Gus BBQ is one of the newest businesses in the new development. I believe it opened some time last week. They have a *fantastic* happy hour (Monday-Friday 3PM-6PM) menu - which admittedly is what got me in the door. Some of the Happy Hour highlights include: $ 7 well drinks $ 3 select beers (think PBR, Fat Tyre, Coors) $ 7 house old fashioned $ 4 mini pulled pork or brisket sandwich with a side of fries or coleslaw $ 6.00 pork nachos $ 3 fried pickles As you can see the prices are amazing! I was disappointed that at 330 PM they were already out of fried pickles (sigh) but there were plenty of other options to choose on the menu - and as a newer business I understand that they still have yet to figure out what their big sellers will be. We were served by Breyenne - who was very nice and took the time to explain several different aspects of the menus to us. All of the staff we were served by were very nice. We came with our toddler and asked to sit on the patio and they had a nice little side patio where we noticed they were putting the majority of families with small kids (a win for everyone - I felt like I didn't have to worry when my son would excited toddler squeal every time he would see french fries). I really liked the decor of Gus' it was cute. Also the patio was enclosed by the plastic windows so even though it was breezy we were kept comfortable. We went a little ham with the menu - ordering from both the happy hour, regular, dessert, and kids menus. For this visit we ordered the following: * Happy Hour Old Fashioned (Delicious! Strong! Highly recommended!) * Happy Hour Pork Sandwich w/ coleslaw (yummy! I'm on a diet so I felt like the sandwich was a good size - I didn't feel like a glutton but I got to enjoy it) * Happy Hour Brisket and Potato taquitos (crunchy, with a delicious sauce) * Happy Hour Mule (Tasty, but out of the two drinks the winner was the OF) * Rib & 2 meat combo (regular menu item) with brisket, pulled pork, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes (big enough for 2 to share IMO) * Kids grilled cheese with fresh fruit and french fries (for $5.95 this AMAZED me. It was such a HUGE portion I consider it to be adult sized. The grilled cheese was good too. It was nice bread and toasted nicely.) * An ice cream sundae (made with Fosselmans ice cream - to share of course). I was very pleased with the value for money of the items. Especially the kids meal - as a grown ass adult I would be more than happy to eat that myself. Also they took the time to put everything nicely on the plate not just schlep down a half toasted sandwich and some grapes like other places. The drinks from the bar took a little while to come out - but they were worth the wait. I felt toasty after one OF. Parking is (obviously) a non-issue in this complex and with the addition of the AMC (it's getting closer to being done) this is going to be a fun little place to hang out. read more

Gus's BBQ has been getting so many Yelp reviews I had to come in so we stopped by just for a beer and apps on Sunday. When we walked up to the door we could see the place was packed for dinner so I asked the hostess if the bar was open and she said "yes open seating there". The bar, is currently only the bar itself which had around 20 stools and the two outside patios. I say that because there is seating in the same area so I wanted to make sure myself. My wife and I grabbed a couple of open stools and were giving a friendly greeting. We tasted a couple of beers on the very decent crafted types and both opted for Milk Stouts. We placed an order for the deviled eggs and cornbread. The bartenders at Gus's were all exceptional, friendly, attentive and we were constantly attended to when we were there. So good job for that because they were busy....! We got the eggs and the cornbread before we knew it and both were excellent. On the deviled egg tray there is a small place for seasoned salt that we didn't notice so please apply as your tastes desire. The Happy Hour prices looked great for the 3PM - 6PM hours so we will definitely be back to come for that and since several people ordered off the menu while we were at the bar the food looked great. read more

Our favorite food is BBQ and we go all over the country eating it. Our absolute favorite place is Gus's in Porter Ranch. It's amazing. The food (spare ribs, brick chicken, brisket, tri tip, sausage...I could go on) is amazing. The wait staff is spectacular. Managers Ashley and Christine are fantastic and run an absolutely smooth customer-centered operation. I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves BBQ. Bbq in the valley! Love this spot as you are able to get your bbq craving satisfied. They have some options that will have your taste buds drooling. The Memphis style ribs with two meat choices is one of my favs. I usually get the pulled pork and cheese and jalepeno filled sausage, with a side of mac and cheese with meat filled bbq beans. Went for happy hour for 2 on a Tuesday evening. We arrived a little before 5pm. You can sit at the bar or patio. We love sitting outside and it was nice weather so we sat outside. It was perfect! Especially since they have heat lamps above. That was great! We started with a sangria and an old fashion. Both were good. I also got an unsweetened passion fruit iced tea that was good too. For food we got... -HH fried pickles -HH pulled pork nachos -HH deviled eggs -HH rib sliders -corn bread (not HH) -cheeseburger sliders (not HH, 3 in order) All was good. The favorites of ours were definitely the fried pickles, cheeseburger sliders, and cornbread!!!! Yum yum yum! SO good! The fried pickles breading/batter was great! The ranch was a nice dipping sauce too :-p The burgers were juicy and hot and flavorful! The cane with cheese and onion strings. The corn bread came out hot and delicious in a little mini cast iron pan with honey butter and pepper jelly on the side. I must say that the chips in the nachos were very good! I was debating on the nachos (HH) or the spinach and artichoke dip (not HH). So we went with the nachos, so next time we'll get the spinach dip. I think that's the way to go for me since I'm not a big fan of pulled pork dishes...but i am a person that tries food. On the table were 3 different bbq sauces and a hot sauce in a squeeze bottle. All the bbq sauces were very good. I really liked the spicy one and the Carolina mustard was pretty good too and I don't like mustard. I put a drop of each on my little appetizer plate to taste before the food came. I tasted them in their own and then all together. Mixed was really good too. Sarah was our server and she was sweet. It started to get really busy after 5:30-5:45. We came at a good time. The restaurant and bar are all pretty. *on a side note....the patio (red stool) chairs are not comfortable. Came for lunch here yesterday, early 4th of July celebration with my sis. She was craving for some good barbecue. I'm not much of a meat eater but it's my cheat day weekend so I was game. Anyway, this place has good service, food delivered was nice and hot. I got the baby back ribs because the waitress said it has more meat in them and less fat. I'm ashamed to say, after my mouth tasted those fall off of the bone ribs, it couldn't stop till the bones were cleaned- lol. I loved that they had different sauces on the table. This Porter Ranch location is part of the Gus's BBQ family, that started in South Pasadena in 1946. This locations is GORGEOUS, with plenty of free parking. The staff is very friendly and eager to please. Great food! There are not many places that make brisket, and theirs is delicious. My favorite is the brisket quesadilla with jicama slaw. Just full of so much flavor with corn, red onions, dripping with cheese, jalapeno aioli and lots of big chunks of brisket. The only disappointment is you can no longer order a pound of brisket to go. You have to order a minimum of 5 pounds, which is absolutely RIDICULOUS ... especially since you can still order their sides by the quart. Really, really upsetting. Be sure to get their BBQ beans to take home - absolutely LOADED with meat - a meal on its own. read more

We came to Gus's to celebrate my brother's 19th birthday. Gus's is one of our favorite places for BBQ as a family. We were all so impressed with our waiter Paul B and wanted to give him an extra shout out for the lovely experience! He was friendly, attentive, personable, engaging, and very kind. I was in Porter Ranch because I had to return an Amazon item and decided I needed to get some lunch so I saw Gus BBQ and remembered I have eaten there in Pasadena and wanted to try this one out. I went around lunchtime at 1:30 and the restaurant was about half full. I ate on the patio and there was a nice breeze. They had both fans and heaters on the patio. The waitress came promptly and asked if I knew what I want it and I ordered the wedge salad, deviled eggs, and a side of brisket (I wanted some barbecue although I didn't want a whole lot, so I was super happy they let me order a side of meat). The deviled eggs came out within 10 minutes of ordering and they were pretty good. They had a salt seasoning in the middle to sprinkle over the eggs. My only complaint is that I wish the bacon was the same texture as the ones that came on the wedge salad. The wedge salad with the side of 5 ounce brisket was just the right serving for lunch. As mentioned before the bacon on the salad was really good and flavorful and the brisket was tender and easy to chew. The barbecue sauce was slightly on the salty side and not as flavorful as I wished it could have been but it was still good. When it was time to pay, the waitress brought a machine to the table and was able to close out right then and there which I always like at a restaurant. There was plenty of parking because the restaurant is next to a movie theater and in an area where there are a lot of other restaurants and shops. I would come back. read more

Been waiting for more food establishments to open up in the new Porter a ranch Vineyards. When Gus's opened I was excited but wanted to wait a bit for the lines to die down, so I went yesterday. Was still busy but not as hectic the weekend before. We had a choice between immediate seating outside or waiting 30 minutes for an indoor seat. We were hungry so we opted for the former and sat in the patio which is next to an open play area with seats and a Cornhole game. The weather was great so lots of people outside. The menu had a lot of options. I could have gone any number of ways. Naturally I wanted to go bbq but I was intrigued by the chicken and waffles they only offer on the weekends. It came with watermelon. The wife got the peppercorn tri trip, which came with two sides - she chose fries and coleslaw. The service was great. Shoutout to Ryan for being very attentive and helpful despite how busy it was. The food was delicious and plentiful. I got 2 huge chicken pieces with lots of yummy fried skin and 2 full waffles. We ended up taking leftovers home because it was so much. I definitely plan to go back and trying one of their meat platters which comes with choice of ribs and choice of meat sides, like smoked sausage. The outside of the building was beautiful and they have a spacious outside patio, along with indoor seating. My friend ordered a full rack of baby back ribs, green beans, and fries. We shared the cornbread in a skillet. Ordered a tri tip sandwich with beans and a side of Mac and cheese. The ribs were meaty, flavorful and hearty serving, those pigs were good breathers. The green beans had subtle garlic taste and cooked well (not blanched). Fries were fries. The corn bread tasted like birthday cake with hint of jalapeno, delicious jelly and butter condiment. The beans felt like a campout, would order again. The mac & cheese was good, not soupy or casserole like. The sandwich was mainly onion rings (think Frenches onion bits In a can) and cheese, scant amount of meat. The waitress was very attentive and reported the displeasure of the sandwich. They credited the charge and gave a portion of tri tip for service recovery. The waitress and servers were awesome in team work. Would probably go for meat combo than a sandwich again. Food was so so. The chicken, ribs and brisket we ordered had a sour aftertaste that wasn't from any spice or sauce used. it was more from improper smoiking of the meats. I get that we all have bad days but to not show enthusiasm or even a bit of a smile to your patrons who are actually there to try you out, makes you not want to come back. We find that Lucilles tasted better and the service we've had from Lucilles had always been very good to excellent. The service started with an unethusiastic introduction from the waitress. When our first appetizer arrived, we had to ask for small plates 3 times before we were given them. I have to be honest and liked their queso with smoked pork. It took about 15 minutes before we got our small plates by the way after the queso was served.We had to also ask what happened to our other 2 appetizers. They came a few minutes later. I had the wings and did not notice the spinach dip until the wife complained that it was not good. When I did check, I could tell right away that it sat on the heat lamp for awhile as the topped looked dry and gummy. The first 2 people we asked for small plates either forgot us or just had no interest about our request. The third looked like a manager and took care of it right away. The inside of the restaurant looks great, airy and with comfortable seats. We were sat outside since we took first available table. The seats did not have any cushions as if to say, eat then leave. Overall, I could care less about this restaurant, looks pretty but the food is lacking and the service we had was very disappointing. Pretentious to say the least. Expensive for crap.. lol. Giving them 2 stars for the restaurant looks and location. Food and service can be improved. Pattons pay a lot of money to be eating crappy food. Gus, please don't serve improperly smoked meats.
