The best food I had in all of Seville.. stopped by this place for late dinner during my recent trip to Seville and this place did not disappoint. We ordered their roasted lamb with cous cous, garlic shrimp croquetta (that was the croquetta of the day), pork cheek stew with potato purée and the chocolate panna cotta for dessert. We also ordered their sangria and tinto de verano. Every dish we ordered was AMAZING - tasty flavorful well seasoned melt in your mouth meat bursting with flavors. We devoured every bite and it was hard to pick a favorite. Both the lamb and pork dishes were 11/10. Not just the taste but the presentation of every tapa was fantastic. Their drinks were also great. The dessert was to die for. This place is super packed during peak dinner hours and there is barely any room to stand. Since we walked in around 11pm, we got a seat and were well taken care of all thru the night. Also noticed alot of veggie options on the menu which was great. Service was awesome ambience is chic. We went to La Bartola twice during our trip to Seville, including with our three year old, and both visits were great. The food across the board was very good, but the Carrillada Ibérica con Parmentier de Patata really stood out (Iberian pork cheek). It was tender and full of flavor, and the potato parmentier balanced it perfectly. It was easily the most memorable dish we ordered. We are here on our first night back in Spain. It was across the street from our amazing hotel and it had great reviews on Yelp and a long line of people waiting.... So it must be good, right? I'll say - it was good. Period. I did not think the food was good enough to warrant the hour wait. Having said that, here are the tapas we ordered: - Queso Manchego (excellent) - Jamón Ibérico (excellent) - Sushi de Verduras (good) - Ternera Retinta (our fave) - Wok Picante (okay;NOT spicy in the slightest) - Croquetas del dia (good) - Tiramisu (good) The Rioja Vega was one of the best red wines I had in the city. Service was Eh. To be fair, there were 2 servers only and they were working their tails off. We also had to remember dining in Europe is quite different and more leisurely compared to in the States so if it takes 20 minutes to pay the bill and leave, so be it. We would make eye contact and I clearly wanted his attention but he would ignore us until he was ready. I understand their busy but this place seems like a tourist trap with servers who don't like that there are tourists there. I would not come back. Been to other bars with better food and better service. The veggies on our tapas were way too salty. The salmon would have been a good deal if it wasn't over salted. The crema de limon dessert was topped with weird blue jello. The 2 redeeming dishes were the salmonrejo and sushi de vederas. The arroz roja was bland and the rice was undercooked. Lovely place for excellent food and drinks. Found this place on Yelp and I am so happy i did. A short walk from my hotel we chose to come here for an early dinner and they took us without a reservation. We ordered many different tapas, all of which were amazing. Maybe we were impressed as Americans - but this food was GREAT! It seems like paella is their famous dish but as a couple that does not like seafood there were many many other options. We loved our lunch at La Bartola, which offers tapas with an Asian twist! We came on Thursday around 1:30 and there were a couple folks waiting ahead of us in line. Waited about 20 minutes to get seated, which wasn't too bad. It's a small restaurant, with some small tables, counter seating, and bar seating. Most of their dishes can be ordered as a tapa or plate. We opted to order a couple of different tapa dishes so we could try more things. They had some interesting vegetarian offerings as well, which was nice so that my vegetarian friend had more than just tortilla or patatas bravas to choose from. We tried: Salmorejo (3.50€ tapa) - chilled tomato soup. We wanted to try this since it's a popular local dish, but it was too thick for our liking. It felt more like we were eating tomato cream rather than a soup. Maybe we would've liked it more hot, but it's typically served cold since the weather gets so hot here. Arroz rojo (4.50€ tapa) - Thai red rice. The rice was very flavorful but I did think the portion was small for the price, especially compared to the tempura sushi. Sushi de verduras (4.50€ tapa) - vegetarian tempura sushi. Surprisingly this was our favorite dish of the meal! The porcini mushroom sauce was so addictive and the sushi roll was fried perfectly. Croquetas del dia (3.80€) - the daily croquette was ham. Pretty solid but tasted similar to other ham croquettes we had on the trip. Pulpo a la brasa (14.50€) - you can't go wrong with grilled octopus, but I thought the portion was small for the price. It looked like it was a tapa portion, except it's actually considered a whole plate. For dessert, we had the caramelized apple (4€), which was AMAZING. It's baked (I think?) with cinnamon and other spices and nuts and was one of our favorite desserts of the trip. Don't snooze on this! We left here very happy and full and our wallet only 36€ lighter. Just left the La Bartola. Food was great but the service really sucks and the waiter that gave us our bill doesn't know how to do simple math. To be courteous, I wanted to leave a 10% tip. Per guideline, 10% is the baseline but not necessary. If the service is exceptional, you can give 15-20%. I should have just said never mind and not add a tip. To be honest, it wasn't deserving. Also, they also can't wait to get you out of the restaurant. If the service was great, I'd give it a 5 star but experience counts. It wasn't a great experience. read more

Had read reviews about this place so gave it a try and I wasn't disappointed. I'm vegetarian, but my traveling friends are not. Eggs and potatoes have been about all I can get with an occasional basic salad. I was in heaven with multiple options. The zucchini sachets were delicious. The tapas size is plenty unless you have a table of veg lovers. The Thai red rice was so flavorful. The sushi was good, but loved the other two more. They also had specials on the board. The Burrata salad was beyond tasty. My friends enjoyed the croquetas and raved about the lamb dish. The atmosphere was busy and fun. The staff was working hard and still were friendly and attentive. We saw that this place was highly rated and not far from where we were staying. Also it was open before the typical 8pm opening hours of most Spanish restaurants. We found two seats at the bar since it was already pretty full at 7:00pm. The help was hustling and friendly though at the end it was hard to get their attention to get the bill. We both decided to finally try the summer wine - red wine with lemon soda. OK we have now tried it - enough said. My wife ordered their vegetable tempura sushi which was very good. We again tried the "winter version" of gazpacho soup that is popular in Andalusia. Again quite tasty. I went in around 230pm and the waitstaff was pretty busy which was expected. I asked to sit at the end of the counter as there were two chairs there and they said yes. Ambiance wasn't great as they were loudly slamming plates next to me as the dishwasher was right in front of me, again my decision to sit there so Not blaming them for that. Some seats further down the bar away from the noise opened and I asked to move there and they said no. Those seats sat empty for 15 minute until people walking in sat there. The issue was the service. It seemed like no one was in charge of taking care of me. I had to flag someone down each time. I understand Spanish and kept hearing them ask who was helping me and no one was claiming me therefore a lot was missed. I ordered a bottle of water from the guy behind the bar and he forgot it. I ordered the croquetas and calamari. Croquetas came out in a couple of minutes but the calamari never came out. I finally after 15 min and they gave them to me after I asked. I heard the cook saying in Spanish that those were for another table so it appears my order was never put in. I ordered a drink from the same guy, he forgot it. So about half the things I ordered were forgotten. The croquetas were delish but the calamari was bland and not worth the wait. We luckily were staying across the street, so we could easily decide if they were too busy (and they do get busy with a 4.6 star rating from 3,100 reviews on google alone) and stop in when it wasn't. We must have stopped there three times over the three days we were in Seville. My pictures really don't do the food justice, and as elsewhere in Spain, the prices were very affordable. Compared to the many other tapas bars in Barrio Santa Cruz, the menu at La Bartola was compact, innovative, and globally-influenced, with a number of off-menu "chalkboard specials". We started with Humus de Trufa (truffle hummus), a smooth purée of chickpeas and tahini laced with aromatic truffle oil, sesame seeds, dried tomatoes, and crunchy chips. The Tataki de Salmon was a grilled salmon fillet topped with bonito flakes and served with a beet mayonnaise. The salmon was cooked to a perfect melt-in-the-mouth consistency, and the artful plating with the purple mayonnaise was particular memorable. The Arroz Rojo Thai was a dish of Thai red rice layered with aromatic chopped vegetables (including onions, peppers, and squash) and served with a creamy, slightly spicy romesco sauce. The Chipirones con Verduras were simply grilled squid tubes and tentacles served over stir-fried chopped vegetables including broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. And for a modern take on a Spanish dish, we ended with the Carrillada Ibérica, a traditional stew of pork cheeks, but the tender meat in this version was served over a super creamy, cheesy potato parmentier purée that took the flavors to the next level! My mom and I came here for lunch after looking around at a few places. We didn't have reservations, but we were seated inside right away. I'm gluten-free and dairy-free, so having the menu with an allergen key made my life easier and avoided the awkward questioning of the server, which I hate to do. What We Ordered: -Gluten-free bread (I'm gluten-free): I appreciate that they had this. We used it as a vehicle for the eggplant dish and ham we'd ordered, but I don't think it's worth ordering even if you're gluten-free. It's just sliced bread and not the best quality gluten-free bread (it's the "well, I just ate air or cardboard" type). If they had gluten-free rolls or baguette-type bread they toasted up (heck, even crackers!), then we'd be in business. -Jamon Iberico de Bellota (Iberian ham): This was standard and of course good. Make sure to order the gluten-free version if you need to. Very thinly cut, so it wasn't as hearty as we expected and we ended up ordering more dishes to round things out. -Caponata (cooked salad with eggplants, tomatoes, olives, and pine nuts): Think dressed-up ratatouille as a sort of chunkier dip like bruschetta versus a "salad-salad". I love all the ingredients listed and that's exactly what it tastes like. I'd recommend eating it atop some bread. It would be excellent layered with cheese (it was good layered with the Iberico). -Saquitos de Calabacin con Ragu de Verduras (zucchini sachets stuffed with mixed vegetables): A great vegetarian offering if you need it! It was light and the sauce was a romesco I believe. The two sachets were on a little bed of quinoa with the sauce on top. -A special of the day Iberico Lomo Saltado I think(?): This was both our favorites. The meat was succulent and perfectly crisp on the outside. This is no dry pork loin! Each piece was served on a roasted and lightly smashed gold potato atop a gravy-like sauce and kissed with large flecks of sea salt that made the flavors sing. Hopefully it's a special when you come too because it melts in your mouth and makes your taste buds dance! -Olives were provided We were pretty hungry from a light early breakfast, so I think ordering four tapas and the bread was okay for us. We ordered too light at first and then added a second round of two tapas. If we'd known going in, we would've been okay skipping the bread and Jamon Iberico de Bellota (splitting three to four tapas between two people). We didn't order any special drinks, but they have a good selection of wine and beer available. Overall, this place had a nice presentation and everything we ordered was delicious. It's a great option for some fresh and creative but classic tapas. The menu labeling and awareness of the staff also make it an easy option if you're dealing with dietary restrictions (gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, etc.). We love "Alfalfa", which is nearby, and this place seems to be very similar so we decided to try it out. You can tell who did their research because right at noon, us and two other tourists were already waiting for the doors to open. It was our last day in Seville before we had to hop on the train so we decided to get an early lunch here. We ended up getting the calamari, the iberico wok and the lamb with couscous. Everything was excellent and very affordable. It was so comforting eating something stir fry as I hadn't in two weeks so the wok was probably my favorite, followed by the cous cous dish.
