Chicken sandwich. I took out some meat because it was too much
    Jessica P.

I stumbled upon Carp Kitchen while I was looking for a salad of healthy option for dinner on my way to SB from LA. I'm so glad I found this place! First off, it's stunning! Beautiful back entrance from the main road with lots of parking. The store is curated masterfully with lots of pantry items, which many of them are gluten free. Food to order, food already made ready to of heat up, lots of baked good items and multiple refrigerators with drinks of all kinds! I ordered the chicken sandwich which was highly recommended by the gal working the register. VERY kind service. The sandwich & salad were really great, flavorful and filling! I did think the sandwich had a bit too much chicken so I took some out. Not a problem! I would come back here when I'm in the area

    Tri-Tri Tip Sandwich (SPECIAL)

Fresh. Local. Chill atmosphere. Friendly folks. I ordered a tri-tip sandwich with the Germanpotatoes salad! Good quality & fresh ingredients. Portion sizes are great! I got full off of one I will definitely come back again!

Summer Store hours - they also do catering!

I stopped by on Labor Day to grab some sandwiches before having a little picnic at the beach. My friend and I walked around town looking at options before deciding to come here. We initially wanted to get sandwiches/breakfast burritos at another restaurant on the Main Street but they were not accepting takeout orders on Labor Day. I'm so glad the other restaurant were not taking takeout orders at that time because I would have missed out on this deliciousness! I ordered the hot chicken club (17.50) and my friend got the godmother ($17.50). Both sandwiches comes with a side salad or potato salad and homemade dill pickles. We both opted for a side salad because we were worried the potato salad would not sit well in the hot sun. The salad was very fresh and dare I say even maybe farm fresh? The dressing was the perfect acidity and it paired so well with the sandwiches. The homemade dill pickle was also very good, not too sour and had a nice crunch to it. The hot chicken club was SOO good! Can't go wrong with chicken, bacon and avocado. The avocado was so fresh and they definitely don't skimp out on it. The homemade lemon garlic aioli was the chefs kiss! The flavors balanced so well in this sandwich and I'm still imagining the goodness I was able to try! My friend's Godmother sandwich was tasty too. It was definitely the choice for if you like Italian sandwiches. From a price standpoint, it could seem a little pricy. But you can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients and I don't think you can beat that. The service was super friendly and the owner of the shop was very welcoming especially with the yummy samples of their berry bars. The shop is adorable, a little mix of grocery store vibes but also a cafe without the indoor seating. They have wines and other grocery store items that you may need for a cute picnic or gift basket. They also have a little back patio seating area for those that want to eat there. Though only one table had a umbrella shade and the other didn't. We were told the sandwiches would take about 20 minutes and that was pretty true in timing. I would definitely come back here for a bite to eat when I'm in town. It was worth every calorie! And I would totally recommend you come check them out, you won't regret it!

Very friendly and welcoming, cute store. The back patio is a beautiful seating area with potted flowers. I enjoyed the variety of choices and the gourmet market items as well as the fresh deli choices. I had a cheese platter, the orzo salad, and bought some yummy sesame crackers and a little round of cheese for later. The reasons this isn't five stars is the sandwich and salad prices were too high (most over $15) for me to be a regular and the crackers I bought were past their expiration date (but still good). But I think it has a lot going for it and that the owner is very hands-on and really cares. It was busy at lunchtime and the soups seemed to be very popular! They even offered a free sample of the soup. I will come back to try more things and support them when I can.

Fantastic everything! Fantastic service Fantastic selection Fantastic quality Such a bounty of treats; I had a darn hard time choosing and can't wait to go back. Love their cookies. Seating outside in back. Jewish specialty dishes done really well. They have latkes! Savory and sweet, healthy and local. Life really feels is good when a place is as good as this and the service is so efficient, personable, and warm.

    Plenty to choose from...

This place offered so many options for us as we wanted to take sandwiches to be eaten the next day. One sandwich was specially made for a vegetarian. The cookies looked wonderful so we added them to our take-out. Next day, sandwiches were delicious! Great service here and will remember to stop here again when in this part of California!

Handmade deli sandwiches with a really good German potato salad or mixed green salad option

Big fan of this place!! They have the best lunch sandwiches in town and super tasty handmade desserts. The Godmother sandwich is a must try, and apparently I have to dry the Chicken Club next time. Service is warm and friendly and the interior is modern and inviting. They also have lot's of fun other cooking and picnic items. Great meats and cheeses, soups, dried pastas, and lots of wine, beer and sparkling drink options! Definitely pop in when you're in the area for lunch or to pick up stuff for a tasty picnic at the beach!!

Red velvet cake in the case
    Valerie Deanna C.

Not *really* a grocery store. It's like a deli that also sells a very limited selection of specialty items, specialty wine/spirits and a few baked goods. I haven't tried anything from the deli, but this is what I can say: - the small amount of specialty items that they do sell seem pretty unique/pretty cool. I loved the cured/aged cheese kettle chips. A nice pungent cheese flavor with a heavy crunch. A bit oily, but very good. This was a lovely find. - the freshly baked baguette was absolutely amazing. Very good. We toasted it at home and added cheese and butter. We noticed that the quality of the baguette was excellent. Soft on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. -the red velvet cake ***needs help***...It wasn't very good. I don't know if it was vegan or what, but the icing was not the rich cream cheese icing I'm used to, and although it wasn't too sweet, it tasted like a bland coconut oil based icing with the consistency of whipped Crisco...and this didn't help the flavor of the cake at all. *Speaking of the actual cake* the cake part itself was also pretty empty on flavor. A decadent red velvet cake should be a deeply /densely chocolatey cake that has been soured with the help of buttermilk and vinegar...turning it into the distinct velvety smooth sweet creation we all know and love, but something felt missing with this one. The color was there and it was moist, but y'all...it had no flavor whatsoever. It felt like an imposter. They had a limited selection of refrigerated items and cheeses along one wall which I have yet to try. A few specialty beer and wine items. I'd come back. If anything, I want to try the deli items and give an update. Welcome!!! and I hope you continue to grow and evolve. I will be back to try other things and I'll update my review then.

I was excited to try this cafe with my friends after seeing that it had many positive Yelp reviews,…read morebut I was severely disappointed in the taste of my drink and in the service throughout our visit. Though the shop was cute, clean, and had a lovely covered patio outside, I wouldn't recommend it for those stopping by for coffee on road trips. I got a seasonal spring drink called the Irish Cream Mocha and asked for it iced. Unfortunately, it just tasted like chocolate milk. Now, I like a good chocolate milk, but not when I paid for a specialty flavored mocha! I didn't detect an Irish cream flavor or even a hint of mocha. As a latte, it was way too milky and lacked the depth of an espresso drink. Contrary to its description on the menu, it wasn't balanced at all. How misleading. My friend tried one of the craft energy drinks, and it looked pretty, but she said that it was flat and tasted kinda meh. She also got a visually-appealing soda, which apparently tasted much better compared to the energy drink. Another friend ordered the seasonal Dulce de Leche Latte, and she mentioned that it was a bit too light-tasting as a latte. That checks out since my mocha also seemed like it was missing the coffee component haha. Her latte did taste like a caramelly drink made with actual dulce de leche, but she didn't appreciate that the "light" dusting of cinnamon was more like a heaping teaspoon of it thrown into the drink. We noticed that our receipts showed a higher price than what was printed on the menus. We only found out after paying and reviewing the receipts that they charge $0.75 for making drinks iced. We weren't informed of this charge by any of the ladies at the registers upon ordering, and we didn't see any signs stating that iced drinks would incur an additional charge. No explanation anywhere. Another thing that threw me off was when a certain barista handed off the completed drinks in the pickup area. She wasn't wearing gloves, and I don't think she washed her hands in-between tasks, but she was placing the drinks onto the counter while holding them by the top part, aka the lid from where people drink! I was shocked at how unbothered she was while doing that, as if that's how she was trained, or she was never corrected.
