    Oxtail meatballs
    Sandy J.

This place was interesting. One, it has an interesting name that made me think of the Aztecs first. The cuisine tasted French in flavor, but the ingredients were Spanish. Definitely one of the pricier places but the flavors are good and you won't be in for any touristy traps. I ordered the oxtail meatballs (very heavy btw- I recommend splitting this dish with 2 people and then ordering some grilled veggies- I could feel the oil and heaviness even into midnight after having this for lunch). Oxtail meatballs are different from normal meatballs which are made of ground meat. Oxtail itself is already fatty and the meat is shredded- imagine a very fine pulled beef put into balls with a mild sauce that reminds. Me of some red wine Burgundy sauce I had France. The flavors were actually super mild here- no super spices/very subtle/not as heavily spiced as some places that may go for the more Moroccan side of the Andalusia culture. Grilled veggies is actually a massive dish. It is also massive for 1 eater- I highly recommend this be a split or a main entree. There is artichoke, asparagus, carrots, peppers that are grilled super well.

When your Airbnb host and friends recommend you go to La Azotea... go to La Azotea. We tried on Christmas Day twice (at this address and at another address a little northwest) but this address was completely reserved and the other was closed. We gave it another try today and although all of their remaining tables were reserved, we were able to get seats at the bar in the back (group of 4). Oh man I'm so happy we were able to come because everything was so delicious!!! We started with drinks- I went for the sangria (Airbnb host recommended it!) and the parents went for beer. Mom tried my sangria... immediately ordered sangria. I would definitely say it's in my top 5 sangrias of all time. I kind of thought we went all out and ordered a ton but our total was still only €92!! We got: Octopus (Plato): tender and lightly chewy octopus slices! We all enjoyed this as our first dish- wasn't as spicy as it looked! Tomato, burrata, etc. ensalada (media): mom's FAVORITE of the day (day which includes La Azotea for lunch and La Brunilda for dinner). I enjoyed it myself and really loved the temperature & texture contrasts. I did not think I would like the lemon sorbet but it really worked. Rice paper rolls stuffed with cheese, prawns and leeks (media): the middle size came with 4 rolls and were sooo good. Sister's favorite dish at La Azotea! I sometimes get stuffed cheesy rolls (in the US) that are overwhelmingly cheesy but this was a nice balance of creaminess and umami. Gazpacho: if you love gazpacho, get this. If you haven't tried it, try it now. A++ Oxtail meatballs (media): medium size came again with 4 meatballs. I don't recall the purées but the meatballs were tender and fell apart with the slightest pressure of our forks. Dad's favorite dish. We decided to order some additional dishes and went with the rest of the top 3 classics, and some veggies for the sake of having some plants in our diets: Spanish potato salad (tapa): unlike any potato salad that I've ever had! The smoked fish and capers add just the right amount of saltiness and brininess. Next time I'm making potato salad at home I'll be experimenting with these two elements! Salted baked potatoes (Plato): lovely dish with a spicy sauce- although I would say that in comparison to all other dishes, it doesn't stand out quite as much to me. Roasted vegetables with Iberian ham (media): good for your digestive system? Good plate of roasted veggies to round out your diet. Overall, clearly a great meal that we would redo again when the opportunity comes. 5/5 would recommend to everyone visiting Seville!!

Shrimp in garlic and butter sauce - very fresh

We stopped by on our self-made tapas tour of this lively area on first night in Sevilla. This place serves a lot of seafood based tapas, and everything was flavorful and fresh. We really enjoyed the food here! I really liked the soup of the day and the shrimp, both were unique in their own ways. If you are closeby, it's definitely worth a visit. The outdoor area is also really nice, we will definitely be back before we leave Sevilla.

Best food so far, two weeks into a four week trip through Spain. Three different kinds of cold soup - Best gazpacho yet, I'll be back to try the others. I've been trying to diet while traveling - which involves a lot of gazpacho. Note that in the big cities, the better markets (eg Cortes Ingles food hall in Madrid) have it fresh in bottles, and even juice boxes. It goes for a few euros/liter - less than petrol - lo calorie and non flammable Salmon tartar with mustard sauce and tomatoes was excellent. A single jumbo prawn was 6.50, but worth it. When I was first here, any decent tapas spot in Barcelona was a cheap thrill at five plates & a drink for 10 euros. By week 2, in Madrid, I was going through Rick Steves and Yelp for more exotic varieties - especially seafood. They take it up a notch or two here. Note that it's easy to walk past them. Look for the glass case of fresh seafood on ice.

The food here is absolutely wonderful. One of my favorite dishes was definitely the ox-tail meatballs. Seafood is also very fresh. The sangria is to die for. The staff is also very nice and just a blast to be around. I think it is a bit pricier than other tapas places, but the quality is really superb. I highly recommend. As with most places in Spain, definitely make a reservation ahead of time.

Per the recommendation of a culinary website I found online, I stopped at La Azotea after visiting the nearby Cathedral. This spot is beautifully decorated and well run, and it was the perfect choice for some afternoon tapas. First, the tomatoes and avocado slices were incredible. The sauce on top of this rare vegetable dish (as it is hard to find anything other than fried food and meat in Spain, myself being a selective vegetarian) was what made the dish. It was so good I finished everything that was left on the plate! The salmoneja was a great healthy option, as well. Lastly, the sausage was delicious and I'm sure all the other meats on the menu are on par with the one we tried. Most importantly, the bill was not unreasonable for the amount of food we ordered and the sophistication which the meal achieved. I would recommend La Azotea to anyone who appreciates fine dining, even if he or she does not have a budget fit for a Michelin star!

One of our favorite meals while in Seville. I started with a stellar glass of their mixed sangria which came packed to the brim with fresh fruit, shaved ice (which makes it even prettier) and white wine topped with red. We paired drinks with a full plate of jamon and a side of cheese because, #spain. To start, we ordered the fresh burrata with heirloom tomatoes, greens and basil gummies (!!) layered over lettuce and sprinkled with evoo and chives. Next up was the tartar which was insane over a grainy mustard and jam combo, micro greens and a green apple gremolata that brought it all together beautifully and was so enjoyable and fun to eat with the diversity of textures and temperatures. These were followed by grilled artichokes with caramelized onions for a lighter bite before we indulged in their super rich gazpacho with chives and finely diced jamon and to finish, pulpo in a savory saffron sauce with smokey paprika. Would gladly eat here again and again and it was fairy easy to get a later reservation.

Came here with the family after seeing the positive reviews. We didn't have to make a reservation (party of 3) but I would recommend one if you're dining after 7:30. Impression: (4.5/5) Overall quality of the food is high and the flavors are creative, I would come back. Service is slow but friendly; they were understaffed around the time we came. Our order: * Tiger prawns and large prawn from the seafood case (5/5) - seasoned perfectly, on the pricey side * Burrata salad (5/5) - first of its kind, get a half portion * Avocado Salad (3/5) - nothing special here, on the small side * Rice Paper rolls (4/5) - kind of like an elevated crab rangoon * Rice of the day (4/5) - it was truffle and foie gras today, tasty but heavy in the salt * Red sangria (5/5) - really addicting, watch out Value: I love how you can order half portions so you can sample more of the menu. The portions are on the smaller side for the price so I'd recommend ordering some more filling tapas if you are hungry. Three of us came out to ~ 100€. Seafood case is quite pricey as the large prawn we ordered was 22€ and the tiger prawns were 27€. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly so no regrets there.

One of the best meals we had on our entire trip! Service was awesome and food was incredible! The pan con tomate was so fresh, we almost inhaled it. The papas bravas are whole mini potatoes blanketed in a really flavorful, spicy sauce. The salad with burrata and lemon sorbet was a delight. We got a full portion of this little lobster, pancetta, guacamole special. After we gorged on the bread and potatoes--and let's be honest, a couple cocktails--we were afraid it would end up being too much, but the portion was perfect. The whole staff was upbeat, friendly, having a good time and spoke English. They take credit cards. Perfect place to go if you are staying at nearby Hotel Casa 1800 or are done with the cathedral and want to find a quality place nearby.

After the Catedral I developed a strong hunger. Everything was good. I didn't order the best main dish however...roast beef burger. But, I had a great outside table and good service. Outstanding people watching perch.

This is one of the very popular places for Tapas in Seville. It's a bit pricy but very much worth it for a real local flavor and good quality food. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seats and we came at around 7pm so it was practically empty, but got more crowded closer to 8pm. I really enjoyed the fish dishes, especially the salmon tatare and the salads were nice as well. The service was excellent and very attentive, the staff knew some English which was a great help. I would recommend the fish with fried potatoes, salmon tartare and soups.

    Inside - wall of plates!

We have been eating tapas for days, and this place has been the best we've tried! The Ajoblanca was delicious, tuna taco, cod with confit and rice paper parcels were divine. Even had dessert and sherry as it was so good! This is on the street of restaurants near Giralda tower so can be hard to spot, but is worth finding! We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Know in advance there are two options, if you want to eat here …read more.. 1. Book a table online ... There is a cancellation policy, so you will need to put down a credit card and around 15 Euro per person to hold the time/date. You will have access to a sit-down table and a waiter and full-plated menu and fancy tapas. VERY IMPORTANT ... Know by sitting at a table with a reservation, you will pay 3 - 5 times the price for the same tapas on the bar side! 2. Show up and get a seat in the bar area for tapas. This is first come, first serve and there was a line of around 5 people when the restaurant opened at 1 p.m. It probably wouldn't be a problem getting a bar area or table if you show up 15 - 20 minute earlier. Otherwise it's a free for all. We would have preferred the bar side and less money ... however, we had a little one in a stroller so we didn't want to jockey for a spot. Had we known showing up a little early at the opening time was so easy, we'd have done that. The waiters are all older in the restaurant side and act pretentious ... as fine dining waiters do. They have little patience ... aren't very friendly ... and are very brusque. They act like they are you doing a favor by waiting on you. Also, be prepared to speak Spanish. The food here is good to average. It's expensive (on the fine dining side) I would imagine the food is the same quality ... just smaller portions on the bar side. We didn't try it. On the sit-down side, things get pricey and you have to order larger portions. We ordered: - Iberico Ham ... 20 Euros. They brought a big plate. There was no smaller order. It was very good. Not the best that we had but better than anything you'd get in the US. - Croquettes ... 12 Euro. Another big order size with no smaller available. These were the best Croquettes we had in Seville. Fried perfectly with a very loose and cheesy filling. Almost like a breadless grilled cheese sandwich. - Cuttle Fish ... 12 Euro. This was pretty bad. It was like eating giant strips of rubber with no taste. Way too chewy and hardly any batter. It was served with no nipping sauce and was like eating a basket of small tires. - Creamed Spinach ... I have never tasted anything like this. It was like eating spinach blended with cream with church insence mixed it. I'd imagine a basket of poppuri soaked in salt water would taste similar. It was not great, although very unique. For 8 Euro, a big pass. - Cheesecake ... Not great. Tasted like a square of sweet cheesecake with strawberry jelly on top. I can't imagine you couldn't find something similar in a supermarket for much cheaper than the 6 Euro price. Overall, the atmosphere was nice. It was immaculately clean inside and it didn't really look as ancient as you'd expect. It looked like a Spanish restaurant you'd expect. However the food was pretty average compared to other restaurants in Spain. We saw the table next to us both got steak and left it about 3/4 eaten, so it couldn't have been fantastic as they didn't look like the GLP1 type. This is one you must hit in Seville, just because it's so famous. It's on a cute street. However, don't expect it to be the best food you try in Seville and if you can do the tapas bar side, you'll probably have a better experience than in the formal dining room area.

Tables perhaps a bit close together, not terribly comfortable. Loud, busy. As far as the service, it was our impression that our waiter was the only person serving the 30 or so tables in their dining room. Suffice it to say the service was not fast and not good. Inexplicably, every time we ordered a Coke we were asked if we wanted a Coke Zero. If I wanted a Coke Zero I would have said the words Coke Zero. Even when I asked for another Coke, he again asked "Coke Zero?" It took next to forever to get the check, and forever to get a cappuccino. At one point I took it upon myself to point the waiter to a table behind us that had been desperately attempting to get his attention. This was all not good. As to the food. First, our fault for not knowing what tataki meant. We did not expect to receive salmon that was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. So that one is on us, although we also think the meal came tepid at best. The lamb on couscous was dry and tough. The pork cheek stew was actually pretty good if a bit gluey. The calamari was good. The sushi as they called it was average. What they called the tiramisu was more like a pudding with some liqueur and chocolate on the top, and a little bit of breadish stuff in the bottom. Not my idea of tiramisu, and probably not yours either. So we could not get too excited about these various dishes. But what was particularly frustrating and bizarre was that two people sitting across from us ordered food that looked absolutely delicious. So we got to sit there wondering why we didn't order what they ordered. They ordered a large beef dish with potatoes which is on the menu, and we think they ordered a large octopus meal although we are not sure. Everything they had looked better than anything we had. So it may be that we somehow just picked the wrong items. So it was a strangely frustrating meal. This place has good reviews and we expected good tasting food. Unfortunately it did not work out that way, and the ambience and service were negative contributing factors. I can't entirely write this place off, only because the food other diners received actually looked very good. But I don't think I would go there again.
