I had heard wonderful things about this location. I stopped in for lunch. It's smaller than I had imagined. It's got a bit of a sports bar feel, minus the televisions. The young lady at the resister wasn't very personable. No smile offered. I had never been to this restaurant and had forgotten to tell them the spice level. The young lady never asked me either. I hadn't realized that I hadn't told them to add heat until my food was already being prepared. The food was fresh and delicious. The French fries are thin string shoe style. The chicken tenders were big and breaded nicely. The ranch was good. Not quite as good as Wi by Stop, but better than packet ranch. My friend Bootsie told me about Eugene's.He was right so delicious.We both had the hot lemon pepper wings and the fried pickled okra.The wings were so delicious and hot ,both ways.The fried pickled okra may not be for everyone but I love okra any way fixed.Because I was working,I washed it down with Diet Coke .They do have cold beer,national brand and craft that would be great to wash it down too.Nothing fancy here just really good hot wings.This will definitely be another future stop for The Working Man Review. read more

I'm back at Eugene's. Yes, 5 years later!!! What's wrong with me?! Eugene's is the BEST hot chicken experiences in Birmingham, Alabama. I love their hot tenders , which are jumbo.... Literally! I had their picked fried okra for the first time and it was amazing! Only complaint, i wanted more pieces of okra. The service was friendly. There was a bit of a wait for my to -go order but they were slightly busy at the time of my visit. Parking can be an issue depending on your time of visit. I located street parking pretty easily around 7:30 pm ish on a Thursday. There's not much to the ambiance.... It's fried smelling! It's not a large space but it's comfortable. Also don't let the name scare you. They have different "degrees" of heat for all tastes. I will say if you are expecting order and 5 minutes later you are eating this is the wrong place for you.
