the sauces and juices of the meats. Yummm. We also ordered a Gyro/Lamb Souvlaki Sandwich, this was strange. It came with only Gyro and Souvlaki. No lettuce, nothing, just the meat wrapped in the Pita. Eh? Need to drop it a star for this one. They also confused our order with someone else's and gave us a free soda but we gave it back. Would have kept it had I known one of the sandwiches had nothing but meat in it. Came back again for the World Platter (Mixed Meats) This is such steal! Their food is pretty standard, I would stick to the gyros and souvlaki options as their pizza isn't so great.. but that's fine for a place called "gyro world" - what do you expect? This is my favorite spot for gyro in NYC area. I live in Manhattan and we specifically make the drive to Queens to eat here when we are having the craving. The portions are enormous so order wisely. The platters are excellent. My favorite is the Greek salad with gyro on top. ( I like the beef and lamb gyro the best. I'm not as big of a fan of the pork gyro). The lemon potatoes are near perfection. I tried some onion rings which were a big of a disappointment. They were frozen and just thrown in the deeply fryer. I can't find one flaw with this restaurant. We are somewhat regulars at this place, coming here 1-2 a month. The waitress knows us and greets us every time we come. The service is very friendly and trained. It is a really casual restaurant, with a Greek feel. They have a huge wall saying Enjoy Your Meal in 30+ languages. The food is really cheap and fresh and delicious. The gyros are really delicious. The avgolemono soup is very tangy, but really yummy. The Greek Salad has so many ingredients, like stuffed grape leaves, so the salad is so amazing. Seriously, wtf!? How did this place get such high ratings? The staff was nice and attentive. They prices weren't too high...since you do get good portions. But I'm all about the food. I ordered a gyro and some onion rings and my fiance ordered a couple of slices of cheese pizza. The pizza was okay, but a little bit on the soft/soggy side, especially for a NYC joint. Disappointed my fiance, who is a native of this area. The gyro was large. A lot of meat, a lot of onions and I think a whole tomato cut into slices. But the pita tasted...stale, the gyro meat was pretty bland and was VERY DRY (which is a huge thing for me with gyros) and the tzatziki sauce was watery. I think half of the sauce dripped out of my sandwich when I first bit into it. For a place called Gyro World, I expect halfway decent gyros. This was not acceptable at all. read more

I love this place, it never disappoints. More often then not this is my choice for when I am working, the food is quick and the portions are good. Every person I bring here agrees the food is amazing. When I am home I often order the Gyro Plater for two, it has all my favorites and comes in a huge tray. Me and my husband both get about two dinners and lunch from just this one tray. Just ask for a few extra pitas. It also comes with a huge portion of their amazing tzatiki sauce. When we asked if it could be wiped clean, the girl asked in a rude, condescending way if we needed a broom too. I ordered a chicken souvlaki platter with a salad and a side of French fries. The chicken was poorly marinated, not tender and tasted like the bottom of a cooking grill. The service was poor. Our waitress did not inform us when the checks were closed for the evening and refused to serve us another drink before heading out. This is the first time i've ever really had a gyro, and i really enjoyed it. I order the greek gyro, open sandwich which the server told me is their traditional gyro. So i was expecting it to be all wrapped up, kinda like a burrito, but it was not. Nonetheless it was still delicious, the pork was so juicy and the pita bread was perfect. The white sauce that they have with it was amazing. I could eat this everyday. My boyfriend got the beef and lamb gyro closed sandwich, which is the one that came out looking like a burrito. At Gyro World it seems that whoever prepares their food either has no sense of taste or has never tasted a souvlaki sandwich that is actually good. After co-workers ordered from here last week, I knew I would be trying it very soon. We ordered take-out. I initially asked for the "gyro plate for two" which would have been $20.95 but I was told it only came with pita and taziki. So, instead I opted for 2 Gyro plates which each came with pita, taziki, French fries and a salad, all for $10.50 each. .. To me, that was strange. We waited for over an hour so I called to check in and was apologized to and told the guy would be here shortly. The doorbell rang a few minutes later. The food was definitely worth the wait! The Gyro was perfectly seasoned, not took greasy and tender. The pita was nice and warm which I of course dipped in the light, refreshing taziki sauce. The salad it came with was a very good size and had olives, tomato, onion, grape leaf and feta. The only complaint Ihad were the soggy French fries. They had decent flavor but it was a shame how mushy they were. But, I think this will be my new Gyro take out place! read more
