Went to Guns Plus to use their gunsmith services to replace a 300 Blackout barrel with a 5.56 Barrel on my upper AR-15 receiver. (See attached receipt). I took the rifle to the range and it would not fire correctly. The rifle was under pressure I thought it was no big deal. I'll just return to Guns Plus and the gunsmith will fix whatever problems there were with the upper receiver. *Their diagnosis was a bad bolt carrier group was causing the problem with the rifle* And charge me an additional $81 for parts and service I didn't need (See attached receipt) Went back to the range, I put in a new bolt carrier group that I knew was good and the rifle still would not fire correctly, still under pressure. At this time I paid Guns Plus a total of $118.00 for service and parts and my rifle still does not fire correctly. So I took it to a different gunsmith shop and had a total inspection of the rifle to find out what the problem was. And the problem was the barrel had a .075 gasport which is very ammo sensitive. The Fix : The new gunsmith drilled the gas port out to a size of .081 and dimple the barrel so the gas block would sit on the barrel better. The owner will probably reply to my complaint saying it's the customers fault. For some reason this company always blames the customer. ( it's one of those companies) you know what I mean. Very much price gouging there ammo. When I see 50 Ae Hornady hollow points going for $34 and then 9mm hollow points across the shelf from 40-50 dollars. How does that work the 50 ae has more casing more powder more projectile. And it less expensive. same with 6.5 Creedmoor growing in popularity it's like $69 for target ammo. and then the less common newer round 6mm arc red tip ammo going for a normal price of $39. An known the less 22lr common and popular going for $45 for a 100 rounds of cheap plinking bullets. When I can go to reds and get it for $9. And the excuse is it's hard to get and you have box's and box's of ammo on the ground. And every customer in there buy the ammo was talking about it your just trying to profit. And it's not right. I know your a small Business but it's a little much gun show aren't even charging this much.. read more

Overpromising and never delivering: I hired guns plus to do some gunsmithing work for me. They promised me that it would take min. 2 months. I stopped by at month 3 they said I was next up on the work list. I stop by at month 4. They told me it was in the shop right now being worked on which I know now to be a lie. I stop by at almost the 5 month mark and had to take my stuff back. it was still sitting in the box that I'd brought it to them in. Took them 2 months to thread a barrel 2 years ago after committing to 2 weeks. read more

What a rip off! First off this place bills itself as being a full service gun store (FFL transfers, Class III, shoot range, etc.) However, in light of recent events they are absolutely gouging their customers. As an example there are selling 30 round PMags for $39.95 (Retail price from Magpul is $14.xx). Another example is them selling AR15 Stripped Lowers for $325.xx when that same lower has been advertised in the past for $65!! The absolute insult is they wanted to change 10% more when I asked to buy two. I get it is their full right to charge whatever price they want and the customers right not to pay. However, gouging their customers is not a way to win over business. If this whole madness with AR15's blows over then they will still have to answer to their customers. I would stick with GT Distributors who has vowed to not raise prices to make a quick buck. GT Distributors understands customer loyalty and satisfaction. They understand that though making money and selling products is important but so is making the customer happy thus generating a loyal repeat customer. Avoid Guns Plus. read more

I was just looking up the phone number for Guns Plus when I noticed the yelp reviews for Guns Plus. Well to say I am surprised to see any negativity is an understatement. When I arrived here from Australia in 2010 my brother in law and I decided to get our CHL's (Concealed Handgun License). We went to Guns Plus to look at guns and arrange for a time to get our CHL's. When we arrived everyone was so happy to help. The staff are all very knowledgeable, and the prices were very fair. When I went to the CHL class I had no idea what to expect. To say the least it was an eye opening experience. Steve the owner taught my class, and as he is a Police Officer as well, he was able to describe in great detail all that information in a very concise and informative way. I have since bought 3 guns from Guns Plus. Every time I go in it has been great. Even if you just drop in for some helpful information the guys are always happy to help. Also for the gentleman Adam C. that made the comment "due to skin color" Just so you know my father is as you put it missing some pigment (I think what you mint to say was full of pigment knowing darker people have more pigment than lighter people) is anything but white and he loves shopping at Guns Plus and has always been treated with the upmost respect, I am sorry to hear that you felt that way. I don't know why others are leaving such bad feedback. I went into Guns plus today for my first time and I thought they were great. I was looking to buy and AR 15 and while others didn't have any in stock, guns plus had a nice selection and the prices were right as well. I had my eye on a Colt AR, but they didn't have the exact model I was looking for in stock (nobody does). I wasn't really sure what I wanted then, and the salesmen helped me out and set me up with a Core 15 which has a no hassle lifetime warranty. I was very pleased with their recommendation and can't wait to take it to the shooting range. The only reason I left 4 stars instead of 5 is because yes, they did mark up some of their items like hard to find ammo and the magazines. While I don't completely agree with the practice, it is their business decision. If you don't like the price you can just not buy it there or anywhere else because nobody else has any of it in stock at the moment. Overall though, I was very satisfied with Guns Plus and thought the salesmen were friendly and helpful. While everyone has a right to their opinion, mine was that it's a great place to go for your shooting needs. I will visit guns plus again in the future. read more

Hi everyone, I wanted to take the time to say THANK YOU to the staff at Guns Plus for treating with me with dignity, respect, and educating me! I recently decided to buy my first pistol and went to Academy Sports and Outdoors in Georgetown where the guys at the gun counter wouldn't even acknowledge me. I then went Bass Pro Shop in Round Rock where they sold me a right handed gun when I am left handed. Thankfully I singed up for some lessons with Grant and LTC class with Stephen from Guns Plus. Grant took the time to educate me all aspects of being a gun owner. Never once did I feel silly for what I had bought and the reasons I was told I needed to buy it. He explained why it wasn't a good fit and had practice guns with him that I could try. After my lesson we went back to the store and Guns Plus bought my gun for fair market value and helped me find the right fit for my needs! I couldn't be happier with the pistol I got! I now feel confident enough to protect myself and or my family which is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Simply stated go see the professionals not a big box store! I order a gun from Guns Plus 3 or 4 months ago and it still hasn't come in. I found it locally, in stock and I wanted to purchase it. I called Guns Plus to make sure that I could get my $1000 deposit back. They said "no way". It looks like I'm stuck having to wait no telling how long for the gun I have on order to come in. My wife and I recently audited a License to Carry (LTC) class held at Guns Plus+ of Georgetown and we would highly recommend this class to everyone. Although we both have our LTC we decided to sit in after we met Stephen Simank (owner and instructor). We were both impressed by his experience and knowledge gained from 28 years of Law Enforcement. His class was enjoyable, informative, and fun, with videos, a live demo at the range, and real life examples from his years with APD and Law Enforcement. We came away having a better understanding of things like Use of Force, Non-Violent Dispute Resolutions, and Range & Gun Safety just to mention a few. We are very glad we took this opportunity. I don't like to be disparaging, but I've had a less than happy experience with the gunsmith at this store. My rifle had a broken firing pin, and the gun needed a deep cleaning. After over a month wait, I called and they said the gun was ready. The gunsmith told me he was still having some trouble, as the gun would fire several rounds, then misfire. He offered to continue working on it, for a price, but I wasn't willing to wait any longer. At the range, the gun misfired on the third round, locked up the charging handle. I took the gun to another gunsmith, who quickly discovered the problem. He removed the "new" firing pin installed at Guns Plus, and it was definitely not new. It had significant wear, and the gun was not cleaned, as I had requested. The new gunsmith installed a new firing pin, cleaned the gun, and it now performs flawlessly. He also pointed out that the recessed magazine screw had been replaced with a round head screw that lessens the value of the gun. I brought the gun back to Guns Plus, and even though they were polite about the whole situation, they claimed there was nothing they could do, since I had brought the gun to another gunsmith. They didn't even attempt to make things right with me. So I basically paid twice to get my gun back in working order. I'm pretty easy-going, and I hate writing bad reviews on a business, but the sad part about this is they could have offered me a couple of boxes of ammunition, and I probably would have walked away with a much more positive attitude about Guns Plus. I would not recommend bringing a gun in for any kind of repair at this store. read more

Warning!! If you are a female, especially an older female, DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! They get you coming and going, they are just plain crooks! Last year I went there to buy some small handguns as my husband had passed away and I was on my own. Bought three small .22 automatics, each one cost $300 and change. I should have shopped around. Then last month I had a bill to pay and decided to sell two of them (waiting for my benefits to start coming), top price they would give me was $150, for both of them!! One gun had been fired 5 times, the other had never even had a clip inserted, but because they were not in the original packaging 'he couldn't sell them as new.' Right, I'm sure as soon as I left he put them in some extra packaging and sold them as new, again! Went there because my husband liked to shop there, never again. I felt like they had dismissed me as an old lady who didn't know any better, if I'd had more time I would have gone else where. I was doing reviews tonight when I was thinking of all the gun craziness right now, and it reminded me of my first visit here last year. I have only been once and never been back since. I Purchased a hand gun here last year. However I shouldn't have, at first the one guy that was in there seemed ok, he talked a little bit to me at first, I looked around saw a handgun I wanted, we did the paper work and then this is where it went down hill, it took them for ever to get the gun and charge me for it as another customer(good ol boy) had come in. At this point I was ignored for at least 20 mins and this store is tiny so no excuse for it. I came to the conclusion these guys were not too keen on me, a person with a little pigment in their skin being in their store or even making a purchase. They continued to talk to the "gold ol boy" with a cowboy hat....finally the brung the gun up front charged me and literally walked off didn't hand me my purchase or the receipt, they literally left the receipt dangling off the register and the gun on the counter and walked off....yea at this point I was really feeling like I wasn't wanted here due to skin color...I grab my stuff and left never to return. The store wasn't crowded at all and besides the "good ol boy" their was no one else besides me and the 2 employees. Took the CHL course on 8/12. Excellent presentation and class. Loved the emphasis on safety. Couldn't agree more about the right way to carry. Range portion was well done. Safety first as it should be. Holster safety was informative and changed my mind about how I am going to carry. The LEO perspective was fantastic and worth every minute. Did a FFL transfer here. I had to wait a day after they receive the package. I would have chosen another shop if they told me that before hand ($25 transfer fee is not the cheapest in the area). They never called me informing me my firearm has arrived. And when I called they said they didn't receive it even though the signature on delivery confirmation was G Plus. The experience in store was ok but I probably wouldn't do another FFL transfer here. read more

I've made 2 purchases from Guns Plus. One was a DDM4 V11 AR. It had to be ordered but came in quickly and was as promised. It was actually a tad cheaper there. I had been buying guns at a store in Round Rock but they went out of business, so I tried Guns Plus. Also, just today I bought a suppressor/silencer from Guns plus. Adam was awesome. He helped me pick a suppressor and then walked me through the entire process of acquiring a silencer, which is an NFA item that requires a special ATF background check. The process was much faster than I'd thought it would be. I had to be finger printed, had my picture taken, made an ATF account and filled out some forms. Adam made it painless and quick with the process and was very accommodating and really pleasant to deal with. I will continue to buy guns and other parts there, although I normally buy my ammo online in bulk. I've had a great experience every time I've been to Guns Plus in Georgetown. So I went there to do a private party FFL transfer. I walk in wearing a mask and my Mechanix gloves. Two guys behind the counter ask me why am I wearing gloves? I tell them it's because those are the CDC guidelines gloves and a mask. They say those gloves won't do you any good, their porous. So I say I'm wearing gloves in case I touch something that might have the virus on it. So one guy says "Okay so you're going to wear the gloves and then you're going to touch your face". I told him I don't touch my face when I'm wearing gloves. But I'm thinking why are we even having this conversation, I came in here to do a transfer. "We're just trying to educate you" they said. So now I'm getting medical advice from two Gun store yahoo's that apparently don't read the news. So I told the salesguy that I called this morning about the transfer fee they said it was $25. The clerk says "Yeah,$25.00 per person". What? I told him when I called they said just $25. He goes well it's per person and I said well if it's per person then you should say that over the phone when someone asks. I know some dealers charge $50 but at least they tell you upfront what the fee is and not bait and switch you after you get in. Not a good way to do business at all. He wanted to ring up the $50 at the register before my buyer even arrived. The paperwork was clean and was done swiftly so at least that went well. I'm not saying not to shop there I'm just saying it was a bad vibe all around. read more

I got a lot of the "come back when you know what you're talking about (or ready to spend money)" attitude. The guys at Guns Plus were welcoming and took the time to answer my questions and explain the "why" which made it practical for me. Their prices were very fair and they offered a little training on the spot for a handgun newbie. Most of all I felt comfortable during the whole experience. I recently took a LTC course with Stephen. I'm thankful that I chose this facility to take this course. Stephen is extremely knowledgeable and has decades of experience. This is a serious course, come prepared for a full day of work (on the range and in the classroom). Stephen has a great sense of humor that he uses to get some of his points across, so you won't be bored! Kristy was extremely helpful, she kept things moving and on point. She is quite the taskmaster and their for you if you have questions or need a boost of confidence. Last week I went to Guns Plus to purchase a gun, Kyle was incredible knowledgeable and patient with me. I found the right gun for me. I plan on taking more classes with Stephen, because I understand the importance of a LTC and the responsibilities it demands of anyone that has a LTC. I would also recommend getting the Texas Law Shield insurance. It is reasonably priced and offers important coverage to anyone that owns guns. read more

I've bought 4 different guns from Gun's Plus along with selling one and had work done to other guns. I've also bought ammo and hunting licenses so they are definitely a full service shop and I've found their gun prices to be okay. When I find a better price or something they don't have I buy it online and ship it to them for the FFL. They're not perfect (thus the 3 out of 5 stars) but if I have an issue and bring it to their attention they address it. There's a new gun store in town that used to sell guitars as well and they're 5 stars all day long so I shop there now. Great service and prices. Talk to Zach if you go. read more

I attended the CHL class at Guns Plus today. It was informative, fun and very easy to comprehend. They went over the range rules as well as all the other material necessary to pass the class and safely be able to carry a hand gun. Once at the range, one individual in the class violated the safety rules not once, but twice. After the second attempt to get him to comply, they revoked his shooting privileges for the day and let me tell you, the whole shooting line was happy about that. They stressed safety on the firing line and obviously are serious about it. I would recommend Guns Plus for CHL training and any other firearm needs. I guess it all depends on what you are after as to how you feel about these guys. I want a personal experience where the business I am shopping cares about the service they give and whether I come back or not. This is why I will always prefer the locally owned to the chain. I can say that I have never walked in and not been helped and received the focus and attention of the person helping me. If they are busy it may be a bit but that is ok as that tells me they are doing well with customer service or they would not be full of people. I also took my CHL training through them and having taken it previously from another trainer, I can tell you that I learned more in the first 30 minutes of my class than all the previous training combined. Now I am talking about useful information that I might need if I ever had to use my weapon. Not just the information to pass the test. I think too many places only teach for the money and that was not true with these guys. I was taught things that will really matter should the need to use force ever arise. I appreciate going to a place that deals with weapons that is manned by former police officers, lawyers and others that have dealt with deadly force situations. That is where I want to get my info on everything to do with guns. So read the other reviews and consider what you are looking for and if it is a professional, caring and fair place....then you have no option but to go to GUNS PLUS! read more
