My friend and I came here on a Saturday evening in this summer and it was basically the only place in the downtown Birmingham area that had space available and that probably should've been a red flag. We tried at least calling or walking to 10+ places around downtown beforehand too, so it wasn't for lack of trying. When we walked into Dick O' Dows it was nearly empty, and this was prime dinnertime as well on the weekend. There were maybe only 20% of the tables occupied, which was really surprising, given how jam packed every other place was. There wasn't anyone to seat us after we waited about 3 minutes at the front, so we went ahead and found an open booth and seated ourselves. We waited probably around 5 more minutes before a waiter came to our table and gave us menus. The service wasn't bad, just slow, which was extra surprising given how little people were in the restaurant to begin with. Our waitress was actually super friendly and my friend who is gluten free had a lot of questions for her that she was very knowledgeable on or would check with others to get the correct answers, so that was really appreciated. Other than that, everything else was unremarkable. The food was fine, but nothing to write home about certainly, and I left our meal feeling underwhelmed, but just happy that we got to find a place to sit down and catch up. I won't be recommending this spot to anyone anytime soon, but might try it again if I find myself in a similar predicament where I find myself in Birmingham without a reservation on a very busy night.

I'm well-endowed, and so is Dick O Endowed. In fact I believe he's named after me. Anyway. This Irish Pub was pretty cool. Lots of cute girls and very busy on a Saturday night. Lots of cute people of both genders. I was privileged to listen to some nice local music inside, of the Indie kind, and it looked like Alex L was playing drums. We shared a few drinks with some cute friends. Good times in the posh rich white burbs of Detroit. Sorry if I just made a Dick remark. I'm off to my van now to be a girl and make out with a girl, like that old actor. Dick Van oh it's time to move on to the next review.

Very nice staff and excellent food. Also a great environment. You still have the old Irish bar feel upfront with a newer vibe and back.

Great beer and the flatbread was really good! Loved the vibe and environment too. A little pricey.

The ambiance is very fun and cool, 50's to 60's themed with lots of neon, gas pump signs, old cigarette machines. Service was top notch, with the manager or owner checking on us as well as the server. Food was solid bar food, good and no surprises. We split some apps, and the beef bites were a pleasant surprise. I'd pass on the nachos next time, but the pizza was good too. If you haven't been, give them a try. There's a reason why they've been around so long.

Second, the food is always below average. Even for fried bar food, Duggans underwhelms. Third, the waitresses and bartenders always act like you are bothering them by merely existing. The one tall brunette bartender upstairs who is more attractive and friendly than the rest of them is amazing - but the rest of them are abrasive and bad at their jobs. The owner is clueless and cares only about the bottom line. He has run other bars into the ground and will probably do the same here. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a mysterious kitchen fire one night and the whole place burns in an attempt to collect insurance proceeds - that's just the kind of vibe you get here

The…read moremenu for this restaurant falls along the lines of an expanded bar/Bistro menu with a heavy emphasis on sandwiches, wraps and burgers. Having heard good things about their Burgers I opted to go with their Classic Cheeseburger and fries for $15 and two of their house margarita's which were the drink of the day on Tuesdays for $5 apiece. Realtive to the burger, it was quite large at 1/2 lb and definately a two hander. It was well made, quite juicy, with fresh veggies and very very tasty. The fries were well made as well with a nice crunchy texture and quite tasty in their own right. Lastly my two Margarita's very well made and oh so good where I had only planned on getting one but opted for two after the first sip. NICE! At $5 a piece this was an absolute steal! Relative to facility and staff, the restaurant is visually very appealing with vibrant Irish accents, neon sign's everywhere and TV's scattered to allow you to watch the big game of the day while enjoying your meal. The decor defiantely adds a lot to the dining experience. Staff was very friendly with great follow up throughout. Overall this is a great bar/restaurant whose reputation is well deserved. I definately will be returning in the near future, probably on a Tuesday, so I can get some more of those tasty margarita's. :)

Our server Scott was a sweetheart and the food came out pretty quickly. He even made me a mocktail that wasn't on the menu with grapefruit juice, cranberry juice and soda. My favorite item was the filet tips- the quality of meat was so good and it was seasoned well. It came with some goat cheese, peppers and arugula. I will say that it was a rather small portion of food though- maybe 6-8 bites of meat. The lamb lollipops were good with the balsamic drizzle but I preferred the filet tips since they were leaner. We also got the beet salad, the vinaigrette was good but otherwise the salad was just ok. Edamame was standard. Veggie/hummus tray was fresh. Lettuce wraps were good but had a bit of a kick. Service was a little slow on getting those first drinks... My issue was two things. At least a few times, I heard people who work there saying how great everything is. How great the HH is. Clearly they are hoping you order something when it's not HH, as the regular food / prices are about as high as I've seen for what they offer. Not sure we'll be back.
