Our home is adobe style with a flat roof, which was in need of recoating. We were referred to Gryphon by a friend and engaged them for an estimate. Brooks came out, reviewed the current state, discussed what was needed, and answered any questions we had. This type of job being as expensive as it is, we contacted another company for posterity. Their estimate was not only more, the scope wasn't up to the same level as what Gryphon prescribed. We scheduled the job to be done a couple months later when it made sense for our schedules, which Gryphon was happy to work with us on. When the day came to begin work, their staff showed up on time, was friendly, and maintained a clean work area. The initial job took about 3 days. After it was completed, I had a few concerns regarding some undercoat exposure in a few spots along an electrical conduit that spans the length of the roof. The project manager Luis came out and reviewed them with me. He set up his staff to come out and touch those spots up very soon after. All in all, Gryphon was a pleasure to work with and provided great value. If you have a flat roof, look into the EnKoat system they offer. We reached out to several companies for quotes. Some responded quickly, others didn't respond at all. Luis from Gryphon Roofing stood out--he called promptly, showed up on time, and was incredibly thorough. He asked several questions before providing a quote, which gave us confidence in his attention to detail. Once we chose Gryphon, Luis went above and beyond. He even picked up our deposit while I was on a real estate tour to accommodate my busy schedule. Their team scheduled the job right away, delivered materials on a Friday, and got started early Monday morning. They worked all day Monday and Tuesday, and finished up by midday Wednesday. On Thursday, we discovered a leak in our kitchen. I called the Daniel, the job supervisor, and he was at our home within 30 minutes. After opening up the ceiling, we found that a previous contractor had installed a water line too close to the roof plywood--right where roofing nails would naturally go. While this was clearly not Gryphon's fault, they still took full responsibility. They repaired the pipe, fixed the water damage, and within a couple of days, everything looked as good as new. We can't say enough good things about Gryphon Roofing. Their service was excellent, their employees were fantastic, and their pricing was very competitive. I had been with Gryphon for 10 years 3 jobs Last month ask for a quote for new underlayment (4600sq ft footprint) I just assumed I would be taken care since I personally did a breakdown on cost from material and labor cost so I i knew the cost of the project I added a 20% markup for profit over and above cost. Brook/Gryphon was the highest at over 100% markup above cost. So I went out and received 5 more quotes..did not go for the lowest but they but the firm I choose only added a 20% mark up on cost.. Now here is the kicker as to why not to do business with this firm. I had one part of my roof that uses urethane sealant that was covered under warranty small section backyard. Brooks came over and quickly determined some flashing around the chimney had come loose hence the "Water Leak". so guess what it was not there fault and will not honor there warranty. Ironically, I was paired with a gentlemen the next day for my tee time which would prove to be quite fortuitous. Aside from playing his music to loud in his cart, and using too many mulligans, this gentlemen happened to be the owner of Gryphon Roofing. He was extremely knowledgeable and responsive. After our 18 holes (in which I won handily), he had his team member Luis out to evaluate my home. I had a quote by the following day, and the price was reasonable. Overpriced for sure. Be careful. The quote they give you does not include any wood. $7300.00 for a 650 sqf guesthouse was 2k more than the other estimates. Also, was not impressed with Ryan R., their sales rep. When he came out to give me an estimate, he did not go inside the guesthouse to look at my ceiling. My guesthouse does not have an attic, which means you can't use the standard roofing nails. The roofers nails were going right through the ceiling and the drywall off the ceiling was crumbling down. They were lucky I was in the guesthouse at the time. It could have been much different had I not been in there. They said there was nothing they could do about the drywall that came off my ceiling. That was a fail on their part. Ryan also advised me to get my mini split installed on roof first before I get my new roof. I followed his advise and what happens......The roofers bend the coils on my brand new ac that was installed on January 12th. I got my roof done on Jan 18th Not a pleasant experience read more

Our roof was damaged in the monsoon the weekend of July 10, 2021. Our handyman wasn't able to do the repair and referred us to Gryphon Roofing. Gryphon came out on Wednesday, July 14 to give us an estimate and stated that they would be available to do the repair on Wednesday, July 28th. On July 28th, We received a call that our appointment needed to rescheduled to Thursday, August 5th because one of the employees had gotten stung by a scorpion. On August 5th, we came home from work and discovered that the roof was still damaged and no repair had been started. On Friday, August 6th, we called Gryphon to check on the status of the repair and spoke to Jon Zuniga. He assured us that he would check with his team to see if the repair could be completed the next day. He promised to call us back ASAP with the approximate time. It's now Saturday, August 7th and NO ONE has called or emailed us regarding our roof repair. We are sad, disappointed, frustrated, and upset. We decided to call the office to leave a message, however one of the employees happened to be in the office. We explained the situation and he offered to take a message. We informed the employee that would not be necessary since we would be taking our business elsewhere. If Gryphon had called us with a reasonable explanation, we would have given them one last chance to make amends. However, their actions were rude, disrespectful, and lacked common courtesy. My neighbor recently had her roof resurfaced by Gryphon. We had high hopes for this company because our neighbor had a good experience with them. We did not. The estimator (BROOKS BRYCE) was rude, inconsiderate and down right unprofessional. My husband spoke with Brooks and expressed concerns about an area of the roof where a tile had slid down. My husband asked if Gryphon would be willing to put a tarp over the exposed area until the resurfacing could be scheduled (in case of rain). Brooks told my husband that he thought that we were being "ridiculous". He proceeded to check out the rest of the roof, knocked on the door and handed my husband the quote. He was quick to leave without explanation of the paperwork. My husband and I called Brooks on speaker phone to ask him several questions before we solidified our decision. Brooks seamed VERY inconvenienced by our questions, and even sarcastically said to my husband "Wow, you're a fun one". Both my husband and I were completely taken aback! Despite this, we considered giving Gryphon another chance until I checked the yelp reviews. This is not the first complaint that has mentioned Brook's name. Yet, nothing has been done about his belligerent behavior. We ultimately decided to sign a contract with another roofing company. If Gryphon's employees do not value or respect their customers (for high price tag of $13,000) then I can not trust that they will do a good job on my roof or even willingly uphold their warranty in the future without conflict. It's a shame that one person's poor attitude has to ruin things for the entire company. read more

I used Gryphon for a tile roof on my house in Scottsdale for repairs and they were always accommodating and professional. When I needed repairs (frequent on an older roof in Tempe during monsoon season) I continued to call on them without complaint. They were prompt and professional. Unfortunately, that did not continue to be the case. Their salesperson let me know that there was hail damage to the roof that would likely be viewed as a full replacement by my insurance company. Long story short, the adjuster agreed and Gryphon replaced the roof - with cheap shingles and upcharges - which seven years later, has virtually blown off. Workmanship was just as other reviews suggest, nails everywhere - resulting in two flat tires - a fan exhaust covered, incomplete paint jobs...they had to come back three times. In the beginning it was cordial by the third time, they were frustrated with me because I continued to find things that weren't done properly or that were overlooked! They also managed to cut one of the AC lines so that the thermostat would short and run heat in the summer. No roof should blow off after seven years. The other one had been on there for almost 20. As someone who works in digital for a living, I didn't leave a negative review until it was pointed out to me that I had pretty much been taken. Or at the very least, sold a crappy roof for a premium price. read more

I hired Gryphon for a complete roof replacement. The workers showed up on time and completed the tile roofing all in one day. They forgot to replace my porch roof and delayed the process by a couple of days. The work was done very well. However, there was no communication from start to finish, including not following up for a final inspection until a week after completion. I asked for the project manager to share updates and their findings, but this never happened. I met with a gentleman for the first time yesterday to go over the work, discuss some of my findings, and I received their invoice and pictures today. I purposely waited 6 months following the work to provide an honest emotionless review. I had my red cly tile roof (Underlayment) replaced in October 2021. I will share my experiences and FACTS of Gryphon workmanship and working relationship. Positives: They did eventually show up although after three months of waiting and no contact they arrived 3 days after the scheduled date. We had three rains since although not monsoon and no leaks. Which is good. Negatives: During the estimate Brooks was quick to tell me everything they DON'T do and what is not included. The contract is very one sided. Read it first. Pre-liens are there standard operating procedure even though they have half the money well in advance. Replacement Skylights ordered were the wrong size. This was discovered after the roof was removed. They did offer to order the correct size and rip up the new roof to install. I declined as this would probably lead to future leaks which the contract says is my fault. Nails everywhere. I suffered two flat tires. After 6 months I am still picking up nails. During skylight removal and roof install they didn't cover the hole and we had broken tiles, mortar and nails falling into my living room. Apparently this is normal. Nails and broken tiles dropping on my new running A/C unit and I could hear the impact of the debris on the fan and hitting the outside coil assembly. Tile stacking was a complete joke. One tile fell off the roof. The rest were all cockeyed and my house looked like an eyesore. Photo's are available if anybody wants to see. They did send a crew back a few times to re-work what they could but its still looks like crap. Half the houses in my area have re-roof done and not one looks this bad. I checked with the ROC and BBB in addition to Google reviews. I think the owner and employees must be writing all these glowing reviews because the work I had done doesn't live up to what the reviews claim. Owner claims I am too picky. I guess for $25,000+ I expect tiles to be aligned properly and not look a clown house. read more

Gryphon roofing replaced my neighbor's roof. Their roof hangs over my side/back yard. My yard is filled with landscape rocks. They took no efforts to apply tarps or any other measure to catch debris. While they were working on my neighbor's roof, they were throwing cigarettes, soda cans, staples, nails, insulation, and various other debris from the roof, into my yard. I could hear much of the debris hitting the side of my house, as well. I called while they were on the premise, to see if they would be picking up their mess from my yard, since no one on site could speak English and unfortunately my Spanish is severely lacking. They were able to relay my message and one of the contractors came to my house and said "trash", so I let him in to my side yard, so that he could clean up some of the debris. He was in and out in minutes and a majority of the debris was still present. I inspected the side of my house and noticed that they broke one of my window screens. I called and spoke with Conner. He sent Brandon out to look at the screen. Brandon picked up some additional debris from the back yard, but there was still plenty left in the yard. Brandon was professional and admitted that it looked like they damaged the screen. He took my screen, so that he could try to get it repaired. A week later, I called for an update, as I hadn't received any updates other than he was having difficulty locating a replacement screen. He said that they were unable to repair the screen. He claimed that Conner said he could give $100 for the damaged screen. A quick google search shows, "Window screen replacement costs $136 and $479, with an average of $306. This includes $15 to $50 in labor and $20 to $100 in materials per screen.", according to HomeAdvisor. That means that $100 would likely not cover the cost to replace the screen, as it is a custom screen size, not readily available at home repair stores. Any time that I have reached out to try to get updates from Conner, it has taken several calls with false promises of him calling back, but unless I call back every hour, until he returns my call, he never does. I took another look at the side of my house and it turns out that they also damaged the frame on a 2nd window screen as well. Over the course of two weeks, I have picked up bags of various debris, over a dozen screws, and just as many roofing staples. I have come to the conclusion that the rocks need to be completely removed from my back yard, since I have dogs and they are not safe with the roofing debris mixed in with the rocks. To do so, would cost over $1000, though. Conner would not even begin to listen to my concern about all the debris that cannot be removed from the rocks. DO NOT use Gryphon roofing if you have rocks in your yard or you live in close proximity to neighbors that have rocks in their yard. They have caused hundreds to thousands of dollars of damage to my residence and are only offering $100 in compensation with no resolution of the issues that they have caused. This is utterly ridiculous. Conner is very confrontational and a very poor manager. If you have any issues with their services, do not anticipate any resolution. I will be pursuing further options to try to restore my yard to one that is safe for my animals, as they have completely failed to rectify the issues that they caused. read more

I am an insurance adjuster, and let me just start off by saying that there are very few roofing companies I would ever refer to anyone, of all of the roofing companies I have personally run into in the valley over 13 years. That being said, there will always be good and bad reviews from everyone but I cannot stress enough how impressed I was with this company, specifically Brooks. I am always ready to hear of repairs needed that are not actually needed, and expertise used against or lost on homeowners. He could not beyond ALL doubt locate the source of the leak, and he was 100% honest about it. He advised me that he could easily make the same repair the last roofer had made but that he did not honestly believe that would fix the problem. He gave me his best suggestion on a potential self repair to see if the leak stops and offered services in the future. I wish I could report but I saw that kind of honesty over the last 13 to 14 years, but I cannot. I've seen positive and negative reviews in here, but unless you were in the industry I couldn't care less what your opinion is of this excellent and above board roofing contractor. And as a sidenote if you hired them or you were part of hiring them with an HOA, you couldn't be further from or more disconnected from solving your own problems. Don't blame a roofer for your community leader ship and it's incompetence. read more

Super disappointed in this company. We set up an appointment to get a quote. The appointment was set for 12-1. Brook showed up before our appointment time and the guard called me to give access. I asked the guard to tell him to call me when he got through the gate because he was early and was suppose to call me when en route. I could hear her telling him as we were hanging up. The guard called back to tell me that he turned around and left and that two guard witnessed that she gave him my message. The next call was from Brooke telling me that the gate turned him away and would not allow him in. I explained that the gate had just called for a second time to inform me of the situation and that he was not turned away and was not being honest. He then proceeded to get nasty and asked me how he can help me. I explained that he was early, rude and dishonest so I do not want to work with him. If a supervisor can't be honest from the get-go, what do you expect from a roofing job. I let the office know and they asked if I wanted to reschedule with another supervisor. I let them know I would if the owner cared enough to call me regarding the situation. The owner never called. I have never worked with a company quite like this. They send out non English speaking laborers who don't know what the project is they are coming to do. Communication is then "arranged" with a supervisor over their phone to translate. After they mess up your roof, can't tell you what they have completed and leave with out ever informing you, you find you have leaks you never had before and worse damage than you started with. They return after a fight to do "patch work to fix it" and then refuse to complete the project. I hope you never find yourself in my position. read more

I had my roof repaired by Gryphon in 2012 and it started to leak in the last rainstorm 3 weeks ago. Call them out to look at the damage and the estimator John Hammond says it would cost around $1800 to fix. I had 2 other roofing contractors come out as a roof should not leak after only 6 years. They both said that the roof leaked due to poor workmanship on the part of Gryphon Roofing. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Registrar of Contractors. The thing is very upsetting as the Gryphon estimator could see the poor job they did and should have owned up to it. I would not recommend a company that doesn't honor their work. read more

We have used Gryphon Roofing twice and have recommended Gryphon to a number of people. After the experience I had with a Gryphon representative a few days ago I will NEVER use nor recommend this company again. I had made an appointment with them, after waiting for 2 weeks for someone to come out Gryphon called within the hour they were suppose to arrive (after I waited all day) to change the date until the next day. Now I was told that they would call 30 minutes before arriving. The next day I received a call from BROOKS BRYCE (the rep for Gryphon) he said , "I've been waiting for 45 minutes." I said, "you were suppose to call." He said, "I Don't CALL AND I TOOK A NAP WAITING FOR YOU." He was very rude and unprofessional. We contracted with Gryphon to replace our roof and complete inside repairs after our house was damaged in a storm in August of 2018. Our contract stated that all work was to have been completed between September and October. After several delays due to poor scheduling, the roof was finished just before the end of October. The inside work took forever because they came to "measure" about 5 times, but did not actually start work until mid-November. The job was finally finished in March. At the time of the damage, I was entering my 3rd trimester in my pregnancy. This meant that all of the work was done while I had a newborn at home which was not a good situation at all. We ended up driving up to North Phoenix to my in-laws every day of construction so that my son was not exposed to all of the dust and debris. I am extremely disappointed in not only how long it took Gryphon to complete the repairs to my property, but also the lack of communication and reliable scheduling during the whole process. read more

I used them to put a foam roof on my townhouse. The install went well. They were polite and, from what I can tell, did a good job. I contacted them to come back and install bird spikes so I wouldn't keep having the issues we've been having. It has been about 3 weeks of trying to just get an estimate and still nothing. They've already been out and we've spoken about this. I've been patient and polite. They have been non-responsive. If you have a big job, I'm sure they will be happy to do it. I didn't have a big roof job to do but was selling my home and the buyers asked for a small amount of work done. Gryphon was recommended by my realtor and came out and gave me a bid to get the work done while explaining in detail all the work that needed to be done. It sounded considerable and worthy of the $725 they quoted me. I got another bid but it was much higher and they wanted to remove more of the roof, so I went with Gryphon. On the day of the job, two guys in a pickup truck showed up to do the work. It didn't seem like they had a lot of stuff with them but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. 40 minutes after they started, they rang the doorbell to say they were finished. I was shocked that a job costing that much could be done in that time. Of course, I had signed the bid in advance, so it was on me. My advice is to avoid Gryphon and shop around. I don't believe the amount of work done was in line with the cost quoted and clearly all I did was line the owners pockets. Don't make the same mistake I did. [update - adding detail 05/2013] The reason the other guy was more expensive was because he felt that the job required ripping out more of the roof to properly ensure no future leakage. Because of that, he was much higher. Not sure if that really needed to be done or not, but my sense is that the price quoted (relative to the amount of time it took to get the work done) was not reasonable. Basically, they never told me how long it would take (nor did I ask) and thus they were able to charge a high price for what turned out to be a very minor repair. Think of it this way - how many vendors would you pay over $700 to have two people spend 45 minutes on your property with very few supplies to remedy an issue? If you have a roof issue, I suggest you look elsewhere. If in doubt, just check out the other Yelp reviews on this vendor. read more

I live in a condo complex where Gryphon was hired to do some roofing work. On my building, they were supposed to repair the roof where a leak was causing interior damage to the unit above mine. The day after they completed that work, my heat was not working, so I contacted my home warranty company and paid $100 to lean that there was nothing wrong with my heat pump....it was simply unplugged. My repair guy said it looked as though someone had kicked the plug loose and not re-attached it. My property manager asked Gryphon to compensate my $100 expense in having to fix what their workers had caused, but they did not. Apparently the word "restoration" doesn't include fixing, in any way, any issues their workers cause. read more

Terrible customer service. I would never recommend this company to anyone. 3 weeks ago I had called because we had experienced some hard rainfall and there was a leak coming from the roof. Some back story, I bought this house in September 2021 and the previous owner replaced the whole roof back in 2019 and paid for a 10 year warranty and that the warranty was transferred to me. When I called I was told the transfer warranty was never paid and it would have to be approved by a supervisor if it could still be valid. 2 weeks go by and I don't hear anything, now keep in mind, I'm willing to pay the $100 transfer fee for the warranty. When I called this week for a follow up I was told that the warranty cannot be transferred to me because it was already transferred once and they don't do multiple transfers. I find this hard to believe because the name on the paperwork is the previous owner, there has not been more than one owner except me. I'm extremely disappointed in the customer service I received, it was like an inconvenience to help and the multiple excuses as to why the warranty cannot be honored is truly disappointing. On top of that Conner the "supervisor" did not even want to get on the phone and speak with me. I have the signed warranty paperwork from Gryphon so I have already contacted the better business bureau, and the attorney general in this matter because how can a company not honor a warranty that they signed and provide? read more

It was very easy to schedule an appointment for an estimate on the roof repair. The estimator was prompt and the estimate itself was half of the previous one that I had gotten from another company. I thought it was very fair and proceeded to hire them. The roofer was prompt and quietly and efficiently went about his repair. The supervisor came out to double check the work and was also prompt and knowledgeable. The office customer service is top notch. I didn't even use them because of the lack of communication. From the get go they are unprofessional. I made the appointment and then I was called about 4 hours after he was supposed to show up to reschedule. Then when he was going to come the next day between 9-10 am he shows up at 230 in the afternoon with no phone call. So, I let him look at the roof "reluctantly". I have to email them three or four days later just to get my quote. I tell them yes lets do the cheaper of the options. Josh Lanam tells me he needs to review the schedule and will get back to me.
