Lived here all my life and was never tempted to eat out due to all the high prices in the area. I so happened to be with my mom at the time and she had suggested to grab a quick bite. Luckily there was pictures of the menu on Yelp. We were astonished how reasonable it was that we ordered it to go. To our surprise the portion size was huge! Guicho's Eatery was highly recommended by a friend of mine and a few days later I was hungry for a sandwich, but I didn't want to go to a chain store. So I decided to try out this place. It was raining and there was nobody there. I ordered their turkey sandwich and I was very impressed with the quality craftsmanship. My delicious sandwich was served on crisp warm ciabatta bread. It tasted like the bread had just been baked. It was served with a fresh garden salad. So, if you're having a hankering for fresh delicious lunch, give it a try. I'll certainly be back. read more

I can not comment on their food, that is why I gave 3 stars, but the missing stars are for the fact I ordered and went to sit down with 1 year old and was informed that they do not have high chairs. I asked to be refunded because it would have been an absolute mess to have a toddler eat spaghetti on my lap while I ate. It is a restaurants choice not to have high chairs AND unfortunately they will lose patrons due to this. So beware if you have toddles you will not be accommodated here. read more

Absolute favorite Italian spot! My mom, sister, and I all can share one Penne marinara (add sliced Italian sausage) & an Alfredo (with chicken). We always leave very full and happy! This spot has a true 50/50 chance of being disappointing. It's affordable, so it works in a pinch, but nothing about the food, service or ambience is worth seeking out. Recently, when I went to get my pick up order, that had ONE hot item, they said it wasn't ready yet, so when they handed it to me and I opened it moments later I was bummed the pasta was actually less-than warm and the cream sauce was globular and gelatinous. The front of house service staff is nice enough, albeit they wear extreme crop tops exposing their stomachs, which press against the service counters; and they also have their very long (beautiful) hair loosely dancing above all the food orders they pack. In my experience long hair not pulled back and exposed stomachs is a health code violation for food handlers. The cooks also have beards and don't wear hairnets, which may also be a health code violation, but I'm not sure what passes in fast casual dining these days. The manager appeared to be present and monitoring the staff, and was also unbothered by the unprofessionally dressed staff and slower pace of the front of house staff. I threw away the pasta. And when I went for my salad was bummed that the fennel was sliced so thick, I could throw it like a boomerang. No comprehensive attention to detail or sanitation. read more

Heading home from a trip to Central coast we pulled off the freeway to find a restroom, this nice little town looked too good to pass up. I saw this little Italian place with a couple empty seats on the sidewalk so we popped in. I ordered the sausage lasagna and my wife had a Caesar salad. It didn't look like much but the flavors were fantastic! Such a fresh sauce with flavors that caught me off guard! I went here both the days I was in Carpinteria. Risotto and eggplant sandwich, both drizzled me with soul-quenching flavor that lasted me the whole month (aw yea, soul is needy). I love everything on the menu, but the fusilli w/pesto is one of my faves! I got the normal fusilli yesterday and it was delish too, but a little spicy (just to warn ya!). Wednesday we planned a small family reunion in Santa Barbara and i decided to stop here on the way up from Glendale for some good grub but the results were mixed to be sure. I arrived about 1128 am (they open at 1130) so as to get here before the rush and ordered a number of things. i was instructed that i was 1 and 1/2 minutes too early . Food-wise, I will address each food category separately as there is so much to say about them all. Mixed Green Salad Chopped Salad with chicken Caesar Salad It is a sad thing when superior raw products are not handled correctly. what do i mean? all the greens in all 3 salad items were either not chilled properly to begin with or cold-ish to warm because of their placement in the large box in which all was packed as in the cold was placed on the bottom with the hot items on top. Irregardless of that the dressings were delicious: lemon vin on both the mixed and chopped (opted out of the Balsamic which is usually the dressing on the chopped) as well as the lemony, garlicky, slightly fishy (totally appropriate) Caesar dressing on the Caesar. They go for BIG croutons in the Caesar which were pretty much hard and more importantly without much flavor. On the poz side the chopped was beautifully cut with all pieces of all of the various ingredients about the same size as is appropriate for a chopped. Sandwiches: Caprese Grilled Sammy Grilled Chicken Sammy The biggest disappointment here was the Caprese. Sandwiches need to have the innards built from one end of the sandwich to the other. In other words there should be enough Mozz to cover the whole surface of the bread. Btw: the breads overall were of very high quality and these two sandwiches were grilled very well: breads fresh and buttered with nice charred grill marks. The Caprese which should have been oozing with cheese and balanced with the tartness and acidity of the tomatoes was neither. Nothing special about the grilled chicken but like the caprese good bread, well charred. chicken was tasty and well prepared and.presented. this sandwich looked like the money that i was charged. Penne with Eggplant Lasagna with red Sauce Even though there was zero eggplant in the Penne it was delicious with plenty of cheese and cream and the pasta was just a bit over the al dente mark but totally acceptable for the person to whom i ordered it. But no Eggplant? The Lasagna was the big star of the day: sauce was delicately seasoned: tomatoes used in the sauce were piquant, acidic yet sweet. the sauce here was beautifully prepared and incorporated with the cheeses and noodles. As i said a mixed bag today with fine ingredients being downgraded because of how they were packed plus a couple of mis-steps in the preparation and one big flub in regards to there being no eggplant in the penne with eggplant. (and yes i did scope out the pasta itself thinking that maybe it was eggplant pasta but no. this is described as pasta with eggplant) It was very early in the day and this can sometimes play in your favor and sometimes, not. Today it did not. Really a 3 1/2 star day at Guichos but quality of the raw ingredients wins the day though prep and packaging errors were an issue.. Someone here really needs to address to the staff how to pack a big order. Cheers! read more

Right off the bat, I'm going to say the food is more like 4 - 4.5 stars, but I have marked down for some things that I felt were missing that definitely detracted from my overall enjoyment of the place. Regarding the food, it was very tasty, very fresh, healthy-sized portions, and both my husband and I were quite pleased with what we had ordered. I even enjoyed the balsamic dressing, and I usually don't. We split a hearts of palm salad, which had romaine lettuce, (lots of) hearts of palm, parmesan cheese, roma tomatoes, red onions, and we substituted balsamic for gorgonzola dressing. My husband then had their caprese sandwich, which consisted of fresh mozzarella, roma tomato, fresh basil, on sour dough bread with balsamic dressing. I had their Italian sub, which had dry salami, oven roasted turkey, roma tomato, red onion, lettuce, mozzarella cheese, balsamic dressing on French bread. We ended up bringing half of everything home because it was so much food. We were not upset to have leftovers. However, I must detract points for the following.... the young girl standing at the cash register SHOULD HAVE automatically asked if this was our first time there, which it was, and which I have found over the years, most other establishments ask of its patrons. The reason she should have is because we picked up what we thought was the only menu because that was the only menu anywhere in sight. I kept looking for more items than what I saw. At NO point did she offer that this was ONLY their daily specials menu, and at NO point did she tell us there was another menu, their REGULAR menu, which was actually nowhere in sight. It wasn't until AFTER we ordered from the specials menu when I asked if they had changed their menu (I was thinking about what I had read online and how wonderful it all sounded, none of which had I seen on the menu we were viewing), which is when she decided to tell us, "Oh, this is our specials menu." I looked at my husband, then looked at the line of people behind us, which is when she THEN said, "would you like to see our main menu?" Yep, I was annoyed. She pulled that out from BEHIND the counter, and because I was feeling pressured to move it along, I quickly scanned the salads and ordered one, but I left our sandwich order alone (from the specials menu). I can assure you I would have much preferred things off the main menu but went with what we had so as to not hold up the line further. She had NOTHING else to do but take orders...... she should have been more helpful in so many ways. I was pissed but left it alone. The other issue I had is that while their facility was sparsely decorated, I guess you would say minimalist decor, which was fine, I was a bit annoyed that when I asked where the ice was for the drinks, I was told, "Oh, we don't have any." I then responded with, "You mean today... or ever?" She said, "the drinks are refrigerated, so you won't need it." She doesn't know me (obviously), but ANY drink without ice does NOT happen in MY world. My drinks are not only always cold, but they are always with LOTS of ice. To hear that there was none was like putting me in a 90 degree room with no air conditioning. Sigh. Complaints being said, I really enjoyed the food, and NOW that I know the lay of the land there (no thanks to the youthful, inexperienced counter girl), I will be much better equipped to deal with their operation. The food is definitely good enough for a return visit when in the area again. I still won't get the ice, but at least, I will select a menu item of my true desire. I hope they put the actual menus out for display, and not just the specials....but at least I now know to ask. That was just weird to me. Oh well. read more

Guicho's is a great place for lunch in Carp! They have so many delicious pasta dishes, salads and sandwiches. Their Italian menu and style is unique to Carp, something Carp desperately needs! Their service is always friendly and fast. My favorite is the pasta with pesto, or the smoked salmon with cream sauce. It takes a lot of self control to save half for later! Guicho's does not have outdoor seating, but I love taking my order to go and walking to the beach! There is parking on Linden or you can park behind in a public lot. read more

A world full of pasta-bilities! Food: (first) Linguine, (second) Farfalle Price: $12.95, $10.50 Rating: 4.5/5; for the price and quantity, this is pretty good!! I really liked their Linguine, which contained scallops, tiger shrimps, white wine, mushrooms, and crushed peppers. For the amount of seafood, as well as pasta, this was a really good amount. I also tried their Farfalle. Loved the subtle amount of cheese with the chicken stock. Maybe because it has chicken stock, but I did wish they put a little less, as some pets felt watered down. I had really high hopes for Guicho's and might be willing to try it again but they missed pretty badly when we were here. I wanted a small mixed salad and ordered the mixed chop salad and ended up with a chop salad that was double the price and the size. This was way too much with my ravioli. My daughter ordered the risotto and you can see from the picture it was extremely watery and the asparagus seemed to be all stems. Not a single asparagus top in the whole dish. Trimmed off bits from another dish that used the tops perhaps? Service was decent but also everything was too salty. Oh well. Food is actually pretty good, but I remain annoyed at their meaningful contribution to the unreasonable growth in inappropriate tipping culture. I have eaten here a few times and, if paying by cash, they're likely to keep your change or ask if you want any change returned. If you're paying by credit card, they happily turn the screen to the tip page. Fast Food Casual establishments without table service does not deserve a tip. I've no aversion to tipping when appropriate, but this is veiled extortion. read more
