The hummus was the best of everything we ordered. The beriany and kabseh both lacked flavor and seasoning. It was just boiled meat served with mild spiced rice. I wish they marinated the meat with arabic spices. They have 2 restis one for reserved folks and others for walk ins I guess. Both places looked empty to be honest. Service was good Ambience is okay. Needed fiber! Came to have a vegetarian meal and complement the heavy meat diet of Spanish food. Got the fattoush and falafel to start. The fattoush was very fresh though I wish the dressing was lighter. The pomegranate molasses and crunch from the pita pieces was nice but it was a tad too sour. The falafel was perfect and paired well with the pickles and radish. Wish there was a tad more tahini. The majddara was too bland and oily. Delicious and decently priced food. Made reservations for dinner a week before our trip. They had us in the Terraza portion of the restaurant that did not have air conditioning. We were tucked in a corner, and asked to be moved, to be closer to the fan but they misunderstood and thought we wanted the air conditioned side, which we happily accepted but I think the request irritated them. It took a while to be served but the restaurant was very busy. There was an obnoxious English speaker who was listening to videos on her phone and no one said anything to her. She was too far from us to say something but we could hear her phone loud and clear! We really liked the hummus and cannot believe I didn't get a photo, all of the lamb dishes were outstanding. We had different favorites for the main dish, each one of us liked a different lamb dish as the best. While service was slow, it was friendly and the food was delicious. After touring the cathedral it was time for lunch. We wanted to try Alwadi because we like Mediterranean food and there was SALAD on the menu. After days of Andalusien food with very little green in it, we wanted salad. My wife had the Alwadi salad with beautiful lettuce, candied nuts, fruits, tomato and a marvelous sauce. Absolutely loved this place, the team and the food. I didn't have a reservation and they got me in. I also wanted to take food back to my family that was tired from traveling all day and it was no problem. The Birany de pollo was delicious and recommended by the team, not dry or creamy but something in between. Pretty decent food. Came here for a midnight meal and got some hummus, babbaghanouj, tabbouleh, and a chicken shawarma. Food was served quickly. Service was good as well. Only problem was that most of the food was under seasoned. Total came to roughly €40, which I thought was high for under-seasoned food. This is the real deal! You know you are eating authentic food when many of customers are Syrian and Lebanese. The shish taouk was a delicious marinaded chicken cooked over charcoal grill. Unbelievably delicious! Hummus was great, tabbouleh was delicious and the Yallanji (stuffed grape leaves) were totally unique. Portions are huge so be careful with over ordering like I did. The tagine isn't a personal size but enough for two or more. Great English spoken here and had a great welcome from the employees here. They were extremely attentive and very generous. The tagine had a heck ton of cinnamon, more than I would've liked and would've been nicer if there was some rice or bread to go with it. The shawarma was okay, probably the better shawarmas I've had in Spain but no where close to the best I've had in my life. The cheese bread was enjoyable and I ended up having to take it to go because we had ordered so much food we couldn't eat everything in front of us. It kept really well and I ate it over the next day. The Patatas picante were very flavorful here but wish there was some sauce to go with it since they felt a little dry without. They were garnished with pomegranate seeds which made for a great and unexpected flavor combo. We totally planned to come back but completely forgot. After eating Spanish food for a week we were ready for something different and decided to try Alwadi based on the reviews. We both love middle eastern food and were excited by the breadth of items on the menu. We started with the vegetarian grape leaves (doulmas) and the baba ghanoush. They were made with good ingredients but both had way too much lemon for our taste and we didn't really enjoy them. For our entree we split the chicken skewers which were served with French fries (not rice). The chicken was tender white meat and was quite good. The portions were large and this was just enough food. We also ordered a bottle of wine which they were out of, so opted for another bottle of white which was drinkable but not great. Compared with other middle eastern restaurants I've been to (albeit not in Seville) I consider the menu items we ordered at Alwadi to be average. I still would give it another try to try some other items. read more

We had a nice meal here on our final night in Sevilla -- and a nice break from the Andalusian places where we have been dining regularly. We began with hummus, muharrama (excellent) and falafel -- the latter turned out to be a huge hit with young Essam so we ordered a second portion. Soraya and Nafisa got shish -- ground beef and chicken - and Abe got a chicken shawarma, but the huge hits were two lamb dishes, fatet lahem and Moroccan couscous (pictured). I had ordered mjaddarah assuming it was an appetizer but it came late in the meal still welcome. If we were staying in Seville we might well have come back. A Middle Eastern restaurant of absolute distinction. * * * The menu here is pan-Arab. There is one token Moroccan dish. There is Mjaddara which is as Egyptian as you can get. There are lots and lots of Syrian/Lebanese dishes. And they have Saudi dishes. Saudi dishes are hard to find. Some of the customers looked very Saudi ... But I don't know if management itself is Saudi. Pan-anything restaurants tend to be poor, Whether they are pan-Asian, pan-Latin or pan-Middle-Eastern. Al Wadi is a conspicuous exception to the above rule. The food here is absolutely outstanding. * * * Alwadi makes the best falafel I have ever seen. I get served lots of falafel in the United States - And have had falafel in other places in France, England and Spain. Alwadi's version is the best of them all. Alwadi's falafel has a crust. That crust has a char. The crust and the char make all the difference on the planet. There is some cooking trick they have in Alwadi's kitchen that they don't have in the other places I have seen. But they turn falafel from "that's nice dear" to "seriously good eating". * * * The star of the show was Hummus with Meat. This means Hummus with savory ground beef on top. This is the most filling dish I have ever eaten in my life. I skipped the pita which you usually use to pick up your hummus. The pita at Alwadi are huge, and would have made the dish twice as filling. I just ate the dish out of the serving plate unadorned. It was addictive. It was comforting. It was something I just wanted more and more of. Now, individually, I have had better hummus at other places. And individually, I have had better ground beef at other places. (Mexican places make picadillo to die for). But this combination with their recipe of hummus going amazingly well with their recipe for ground beef ... This combo was an overwhelming winner. After that appetizer, I was stuffed to the gills and could barely get out of my chair. But I will comment on the dishes that followed. a) My wife loved her biryani with vegetables. b) The Mjaddara (rice and lentils and onions) is basically a homecooking dish. I have seen other versions with macaroni tossed in as well. This version however is very good. They really really saute the ingredients to be well done - and they really really caramelize the onions. Caramelized onions make everything wonderful - including Mjaddara. c) The baklava is outstanding. I personally am a baklava hater. I usually skip the desserts in Middle Eastern places and go for ice cream instead. THIS baklava was different. I didn't get enough baklava to be able to make any kind of analytical judgements. (My wife ordered the baklava and had no intention of losing her dessert to my taste tests.) But they are on to some superior dessert trick that with enough baklava under my belt I could figure out. d) Teas are generally excellent in Middle Eastern restaurants - often better than the coffee. We had a mint tea that was outstanding - made with fresh high quality mint. P.S. You would think this world traveler would be smarter about this - but I was not. Don't drink the tea at the very bottom of your pot If you are in a serious tea brewing establishment, The tea at the very bottom will be stronger and bitterer than the rest of the pot. Leave well enough alone. If you want more tea - order a second pot. * * * Overall, an establishment well worth multiple visits. I for one am very very curious about the grilled meats. read more

What a gem. My husband and I were so happy we found this place. The food is delicious and the service is wonderful. We returned in a couple days for another lovely meal. Altogether we ordered lamb kabsah, chicken shawerma, shish tawouk adani (spicy) & beef arayes. All the dishes were 10/10 from the quality to the flavor. Went there with high expectations after reading the 5* reviews. Quite underwhelmed by the food. We went there pretty late around 10 and the restaurant was quite full. They accommodated us and seated us quickly. Service was fast. We ordered 3 dishes - Chicken Shwamarma, the only lamb dish available, Vegetarian biryani and falafel. The non- veg items were well cooked but very low on spices and heat. This was in spite of requesting picante sauce in the hopes of adding some kick. The veg items were OK per the person who consumed them. In the plus side, the Sangria was liked, and the Alhambra were was crisp. Probably popular with the EU folks who have not been exposed to real Afghan/Indian spices but for a connoisseur of rich spicy food, my partner and came away unimpressed. read more
