We came in last Saturday night with a very large group to watch the Notre Dame/Southern Cal game. The bar has a great vibe, was extremely welcoming and did a great job of making the event a success. Gus' Snug is a welcome addition to Clawson! It has great beers and a wonderful selection of whiskies and great food, so you can't go wrong. We sat in the "snug", a narrow, small dining area with a long thin table and a tv to boot. It is perfect for knocking some pints back with 5 of your friends, but I wouldn't eat a meal here unless you have under four as the table will not accommodate all the food for the six stools in the snug. We ordered a Guinness and a Kilkenny Cream Ale (Highly recommended) and the pretzels, poutine and a pub burger to share. The poutine was delicious with an onion gravy and a fried egg on top. The burger was massive and came with a basket of hot, yummy fries. We split it three ways and we all had plenty. It was the best burger I have had around here! We also tried the corned beef and cabbage, which was perfectly cooked! The only disappointment was the pretzels which came with cheese sauce which were both "meh" , so I would skip those. Our friends took our recommendation and went for lunch the next day and said the potato leek soup, fish sandwich and fish and chips were excellent! They have live music four nights and Sunday night is Irish music. The wait staff was super helpful and enthusiastic, they even gave us the history of a "snug". I am looking forward to coming back! We have not had the opportunity to dine in at Gus' snug, but we did order carryout. The positive was the employee that answered the phone was very friendly, and the chicken tenders were very good. However, we ordered two burgers and one kids burger. The kids burger was raw inside and not edible, one of the burgers was suppose to be medium well and was super red inside and not edible. The third burger was ordered well done and it indeed was overly well done. Best part was their Donegal chips! Very disappointing first visit. read more

Love this place. Usually just get a few apps to share. Their boozy seltzers are great and refreshing. Best scotch egg I've had in ages, and the bangers and mash app is enough for a meal. My only issue is when they have live music, it is difficult to talk. But the music is always good. Just plan your visit for more listening, less chatting if there is someone performing. read more

I was so happy when it was announced that an Irish pub was coming to clawson, and Gus' truly knocked it out of the park. Cute ambiance, attentive waiters, and food that has us back more than once in their brief stint of being open. Their chicken sandwich and turkey Rueben were both some of the best. I love the snug! this bar has an amazing atmosphere, delicious food and service that keeps me coming back. So much I stopped in Friday and Saturday this weekend. I need to express love for the female bartenders!! Megan and Mikayla made Saturday a blast, it's always a treat having either one take care of you. Late Friday night I went in to enjoy live music because my favorite "JIBS" was preforming. Jess was the only reason we stayed at the bar. I think Alex was the other bartender, he was quite rude and seemed to be miserable doing his job? I'm not sure if the waitress had other things she wanted to do or what, but she definitely did not want to wait on us. I got a Reuben and a cup of potato leek soup. The Reuben wasn't the best or worst I have ever had. The potato leek soup was good after I added a lot of salt. The highlight of my meal was the Irish coffee. It was delicious! I live in Clawson and we love our Mexican and Asian go to eateries, but we've needed Gus' for awhile. It's an Irish bar with great food (bangers and mash, burger and calamari I can actually vouch for). The other food looked very good coming out of the kitchen. Staff is well trained (I think they have staff from the Rochester. store helping...smart!). If you come, come early! It's been very busy, but that's a good thing! Place just isn't that good. Service isn't great, female bartender was inattentive, and when she did interact, you couldn't hear her and the atmosphere wasn't even loud.. Food is very basic. And my personal pet peeve, they cram like 12 bar chairs when there's only room for 8 comfortably, 9 crammed. I moved once, and was inquired to move 2 additional times. Wanted to try something different, one of the new restaurants in Clawson. We choose this one based on food costs. We got there about 6:30 to 40 minute wait. Which wasn't terrible for Saturday night. Atmosphere was busy the bar looks amazing inside. We got our seats in about 30 minutes. We ordered French onion soup & corn beef and cabbage. The french one soup was a awful example id give it 1.4 out of 10. Bowl wasn't even full, baked cheese barely existed, bowl only 2/3 full. Corn beef came in a bowl with so much sauce i thought i was getting soup. Horseradish sauce cup floating in it. All & all good flavor just wish was plated not in a bowl. Our friends got shepherds pie & chicken tenders. Shepherds pie $19 for tiny little bowl. Glad i didnt get that. Chicken was good. I left still hungry. read more

First visit as yesterday. I had the Guinness Stew and it was fabulous! The meat was super tender and when the owner came by to see if we were happy with our meal, I asked him about it. I cook a LOT and have made this stew before, but his was so much better. Cooking just the meat longer in a dutch oven, adding the veggies that are cooked separately, later.
