My husband got a quote for a guitar we were trying to sell to buy a new one. My husband was quoted $318 he said he would think about it was told shouldn't change in a week. Went in 2 days later and the girl told him $250 despite having a quote from 2 days earlier for $318. She went ahead and said market changes daily and that's the price. Called corporate and what she said was very wrong and they should've honored the price. I do not recommend selling your used gear there especially if they don't honor their own policy! read more

I would not recommend shopping here for first time buyers. Yesterday, I witnessed probably the worst salesmanship. An employee was attempting to sell to a first time buyer and he was bombarding the, mind you, a juvenile girl, with a bunch of expensive gear trying to make that commission sale. Are these the predatory practices taught to employees by management? The young girl looked a bit confused most of the time. I'm certain he wasn't hearing her out on what she really wanted either. Your retailer has got to hire better, you could drive away a possible long time buyer by scaring them away if they feel awkward enough. I tried to chime in a bit after seeing the girls expression, but he was arrogant enough to say to me, "Im doing this." There are reasons Guitar Center is unpopular, and this is one of those reasons. They should be ashamed! They aren't there to help you find the perfect instrument, they are there to profit from people they find gullible and inexperienced. read more

I have been coming here for the past couple of years. It's the best place that Riverside has to offer for new and aspiring musicians. I was very VERY fortunate to have taken electric guitar lessons with Justin Escamilla (aka the shred guru) and I was just blown away by how informative and passionate he was as a guitar teacher. I highly recommend him for the intermediate guitar players looking to learn how to speed up their chops. Justin is THE MAN! My 5 year old daughter also took guitar and ukelele lessons with Jose, who is also very passionate and was very patient. Jose is also a great classical guitarist (ask him to play "Recuerdos de la Alhambra", and you'll see what I mean!). I've also had the pleasure of meeting some of the sales associates and managers (again, been coming here for years). All great people, and very fun to speak with. It's cool there's a Guitar Center closer to downtown Riverside than the older established San Bernardino location, however, the significantly lower socioeconomic demographic of MOVAL is reflected in the sparse choices for guitars and basses over the 1K price point. The used section also reflects the disparity compared to, say, Pasadena, Rancho Cucamonga or even San Bernardino. Nevertheless, it's perfect for that kid I heard with the treble set too high practicing the Sweet Child of Mine arpeggio but omitting one critical note, thereby throwing off the senses. What did I like? Compared to other locations, picking up strings, picks and other smaller accessories is self-service and not behind the counter. Although much smaller than the other stores I've been to, they used the space well. What I didn't like: Hmmmm, as stated above, there's a sparse selection of 'professional' grade instruments and the few they have are fifteen-feet off the ground, so casual auditions are impossible without bothering or being badgered by an employee. The stock is not the same since my prior visit and the cables to plug into the demo amplifiers are far and few in between. Overall, they have what a general consumer needs but cater to the beginner and intermediate musician. The Gibson SG Standard ($1400) was an exception and wasn't too abused by after school practicers. The bass selection is small but there are a few good values even if the bass amplification available is wimpy. For me it's good for general items but it's unlikely I'd purchase anything unless the used section gets a rare treat. read more

jan 2025, service guy broc. Broc was what was left over after the real service guys retired and left. I guess they thought anybody who could identify a guitar from an animal was qualified. The dude is a menace. I brought in a ovation celebrity demented series limited edition with a custom paint job. had some seperation between the plastic and wood, figured any idiot could do a glue job. turns out no. He never even took off the strings from the guitar to release the pressure off the neck and wood. Dude glued it like he superglue his fingers together for fun. He chipped a guitar that had never been played and is no longer made. It cant be replace like he could with a chimp. He doesnt play, he only plays with the ones he works on is what he told me. which means he works or cars but never drives one. cant wait for the place to close down so other people wont have their stuff ruined If you have a guitar you love. dont take it there. take it to the one in san Bernadino read more

This is an incredible company with fantastic employees! On Friday, January 20, 2023, I called for some advice. I needed a PA system for better volume on my YouTube Videos. Benjamin was the customer service rep who helped me. I am not savvy when it comes to technology. He quickly put me at ease and spent a lot of time advising me. He suggested the Harbinger system and told me to try it out upon its arrival. If It had any problems, I could bring it directly to the store for a refund. He was also super patient and gave us our space but made sure we knew he was available. I always come here with my little cousins age 14 and 15 they are into guitars so we come to get strings, picks, etc. Last weekend was different, they had been kicked out from the guitar center in Ontario Mills but not this one, they usually grab guitars and start jamming out to see how they sound and for what guitar to buy next. Randomly my 15yr old cousin met a couple of young guys and they all started jamming out, we always had someone ask if we needed help and didn't bother the kids at all, thank you so much! I appreciate that the staff understood that they are kids and just wanted to play besides them all purchasing something. I really appreciate it, I much rather have my cousins jamming out or focused on music rather than on the streets up to no good. My 14yr old cousin found a Gator hard guitar case red soft interior (like a coffin) with no price that was able to be seen so we asked and while waiting in line trying to find out for the price, we ended up finding it, it was $150 we said thank you to the gentleman on the counter and he told us to let him scan it, maybe it had some discount, so we did and it was $50 without hesitation he offered to hold it for him while he kept looking around and wouldn't have to carry it around. After we went back for my other cousin and we got a couple of guitar strings and picks. While in the store looking at guitars we were asked if we were interested in any guitar and that they can also order them if it wasn't in store. One of my cousins asked "what did he need in order to apply for a job" the staff member was very nice and explained to him what he needed in order to apply. Besides this, through out our visit we seen several young kids and older folks playing instruments and no one bothered them, they did get asked if they needed any help or if they were looking for something in particular. And some even recognized the songs people would play, it was very cool to hear them say "hey it's this song" and the look on their faces that they got of just seen that people that work there are there because they also have the passion and love for music and instruments. read more

I could not believe the service I received from the repair/ guitar repair work shop at the store, the man Steve running the dept was above and beyond helpful, caring, compassionate, and very much cared about me and my guitar, I have not played for about 20 years and just started again and bought a used bass, he treated me as if I bought the most expensive bass in the store and literally walked me through explained and fixed every issue I was having, I just retired and am on a budget and he completely understood my needs and was there to help period no matter what, I was so taken and impressed by his actions I had to write this review. When I receive my dividends I will be back to see Steve and have him help me select a custom shop p bass and amp and gladly pay him whatever he suggests I need. In addition the gentleman I believe working/ helping Steve I didn't get his name was also very nice and helpful. Came in today for the last day of their Memorial Day sale. I had the pleasure of being assisted by Sage. Dude was super cool, responsive and tentative even while being tugged left and right with 3 other guests. I came in looking to take home an acoustic bass. Unfortunately only one out of the five in their inventory was on display. Working in retail before I know how tiresome in can be when a customer continuously asks for an item in the back but that wasnt the case with Sage. This isn't just a store, it's a field trip. lol There is so many things you can teach a child just by exposing them to things, even if you don't know anything. This place is a blast for all ages. We were here for the grand opening years ago. I actually stop at every guitar center location that I see just to look around and enjoy the atmosphere but I LOVE music. My family bought be a drum set when I was in high school (back in the 80's) and I have owned it ever since! Well, at some point my son became a better drummer than I ever was and then he moved out of state. Upon his return he decided that we needed a new drum set and we ventured into this store. I was hesitant to buy anything because we simply do not play that often but he returned a few days later and picked out a very pretty new set. I am thrilled and I am playing more again. Unfortunately my son went back to the state he now lives in, but what a beautiful gift to give! I owe it to him now to do more with it and surprise him when he returns. Let me just be the first to say how excited I am that Guitar Center will be opening up soon (2/11/16)! This GC is located in the same shopping area where Staples, Toys/Babies R Us, Party City, and QuickSilver are located. I stopped in today thinking it was already open but one of the guys said that this particular location will have in-house lessons, which you don't find at other GCs. It's nice to have a larger music store on this side of town. The closest GC out here is in San Bernardino so it'll be nice to come out here for lessons, purchasing equipment and instruments, music books and other gear, as well as coming to bring in anything requiring repairs. The guy advertising music lessons outside was really nice so I'm hoping the same friendly service will be provided once it opens! So I have been in this store at least three times. Each and every time I'm impressed by the employees knowledge and eagerness to answer all my stupid questions. Tonight I caught an employee walking by performing another task and he stopped immediately and said he would be glad to help. Jacob who I later found out is not even a sales associate but a DJ knew exactly where everything was at and he answered every question I had without batting an eye. He took his time to explain the pros and cons with what I was trying to do explained a better way for me to do it. The other thing I wanted to mention about Jacob was his courtesy, he continually called me Sir and that is very rare these days. Lot of folks walk into a music store like this and see employees with longer hair or beards and immediately label them as hippies or other things. In this case and every time I have been in here I'm thankful for their professionalism and courtesy. My family and I visited this location today to purchase some items for my husbands new home studio. We were looking to purchase a mic, but they did not have it. So instead we were going to purchase speaker stands , wires, and a guitar for our 1 year old son. We sat at the register for literally 30 mins+. My husband is currently handicap and recovering from a broken ankle using a walker, so us standing there was very inconvenient. The manager was helping us and in the middle of ringing us up he walked away to answer the phone and then went to other customers that came in after us! Didn't even acknowledge us until we were fed up and walking out! We didn't get our items to say the very least. Terrible service. I am very disappointed in the service, from a manager at that! What's the deal with this place? I placed an order at 4pm for same day pickup and called 4 hours later and they said they didn't receive the order because their computer is "slow" and to call tomorrow. Cool.. I don't mind waiting but don't promise same day/ 2 hour pickup on your website. I go the next day after calling a 3rd time in to pick up my items and the guitar tuner I purchased is missing the ball bearing and has cracks in the plastic, and came in two pieces. even the battery cover had a chip in it and slides off real easy.. I sent an email expecting a 24 hour response as they mention and its been 4-5 days with no response. I live 35 minutes away and with the price of gas its not even worth it to drive back and exchange the tuner. There was no quality control and they literally sold me broken equipment that was supposed to be new in the box. I don't see this place caring about customers at all and the whole time I was in store there was tons of customers calling in with complaints and questions while the cashier had to make me wait while he kept answering the phone. read more

Horrible customer service! They sucked. Do not come here. We walked in and walk around. Made our selections. Then stood there waiting for help. No one even looked at us standing there. One guy did make eye contact. Then went and sat down at the rental counter.on the other side of the store. While the other gut at the Lessons counter was talking to some girl. Guitar Center is outdated. I went to buy a violin bow. They had very minimal string instrument equipment in stock. They had 1 bow in total and it was missing some hair. Also there was no discount. I literally couldn't even find the string instrument section until I asked someone. I ended up browsing the store to get ideas and buying my bow from them online with an online coupon. I feel like this store needs to update its approach. Musical instrument are something that are nice to see in person, but all their purchases are going to be lost to online retailers soon. read more

Worst experience ever! And that's exactly why I'm loyal to Sam Ash. I tried coming in to give these guys the benefit of the doubt and nope. Never again. Came in at 8pm (one hour before closing) and wasn't able to get the help I needed. I was trying to sell some drum stuff and the girl in drums (I didn't bother getting her name and it doesn't even matter she's a useless/helpless employee anyway her name is irrelevant) instantly turned me away. Had I known they couldn't do the sale I wouldn't have drove 40 minutes with my baby for nothing. My gas light turned on and I didn't even worry about it because I was so sure that an hour before closing it would be NO PROBLEM to sell my gear and get gas money especially because I called beforehand and they told me they'd be able to help. So disappointed and upset with you guys. It doesn't take that long to do a used sell. If it's taking employees an hour to do used buys then I'd hire new staff. Sam Ash does them in no time and has never turned me away. Even if I walk in 30 minutes before closing. You'll never see me in any guitar center again and that's a fact. read more

Awesome music store. My teenage son developed a love for the electric guitar this last year because of the cool cats at guitar center. He lives going in and checking out all the different kinds of guitars. He's able to plug in any 1 of their 100s of guitars off the walls and give them a try. He could spend hours doing this. The staff are so nice, knowledgeable, and encouraging. They have good sales and also do resale of used guitars. They also have a huge selection of drums and a drum room. Tons of Dj equipment too.
