We went to Gusto for lunch and had a great time there. We ordered the Valencian Paella which is the more traditional version with rabbit and chicken. We had to wait for about 30 minutes because it is made fresh but it was definitely worth the wait. The service was also very good and we received table side service after the paella was ready where the waiter filled our plate with the food from the paella pan for us. The Paella here also takes roughly 35-40 minutes to cook, so please be aware if you're really hungry. Both the paella AND the shrimp carpaccio potato salad dish we had were amazing, and with a whole liter of sangria to guzzle down, it made our first night in Seville so memorable. This morning, we visited Gusto for breakfast to wrap up our last morning in Seville, only to have our second consecutive disappointing experience--just minutes after leaving La Campana. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly and given menus by the male waitstaff, which initially gave us hope for a smooth dining experience. However, when I tried to place our order, the female server on shift abruptly told me to "wait" without any explanation. I assumed she was handling something urgent, but instead, she went around taking orders from other tables while completely ignoring us. After 15 minutes of waiting with no acknowledgment, we decided to leave. Having two frustrating experiences with poor service back-to-back in a matter of minutes was a disappointing way to end our time in Seville. With so many great restaurants in the city that value their customers, I'd recommend dining elsewhere. read more

Excellent paella! If you're in the Santa Cruz neighborhood in Seville, this is the place to go for paella. It's right next to the cathedral and Giralda, but be sure to make a reservation online or you may not get in at busier times. There aren't many tables inside. While the paella was the best we had in Seville, don't bother ordering dessert. We had the carrot cake and the lemon tart and they were both average at best. Also, skip the sangria here and go for wine instead. The sangria wasn't memorable and the selection of wine and beer is good. This place was great! Came here with my wife and kids, ages 13 and 18, for lunch. The restaurant is right in a Main Street in Sevilla, and can get very busy. Inside, the main room is not huge, but the vibe is good and the service solid. For food, we had the cheese platter and fried provolone Tapas. Both were great but probably should not have doubled down on cheese. This of the fried dish as a mozzarella stick, but provolone. For main course we had the veggie paella and the Korean short ribs. The paella was really good and while the short ribs were yummy (and filling), we think they might have given us the wrong order as these seemed like fried pieces of dough. We made reservations and missed the mark of 15 minutes due to traffic. We got a table outside regardless so that was cool. Service was ok nothing to brag about. You don't really have a server. It took 30 minutes to get a wine glass but the food was great! Squid in rice was so creamy and delicious. It took an hour and a few minutes to make as they are busy. The Campri was the most disgusting drink we have ever had. Like worse than everclear and fourlocos mixed together. The croquet was pretty good - that was the best thing we had. Probably the busiest restaurant in the Cathedral. Very touristy but the food us solid. They serve American style breakfast, scrambled eggs, croissants, jamon, early, then close breakfast at 12 and reopen for lunch at 1:30. So if you arrive between 12 and 1pm, you won't be seated for breakfast but have to wait till 1:30 for lunch. We've eaten here twice, once for late lunch and for breakfast and no complaints about the dishes. Nothing spectacular, but pretty good for a tourist restaurant. Gusto is located right across the street from the Seville Cathederal. We were greeted immediately by our wonderful server, Aouatif. Aouatif took care of us after we were overheating from walking around outside. We ordered drinks, received bread and olives, and enjoyed our two meals; club sandwich, the presa iberica, and some desserts from the bakery. This is our second night in Seville and we were in the mood for good paella. We passed by this place on a few occasions just went we were round and about the cathedral and Alcazar that are nearby. We started off with the ham croquette as well as the prawn tapas. But hit the mark with the taste matching the presentation. This is a cute restaurant right by Catedral de Sevilla. I can't remember the exact name of the dishes we ordered but one of it was the squid stir fried with vegetable and the other dish was a potato pancakes that's Japanese influenced and tasted similar to a takoyaki. The squid dish was amazing! It was so fresh, light, and full of flavors! The potato dish was also perfectly seasoned. If the rating was based on food alone, they'd get a 3.5. The two stars include a penalty for general plastic style and tacky tourist ripoffs. I had the tuna burger plate, which came with a bit of salad and some roasted potatoes. It was decent enough. However, if you're looking for authenticity, look somewhere else. I wouldn't be surprised if this was in Orlando, or in any mildly upscale shopping mall in the US - the kind of place where someone might take a date after the movie instead of the food court. The staff all have the same outfit, and the burger came on a plank with a manufactured fake piece of "vintage Americana" newspaper. Travel guru Rick Steves suggests drinking the tap water (aqua del grifo) in Spain, especially if you're trying to do the eight glasses a day plan. I've been following his advice through four cities over three weeks and this is the first place to refuse ("We don't do that"). The couple at the next table were surprised to find a 3 euro charge for bread they didn't eat. The waitress pointed out that it was written on the menu, in a tiny type font usually reserved for "battery not included". I reserve one star ratings for places with truly execrable food or stunningly obnoxious service, so they get two. Most of the restaurants right across the Cathedral are traps, overpriced and don't taste very good, so BEWARE! We made reservations at 730pm as that was the first seating when they open. We came in a bit early and were told we had to wait until 730 to be seated. Once we were seated there were a few people who tended to us. I think the service is really hit or miss. Some of the waiters seemed nice but the one that helped us was really useless. Asked for recommendations and he gave us NONE. Pretty much said just pick what you like....um ok? We ended up asking another waiter who recommended the paella (and pretty much what every table ordered). The paella was very dry. Flavor was ok but I've had much. Better paella elsewhere. I wouldn't come back here for it. We also added several other dishes. Plate of cured meats - the only item I enjoyed that evening Squid stuffed with cheese and olive - thought it was going to be interesting but the olive taste was really overpowering and textures weren't good. Seated Scallop - nothing special and came out a bit cold. We also ordered extra salt baked shrimp thinking there wouldn't be enough in the paella. The menu caught my eye, as it had vegetarian paella. I was a little skeptical it was truly vegetarian and asked the waitress about the stock in both Spanish and English; she was very patient with me and assured me it was indeed a vegetarian dish. Since this paella was sized and priced for 2 (actually, it was plenty for 3), my kind boo agreed to share it and got a first course to satiate the meat craving for himself. There were other thoughtful vegetarian courses but I knew the paella would be enough for me. They offered a complimentary, cleverly presented amuse bouche of pumpkin purée and toast, which was surprisingly yummy. This was appreciated given the paella is made to order and takes about 30 minutes. No problem for us, we were content to sip our sangria and wait. After our meal, they also offered limoncello but we declined. The paella pan comes out hot and is set up on a table-side stool, mixed up, and served beautifully. It was the right amount of crispy and the flavor of the rice is the best I've had. We sat inside at the back corner window, which is good for people watching and a partial view of the Cathedral. But choose another table since 1) we kept getting dripped on from a leaky roof - they offered to change our table but it was a very minor inconvenience and 2) the lights above were hot hot hot - we worked up a sweat towards by end of our meal. When we saw a sign outside advertising home made pastas we decided to check it out. The inside is very cozy and all the wait staff speaks English and is very friendly. The pizza was just okay, however the pasta was phenomenal. Fresh, savory, delicious. They also make their desserts in house and have a ton to choose from. Two stars away as I felt a bit ripped off at this place - the check had 2x the price of paella and some additional items in spanish. When I asked our server for clarification, I was told that the price for the paella on the menu is for one person and they brought us serving for two people. We intended to share one helping and clearly ordered one helping as we weren't able to finish what they served us anyways. Also, I saw the bread charge on the check while we didn't touch the bread basket. I didn't argue much over a small charge but most restaurants are courteous enough to not add it to the bill if the party didn't consume any or ask if we want it before they put it on the table. When I decided to order a whole paella for myself, i was kindly reassigned to a nice table on the patio. The service was classy and friendly at the same time.
