This was my first visit to this Eugene's location in Hoover. I have been to their downtown location many times. This building in Hoover is much bigger than downtown with several four top tables and a long high top table that would sit several people. They cook their food to order so you know that whatever you get will be hot and fresh. I got the jumbo tender combo with my tenders (hot), a side of collards and ranch. All of the food was great. The tenders were juicy and very large. The collards were tender and had great flavor. The only reason I'm giving a four star review is because I did not get the "hot" heat level that I was expecting. I always get my tenders with a "hot" heat level and I felt that I was shorted the spices and flavor on this trip. The piece of white bread that was under the tenders had more heat and that might have been cause it all rolled off the tenders and the bread soaked it up. I still enjoyed my meal thoroughly though.
Eugene's is the truth! I've ordered to go food from here quite a bit and every time it tastes great. The chicken is always big, juicy and my favorite descriptor, spicy. I alway go with Hot Damn spice level as I think I think it's the perfect level of heat, but you can still taste the other seasonings. I've tried a lot of hot chicken, and Eugene's is doing something different with their seasoning. I can't put my burning tongue on it but there's a lot going on in each bite that I love. I always suggest the sandwich with mac and cheese to people who haven't eaten here before because it's so good. But every so often I switch it up with chicken tenders and fries because I like to dip them in one of the many many dipping sauces to choose from.
So apparently we missed the initial lunch rush but by the time we had gotten our food, it was buzzing again. We split the Half Bird combo (mild heat) and it was definitely enough for 2. While it may have needed a pinch of salt, we enjoyed and even recommended it to my son when wanted Popeyes later in the evening.

My friend and I came in right around 11, so right after they opened. The employees were so friendly and helpful. I wasn't sure if I wanted 1 or 2 fillets, but the cashier was happy to help me gauge my hunger. The server was also amazing! She delivered food with a smile and I could tell she was doing a little bit of everything to keep the restaurant running smoothly. I went for the catfish and my friend got the chicken tenders..... wowww! So freakin' good. The biggest reason I wanted to go was for the fried pickled okra. I'd had it at the location downtown, so I knew what to get. My other side was potato salad, which was also to die for. Last but not least, GET THE SWEET TEA! Real southern sweet tea, that's it! So glad they have something for everyone, and everything is good. I'm already excited for my next visit!

Cooks bring the food directly to your table, employees are friendly, service was great overall. The food was pretty good, chicken tenders were tender albeit SLIGHTLY stiff like wings. Places like Raising Cane's offer better portion sizing for sure, regardless, the food was pretty enjoyable.
The chicken was very good. I got the popcorn chicken and there was enough for me to have it for dinner and then lunch the next day. I got the hot level heat. I can do spicy. This had more heat than I expected. It wasn't a burn your mouth type heat. It was more like you felt it in your chest. Not so much that you couldn't keep eating but though. My husband got the 1/4 white in mild. I'm glad he got the mild because that was still a little hot. He doesn't do so great with spicy food. The sides kind of stole the show. The Mac and cheese tasted cheesy. Sometimes restaurants use so much flour, it just tastes like mush. Not here! Cole slaw was excellent however the fried okra reigned supreme. I'd never had anything like this and I've eaten my weight in fried okra in my lifetime. It wasn't cut up pieces. It was whole okra and it was pickled before it was fried. My goodness! We also had the comeback sauce. I almost forgot! The service was really good too! They make everything to order so they give you a heads up it may take a little while longer. Our food came out in an appropriate amount of time and it was a good temp. I know they made it and brought it right out.

Eugene's never fails to deliver on hot tasty food at a good price. I always enjoy getting the jumbo chicken tenders with fries, but I wanted another side item so I went with fried pickles okra. The food is always prepared fresh and arrive hot at the table. The service is always on point and I love they take customers service seriously. I ended up getting the hottest of the hot flavor tenders and I needed another cup of ranch dressing which I didn't mind paying for it, but they didn't charge me for it which is nice. This location is more roomy than the one downtown which is why I prefer coming here.
Hot dayaaaamn! The chicken here is outta this world. This was the best last meal to end our trip! We came on a weekday at noon with very little of a line. Quickly ordered, service was meh. Lady seemed a lil irked while I was trying to figure out my order. Went with the jumbo tenders, mild with lemon pepper along with my side order of fries. Comes with 1 sauce, liked the Alabama white sauce. Added on the Mac and cheese, bc how can you not. The lemon pepper was subtle and would of liked the flavor to come through more. Other than that, it was pretty epic! Perfectly crispy with the juiciest meat. Definitely a meal to remember! The fries were well seasoned. The Mac and cheese was not my fav and more on the oily side, but everything was finger lookin' good!
Stopped for lunch. Glad we did! Place was busy, but the wait wasn't too long Little disappointed in the side options. None of them are very healthy. Certainly not for a diabetic or calorie counter. My chicken was good. Would get it again. The soft drink machine wasn't working that day. Employees are friendly Would come again. Just skip The sides.

Chicken and slaw were both solid 4 stars. Fried okra was a whiff. A little over fried. Sevice was fast and friendly. Very attentive. I'm a fan of hot food and got the "mild." It had a perfect amount of heat, so beware if you go spicier. Overall, would go back if in the area read more

Chicken sammich was HUGE. My first time here for take-out and other than waiting quite a while for my order it was great. Fried pickled okra was delightful. Will at the register was one of the friendliest cashiers I've met. I'll be back,!! read more
I randomly found Eugene's because I was searching for fried chicken onYelp. They did not disappoint! I ordered the popcorn chicken entrée with a side of fries and with the blue cheese dipping sauce. I also got a banana pudding Bundt cake. I went with hot for the chicken flavor and it was definitely hot. There was some heat, but I like heat so it wasn't overwhelming for me. The fries were crispy and seasoned well, just like I like them! Now for the cake!!! I'm so glad a customer in line behind me recommended I try the banana pudding flavor. It was absolutely delicious!!! The cake had all the flavors of banana pudding and just everything I could've wanted. The cake is fairly large for the price, so I couldn't finish eating it at one time. But I'm not complaining. That was the best part of it. I will definitely return to Eugene's and absolutely recommend it to others! The service was fast and the food was delicious! read more
The first time I had Eugene's was at a food truck, and it was pretty life changing! I came to this brick and mortar location earlier this week for lunch. It's very busy for lunch even on a Monday! The menu is pretty big, and I saw multiple things on the menu I really wanted to try. I ended up choosing the popcorn chicken and creamy mac & cheese as my side. The staff was very friendly. I was however charged an extra $1.00 for choosing the mac & cheese as my side. The menu did not state that it was a premium side so I would have liked to have known that beforehand as I would have chosen a different side. I now see pictures of their older menus where it does state an upcharge for mac & cheese. It would have been good to know. As for the taste of the food, the mac & cheese was indeed my favorite! The popcorn chicken not so much. I ordered it with the lemon pepper seasoning, and there just wasn't enough seasoning. It was pretty bland. I ordered the lemon pepper seasoning when I went to their food truck, and it was stellar. I guess different cooks just season their food differently. The chicken was also much tougher than when I had it on the food truck. I would have personally taken it out of the fryer maybe one or two minutes earlier. The blue cheese dipping sauce I chose helped, but I could have used more. This location does offer a nice dining environment and serves as a great lunch/dinner spot if you are around the Hoover area. I just had a better experience at the food truck. read more
I tried Eugene's years ago before they had a brick & mortar, when it was just a food truck new to the area. I suggested as an option for my vegetarian daughter because I had heard they now had a good "Not Chicken" Sandwich and a location near her Summer Externship. She decided to pick up lunch for us. I don't tolerate heat as well as i used to so I opted for the Mild Popcorn Chicken with Macaroni & Cheese. Eugene's Mild is closer to what many consider Medium heat. The chicken was as good as I remembered. If you truly want a mild version go with the Southern. In the food truck days I tried Southern, Mild and Hot. Mac & Cheese was ok. Daughter really liked her Mild Vegan Chicken Sandwich & French Fries. She let me try it and it was better than most other similar options. Still no danger of me giving up meat but not a bad option. Looking forward to the food truck coming to our office next month! read more

I got the chicken sandwich, nice flavor, but why is my tender 8 inches and bread soggy. Fries are definitely from McDonald's distribution center. Sauce was actually banging. Cole slaw came in on its lunch break showed up late and left early. read more

This was my first visit and it was perfect!!! I ordered the mild chicken tenders plate with pickled okra. Everything was seasoned to perfection and came out HOT & FRESH! The cashier and host were very friendly and pleasant. I most definitely will be going back. It is located in a good area near the Riverchase mall. The inside is very much sporty/chill, but cool with artwork on the wall. If you're looking for chicken, then this is where you should be!! read more
I am a huge fan of Nashville hot chicken and have tried many of these hot chicken joints in the mecca of hot chicken, Nashville (hence the term "Nashville hot chicken"). Eugene's Hot Chicken was the first place to bring hot chicken to the Birmingham, Alabama area and now have a location in Hoover, Alabama (a suburb of Birmingham maybe fifteen or twenty minutes south). Again, I am a huge fan of Nashville hot chicken, so when I was in Hoover, I headed out to check out this location of Eugene's Hot Chicken. There was plenty of parking and walking in and glancing at the blackboard menu, my interest was piqued by the fact that in addition to their hot chicken and hot catfish, they also had hot pork chops. So hot pork chops it would be. For my heat level, I went with their hottest, stupid hot, and for my sides, I went with their collard greens and their loaded baked potato salad. I also had a side of the Alabama white sauce. The ordering process here is pretty simple. You walk in an approach a cashier and place your order. She in turn gives you a number and you find a seat. A food runner will bring you your food. Both the cashier and the food runner were friendly and professional. Both the pork chops and sides were very good. The Alabama white sauce certainly added to the Nashville hot chicken experience (or in this case the Nashville hot pork chop experience) and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, though I wish the stupid hot was just a bit hotter. All in all, Eugene's hot chicken is a great option for people in the Hoover, Alabama area who are craving hot chicken and want to stay local. read more

I placed a pick up order over the phone and was told the wait would be 30 minutes. Get to Eugene's after 30 minutes and had to wait an extra 20-25 minutes because they were extremely understaffed (most restaurants are so I understand) but there was no communication with the customers. I ordered a tender sandwich with no heat (no heat has no sauce at all so be cautious of that), Mac and cheese and fried okra. My total came to around $19. I don't feel like this was a value for what I recieved, especially with no drink. My sandwich was ok and my fried okra was horrible and small (they basically gave me regular okra since the "fried" part fell off). The best part of my entire meal/experience was the Mac & Cheese. They gave a generous amount of it and it was delicious! I might try them again but there is no rush to. read more
This was my first visit so this review is probably pretty premature. I had the chicken and waffles, which comes with 6 wings and 4 waffle triangles = 1 waffle. The cashier asked about (chicken wing) heat level and I responded, "I like hot but I don't wanna die." She suggested mild " because it's hot but not too hot" ... In my opinion the mild WAS'T HOT AT ALL :( However the flavor profile was on point. A touch greasy, within the normal range. The waffle was PERFECT. Taste, texture, flavor... yes, yep, yes. I'll definitely try this again with hot chicken. My husband had the fish sandwich and said it was really good. He liked the fish better than the chicken. Check'em out! read more

Eugene's never disappoints! I came to their new location in Hoover on a Sunday afternoon. Little did I know they were going to be closing shortly after I got my dine in order. The staff didn't rush me off and I even had the place to myself! The service was exceptional the moment I walked in. The food was hot and fresh .... like always! This new location is ideal. Parking right out front , so it's easily accessible. The inside is not the biggest but it's comfortable seating and TVs displayed on the walls. The menu also includes a decent local draft beer menu as well. Nothing like hot chicken and a cold beer! I really enjoyed my Jumbo tenders and fries - I even had leftovers for lunch the next day!! read more
Eugene's is Birmingham Hot Chicken! Hey Nashville, anything you can do BHM can do better. The restaurant is conveniently located on the Highway 150 side of the Hoover Galleria. It is located in the spot that was previously Johnny Rockets and Highway 55. The format is counter order, seat yourself, and self-service drink station. This location opened 2019 (during COVID-19), and they are adhering to social distancing and masking protocols. My daughter, Jenny, and I stopped in for lunch on Monday. It was busy but not uncomfortably crowded. The ordering process is straight forward. There is a large black board with menu. I ordered the Chicken Tenders plate. You choose spice level, dipping sauce, and a side. I ordered mine Hot, Come Back Sauce, and side of turnip greens. The three chicken tenders that I had were excellent. Large breasts fried in a light and spicy batter. The Come Back sauce is a mayonnaise, ketchup, chili powder combination that was smooth and tasty. I was very hesitant to stop by because of a few reviews on wait time. I took a chance and yes there was a wait but not too bad. Also, I was updated on my order and why it was taking a little longer. I ordered the Jumbo Wings, mild. I've had the wings before from their food truck but it has been a while. So it was almost like having them for the first time. Nice seasoning, reminded me of a favorite chip I like and of course with a nice crunch. I chose the Alabama white sauce and the baked potatato salad, paired well with the chicken. My only small complaint, I don't eat bread often but an extra slice with three wings would be great! First time at this location and glad it is a little closer. read more
I'm so happy for Eugene's to have a location that's closer to me. The new location is in Hoover next to the ABC store and across from Home Depot. This is a very convenient location to me so I'll definitely stop by often. When I went in today, it wasn't crowded, yet. The menu is the same as their downtown location. Food is cooked to order so it took about 15-20 minutes to get my food. That was fine with me. I like hot, fresh food. The staff was nice, which is the norm for Eugene's. The owner was there and he greeted me. The inside is decorated very nicely. The place is bigger than the downtown location so it will be nice to bring the family here. Of course, the food was finger licking good. I look forward to stopping by in the very near future! read more
