During the move floors were unprotected and gouged and scratched and walls were also scratched and gouged. A 3 piece wall unit was ripped apart without the connecting bolts removed. In addition, 2 of the 6 glass doors were broken. A dryer and freezer were both damaged and the freezer stopped working. Parts were left anywhere. For example, 2 futons were taken apart. At the new house futon parts were found in the garage, some in the kitchen and others in the basement. Shelves to a bookcase were not found. Trash was left behind in our yard after they left. This is not a comprehensive list, just the major highlights. I filed a claim, and almost 4 months later here are the results. The damages to floors and walls cost over $1600 to fix. They offer $0 to repair. The bookcase cost $1100 30 years ago, and $7000 to replicate. They offer $850. The freezer reimbursement offer was $60. I elected $10,000 insurance, but you see the results of my claim submission. At the second location they were bringing my piano up the stairs. Why would I move a piano to a place we are moving from? Next, they laid all of our boxes upside down in the new place. All my containers like grits, oatmeal, and oil spilled all over the place naturally. It's so much more effort to flip a box than to just pull it off a dolly ‍. They laid an ottoman with a lid on upright instead of flat on the ground and naturally all my stuff fell out. Boxes were broken at the bottom, and they just seemed to have thrown them around. Then, they couldn't move my piano up a second flight of stairs even though they were so ok with doing it at the second location, it has been sitting at the bottom of my staircase blocking access to the laundry for 4 days. You know they also wanted a tip by the way. I'm also magically missing a box of shoes that had a pair of vintage inside. I called about that, the guy who answered said he would look and call me back. STRESSFUL MOVING EXPERIENCE -- AVOID AFFORDABLE MOVERS…read more We scheduled our move a month in advance for a 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. arrival window. The night before the move, Affordable Movers informed us that our time window was being pushed to 1:30-3:30 p.m. Even with that change, they still did not arrive on time. At 3:30 p.m., we had to call them because no truck had arrived and we had received no meaningful update. We were then told the truck was still 2 hours away and would not arrive until 5:30 p.m.--nearly 7 hours after the original window we booked. Because of the significant delay, we were told the company would provide a discount and that Chelsea would update the invoice before payment was due. That never happened. Chelsea did not follow up, and we were ultimately required to pay the full price, plus roughly $500-$600 more for an additional two hours of moving time that resulted from the crew's inefficiency. The truck finally arrived around 5:30 p.m and the movers were not efficient. The three movers did not appear to use basic moving equipment such as dollies or lifting straps. Instead, they manually carried all boxes to the truck. Given that we were already hours behind schedule, my wife and I offered to help move items, but the crew declined. During unloading, however, we ended up helping unload the truck ourselves to try to speed things up. We did not finish until midnight. Afterward, I submitted a formal claim to the company regarding the extreme delay, the inefficient moving process, and damage the crew caused to one of our cabinets. Trying to get a response was another ordeal. It took nearly four months, approximately 20-25 calls and emails, and constant follow-up just to receive any type of substantive response. Chelsea, who was supposed to assist on moving day, was completely unresponsive. Frank, who identified himself as someone who would help us handle the situation, also stopped responding. After months of follow-up, Kate ultimately dismissed our concerns, stating that being several hours late was permitted under the company's terms and conditions and that their damage-claim deductible was $500. The company offered no meaningful resolution for the delay, extra charges, damaged cabinet, or the time and stress this caused. Bottom line: Affordable Movers turned what should have been an exciting moving day into an exhausting, stressful, and expensive experience. Furniture not set back up correctly, pieces left out, multiple screws not put back in, etc. An hour or 2 in, driver tells me that they broke a leg off dresser when loading it the day prior but didn't want to tell me bc he thought my plate was full. However, he previously told me the day before that the mirror seemed a little loose, so I was aware they didn't break it if something happens. He showed me the leg & said there was lots of different ways that they could handle the damage. He thought I should've had one in my purse or in my car. I said "Well, you're the driver that's needing signatures, shouldn't you have one in your truck? Who needs signatures from ppl, but don't carry a pen?" This aggravated him even more. He told me if we couldn't find 1, he would copy over my name & initials from what I signed before. I walked down the st to go dig in my car so he wasn't forging my name. The movers are all standing & talking about going to eat & wondering about traffic. I asked how they came up & would be going back. They had no idea, said weren't the driver. I asked driver & told me he didn't know. I said truck drivers know where they're going & know the roads. Said he didn't, just what the phone says. I asked which city they came by? Still tells me he don't know. I tried to be friendly but he wanted no part of this.
