I hadn't eaten at Guthrie's in awhile. This was the first time at this location. This is a drive through only location, so I didn't go inside. I ordered 4 finger snack combo with fries and a drink. My chicken was cooked fresh and was hot when it was received. However, they dried it out unfortunately so it was a little tough eating it. The lady at the window was very friendly which was greatly appreciated. I also appreciate that this is an Alabama based business that's still around after several decades. Overall, it was a decent meal that I would return for. I happen to favor chicken fingers. A lot! Hopefully next time the fingers will not be overcooked. read more

I'm still newish to Birmingham and just now trying Guthrie's. I went shortly after they opened at 11. Their menu is limited but sometimes simple is best. Too many options can feel overwhelming. I was greeted by Tierra. When I told her that it was my first time trying Guthrie's, she smiled and confidently said "you'll be back!" When I tried my food once I got home... Guthries always reminds me of college days when the boxes were $6! We went for an after Christmas lunch and enjoyed a five finger box. Food was very good and yummy! My favorite is always the toast! The tea is also one of my favorites in the city. This is a newer location and they get it right with the quick service and fresh food. read more

I've always enjoyed Guthrie's. The chicken is consistently good, and the fries are solid too. Overall, the food is pretty reliable and satisfying. The only downside is that the prices feel a little on the high side for what you get. The biggest issue for me, though, is the change they made to the toast. The original Texas toast was one of the best parts of the meal, and the new version just doesn't compare! It's honestly pretty disappointing. I really wish they would go back to the original. Because of that change, I have to give Guthrie's 3 stars. If they brought back the old toast, it would easily rate higher. read more

I used to love this Guthrie's. Very similar to Zaxby's but cheaper. Then, I guess they got a new manager or something, b/c the store got remodeled and they jacked up the prices. The chicken sandwich went from 4.99 to 6.99 so I stopped going. Well, I just went there again for the first time in about a year and the bun was stale and they forgot my hot sauce. I had high hopes for this place. It looked very similar to " raising canes". It's quite the same in what they offer. Chicken tenders, fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and their famous sauce. I got the four piece dinner and subbed the coleslaw for extra fries. The chicken had a bit more spice than canes. The chicken was very good. The fries were nothing special. I did not like the toast. I want to preface that I love Guthrie's! It is a go-to every time I am close to one. My experience at the Guthrie's in Birmingham/Homewood was not a pleasant one. I first ordered and thoroughly described my order (large drinks, with several chicken boxes but one of them was slightly different). After Cashier 200 repeated back my order, I realized she had missed one of the boxes so I quickly repeated my order again. She was very short and seemed to be aggressive in her response. Upon arriving at the window, I was handed 3 medium drinks and 3 chicken boxes. While she got the count of boxes right, she did not honor the extra sauce request I had. Additionally, when I mentioned I had ordered large drinks and wanted to make sure she only charged me for the medium, she looked at me and handed me back my receipt. She did not say anything further other than providing an unkind look. I know mistakes happen, especially in a fast-paced drive thru situation, however, I am inclined to leave this review based on the poor customer service and employee attitude. I am hopeful that a manager receives this and is able to guide the employee on a more positive customer experience. read more

I usually visit during the week day around lunch. This location always has fresh/hot food and friendly staff.

My wife picked up 2 chicken tender boxes, we have stopped at this shop for the last 3 yrs or so, and when we first started going the chicken tenders were big and well, tender at an affordable price. Not so much the last couple of times we've stopped. The tenders have gotten to be about half the size they used to be and half of those are even smaller fat and breading "tenders". They're tough and chewy with little actual chicken. The people working the window has gotten more rude and unappealing. It takes longer at the window to get these overpriced pieces of "chicken". There have been times when they have run out of coleslaw and they said nothing about it missing. Not sure I'll go back to this place, will try another shop, but if its the same overpriced tough chicken, there are too many places to get meaty tenders. read more

I went to Guthrie's and got the chicken sandwich, fries, sweet tea, and lots of Guthrie's signature sauce, buffalo, and ranch sauce. It was so good! The first time I had Guthrie's was in Auburn and never realized we had one so close to campus. The chicken is always cooked so well and the sauces never miss. The workers are so nice and the drive thru is relatively quick even if there is quite a line. There are not any COVID-19 restrictions now. I will definitely be going again soon because the service and food are both amazing! I highly recommend this :)))) read more

Meh. Tried Guthrie's for the first time. The sauces are tasty. My fries were soggy, but I liked them. I am a weirdo that actually likes soft french fries. The chicken tenders and coleslaw are fine. Nothing that changed my world. Honestly, I was disappointed because so many people have raved about Guthrie's. I found the chicken tenders to be bland. It just tasted fried. That was it. No distinctive flavor or seasonings. I tasted fried and salt. The coleslaw was bland also. If that is your kind of food, then you will love this place. Guthries has good chicken fingers. BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THIS LOCATION IS THE WORST I'VE EXPERIENCED IN A LONG TIME. Food comes with no attention to detail topped with an extra helping of really bad attitude from the employees! Here's what happened to us: Last night we ordered a bucket of 25 fingers and 2 sides of fries at the drive thru. Had to wait while they cooked the chicken, which was fine--after all, who doesn't want hot food? What wasn't fine was that they left the fries out! (But we didn't discover that until we had gotten back home!) When I called to let them know and to ask them to process the refund, the person who answered the phone said, "We know you left the fries. They weren't in the bag." No apology for my inconvenience. No offer to refund the fries. So I told her I was back home already and just wanted a refund. The person said, "You can come get a refund." I indicated my receipt number and that I had used a card. I said I wanted her to just credit my card for the $5 for the fries. She refused. Said I could come get the cash if I wanted a refund. HUH?! I could understand if I had paid cash, but I used a card! Of course there was no manager on duty when I asked. My advice: There is a Zaxby's and a Dairy Queen across the street. My friend and I decided to stop by and check this place out since so many people were saying how this was better than Zaxby's. We both ordered the box, which came with chicken tenders, toast, fries, and coke slaw. My overall take was that the chicken tenders weren't bad, but they didn't rock my world like I was expecting them to. The crinkle cut fries were basic, and I wished that they were crispier. The coleslaw was bland in my opinion, but I'm not really a fan of coleslaw in the first place. To me, the toast was good, but my friend said it was too buttery for her. If I'm in the area and craving chicken tenders, I'll probably stop by. I would say that they're on the same playing field as Zaxby's in terms of quality and price. Okay so why haven't anyone told me about this restaurant a long time ago! OMG the food was delicious and it was served hot and fresh. Zaxby's will no longer suffice when I'm craving chicken tenders. The plate was a surprisingly large portion. I opted to substitute my Cole slaw for more fries. It was enough food for two meals. Next time, i will get the snack portion. I read up on this restaurant and apparently Zaxby's and Cane's sto-- I mean was inspired by Guthrie's. That explains the similarity in taste. I let the manager on duty know this was our first time trying the restaurant and he gave us complimentary drinks. The menu is simple and only consists of chicken tenders (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). I'll gladly come back even though it's completely out of the way. My first time at a Guthrie's, but it was pretty disappointing. I was hoping the food would be as excellent as Cane's, but the quality just wasn't there. Obviously they have a similar concept: tenders, crinkle fries, Texas toast and slaw. However I found the tenders to be not as flavorful as the Cane's ones that I'm used to, and the fries to be hopelessly soggy. The slaw was my favorite part of the meal which should not be the case. I also felt that the prices were a little steep comparably to similar establishments. You can get the same amount of food fresher at some of the non-chain chicken tender places around town, so I will be doing that from now on. read more

Solid chicken spot that's and Alabama original to boot. This location is a to go service only and for some reason they don't have the family pack option as the others do. However, service was fast and the chicken was cooked to order. Fresh and satisfying! There are no frills here - not even a dining room - but why complicate one of life's greatest simple pleasures? Many a restaurant serves their version of a chicken finger, but Guthrie's can compete with, and out-fry, nearly all of them. The sauce is often imitated but never duplicated, and you might as well go ahead and order extra. Trust me, it's that good, and you'll need one for the fingers and one for the fries. I'm not a huge fan of cole slaw, so I order extra toast instead. Chicken, french-fried potatoes, and buttery, garlicky bread makes one heck of a meal. Top it off with some sweet tea and I am one happy camper. And they have $10 t-shirts! Maybe they know you might drip some sauce on your shirt and subsequently need a wardrobe change. read more
