Here I was, a little lost after getting off the Q train. Not only is it taking me longer to get home, but now I'm getting hungry. So I go to Yelp to search for the best low-$ food option in the area and I find this gem. SO glad I got lost! First off, let me say that I've had quite the few lamb and chicken gyro over rice (or pita) combos from halal carts in Brooklyn and Manhattan; and I can say unequivocally that this brick and mortar restaurant is better than them all. To start, their basmati rice is unparalleled for a halal gyro joint. No cart's rice is ever this fluffy, moist, or fragrant. Also, they have way more choices for vegetable toppings than any cart and they're so much fresher. The best unique topping is the tomato, cucumber, white onion, and cilantro mix. The cilantro is key and really makes everything else pop. Regarding the lamb and sauces (i.e. white, hot, BBQ, etc...), I can't honestly say they're better than any of the best halal gyro carts. But that chicken. OMG, THAT CHICKEN! Let me tell you a secret: no gyro cart or no-frills gyro restaurant I've ever eaten at cooks their chicken this flavorful. The first big difference is they cook it shawarma-style, the same rotisserie way that lamb gyro meat is made. Many gyro places just grill their chicken barbecue-style or on the flattop. The next big difference is the owner's secret recipe, and it lies in whatever the chicken has been marinating in before being cooked on the rotisserie spit. Folks, I challenge you to find a more juicy, flavorful chicken at any cart or no-frills gyro restaurant (you won't find it). So, next time I come back, it will no longer be as a lost soul, wandering the streets of Flatbush trying to get home; it'll be a direct route to the best $7 chicken-over-rice in the history of NYC halal joints!!! read more

I have been eating here for a while and consider them one of the cleaner gyro spots in the area. I usually get the salmon over rice with a grilled pita. The salmon is always juicy and never fatty, and the salad ingredients are always fresh. I also really like their Philly cheesesteak hoggie. It's very flavorful and has a really good sauce in it. I used to be super partial to the lamb gyro on pita but then I discovered the chicken tikka and haven't been able to switch back. It's incredible. SO GOOD. Gyro Hut is pretty similar to the nearby Gyro King in terms of price and taste and it's a smaller restaurant, but there is no credit card minimum at Gyro Hut. (Good for people like me who prefer to use card!) Their meat is amazing. I always get the combo platter. The rice is also very delicious. Prices are reasonable. I also like how they let me add any sauce, which are all banging. I used to get my gyros from Jackson Heights from Sammy's halal cart back in the day. I've tried different ones in Brooklyn..and not going to say names but the other one nearby this place--across the street is subpar to this place. I prefer Gyro Hut's gyros because their chicken and meat is a lot more flavorful. Their meat is juicier and when added with the fresh selection of salad and veggies in my wrap, it tastes like a real gyro. This place Is my second go to right after gyro king. The guys are friendly. The food is fresh and good. Also priced well for the portions you get with a fresh salad. It's upscale street meat, but with options like: Kofta, salmom, Tika(lamb and chicken) tilapia and the usual standby mixed grill over rice and salad. I also don't know what one reviewer was complaining about "over seasoned". It's middle eastern food with spices. Spices that are full of flavor and aroma! If you want bland food don't come here. I loooove Gyro Hut's salad greens, you know the one they put on the top left and right corners of the styrofoam box with your order of [meat over rice] . The chicken over rice is really delicious but its got nothing on the salad they offer. The salad is fresh and compared to the rice isn't as heavy. I tend to get really sick eating chicken over rice because of how heavy the food is but I omit the rice and instead order the salad and I've got yourself a pretty delicious and clean feeling dinner. This place is my go to spot during a late night dinner. The chicken is so flavored and filling. My boyfriend always gets the falafel platter which he highly recommends, it has the perfect crisp and soft inside. The only complain I'd have is the tomatoes which always seem so mushy to me so I avoid that now. Definitely recommend this spot! 9/10!! read more

Allow me to say this...I have been loving their lamb gyro, over salad, no rice, all sauces, for more than five years! I am not in NY full time! I am in NY for the summer, Atlanta for the winter, Florida for periods in between, and an occasional jaunt to CA. ( TERRIFIED of earthquakes!) when I am home, I get it as often as possible.
