I hired another moving company that looked at the complexity of disassembling my 7 foot by 7 foot iron bookcase and walked out the front door. Glad I went with this company. Was quoted a good value for a 4 hour move with 4 movers. 5 guys showed finished moving me from a 3rd floor 2 bedroom to a Townhome around town. Was loaded and unloaded fast, friendly and efficient. Movers were very hard working, kind and good dudes. I had a good amount of gym equipment they had no problem getting everything loaded and unloaded safely and quickly orderly fashion. Definitely recommend these guys for your next move. All of my furniture was padded and arrived in great condition, which is actually a rarity! I had really high hopes for the services provided prior to the day. Speaking through the move with Trey (owner) was really great and helped motivate and prepare me for their services we scheduled for 9 am. However, that changed significantly on the day of the move. I received a call around 6 minutes prior to our scheduled time and was told that due to call offs there wasn't enough staff to fulfill our move right on time, estimating for around 12 pm. That was understandable but disappointing seeing we had assumed management would have planned ahead in case workers had to call off due to the over a week's notice of the job. Due to the uncertain arrival time I didn't feel comfortable taking smaller items over to my new apartment and had to push several things back to accomodate the time. Extra notable was the fact that my parents were driving in to help with the move and live an hour away. I had to explain to them right before they left of the push back and we had all planned around 1 as was predicted. 12 pm passed and I hadn't had a team arrive or heard anything from the company. I ended up calling the company to ask for updates and to explain the situation at hand so both parties better understood the issue at hand. The conversation had only lasted 20 seconds and I was interrupted and told that they'd contact people and hung up before I could fully explain things. I received a call around twenty minutes later saying they should be there around 1 and they were sending a free mover as well to make up for the delay (which is very appreciated). Once again 1 passed and no one arrived and I didn't receive any calls letting me know the estimated time at 1 wouldn't be feasible either. Due to the lack of communication from the company over updates, my parents and I were getting very frustrated. Trying to give the company grace understanding the set backs they were facing, I waited until around 2:40 before contacting the company. I had planned once again to both ask for updates and needed to explain my situation, due to being cut off from doing during our earlier conversation. I once again was able to ask for updates, but was cut off again before I could discuss the urgency of the situation. I received a call back around 3 explaining they'd be there in an hour and before the phone hung up I interjected to explain the frustrations and set backs that had come from the delays. This is what really exposed the underlying communication and management issues at play from our end. In discussing the experience with Trey from a more critical lens, the prior polite and accommodating tone that gave me so much hope with the company upon scheduling with them, switched to a much harsher and demeaning tone. Let me be clear in saying that the way Trey chose to speak to me was insulting. He walked me through the causes of the delay (which I was already aware of) as though I were a child and not a full grown adult paying for his services. As the front facing individual for the company, his choices on how he speaks to customers- particularly around negative experiences such as we were having, was incredibly inappropriate and reflected incredibly poorly onto the entire company. As a woman who's more than familiar with what it looks and sounds like to be demeaned because of my perceived intelligence from my gender/voice- the childlike treatment and demeaning undertones of the conversation were very notable and concerning. We finally had a team arrive at my location around 3:50 and that is largely where our concerns with the company ends. The only reason for two stars rather than one is because of the quality of work the employees on site provided. The workers, John, Paul, and Julian were phenomenal, efficient, and careful. They were very kind and communicative with me and my parents once they arrived around 5. I will shout out Trey and the company as a whole for providing really great compensation for the significant delay and the final cost was shockingly discounted. We want to make it very clear that we are incredibly appreciative for how much was covered. If I could provide any certainty for anyone looking to use the company, if you receive a similar experience as I had, the company does go out of their way to make it up to you monetarily and that's huge. However, for us the residual concerns aren't with the cost but with the quality of service all the way around. From how I was treated by management after frustration was established as well as the lack of communication around the day, no amount of compensation can wash away the issues seen. The lack of clarity led to all of us waiting around for just shy of eight hours. The company needs to be better with updating clients around delays like this. This at the end of the day was a failure in management and communication. The major issues faced could have easily been resolved with prior planning or consistent communication initiated by the company. read more

Great day moving with Gullivers crew. Gullivers arrived as expected on January 1st, bright and energetic. Dylan reviewed the move day plan with my husband and me and answered our questions. The crew worked efficiently and with great care. They were courteous. John, the driver/engineer disassembled & reassembled our complex furniture expertly. Furniture was wrapped for protection; the crew took great care placing & unwrapping the furniture in the new house. Their strength & agility was admirable. REVIEW of GULLIVER'S MOVERS I have moved many times over many years and can say Gulliver's was one of the best movers. They were fairly priced, efficient and a fun group. I had a very large household, requiring a large and smsll truck. Trey accurately assessed that 6 men were needed. Trey, the owner, was easy to work with, available by text or phone, and ageed to send a couple men a second day to unpack my kitchen and a huge wardrobe box. . Trey's team was highly professional moving items from my apartment and storage unit into my new house. They were uniformly pleasant, hard-working and strategic in executing the transfer. It was impressive that the work crew took great care of all items. They placed all large furniture in the right room. They were gentle with my belongings, and responsive to all requests for placement of items. I highly recommend this company I will hire them for future moves and tell friends to choose them. After writing a very favorable review of this company last fall, I now must report a very different experience. I was moving from a large one-bedroom apartment to a small ranch home about 4 miles away. The move was scheduled as follows: pack and load the truck Friday, unload and move in and partially unpack Saturday. The manager promised me 5 packers, as I have a lot of books. When the truck arrived Friday, only 2 men got off to pack, and the others left to take care of another move. In other words, as the crew confirmed to me, the manager had double-booked another move in my time slot. No way could 2 people pack up the entire apartment, which was full of books, on one day. They couldn't return on Saturday as the freight elevator in my building was completely booked. They returned Sunday with more men, but the packing still took so long that by the end of the day the truck was loaded, but no delivery could be made. They returned Monday morning to handle the unloading, move-in, and partial unpacking. The move was finally completed mid-afternoon Monday, having started early Friday morning--for a one-bedroom apartment!! This meant I had to find a place to sleep during the process--fortunately, a relative came through. I complained emphatically to the manager, whose excuse was that a number of men were out sick Friday. I checked with the crew and they told me, again, that the problem was double-booking--one guy even thought triple-booking had taken place. I should note that the crew was excellent, did a great job packing, nothing broke. Unfortunately, however, I can no longer recommend this company. read more

Received an estimate from them for $600-$650, at $165 an hour. The day of the move, they had sent a third mover with them, bringing the hourly rate to $210, at the owner's discretion, and then asked for $850. Additionally, they were an hour late. Eventually they accepted $800. Just something to be aware of if looking for a mover. It should not be on the customer that the company decided to send an extra person. Had they known this would be the case, they would have went elsewhere. read more

Just moved my son from Covington, KY to Chicago, IL. I chose Gullivers because they were the least expensive between the 3 I looked at. I asked a lot of questions to make sure there were no hidden or surprise costs. Basically the packing is where estimate can change a bit but ours did not. We paid what was estimated. My son and I were very happy with the move. It went smoothly. I highly recommend Gullivers. Even though only 2 people were estimated for packing up his one bdrm one bath, 4 people came to pack up and load the truck. We were not charged additional money for the extra people. Gullivers came in time to pack up the apt, load contents in the truck, and drive the truck (they spent overnight somewhere). The next day we met them in Chicago at the new place. They came in time to unload contents in the new place. John and Paul was the crew from start to finish and they were awesome. We are closing on 2 homes in a couple days. Due to the double closing, we have to move out on a Thursday and move into the new house on a Friday. Gulliver's was one of the few places we contacted that would do a Move & Hold, in the Cincinnati area. They are moving us out on a Thursday, holding our move on the trucks and in a secure lot on Thursday night and moving us in to the new house on a Friday afternoon after the closings. My wife and I loved that they sent out Trey to actually take a look at our home and do an actual estimate of our move. Other companies just asked how many bedrooms and said something like, "that'll be 8 hours and a 4-man crew." They may be a few dollars more than others on the hour; however the personalized and professional attention to detail is what sold us on Gulliver's Movers. I don't mind paying a little more for professionalism, efficiency and hard work and smart work. Today (Wednesday before the move) they sent a crew to help us pack the kitchen, breakable dishes and China. That was so helpful as my wife is pregnant with Twins. The packing crew of: Cody, James and Rick are amazing, thus far. They were so polite, professional and respectful. Big plus... they were not just on time but a few minutes early! So far these guys are beating their estimated time which we like, since that means we are also beating the estimated cost. Moving day is stressful enough, so please hire a different moving company to avoid added stress. I cannot express this enough, do not hire this company for your move. Trust me on this one. I contacted Gulliver's a few weeks prior to my move. Joe the owner picks up, we agree to some preliminary details and he texts me a quote. I ask when I can expect the movers to be there on moving day. He responds between 10-11. Perfect. Moving day: I call Joe at 10:35 for an update. He is confused and wants to make sure I didn't book for the following day. I say no. He says he currently has no guys available but I am on "his radar," and that he will call me back in two minutes. 28 minutes later he calls me back and says his guys will be there around 1. I call at 1:30, as no movers have shown up yet. Says his guys are finishing a job in Milford. They should be done in an hour. I call at 2:39. He says his guys should be there within the hour. He calls at 3:29 claiming they will be there in 15-20 minutes. They arrived at 4:03. Again, the movers were great and finished the in-town move three hours later. When it came time to settle up with Joe at the end of the day, he left and preferred to handle it over the phone. He offered to take off 50% of the quote but as the day progressed, he sensed my irritation and brought more movers after they started. It made the move go faster but he then tried to spin it on me and say it should be the original price he quoted me since he brought more men. I argued that being 7 hours late to a job and constantly giving misinformation on timing was absolutely egregious and unacceptable. I wanted a further discount. The following is why I would never recommend Gulliver's, and Joe the owner specifically, to anyone. He proceeded to become aggressive and argumentative with me on the phone, claiming the price was fair. I was shocked. Never once did he even say sorry. I haggled a minor $100 discount, mainly just to be done with it and get him off the phone. I know this review is long but moving is a big event. Plans and timing is of the utmost importance. I had numerous people waiting on me all day long. Joe's lack of professionalism, punctuality, remorse for the situation and nasty attitude ruined my day. We hired Gulliver's to move us long distance - state-to-state, this included packing up our home. We also needed them to store our items for 2 days while we traveled back to Ohio. Joe was very pleasant when getting initial deal set up. Come delivery day our truck arrives with one mover - who then called his friend to come help unload. They began unloading some of our a stuff, and then items that weren't ours. That was my first sign this wasn't going to go well. When it was all said and done, our brand new stainless steel kitchenware was missing. I called Joe several times to get an update on where it was, and if not found then negotiate a make good. He screamed at me that they - direct quote - "delivered 98% of my stuff" and to leave him alone. We ended up being out $500 worth of stainless steel pots and pans. I'd avoid unless you're comfortable with 98% of your items being delivered. read more

We just used Gulliver's this weekend and it was a great experience. The moving team was prompt, polite, careful and hard working. Rick, Darius and Brad were terrific. Gulliver's charges by the hour and was comparable to other estimates. When the job was done, the final cost fell within the estimated range. Too be honest, I was surprised at the final cost, since you always end up owning more "Junk" than you thought. Having only moved myself in the past, I expected a couple broken items and maybe some damage to the properties that were being moved, but this didn't happen. At this point, I have not found a single broken or misplaced item. When our new house is ready, we will use Gulliver's again! I would also highly recommend Gulliver's to others!!! read more

We set an appointment, my property was surveyed, and we developed a plan to move from Cincinnati to downtown Chicago. Before you read my review, please note that I am not a troll or competitor. I am a real customer with real concerns. To sum up the review below DON'T BOTHER... This company is extremely "informal" (i.e. not professional). If you ask details about the move he might get smart or short with you. He seemed rude but I was moving forward anyway. My philosophy is that if someone is going to move you be nice be kind because you dont want them to ruin your belongings. I was kind, patient and polite the entire process. One thing I picked up on was that if you ask about cost (e.g. what happens when you underestimate the cost of the move) he will get very impatient. If you need clarification about details...forget about it... Forget about having a peace of mind... My guess you are suppose to go with the flow. I called to arrange my move. The owner asked me what I had and I listed the items over the phone. I did not get the sense that he was writing anything down. I just said well he is an expert so let me go with it. He said for three movers and a truck I could be moved for $128.00 an hour. He also said that they charge about $64 for tape and wrapping and $64.00 for the trip cost/drive. I agreed over the phone and he shared he would follow-up with an email. In the email, he confirmed what we discussed VERY briefly the cost mentioned above. I shared with him my beds were already wrapped so I did not need to $20 or so mattress fees. He never followed -up about this matter. I figured ...whatever...I will just go forward and pay. I emailed him to confirm date and time. His response which was sent via cell phone was "OK". Fast forward to the night before move, I wanted to confirm that we were all set. Besides ... I only got "OK". He did not have the courtesy to call, confirm, and or cancel. He did not send an email to confirm my address etc. This is all information shared during our first call. The last email I received was "OK". The only thing I can think of was that he only serves a specific demographic. But, I have no idea. LONG STORY SHORT ... HE WAS A NO SHOW! It was very consistent with the unprofessional experience I had before. The communication was very poor. He never called, he never confirmed and he never canceled. I waited and waited and called and waited. Given he sends his emails via cellphone, the night before the move when I sent an email asking if we were all set he could have responded "OK". But I got absolutely nothing. I think it is so important, to cancel, call, say no thank you. It is so rude not to show up. I can take additional steps to show phone log and brief email to further make my point but I will leave it here. I am sure you can find a service both formal and informal who would be able to provide a better service and who would be willing to confirm your move or cancel if they believe that you are not a good fit for their service. read more

They will quote you WAY lower than you pay in the end. Do not use this company. They are playing a game with you and the movers are part of that game. The movers are fantastically motivated and hard working. I can only imagine there must be some terrible reason that they are so loyal to such a crook! Here is the con: They quote you about 20% less than other moving companies and say that it is going to be no problem for their guys, so you hire them. Then, after much nagging and hassling, you get the written quote just days before your move so you are stuck without the option to hire anyone else. The written quote ties to the low quote you were told verbally, but DRASTICALLY underestimates how much stuff you are moving no matter how clear you thought you were on the phone. Then moving day comes--they are late, they take several smoke breaks, take a long lunch and tell you they were lost, but the movers hustle so you think it is going to be ok. Then you realize the day is dragging on and the hours you were quoted are no where near close. They break stuff, try to hide it, and lie. You start to worry. They start to get sloppy with your stuff as you apply pressure, so you back off. At the end of the day, they tell you the bill is going to be 50-70% more than what you were quoted. You have more stuff than what was on your written quote that you didn't get until a few days before. This is now somehow your fault, even though they are the experts. You feel bamboozled and you end up with no recourse to what they are charging you. Everyone at this company has been trained in this scam and will nicely lie to your face throughout the whole con. Don't get cornered by these crooks! Move your stuff with a company that stands by their quote! Hire two moving companies and cancel within the the cancellation time if you can't get an accurate quote. You are either the sucker or the asshole, you choose! read more

We used Gulliver's Movers today to move us out of a one bedroom and into a two bedroom a couple of miles away. They arrived on time, were professional and upbeat, despite rain and the 3 flights of stairs to our apartment! They took care with our furniture and belongings. I was also impressed with how they just kept moving...for four hours! I think they took one 10 minute break between moving our boxes and starting on the heavy furniture lifting and that was it. What I also appreciate is the honesty...from the very beginning, Joe had me give a pretty thorough summary of our belongings and estimated the move would take 4 hours. Other places I called didn't even ask what I had to move and stated they thought 2 hours would be sufficient to move us out and into the new apartment. I know from my last move that 2 hours would not be sufficient given the quantity of our belongings. Would you know, it took them 4.5 hours? Now that's good estimating, and it ensured that when it came time to pay there were no surprises. Also, Joe communicated with me that cash was preferred, so I had it on hand. read more

Sincerely, this was the best, easiest moving experience I have ever had. Put in an order for two guys, and they sent a third free of charge, to make sure the job got done on time. The guys were prompt, friendly, and worked incredibly hard. I believe it was said to me, "Young lady, this is a lot of boxes. Like, a LOT of boxes, young lady." I just apologized and said, "Listen. If you ever take up comic books as a hobby, go digital. So much easier to move digital books." The price I was quoted was the price I was charged, which made me happy. I have been burned on that in the past with a certain chain of movers. Not so with this professional, local business. They called to confirm the booking, double checked when I switched dates on them about a week ahead of the move, and were excellent to work with from first contact to the last item moved. I would highly recommend this business if you're in need of movers. Or, like me, if you have brothers who usually help you move, but you just can't put them through moving all those books yet again. No need for that, nor for all the hassle of a U-haul when some polite, friendly, hard-working strangers can do it for you. read more

We just moved out of our home after living there for almost five years. I chose Gulliver's after reading all of the great reviews on Yelp. I initially called and spoke with Joe, who was very friendly and gave me a realistic expectation of what everything would cost, and how long the move could potentially take. I wasn't sure when a good day would be, so I said I would ask my roommates and get back with him. He was so friendly I didn't even bother calling any other companies for an estimate. A couple of days later he followed up with an e-mail, summering what we had discussed. On the day we chose, they arrived on time. Joe called that morning to confirm, and they came during the window of time he said they would. I cannot say enough great things about James and Cody. We have a lot of large and heavy items, and they moved everything quickly and without damaging anything. They were both extremely courteous and professional the entire time. I wish there is -10 star to choose for this movers. Trey who claims to be the owner will come home and give you a false evaluation and lure you promising best rate and service. He won't show up on the actual day nor answer the calls. He is one of the rude guys I have talked to in my life. The guys he send us are tricky. They come in large number and confuse you and act as if they are all working but they constantly move in and out even if they are not carrying stuff. They definitely charge way too much and the time they spend actually moving is much less than what they claim to have "worked" that day. They use extensive packing material and unnecessary boxes. For me they used a large box with stuffing only to pack unnecessary shopping bags and trash that I kept aside to throw away. The price they charge for boxes and tape is out of this world rate. You could do a favor by looking other options and will save at least 2 grand for local move. Insists on cash and this sounds shady. read more

The final bills were reasonable, though. I'd just suggest you get an on-site quote to get the most accurate estimate. Overall we had a great experience with Gulliver's.
