Let me start off by saying I have been this restaurant many times over the years and always liked it but today was the first time I went there in about 3 years. My wife and I were looking for a place to grab a quick bite, so we stopped in. I ordered a gyro platter, and my wife ordered a burger deluxe. First the bill came to $50 which I thought was a lot, but the way things are today I figured it was ok. We waited about 45 minutes for our food to come out and I was about to say forget it and get my money back after trying to eat it leaving would have been a better option. Most days, when you walk in, you're greeted by the owner himself or the owner's son. Very nice people. Food is delicious, service is always friendly and prompt and the prices are very fair. They have something there for everyone. One night, I came with a group of 5 and we shared The Gyro World Plate for 2 (can feed up to 4 people, if not more). It's a huge platter of meats: Chicken and beef gyro, pork souvlaki, chicken bifteki, and chicken souvlaki. It's served with a plate of pita with tzatziki sauce on the side. The food is really good here. I really enjoy the combo platters. Unfortunately the parking situation can get tricky: When it's busy, there's limited meter parking or residential spots. The worst are the inconsiderate patrons that double park blocking a narrow street or illegal blocking the local residents' driveways making it difficult for the rest of us. Went back for the large gyro world plate and I'm kinda disappointed that they no longer serve the plate with french fries underneath. How many of you have kids and they like their fries? Well, when they served it, my son was digging below searching for the fries and none were to be found. I asked the server and he said they no longer include fries with the gyro world plate anymore. Two thumbs down! Beneath the platter is now pita. Which isn't bad but come on, the platter already came with the pita before and plus the fries! The fries use to soak in all of the juices from all of the variety of meats. My first review of the gyro world plate was that they gave too little fries with it then, now they completely got rid of it! If the bottom of the plate had a solid two handful of fries placed below of all of that meat, it would be hands down the best bang for your buck meal you could get in this entire neighborhood. Boyfriend got the chicken souvlaki in gyro and he said the chicken wasn't seasoned enough but I took a bit and wow that is a tender chicken . This phrase has now been embedded in my head, "get the gyro sandwich and not the platter." My cousin probably repeated this over 10 times while we were eating. My cousin is leaving for Europe for a month tomorrow and so it was nice to have dinner with him, even if it was a completely random decision and very impromptu. Well, this place really had nothing for me to eat. I had the veggie wrap minus the haloumi cheese. My cousin initially wanted the gyro sandwich but then changed his mind and got the gyro platter. We were going to share the fries. The platter also comes with soup or salad. The soup arrives with one lonely pita. We had no idea what to do with the pita. I mean seriously, one little pita? Weird. Next, our food arrives. But my cousin's gyro platter was a lot of cut-up gyro meat, some fries, and no pita. Weird. They don't serve you pita with the gyro platter. My cousin had to ask for them to bring out pita bread and yes once again, they brought out one lonely pita bread. Like really? I have nothing to complain about. You can't really go wrong with a veggie wrap, nice grilled eggplant with tasty roasted red peppers on a bed of lettuce and tomato all wrapped in a huge pita. Luckily, a pharm rep catered a lunch from Gyro World. Their Greek salad is amazing (real feta with herbs not processed tasting ewww), grape leaves (yum), and salty ass olives. I love salty ass olives. If I could, I'd spit the pit out across the room so I could eat them faster but I'm a lady. They put fries below all of their dishes which makes the fries succulent and I didn't know that fries could taste any better than they already did. I've placed "to go" orders from here a few times already and all I gotta say is- the food is fantastic! The staff always seems very pleasant and I love the catchy tee shirts they all wear lol I'd like to go one night and actually sit down to eat in here. It's a pretty big place with plenty of tables and they are open til midnight most days of the week which is good for people like me who are night owls. They have another location in Ridgewood - personally I think they should have more locations throughout NYC! However, the young man at the counter just cannot seem to communicate well enough to understand my orders. I clearly asked for a Gyro with french fries and a drink and after getting my order home I see he did not even get me my french fries. I feel a little badly because even the first time I spoke to him I had trouble understanding him as did he me. But you can understand that it's disappointing when you pay for your order and take it home and find that your side dish is missing. This is still a great treat anytime I pass through northern queens I will surely continue to detour to Gyro World. The best, bar none! read more

really wanted to like this place..but the food was very disappointing We got the gyro platter with rice and the spinach pie platter with french fries. the gyro tasted too...lambish...much stronger than the gyro I usually eat..and it wasn't flavor very nice..kind of bland..and just the taste of lamb....not good the rice was bland and overcooked The spinach pie was dried, flavorless and didn't have much spinach inside and the french fries were super dried and tasted powdery..worse french fries ever The waitress was very nice tho, and the portion was huge..but quality of food just wasn't there.. dont think will ever return again read more

Wandered here for an early dinner tonight-- really pleasant since the weather was gorgeous and they opened the floor-to-ceiling windows. This area has a bunch of Greek/Mediterranean restaurants, but this is probably one of the cheapest! The name "Gyro World" makes it sound like a dump, but it's a pretty cute restaurant, sort of diner-style. It stayed pretty crowded all evening with groups going in and out constantly. The waitstaff was friendly. Our party of three shared a combo platter plus one side order of calamari. The "side order" was the hugest order of calamari I've ever seen. Chicken souvlaki was delicious and juicy, and the fries were great. The pork seiftalia was also good, but crazy salty. All in all, it came out to about $30, tip included. Not bad, will be back! I went to Gyro World on Saturday April 28, 2018 because I had a taste for Greek Salad and Gyro meat. I've been here a few times in the past but I didn't Yelp back then. Interior: The restaurant is not huge but it seats a good amount of people- I would say about 100 people. In the summer when it's warm they utilize the sidewalk and have tables out there. The tables are nicely spaced from each other so you're not bumping into other tables as you get in or leave or go to the bathroom. The decor is simple and the kitchen is viable depending on where you're seated. Food: Delicious!! On this last visit I had the meat platter which was about $30. There is a lot of meat which the load on top of Pita and French fries. I didn't eat the fries or pita so I can't speak to it but I'm sure it was good everyone else was woofing down theirs. The Greek salad was very good but it had way too many tomatoes and red onions. Also if you want extra feta note it's a $1.95 charge!! I overlooked that and felt "sticker shock" when I saw the bill! It would have been nice if the server had inquired if I knew or was aware of the charge for the feta. However, I know the onus is on me to read menus carefully and ask questions... but what's Yelp if someone isn't griping about something?! Oh yeah- the lemon potatoes are so yummy!! Drooling thinking about them. Service: They are very fast here so you will have your food way before you have an awkward pause in your conversation as you're getting hangry. Cost: it's not the cheapest Greek food but it's reasonably priced- see receipt photo and menus posted. My go-to's have always been: - Stuffed Grape Leaves ($6.95): There are 10 fat pieces in there, enough to get you full especially since it also comes with a salad consisting of diced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and a lemon to spritz it all before you dig in. So good, especially with their tzatziki sauce. If you want extra tzatziki, it's a $1 for small and $2.95 for a large. Go with a large if you loveeee tzatziki like I do and like to drench it with everything! - Chicken or Gyro Platter ($14.95): Comes with pita and tzatziki on the side, you can choose your choice of french fries, lemon potatoes or rice and a choice of salad or soup. I almost always choose fries, love how they cut and fry them and a side of soup. Had their Greek lemon rice and chicken soup a few times, def a fan. Their pita is warm and obv even better when dipped in tzatziki. - Gyro (beef and lamb) Sandwich ($8.95): Besides the beef and lamb, they put in tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki, the three basic ingredients you'll find in all their dishes. Both their sandwich and platter options are good imo, only depends on how hungry you are since the portion on the platters are significantly larger than their sandwiches. The only side note to this is that it can get a little messy since they stuff it and can spill from the sides. No biggie, just go wash your hand afterwards. - Greek Salad ($8.95): They give you a big block of goat cheese on top with the standard ingredients that go in a typical Greek salad. Great meal to order if you want something healthy. I usually order to go, just easier that way to spread it all out on your dining table and eat while watching Netflix, nahmean. You can call them, give them your oder and your name and go pick it up after 10-20 minutes. Easy breezy. It can get busy in there depend on the time of day, usually during the weekend evenings. But you never have to wait too long to grab a table. It's spacious inside with fast service and good food. Did I mention their massive portions? So glad to have a go-to spot for those days when I'm craving the stuffed grape leaves and/or a gyro. My only complaint is that I wish they didn't charge extra for their tzatziki. But, ohhhh whales. The food here was great, the only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because the lemon potatoes were not lemon but regular potatoes. My friend who is a regular told me the potatoes are usually really good so I will have to try it again. I had the chicken souvlaki which came with a tasty Greek salad. The chicken was really juicy and well seasoned, the pita bread was warm and fresh. My favorite part was their home made tzatziki sauce it was one of the best I ever had. I highly recommend the food here! However, if you are looking to dine in during the summer, just be aware that they do not turn on the air conditioning. I came here for the first time in 90 degree weather and they only had the front doors open for air. People in our party were complaining about the heat , as we were all pretty much sweating waiting for our food. One person asked to speak with the manager and he told us "sorry the air conditioning is broken" and she said back "wow really? You said that last year."
